The new season of Doctor Who is upon us. New episodes will start airing this Saturday, April 12 on Disney+ in most areas around the world, and on the BBC in Great Britain. There are eight new episodes coming our way, with one coming out each week. Here's the full schedule:

The new season of Doctor Who will feature the return of Ncuti Gatwa as the Doctor. His companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson) will return from the last season, but it looks like she'll have more of a supporting role. The main companion this time around will be Belinda Chandra (Varada Sethu).

Doctor Who returns for its new season in a couple of weeks! We'll catch up with Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor, alongside companion Ruby Sunday (Millie Gibson). And we'll also see the arrival of a new companion, Belinda Chandra, played by Varada Sethu.

Ncuti Gatwa's debut season was very much a mixed bag. It served as a soft reboot for the entire franchise, which is now being made with Disney cash, meaning a bigger budget and a wider audience thanks to new episodes dropping on Disney+. Episodes ranged from excellent, such as "73 Yards," to disappointing, like "Space Babies" and "The Devil's Chord."

The new season — which is the second, 15th or 41st depending on how you're counting — looks pretty wild, featuring everything from an episode set in 2007 to a battle with an escaped cartoon by the name of Mr. Ring-a-Ding (Alan Cumming). There's also a Eurovision-esque interstellar song contest hosted by Rylan Clark,...

Only a few weeks remain until the next installment of Doctor Who enters Disney+. Starring Ncuti Gatwaas the Fifteenth Doctor and Russell T. Davies as the series showrunner, this next installment will feature eight new episodes and a new companion. Now, we know what these new episode titles are called, hinting at what's to come in this "wibbly wobbly, timey wimey" British science fiction series.

According to the official Doctor Who website, Season 2's episode titles are "The Robot Revolution," "Lux," "The Well," "Lucky Day," "The Story & The Engine," "The Interstellar Song Contest," "Wish World," and "The Reality War." While the plot for most of these episodes remains unknown for the time being, it is safe to assume that the sixth episode takes inspiration from The Eurovision Song Contest. According to The Mirror, the episode in question is said to be the "most expensive" in the sci-fi series' 62-year history.

The show's official website has revealed that Doctor Who showrunner Russell T Davies will write five of the season's eight episodes, starting with the season premiere, "The Robot Revolution," which is directed by It's a Sin and Daredevil's Peter Hoar. Ncuti Gatwa's 15th Doctor meets a new friend in this episode, as Varada Sethu joins the Tardis as companion Belinda Chandra.

The Fifteenth Doctor is gearing up for a fresh set of adventures as Doctor Who season 15 prepares to launch on April 12, 2025. Ncuti Gatwa will once again step into the Doctor’s shoes, joined by Varada Sethu as the new companion Belinda Chandra.

Millie Gibson also returns as Ruby Sunday, the companion from season 14, after wrapping up her journey in 2024. The season promises a wild ride with eight episodes packed with action and wonder.

The episode titles, shared through a thread on the official Doctor Who X account, give a sneak peek into what’s ahead. The season kicks off with “The Robot Revolution,” followed by “Lux,” “The Well,” “Lucky Day,” “The Story & The Engine,” “The Interstellar Song Contest,” “Wish World,” and ends with “The Reality War.”

Each title came with a short, stylized video hinting at the episode’s theme, building excitement for the Doctor, Belinda, and Ruby’s upcoming challenges.

Whovians, it's nearly time to board the Tardis once again. In anticipation of the new season, debuting next month, the official BBC Doctor Who Instagram account unveiled the titles of every episode. And in doing so, they also revealed some intriguing background graphics that could give us some clues about the Doctor's (Ncuti Gatwa) upcoming adventures.

The BBC further revealed the writers and directors of each episode, with showrunner Russell T. Davies penning five of the eight installments. The other writers involved include Pete McTighe, Inua Ellams, and Juno Dawson. Of the title, writer, and director announcements, Davies said:

"Excitement mounts as the new season gets closer, and there's nothing a 'Doctor Who' fan loves more than facts! So here’s a whole bunch of them, with titles and writers, everything you need to get ready for transmission!"

John Beasley, known for his role in TV shows like Everwood and The Soul Man has died. He was 79.

Beasley’s son Mike, shared a touching post on Facebook honoring his late father.

“Man…you know this is a part of life…but that doesn’t make it any easier. I lost my best friend today,” he wrote. “They say you shouldn’t ever meet your heroes because they don’t turn out to be who you thought they were. That is so wrong. My hero was my father. Thank you for everything. I hope I made you proud. Love you more.”

