It Ends With Us might be one of the most controversial recent films, with the ongoing legal battle and a series of allegations on several sides. However, it was also a huge hit and Colleen Hoover is focused on moving on.
Hoover is arguably one of the most famous romance authors in recent years. The bestselling author has a dedicated fanbase who have been devouring her novels for over a decade, and, following the success of It Ends With Us, her first feature adaptation, she has several other films in the works. Per Deadline,Regretting You has now rounded up its cast and set a release date.

While the film industry is known for its widely diverse genres, the horror genre enjoys a unique edge with its ability to keep the audience at the edge of their seats at all times. Even though there is no shortage of projects within the domain, not all end up delighting and frightening viewers. In recent years, not many movies have made an impact or an impression as strong as The Black Phone.

Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge is a film that proudly revels in its absurdity, a hybrid of genres stitched together with the confidence of a director unafraid to push the limits of plausibility. Equal parts military thriller, sci-fi horror, and starry-eyed romance, it’s the kind of film that begs you to leave logic at the door and simply enjoy the ride. And for a while, it works. With Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy delivering charismatic performances, and some impressively weird creature design lurking in the depths, The Gorge almost succeeds in being the gloriously over-the-top spectacle it aspires to be. Almost.
The premise is delightfully ridiculous. Levi (Teller) and Drasa (Taylor-Joy) are elite snipers stationed on opposite sides of a vast, mist-filled gorge, tasked with preventing whatever lurks below from escaping. Their only human contact is each other – though their respective military handlers forbid communication. Naturally, this rule is ignored almost immediately.

Blumhouse horror movies tend to be somewhat polarizing. The company has produced plenty of hits, like The Black Phone, M3GAN, Get Out, and Happy Death Day, but it has also distributed its fair share of duds (last year was rough between Night Swim and Imaginary), making it hard to suss out whether or not upcoming films will be good.
But I have to say, the latest trailer for The Woman in the Yard has me excited, especially since it looks like this isolated rural horror film will lean heavily into some Flannery O'Connor/folk horror vibes. Universal Pictures has revealed the new trailer for the horror thriller The Woman in the Yard, opening in theaters on March 28. The film has been rated PG-13 for terror, some violent content/bloody images, suicide-related content, and brief strong language.
In the movie, a lone, spectral woman shrouded entirely in black appears on a family’s front lawn without explanation and warns them “Today’s the day.” Where did she come from? What does she want? When will she leave? Only The Woman in the Yard knows.
From Blumhouse, the most successful global brand in horror, comes a new original chiller starring BAFTA and SAG nominee Danielle Deadwyler as Ramona, a woman crippled by grief after she survives a car accident that takes her husband.
Seriously injured, Ramona now must care for their 14-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, alone in her rural farmhouse. Then one day the woman takes form in their yard.

No genre stretches the imagination to the farthest reaches of possibility more than sci-fi, where the only limit is creativity. It’s a genre built on wonder, exploration and the thrill of discovery. Whether it’s a spacecraft journeying through space or aliens beyond understanding, the allure of sci-fi is universal. Yet, few films manifest youthful curiosity quite like Joe Dante’s Explorers.
Released in 1985, this under-the-radar gem managed to sidestep the blockbuster frenzy of its time to become a cult classic, one that still resonates with anyone – young or old – who has ever dreamed of building a spaceship in their backyard and flying off into the stars. Explorers captures the kind of wonder that only childhood can bring, where the impossible feels within reach. While the film may not have been a huge box-office success, it’s one that stands the test of time as a tribute to the...

Scott Derrickson’s The Gorge didn’t get much fanfare in the UK at least – but it’s proven a sizeable hit for Apple TV+.

