It's always nice, when dramas don't get too cheesy. This is about two brothers of different attitudes colliding 30 years after they spiltted up. They re-united at their father's funeral. One is an international manager, tied to a tied scedule with many communication over smartphone. He left home early because of the home situation. The other is a craftsman, leading a carpenter's workshop. After taking several drinks and some psychological obstacles, the two brothers start a journey on their lower motorbikes they had when they were fifteen and experience each other new. The best on this movie is, that it doesn't become too cheesy and had some fine moments, but also some comedic. This is no movie with big secial effects, but it takes some heart to watch it. No stuff for people searching for action, scifi, pure comedy, crime, thrillers, and many other genres. I voted it 7/10, because it's sure not the peak of filmhistory, but it's a solid drama with heart and it's sometimes a little bit silly, but close enough to reality to be enlighted with that brother's story. It's one of the better German movies.

A warmly beautiful film, but two dissimilar brothers and the journey of a lifetime. You could say a typically German film. Sometimes a bit posed, sometimes a little too serious, but always entertaining and in the middle of life. Good music is included. A feel-good road movie.
This movie made me regret that I never had a brother that left me alone with our terminally ill father, so I can reconnect with said brother.
Great acting by the main protagonists. While the movie is a light road movie-comedy, the connection or should I say disconnection between the brothers feels real. So does the reconnection of the two, which doesn't come as a surprise. There are no plot twists, or big surprises, but that doesn't matter: The journey through Germany and the Brother's past is the goal. The movie is beautifully shot at times and the soundtrack is great too. Enjoy the ride!

While I generally liked the movie, I am a bit split what is the more ridiculous idea:
- that Lars Eidinger and Bjarne Mädel were raised in the rural Black Forest (unless their father was not a local farmer as in the story, but rather an immigrant from Hamburg), or
- that 2 50-cc 2-stroke mopeds that have been in a garage for 30 years would easily start again.

Georg and Christian are brothers who grew up together in a small provincial town. Christian left many decades ago to make a success of himself and Georg remained where they grew up to look after their ailing father. When the brothers are reunited during their father's funeral they decide to put their differences aside in order to fullfil their childhood dream - to travel across country to the Baltic Sea. Riding their old motorbikes no faster than 25 kilometres per hour they have many adventures, while rediscovering life and each other, on the road that leads them to some unexpected places.
It is not the first time the director Markus Koller tells the story of two very different brothers, but this time it's a lighthearted comedy as breezy and light as a motorbike ride. Looking ridiculous, but also kind of cool, in their funeral suits Georg (Bjarne Madel) and Christian (Lars Edinger) have a real onscreen chemistry. Their awkward love/hate relationship will remind you of people you know. Add some picturesque landscapes, a dreamy soundtrack and real life comic situations and you get an inspired film with a real heart.
The patchwork of quirky characters never lets the story get boring and seeing Franka Potente in a small role was a true delight.
There's nothing particularly original about 25 km/h but it is a real gem of a road movie that will put a smile on your face.

I had great expectation watching this movie since Bjarne Mädel and Lars Eidinger are two of my favorite actors.
And yes, it was nice and quite entertaining to watch.
But somehow also a little flat and incoherent.
Also the two main actors played nice, I somehow did not believe they were two brothers from the 'Schwarzwald'.

I loved this movie. Seeing love between brothers, with the ugly side of a rivalry. Two brothers that could not be more different but still bound by their family. Many people will relate! It is pure joy to see these two men showing a great span of emotions. Taking a trip through Germany. Seeing many beautiful places. Developing the characters throughout the whole movie. No cliche. No cringe. A daring story of love between men without becoming gay. The world needs more of those movies. Inspirational, important and totally enjoyable. Takes this ride which starts dark but ends with beautiful lesson.
I love the cinematography! The touch of comedy is nice, here and there. I think it's a great movie to watch when you want to relax.
We watched the movie at a public viewing. The audience liked it. It is an entertaining story of two brothers making a road trip with a lot of jokes and fun, but also feelings. There were some refreshing unexpected events, but not too surpring. There isn't much action, but it is alright that way. RIght after the movie ended some of us including me said that we might rewatch the movie soon, just because it was so nice.
Schmaltzy, stupid, asinine plot, shamelessy plundering Germany's film advancement funds for different regions by traveling through said region. They were simply too lazy to adapt the plot to the detours they took into those regions. And again, reaching the sea. I don't know why this is such a trope for German comedies (my heart aches at calling these asinine pieces an actually comedy), but it seems to be. What used to be the forest as the destination of dreams and mystery in German romanticism, has now become the beach, usually the North Sea because that's all we have and that is all the viewers get. Sure, one could move on to Kattegat at least, to Skagen, it isn't such a great distance and putting this road trip over the Danish border might give the viewers reason to laugh - the Danes are quite good at comedy - but no. German North Sea it is and it has to be reached. Because. It is hard to remember why, and who cares. I guess the Dutch and Danes were not willing to open up their film advancement coffers, and why should they. Thank god they advance films and series that are actually good.
I watched this film because Bjarne Mädel is such a great actor - but nobody could have saved that d-fest. Makes me wonder why he went for it, and also why the film has such a high rating on IMDB... go figure.
I will do my part though to warn people off wasting their precious life time and energy on this. Please, please watch something else. There are good German films (Toni Erdmann is just one of them, or The Deadly Maria), and even series have greatly improved (Dark, Babylon Berlin). Stay away from this nonsensical, new "Heimat"film genre and go for a walk in the forest, or take a trip to the sea yourselves.

I've seen a lot of road trip movies. Some are ok, some good, some excellent.
This very well paced film seemed unassuming enough in the write up and you feel it may be a little like so many other road trip films, where you enjoy them but forget them.
Wonderful actors, humour, talent, the totally unexpected and just the silliness of the premise are enchanting and wonderful.
Beautiful cinematography, realistic script and charming, intelligent scenes that showcase all the mixed emotions, highs and lows of the mix that makes us human and vulnerable.
The adventure is original. Two brothers and a whole lot of easy fun.

This is one of my favorite films ever.
Two brothers in the middle of their middle-age crisis decide to be "spontaneous" and, in a spur of a moment, right after their father's funeral, decide to fulfill their boyish dream, and set on a silly journey on their old teenage motorbikes from their hometown in the south of Germany towards Baltic Sea on the north. On their road there, they have to fulfill also several silly challenges. This is moving, entertaining, funny, and everybody can identify with their problems and adventures. For those who know German lifestyle a bit more, it is clear how "scandalous" it must be for Germans to undertake anything "spontaneous", since Germans normally have everything pre-planned. But, sometimes, as it will be seen, they are actually craving for new adventures, and this is exactly what they need in life. I think everybody should see this film.
