Few films are held to higher levels of box office scrutiny than comic book movies. That was doubly true for the R-rated Birds of Prey, which stars Margot Robbie as Harley Quinn, the breakout antihero from 2016's Suicide Squad, which helped propel the character to new heights of popularity. When Birds of Prey opened behind expectations to $33.3 million in early February, it was largely seen as a disappointment, despite earning strong reviews and having a budget of $82 million, a relatively modest figure for a comic book adaptation.

(This article contains a very small spoiler for “Birds of Prey”)
Perhaps the best way to describe “Birds of Prey” — just in terms of what kind of movie it is, not whether it’s good or bad — is “sensory overload.” It’s like if “Deadpool” wasn’t just goofy and self-referential, but also was covered with crazy and disorienting visuals. It’s just a lot to take in.
So it can be easy, when leaving the theater, to forget one of the most fascinating bits in the whole film: that “Bird of Prey” established that Bernie Sanders exists in this shared universe of movies based on DC Comics, aka the DC Extended Universe.
This reveal comes midway through the film, when when lots of random folks who Harley Quinn (Margot Robbie) has wronged in various ways try to kill her. Each time we meet a new one of these folks,...

What happened to “Birds of Prey”? That’s the question on the minds of box office prognosticators and most likely Warner Bros. executives after the Margot Robbie-starring comic book tentpole became a box office dud in its opening weekend. “Birds of Prey” debuted to $33 million, well below the $45 million the studio was projecting. The film’s international gross wasn’t much better at $48 million. “Birds of Prey” cost $80 million to produce, so it’s possible the film can break even, but these low box office numbers are disappointing for a comic book film with good reviews and a beloved character at its center. And yet, you wouldn’t know the latter from the title alone.
“Birds of Prey” makes no mention in its title of Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn, the breakout supporting character from “Suicide Squad” (poorly reviewed but a massive $746 million worldwide), and that appears to have...

Margot Robbie had a pretty big attitude shift when Michael Strahan called Birds of Prey a Marvel movie. Robbie and the rest of the cast are currently out promoting the latest DC Comics superhero adventure, which hits theaters tonight for Thursdaypreview screenings. While Robbie portrays Harley Quinn on screen, this project is also her baby. She is a producer on the DC film and she had a big hand in everything behind-the-scenes, so it makes sense why she might be more than a little peeved at the Marvel mistake.
Michael Strahan was interviewing Bird of Prey cast members Margot Robbie, Rosie Perez, Ella Jay Basco, and Jurnee Smollett-Bell when he started talking about all of the characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The camera pans to the cast and one can easily see Robbie's face make a small and subtle change, almost like she's muttering under her breath. The mistake...

Discontinued Oscar categories, Bird of Prey soundtrack, the chance of Joker winning its nominations, and more in Link Tank!
Multiple Oscar categories were discontinued over the years. Check out these seven.
"The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the professional organizing body of the ceremony intended to honor the highest achievers in the field of filmmaking, recognizes that standards of achievement in the film industry evolve over time. The awards issued each year have reflected the ever-changing nature of the movie business—today’s Best Visual Effects may well give way to tomorrow’s Best Use of De-Aging Technology. Recognition is currently meted out to winners in 24 categories, but that number isn’t set in stone, as categories have been added and discontinued over the years."

“None of us are walking out of here unless we work together.”
Warner Bros. has released a new TV spot for DC’s upcoming film Birds of Prey (And The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn). The spot offers us a little roll call of the characters that make up the Bird of Prey team. Harley Quinn isn’t the only one looking for emancipation!
While I’ve been hoping that this movie would be good and surprise me, I’ve heard that there’s been a lot of issues with the film from a couple of different sources. From what I’ve been told, the movie is terrible, the studio isn’t happy with it, and there’s no saving it. Now, I haven’t seen the movie myself, so I’m just going by what I’ve been told. So, there is a chance that it might be good,...