Apple TV+ has a huge hit on its hands as The Gorge has become its biggest movie yet. The film, which stars Miles Teller (Whiplash) and Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen's Gambit), was directed by Scott Derrickson and has beaten the premiere of Apple's hit movie, Wolfs, which starred George Clooney and Brad Pitt.
The Gorge follows two snipers from different nations, Levi (Teller) and Drasa (Taylor-Joy), as they stand guard over a gorge that holds many mysteries. Despite being on either side of the gorge in two separate watch towers, the two become close. But when the pair learn what the evil is that lurks at the bottom of the gorge, they have to fight to stop it from leaving. Sigourney Weaver also stars, and the script was written by Zach Dean.
When the movie premiered on Apple TV+ on Feb. 14, it quickly shot up to number one on the streamer's chart.

It stands to reason that genre film lovers would make some of the best genre films. Of course, that's not a hard and fast rule — some fans-turned-filmmakers can become so blinded by their love of the movies that inspire them that they end up making a thinly veiled, watered-down version of what's come before. Yet when you're dealing with a filmmaker who has a keen creative sensibility and knows how to throw all their influences into a blender in order to come out with something that feels fresh yet familiar, then you're hitting that special sweet spot of genre cinema bliss.
Hitting that sweet spot is exactly what director Scott Derrickson has done with "The Gorge," a movie which is a veritable potpourri of genres, tones, and influences, all coming together in a way that's immensely satisfying. Derrickson has made a career out of proving his genre bonafides several times over,...

Scott Derrickson's newest film, The Gorge, has climbed to the top of the streaming charts on Apple TV+ just a day after it was released on the service. The Apple original film, which stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, had an impressive debut and is a prime example of how Apple's original programming manages to stay relevant and stand out in a crowded library on streaming services and countless original films and series. Released on February 15, The Gorge attracted attention thanks to its two leads, well-known director, interesting premise, and blend of genres.
Set in a dystopian world, The Gorge follows Levi (Teller) and Drasa (Taylor-Joy), two snipers who keep watch over a gorge separating their two watchtowers. 2024 was a massively successful year for horror movies, especially those from independent studios. With notable titles like A24's Heretic and a wide selection from Neon, including Longlegs, Cuckoo and Immaculate, the horror field saw an increase in audience reception. Looking toward the cinematic lineup in 2025, it's clear that the refreshing wave of new horror films is only growing.
Whether it's expanding franchises with anticipated, blood-curdling sequels or fresh takes on pre-established horror stories, 2025 contains a diversity of works that will have audiences squealing with joy and fear. If this year's releases are anywhere near replicative of last year's, long-time horror fans and apprehensive newcomers are in for a truly terrifying year.

Natasha Lyonne has been tapped to star in and produce Basketful of Heads, an adaptation of the Joe Hill graphic novel series of the same name, Deadline reports. The film will be written and directed by Ana Lily Amirpour, the filmmaker behind the 2014 indie neo-vampire film A Girl Walks Home Alone at Night.
Basketful of Heads is a darkly comedic horror tale centering on June Branch, who must save her boyfriend from kidnappers with a magic axe that gives human heads the power to continue living after decapitation. It was written by Hill with art by Leomacs and Reiko Murakami and first published by the DC Comics imprint Hill House Comics in 2019.
Bluestone Entertainment will produce the film alongside Lyonne's Animal Pictures and Akiva Goldsman and Greg Lessans's Weed Road. In a statement, Lyonne said she is "thrilled to work with the ingenious auteur Ana Lily Amirpour on such...

Editor's note: The following contains spoilers for 'The Gorge'Directed by Scott Derrickson, known for Doctor Strange and The Black Phone, The Gorge blends action, romance, and horror to create an ominous slow-burn that shifts into a battle for survival. Relying on its two protagonists, Levi (Miles Teller) and Drasa (Anya Taylor-Joy), to carry the narrative, the movie is claustrophobic and features minimal dialogue. Both are recruited as they are elite snipers, and know very little about the operation they are undertaking. They just know they will be positioned in a lookout tower on either side of a gorge, with strict instructions not to communicate with the other side. Of course, they break that rule, bond over their similarities and things go south very quickly, in more ways than one.