Beasley was born in Omaha, Nebraska in June 26, 1943 and didn’t get started in acting until his 40s. His first acting credits were in films like V.I. Exclusive: Michael Patrick Jann has been tapped to direct the Western horror film Organ Trail for Paramount Pictures, with Olivia Applegate (Love and Death), Clé Bennett (The Man in the High Castle), Zoé De Grand Maison (Riverdale), Nicholas Logan (Dopesick), Sam Trammell (True Blood) and Jessica Frances Dukes (Ozark) signing on to star.

The film written by Meg Turner finds a young Abigale Archer friendless and alone in a brutal Montana winter during the 1870s—fighting for survival and to retrieve her one earthly possession, her family’s horse, from a gang of bloodthirsty bandits. Jann will produce alongside David Codron.

Jann is a writer, director and producer who began his career as a member of the sketch comedy group The State, then co-creating the MTV show of the same name. He served as an executive producer and director for the series Reno 911!, also exec producing Flight of the Conchords...

Paris-based Apc (About Premium Content) has acquired world sales rights on the six-part Finnish thriller “A Good Family,” currently filming in Estonia before moving back to Finland.

The high-end drama about love, marriage and parenthood is based on Finnish author and screenwriter Petri Karra’s 2019 novel “The Dark Light” (“Musta Valo”). The creative team takes in creator/producer Minna Virtanen, creator/writer Antti Pesonen and helmer Pete Riski, behind the crime show “Bullets,” which won the MIPDrama Buyers’ Coup de Coeur award in 2018 and launched on Walter Presents in the U.K. in January.

Virtanen said she started collaborating with Karra on the TV show concept even before his novel was published. Then Pesonen’s screenplay was polished by script editors Matti Laine (“The Paradise”) and Charlotte Lesche.

Olympia Dukakis, the veteran actress with over 200 roles to her name in stage, movie, and television production, has died. The beloved performer, perhaps best known for her Oscar-winning role in Moonstruck (1987), passed away on Saturday morning according to a Facebook post from her brother, Apollo Dukakis. No cause of death was given, but Apollo notes that Olympia had been suffering for months. She was 89 years old.

"My beloved sister, Olympia Dukakis, passed away this morning in New York City," Apollo wrote, including an image of Olympia. "After many months of failing health she is finally at peace with her Louis."

Apollo is referring to Louis Zorich, Olympia's late husband, who passed away years ago; the pair had been married since 1962 and had three children together. Zorich was also an actor who was famous for playing Burt Buchman, father of Paul Reiser's Paul Buchman, on the 1990s sitcom Mad About You.

Stage and screen actress Olympia Dukakis, who won an Oscar for her turn in 1988’s Moonstruck, has passed away. She was 89.

Dukakis died Saturday morning, with news of her passing shared by her brother, Apollo Dukakis, on Facebook. “My beloved sister, Olympia Dukakis, passed away this morning in New York City,” he wrote. “After many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her Louis.”

Olympia Dukakis, a character actress best known for her Oscar-winning supporting turn in Norman Jewison’s “Moonstruck” and for her role as the wealthy widow in “Steel Magnolias,” has died. She was 89.

Dukakis’ brother, Apollo Dukakis, confirmed her death to Variety. Apollo Dukakis announced her death in a Facebook post, writing: “My beloved sister, Olympia Dukakis, passed away this morning in New York City. After many months of failing health she is finally at peace and with her Louis.”

The actress was 56 when she came to prominence overnight thanks to her Oscar-winning turn in “Moonstruck,” the 1987 film in which she played, with an extraordinary comic ethnic gusto characteristic of the movie as a whole, the mother of Cher’s character. Inside a makeshift cafe set at Hong Kong’s luxurious Rosewood Hotel, local actor-producer Josie Ho sits across from British actor Julian Sands. Both are giving director Mike Figgis their full attention as he explains the scene that they are going to film.

What was said could not be heard from afar, despite the set being unusually quiet. Dolled up multi-racial extras and other crew members who were busy preparing the next shot whispered to each other. Everyone was patiently waiting for the director’s cue.

“I normally have a very quiet set,” Figgis (director of “Leaving Las Vegas” and “Internal Affairs”) told Variety on location with “Mother Tongue,” an arthouse mystery thriller that is among the latest efforts from 852 Films, a production company co-headed by Ho and husband Conroy Chan. “I asked for silence a lot. My whole technique is based on silence, based on talking quietly and intimately to actors.

About Premium Content (Apc) has boarded “Ever After,” a relationship drama produced by the award-winning Italian banner Indigo Films in the run up to MipTV.