Valentine's Day is a great holiday for the movies. Whether you're spending it alone or curling up under a blanket with a loved one, there's just something fun about getting cozy and watching a film that suits this holiday perfectly. And if you are going to watch a movie, of course it needs to have some kind of romance in it to suit the day.
But what if you're a sci-fi horror nerd? What if the mere thought of a romance movie makes you cringe and dream of xenomorphs, or long for the latest slasher flick?
Apple TV+ may have the answer. Today, the streamer is releasing The Gorge, the latest film from director Scott Derrickson. Derrickson is a seasoned veteran of the genre movie space, especially when he's working with his longtime producing partner C. Robert Cargill (who serves as a producer on The Gorge); they worked together on The Black Phone,...

Back in 2021, Universal Pictures, Blumhouse Productions, and director Scott Derrickson brought us an adaptation of the Joe Hill short story The Black Phone (check out our review Here) that appeared to tell a complete story that would stand on its own… but the film was made on a budget of around $16 million and earned over $160 million at the global box office. So, on October 17, 2025, we’ll be getting The Black Phone 2. Filming wrapped in January, and during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Derrickson (whose new film The Gorge was released through Apple TV+ today) said that he’s aiming to surprise viewers with the Black Phone sequel, which is “more complicated” than its predecessor.
Derrickson wrote the screenplay for the first film with C. Robert Cargill, and Derrickson and Cargill have written the screenplay for The Black Phone 2 as well, with Derrickson returning to the helm. He...

Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy in ‘The Gorge’ (Photo Credit: Apple TV+)
Apple TV+’s The Gorge is a wildly entertaining mash-up of genres that somehow works beautifully … for the most part. (More on that later.) At its heart, it’s a love story that’s driven by action, with splashes of sci-fi, sharp comedy, and even a touch of political drama stirred in for good measure. What truly makes it shine, though, are the engaging performances from Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga) and Miles Teller (The Offer), who add personality and depth to every scene.
The setup is fairly simple. Two snipers man towers on opposite sides of a deep gorge. One’s an ex-Marine who writes poetry and has 113 confirmed sniper kills. The other is a Lithuanian sniper with incredible patience and a record that rivals her counterpart. Both are single, share remarkable accuracy with their weapons,...

Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy flirt over an abyss full of creatures in a slickly made but increasingly dumb Apple mockbuster
On a Valentine’s Day when studios and streamers are steering clear of traditional romance, Apple TV’s The Gorge feels weirdly traditional in comparison. In any other year a film about two snipers holding guard over an abyss filled with monsters wouldn’t feel like standard date night fare but there are more traditional romcom beats here than one would expect and ultimately want.
When the film, from The Black Phone and Doctor Strange director Scott Derrickson, starts off in genre territory, there’s some low-level fun to be had. The setup has a non-triggering Covid-era feel to it, as Miles Teller’s soldier-for-hire Levi finds himself an unlikely new gig, spending the next year alone in a watchtower. In a brief handover from an underused Sope Dirisu,...

Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy team up with Scott Derrickson for an ambitious, enjoyable thriller. So why isn’t The Gorge being advertised anywhere?
The trailer for The Gorge, Scott Derrickson’s latest genre-bending film, doesn’t really tell the whole story. It shows Miles Teller and Anya Taylor-Joy’s characters, highly skilled mercenaries, assigned to watch over the titular gorge, where something spooky lurks. Naturally, the two fall in love and the trailer sells The Gorge as a strange action-romance hybrid, but the reality is much more complex.
Derrickson is best known for his work in the horror genre with films like The Exorcism Of Emily Rose, Sinister and The Black Phone, the latter receiving a sequel later this year. While the aforementioned promo for The Gorge doesn’t exactly market the film as a horror, it quickly becomes one, and a good one, too.