“Ever After,” created by Giacomo Bendotti (“The Stolen Caravaggio”), is a six-part Italian drama series portraying a broken couple. Apc is repping ready-made and format rights to “Ever After.” Previously titled “The Promise,” the show was previously pitched at Series Mania.

Now in post, the series revolves around Anna and Enrico, who have been married for 11 years and start fighting each other to get the sole custody of their son. Weaving past and present, “Ever After” explore the reasons why their relationship deteriorated from unconditional love to psychological warfare.

Before landing the key Marvel role, Bennett recurred on the fourth season of Amazon’s Emmy-winning drama series The Man in the High Castle, as well as The Tick, the Showtime series, Homeland, and NBC’s Heroes Reborn. He’s won two Gemini Awards for his performance in HBO Canada’s The Line as well as the CBC miniseries, Guns.

“Mother Tongue,” a suspense thriller directed by two-time Academy Award nominee Mike Figgis starts shooting in Hong Kong this week. It stars and is produced by actor-singer-producer Josie Ho.

Figgis and Ho will hold a start-of production ceremony Wednesday at Hong Kong’s Shaw Studios. Production is expected to last until April with the completed film having set a tentative release schedule in January 2022.

Ho plays two characters. The first is an award-winning actress who is involved in a relationship with a younger woman played by Minami (“Battle Royale”) while in search of her long lost daughter, behind her partner’s back. She also plays the actress’s bitter sister.

Bruce Wagner penned the script and Ho is producing the film together with Conroy Chan, with whom she co-founded film entertainment 852 Films. “Mother Tongue” also stars Julian Sands (“A Room With A View”), Elaine Jin (“Mad World”) and Canon Nawata...

Netflix’s “Love Hard” has rounded out its cast as Nina Dobrev, Jimmy O. Yang, and “Riverdale’s” Charles Melton are set to star in the romantic comedy, according to an individual with knowledge of the project. Netflix preemptively acquired the project last August.

Hernán Jiménez is set to direct the trio in the rom-com.

The screenplay was written on spec by Danny Mackey and lit agent-turned screenwriter Rebecca Ewing. “love Hard” will be produced by McG and Mary Viola via their Wonderland banner. Executive producing is Steve Bello.

Following on from a July where they added a large number of horror titles to their catalogue, Hulu have now made available even more great outings from the genre. As with all the major streaming players, keeping subscribers happy with new content during this Covid-19 year has been crucial, especially given the new competitors that have sprung up in recent months, further splintering film rights. Hulu are usually pretty reliable in terms of diversity, though, and have added some particularly strong horror titles for August.

Among the highlights for new movies is the original 1988 Child’s Play, which introduced the murderous Chucky to the world in a film that arguably remains the high-point of the franchise. A reasonably realistic setting, a convincing child performance and some excellent effects work make Child’s Play a classic of the period and more than worth a rewatch. And with the Chucky series on the way,...

There are slow months for streaming services and then there are “choose a decade-old Chris Nolan movie as a header image” slow months for streaming services. Amazon Prime’s August 2020 clearly falls into the latter camp.

That’s not to say that there aren’t some interesting options arriving this month. August 1 has a few intriguing movies including Four Weddings and a Funeral, Inception, Rain Man, and even Spider-Man 3. But there aren’t many Amazon originals to speak of. Chemical Hearts, starring Lili Reinhart (Riverdale) premieres on August 20. Then on August 28, subscribers can get a sneak peek at Amazon’s new The Boys after show Prime Rewind: Inside the Boys.

After that, however, it’s pretty much just Capone on August 10. And who could turn down watching Tom Hardy just being the Hardiest?

Even though restrictions are beginning to be lifted in some parts of the world, the ongoing pandemic still continues. As a result, most folks are still spending longer stretches indoors, away from the bustling crowds. Thankfully, new content is continually being added into the mix, and Amazon Prime‘s upcoming August update looks set to be a real boredom-killer. Indeed, next month will see Prime Video release a variety of new films and TV series to help to turn all those frowns upside down.

Amazon is out with its list of everything new coming in August, and highlights include Amazon Originals like “Chemical Hearts” and “World’s Toughest Race: Eco Challenge Fiji.”

In terms of Amazon Original series, racing competition series “World’s Toughest Race: Eco Challenge Fiji” is out Aug. 14. New episodes of kids series “Jessy & Nessy” are out Aug. 7, and more “Clifford” is coming Aug. 21. Amazon Original movie “Chemical Hearts,” based on the novel by Krystal Sutherland, is out Aug. 21, and the special “Prime Rewind: Inside The Boys” is out Aug. 28.