When first announced, “The Gorge” from director Scott Derrickson (“The Black Phone”) was mysteriously touted, without any other details, as a “high-action, genre-bending love story. And the good news is, the movie, spanning several genres—including horror, thriller, action, romance, sci-fi-ish elements, etc.— lives up to that promise. The bad news, however, is the movie lives up to that promise.

Filmmaker Scott Derrickson is best known for his work in the horror genre – The Exorcism of Emily Rose, Sinister, The Black Phone – but the director has also ventured into other worlds, such as the superhero realm with Doctor Strange. Personally, I greatly appreciate his style and this time, Derrickson tries to make the most of Zach Dean’s (The Tomorrow War) screenplay and the two Hollywood stars at his disposal, Miles Teller (Whiplash) and Anya Taylor-Joy (Furiosa), to achieve another critical and commercial success with The Gorge.
The premise is simple: Levi (Teller) and Drasa (Taylor-Joy) are two highly trained agents who are given the exact same mission. Separated by a vast and highly classified gorge, they’re stationed at opposite surveillance posts to protect the world from a mysterious evil that resides in the depths of the great chasm. If you live long enough you start asking yourself big, big questions, like… what is the meaning of life? Are we alone in the universe? And what would you do if you were a sniper guarding the gateway to Hell and you fell in love with another sniper who was really, super hot?
Scott Derrickson’s new Apple Original movie “The Gorge” answers only one of these questions, and unfortunately for philosophers everywhere, it’s the hot sniper question. But the rest of us will cheerfully make do. “The Gorge” is an unexpectedly romantic movie coming from the “Sinister” and “The Black Phone” director, but it’s also a gnarly monster flick with memorable beasties galore.
Miles Teller stars as Levi, a former Marine sniper who works freelance, and he’s super lonely. When a powerful figure played by Sigourney Weaver enlists Levi for a mysterious, year-long mission, he’s got nothing tying him down.

The title of this movie is the two-word answer to a most unexpected question. Namely: “What do you get if you cross American Sniper, The Last Of Us, Stranger Things, Aliens and Love Actually?” Writer Zach Dean appears unashamed of his influences on this former Black List spec script, and director Scott Derrickson has much fun with them, serving up a frothy B-pic stew. By the time we reach the wink-at-the-audience montage that depicts Miles ‘Whiplash’ Teller and The Queen’s Gambit’s Anya Taylor-Joy bonding over drumming and chess, there is no doubt left that The Gorge can’t, and shouldn’t, be taken too seriously.
The set-up is a doozy. Teller and Taylor-Joy are sexy-but-damaged elite operatives whisked to a super-remote top-secret location by Sigourney Weaver, guest-starring as the token untrustworthy boss-person. Their year-long mission? To stand sentinel over an eerie chasm which may or may not be “the door to Hell”. Only,...

How far would you go for a worthy love story? It's the most pressing question at the forefront of "The Gorge" for its two main leads, rival snipers played with effortless chemistry by Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller. Separated by thousands of meters of canyon depths, the vast gulf between them only exacerbates their need for connection. Yet, intentional or not, this also doubles as an inadvertent commentary on the state of the genre these days. It's no secret that 2024 was a fairly dire year when it comes to rom-coms. But no matter how many decisionmakers in charge want to pretend otherwise, audiences clearly remain starved for something that delivers romance.
As much as filmmakers might want to make straightforward romances, however, they've had far better luck sneaking them into larger genre plays. Think of "Twisters" using the backdrop of CGI tornadoes to do an enemies-to-lovers ship (even if it...

Miles Teller certainly scored points in Top Gun: Maverick, but now with The Gorge he has really flown into the danger zone.
Valentine’s Day is certainly appropriate to release this hybrid of several genres including horror, sci-fi, action and romance, the latter due to a clever “meet cute” angle between two sharp-shooting assassins hired to guard East and West towers separated by 600 meters, below them an imposing, dense, foggy forest that holds a dark secret.
No doubt it is a lonely job when Bartholomew (Sigourney Weaver), the shady corporate operative who is one of the few who knows of the top kept secret of what the Gorge holds, recruits Levi (Teller), an ex-Marine and private contractor, a hit man talented with guns and weapons who Bartholomew decides is perfect for the yearlong assignment of making sure there is no escape from the mysterious gorge, a place of which even nine Russian heads and 13 U.

Nothing says Valentine’s Day like snipers killing giant monsters and falling in love. If that sounds like the perfect date night to you, Apple TV+ has you covered with The Gorge, the latest film by Doctor Strange and The Black Phone director Scott Derrickson. That being said, date nights are usually better with good movies, so it’s probably best to stay away from this one.

Dean DeBlois knows a thing or two about dragons. And, yes, how to train them. Back in 2015, he directed DreamWorks’ beloved coming-of-age fantasy How To Train Your Dragon alongside Chris Sanders, beginning the tale of friendship between Viking boy Hiccup and his Night Fury dragon pal Toothless – one that DeBlois continued into 2014’s How To Train Your Dragon 2, before concluding in 2018’s How To Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World. So, when Universal mooted a live-action remake of the first film in the saga, they went to the man who knew the story best – and rather than pass it on to another filmmaker, he felt there was more to explore.
“Chris Sanders and I were brought in as a replacement writer and director team on that first film,” DeBlois tells Empire at the release of the How To Train Your Dragon trailer. “We had 15 months to rewrite and push the movie through production.

To say director Scott Derrickson likes to take his time between movies would be an understatement. His 2016 MCU hit Doctor Strange wasn't followed up until five years later by the 2021 horror smash The Black Phone. Now, four years after that, his latest thriller The Gorge is set to debut on Apple TV+ on Feb. 14, and first reactions to the film have revealed if it's worth the wait.

Thus far, reactions have been overwhelmingly positive, which comes as no surprise, as Derrickson is the same person behind other hits like Sinister, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose; two movies that clearly prove the...

The new trailer and poster for the live-action How to Train Your Dragon have finally been unleashed (via SFFGazette.com), and all signs point to the movie doing right by the beloved DreamWorks Animation classic...by not being all that different from it.

All signs point to this being an epic fantasy movie in its own right, and regardless of how much the original How to Train Your Dragon achieved on screen in 2010, the visuals showcased in this sneak peek are on a completely different level.

The Gorge director Scott Derrickson opened up about his newest sci-fi action horror movie, which will feature Golden Globe winner Anya Taylor-Joy as an elite sniper tasked with guarding the gateway to hell. This marks Derrickson’s first high-profile action movie in a while, after directing Doctor Strange in 2016.
In an interview with GamesRadar+, Derrickson confirmed that he was inspired by several popular horror video games like Silent Hill and Until Dawn, during the development and production of The Gorge. "I love those games, and I do think that gaming has sort of set the bar for gun-play action, especially if you're really with a single character or two characters, you kind of can't beat it," he shared. "I think that the challenge of the movie was not letting it fall into just the straight, chaotic stimulus of gaming-type action. The challenge was to have that kind of stimulus and power and really utilize that.

There are plenty of reasons why How To Train Your Dragon has endured as a generation’s animated coming-of-age saga – beyond the gorgeous music, those colourful dragons, and all that enticing lore, the bond between human kid Hiccup and deeply adorable ‘Night Fury’ dragon Toothless is – and always has been – pure magic. Now, that relationship is being explored again in live-action, 15 years after the arrival of the original film, with The Black Phone’s Mason Thames in the Hiccup role, and Toothless being played by… well, Toothless. Could you really have cast anyone else? Watch the trailer here:
While those protective of the original might be worried about this sacred text falling into the wrong hands, director Dean DeBlois (who oversaw the entire animated trilogy) is helming here. And it looks like many of the story’s most pivotal moments are being presented faithfully – though with the added fidelity of photorealistic textures,...