Library additions include 2003’s “Something’s Gotta Give,” 1989’s “Steel Magnolias,” 2006’s “The Holiday,” 2010’s “Inception,” 1994’s “Four Weddings and a Funeral,” and season one of the classic series “Beverly Hillbillies,” all out Aug. 1.

Four Weddings And A Funeral...

Nina Dobrev and Made Up Stories have acquired the rights to Greer Macallister’s novel Woman 99 to develop as a TV series starring the Vampire Diaries alum. Dobrev also will executive produce alongside Made Up Stories founder Bruna Papandrea.

Historical thriller Woman 99 follows a young woman whose quest to free her sister from an infamous insane asylum risks her sanity, her safety and her life. Sourcebooks Landmark published the novel in March 2019.

The project is being developed by Made Up Stories in partnership with Endeavor Content. Made Up Stories’ Steve Hutensky and Casey Haver also will serve as executive producers, and Janice Park will serve as a producer, with Macallister as a consulting producer.

Hulu is out with its list of everything new arriving in August and everything leaving at the end of the month.

Highlights include “Ordinary Love,” a 2019 movie about how a couple endures a breast cancer diagnosis, and “Peanut Butter Falcon,” Shia Labeouf’s 2019 movie about a young man with Down syndrome who runs away from a nursing home to attend the wrestling school of his idol, the Salt Water Redneck.

Hulu Originals to look out for next month include Season 3 of “Find Me in Paris” and the Hulu Original premiere of “The Binge.”

Leaving at the end of the month are 2007’s “3:10 to Yuma,” 1973’s “Charlotte’s Web,” 1988’s “Rain Man,” and “The X-Files.”

A Good Woman...

We’re only just over halfway through July, but let’s hop ahead a couple of weeks into the future and take a look at what’s coming to Hulu in August. Next month will see the streaming service add an enormous list of movies and TV shows, with numerous classics amongst them, and everyone from horror to action to romance fans and even family audiences should be pleased with what’s coming.

The first day of the month, for example, brings the opening installments in two major horror franchises that kicked off in the late 80s – 1987’s Hellraiser and 1988’s Child’s Play. Sticking with the 80s, August 1st likewise sees 1986’s Top Gun added to the library, too. Not to mention 1981’s My Bloody Valentine.

For you romance lovers out there, meanwhile, Australia and Four Weddings and A Funeral drop the same day, and family audiences can enjoy Cats & Dogs,...

If you were concerned about there being a content drought in August due to the coronavirus pandemic shutting down Hollywood, you were…absolutely right in those concerns.

For its new releases in August 2020, Hulu is following Apple, Disney, and even Peacock’s lead in taking things nice and slowly. The vast majority of the notable offerings here are of the library variety. Hulu adds classic movies like Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Rain Man, and Top Gun on August 1. Those go along with the very much still-holds-up Casino Royale on August 31.

Hulu also has room for some interesting recent indie movies like Ordinary Love (Aug. 3) and Peanut Butter Falcon (Aug. 6). But when it comes to Hulu original content there’s not much going on. The unheralded Find Me in Paris debuts its third season on August 21. That is followed by original comedy The Binge on August 28. And that’s about it!

As we’re now at the halfway point of July, it’s time to begin looking ahead to what all the various streaming services will be bringing us in August. And while some of the big guns, like Netflix and Amazon Prime, have yet to announce their slate, Hulu has emerged first out of the gate today, dropping a massive line-up for next month.

A24 is ready to milk the weekend with their new film First Cow from director Kelly Reichardt. The film isn’t about a presidential cow, but it is about a special bovine creature.

Set in the 19th century, the film follows a lone cook (John Magaro) as he travels west with a group of fur trappers. Out of all of them, he connects with a Chinese immigrant (Orion Lee) and they collaborate on a lucrative business that hinges on the participation of a nearby wealthy landowner’s prized milking cow. Through her distinct vision, she tells what seems like a peculiar story but is, in fact, a tale about America and the sensitive depiction of the friendship between two men. All the while, First Cow builds suspense in its own special way.

Paris — “Narcos” showrunner Chris Brancato and “Godfather of Harlem” star Giancarlo Esposito, actors Carole Bouquet and Zabou Breitman, and the cast and crew behind the Canal Plus series “The Bureau” will be among the many guest of honor at this year’s Series Mania, which will kick off its 11th edition on March 20.

Returning to the north-eastern French city of Lille, Series Mania will once again offer a broad cross-section of international scripted dramas, with a selection culled from 25 different countries including Chile, Peru, Niger, Senegal and South Korea, alongside high profile productions from the U.S., the U.K. and France.

International TV event Series Mania has unveiled its 2020 lineup, which boasts world premieres for dramas including The Luminaries, Little Birds and Adult Material.

The event is staged in Lille, northern France, between March 20-28, and is becoming an increasingly prominent part of the international TV calendar, taking place in the week before Mip TV.

Tom Perrotta, creator of HBO’s The Leftovers, will serve as president of the International Competition jury, while guests of honor will include Breaking Bad star Giancarlo Esposito.

BBC Two’s The Luminaries will be screened as part of the opening and closing ceremonies. Based on Eleanor Catton’s 2013 novel of the same name, the six-part season stars Eva Green and is made by Working Title Television.

Mary Higgins Clark encouraged the flame of inspiration and burned mysteries in the minds of generations.

Popular mystery novelist Mary Higgins Clark died of natural causes in Naples, Florida, on Friday March 31, according to the New York Times.

"It is with deep sadness we say goodbye to the 'Queen of Suspense' Mary Higgins Clark, author of over 40 bestselling suspense titles," her publisher Simon & Schuster announced on Twitter. "She passed away peacefully this evening at the age of 92 surrounded by family and friends."

Higgins Clark was a widow in her late 30s with five children to support when her she published her first book. She would go on to write 56 best sellers, including Loves Music, Loves to Dance and Daddy's Little Girl, in a career spanning over 45 years. Her book sales topped 100 million copies and she won honors like the "Grand Master" statuette from the Mystery Writers of America,...

Twitter is linking with Oscilloscope Laboratories to do outreach on Ricky Tollman’s feature film debut, “Run This Town,” starring Grammy and Tony award-winner Ben Platt as a precocious journalist who stumbles into a life-altering story. The film will release day-and-date on March 6.

“Run This Town” follows Bram, a young newspaper intern who desperately wants to cover hard-hitting news but is stuck writing listicles; his fortunes suddenly change when he luckily finds some salacious information on ex-Toronto mayor Rob Ford and is thrust into a hasty investigation that links him with two of the mayor’s aides. It’s been 17 long years since “Rules of Attraction” director Roger Avary has released a film, during which time he was involved in a deadly car crash, charged with gross vehicle manslaughter, saw a work furlough translated into actual prison time, and watched things go south with Video Archives amigo Quentin Tarantino over the “Pulp Fiction” credit fiasco. Those are setbacks that might break the spine of a lesser scribe, but in Avary’s case, it seems to have strengthened his resolve to write — although until now, virtually nothing has been produced to show for it. Not for lack of trying. Some people are good at directing movies, and others are good at getting movies to direct. Avary hustled a number of projects, and somehow, “Lucky Day” was the first to get made.

I got the opportunity this week to watch the film Lucky Day, which was written and directed by Roger Avary, who wrote alongside Tarantino for Pulp Fiction, which this film felt like an homage or distant cousin to. The action/revenge flick stars Luke Bracey as Red, a safe-cracking thief who has just gotten out of prison, his beautiful wife, a french artist played by Nina Dobrev, their daughter, Ella Ryan Quinn, his best friend and literal partner in crime, Clé Bennett, their nanny, Nadia Farès, and Red’s hardened parole officer, Clifton Collins Jr., and Crispin Glover plays Luc, the assassin hellbent on a revenge mission that includes taking Red out for good.

Each portrayal was quirky, honest, and darkly funny. I was able to interview the actors Nina Dobrev and Crispin Glover about their experiences in portraying these characters, and we spoke a bit about what they each have coming up.

The latest clip from Lucky Day gives some insight into how awesomely over-the-top the movie is. We've all seen Crispin Glover blow up a cop car with a grenade launcher from the first trailer, so we know the movie is already a bit unhinged. Glover has had a pretty amazing career over the years from Back to the Future, all the way to Epic Movie, and he's showing no signs of slowing down or mellowing out. Lucky Day marks the first time the actor has been back on the big screen since 2010's Hot Tub Time Machine and he was missed.

Director Roger Avary, writer of Pulp Fiction and Killing Zoe, lends his high-energy, bone-crunching style to this crime saga starring Crispin Glover (American Gods), Nina Dobrev (Flatliners), and Luke Bracey (Point Break). Lionsgate has released a super fun red-band trailer for an awesome looking action revenge thriller called Lucky Day. The movie comes from writer and director Roger Avary, who is best known as the co-writer of Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction.
