Warning: Contains Spoilers for Fire & Blood, the book on which House of the Dragon is based.
Milly Alcock returning as Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon is less likely now she's been cast as Supergirl in the DC Universe. Taking on such a major franchise role makes it harder - though not impossible - to come back, and it had previously been confirmed she wouldn't return in season 2 anyway. Flashbacks or visions of Rhaenyra's younger years would have been powerful storytelling devices to bridge the gap in her history and further explore her relationship with Alicent.
Hopes for one theory about Rhaenyra Targaryen in House of the Dragon season 3 have, unfortunately, been dashed. Much of the excitement surrounding the Game of Thrones prequel is focused on the upcoming House of the Dragon season 2, which will release on HBO and Max in Summer 2024. The show is pretty much guaranteed a future beyond that,...

The politics of Barbie Land just became a lot more real.
After the Greta Gerwig-directed film was banned in Vietnam prior to its July 21 release date, a spokesperson for Warner Bros. responded to claims that a map featured in the trailer features the “nine-dash line,” which indicates China’s territorial claims over the South China Sea in areas Vietnam say deny its own sovereignty.
“The map in Barbie Land is a child-like crayon drawing,” the spokesperson told Variety. “The doodles depict Barbie’s make-believe journey from Barbie Land to the ‘real world.’ It was not intended to make any type of statement.”
Vi Kien Thanh, director general of the Vietnam Cinema Department under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, announced July 3 that “Barbie” will not be allowed to commercially screen in the country, as decided by the National Film Evaluation Council.

Greta Gerwig‘s Barbie will not be released in Vietnam. The country has banned commercial screenings of the film due to a scene that shows a map of the controversial “nine-dash line” in the South China Sea.
The U-shaped nine-dash line is a boundary China has used to claim territories in the South China Sea. This line is challenged by other nations in Southeast Asia such as Vietnam, which says the territorial declaration violates its sovereignty. Some of the contested areas are potentially rich in energy sources like oil and natural gas.
A court at The Hague in the Netherlands, which is home to the United Nation’s International Court of Justice, made a unanimous decision to reject the line, but China has ignored the ruling. There are currently no established tools for the implementation of the court’s verdict.
This is not the first movie Vietnam has banned because of the line.

While plenty of Western fans are hyping up for Greta Gerwig's upcoming Barbie film, the pinkest flick there probably ever will be, things aren't looking quite so bright across the Pacific. Per a report from Deadline, Barbie is apparently being banned from every single theater in Vietnam, over a political discrepancy regarding a map shown in the film depicting China's territorial claims in the South China Sea. The scene in question shows the map with the "nine-dash" line, which is contested by the Vietnamese government.

Playing a Targaryen is a tall order. Actors need both regal composure and would-burn-you-alive-if-you-put-a-foot-wrong unpredictability. They have to be fierce, boil with power, and somehow look convincing soaring into a scene on the back of a dragon while wearing a questionable wig.
Playing a Targaryen princess is an even taller order because actors have to do all of the above while also being about 12 years old.. Happily, House of the Dragon’s Milly Alcock, who plays the young Rhaenyra, is more than up to that challenge – as anybody who saw her in 2019 series Upright will already know.
Upright is by no means Alcock’s first acting job, the 22-year-old has already racked up major roles on Australian TV including spy thriller Pine Gap, Starz crime series The Gloaming and serial killer drama Reckoning. Upright though, is Alcock’s first co-lead and the first show to really prove what she’s capable of on screen.

Newcomer Milly Alcock stars as Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen in HBO's highly anticipated "Game of Thrones" prequel, "House of the Dragon." The actor made her big debut during the show's world premiere on Aug. 21, and she's already made quite the impression as the new heir to Viserys I's throne - but she has big shoes to fill as a core part of the show's story.
Alcock, who hails from Australia, has been acting since she was a teen, landing roles on shows like "High Life," "Pine Gap," and "The Gloaming." Despite coming from a "sporty family," the actor says she still managed to find her creative passion. "I think I got my interest in acting because everybody was uninterested in acting," she told Vogue Australia of her family in 2020. "I grew up in a predominantly rugby union household; it doesn't make any sense."

Despite coming from a "sporty family," the actor says she still managed to find her creative passion. "I think I got my interest in acting because everybody was uninterested in acting," she told Vogue Australia of her family in 2020. "I grew up in a predominantly rugby union household; it doesn't make any sense."

The upcoming Game of Thrones prequel, House of the Dragon, will feature an extensive ensemble cast. Even though the focus of House of the Dragon will primarily be on the Targaryens and their bloody civil war, there are plenty of characters outside the titular house of dragons that will help expand the world of Westeros during this time period. Set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, we get to see familiar houses and families at different stages of power, as well as powerful houses like the Velaryons who are all but wiped out by the time Game of Thrones begins. Like its predecessor, House of the Dragon will likely have plenty of drama, conspiracy, and questionable relationships between its characters as the season moves forward, but here’s what we know about the main cast so far.

House of the Dragon tells the story of House Targaryen and is set to debut this Sunday night on HBO Max.
The story will commence some 200 years prior to the events that unfolded in the network’s original series, Game of Thrones.
There, the Targaryens were almost a dead house with only Daenerys (Emilia Clarke) and Jon Snow Aka Aegon Targaryen, the last remaining members of this family.
However, in House of the Dragon, House Targaryen is in its heyday. Ruled by King Viserys (Paddy Considine), the line of succession is set to be passed down to his daughter, Rhaenyra Targaryen.
Rhaenyra’s story will be told from two perspectives, as an adult (and being portrayed by Emma D-Arcy) and as a young teen (Milly Alcock).

Sony’s “Uncharted” will not open in Vietnam after the country’s department of cinema banned it for containing a map that favors China’s claims over areas in the South China Sea.
The image of the map in the film concerns the so-called “nine-dash line,” an area of reefs in the South China Sea that is rich with oil and other natural resources — and the subject of a long-running dispute between China and Vietnam despite being part of Vietnam’s continental shelf.
“The film was banned from distribution after we watched it and found it contained an illegal image of the infamous nine-dash line,” the state-run Vietnam News Agency reported (via Reuters) based on comments by Vi Kien Thanh, head of the Department of Cinema, a government body in charge of licensing and censoring foreign films.

James Wan has announced that his new film Malignant has finished via Instagram and Facebook, along with this image.
Malignant comes out September 10th. I finally wrapped it last week. This was supposed to be my “little horror thriller” I do between the big ones, but the pandemic pushed it as long the big ones. I’m super excited for this film. I don’t even know how to describe it. I wanted to do something original and genre-bending, and different to my other work, but still in the spirit of the horror-thrillers I grew up with. More to come. #MalignantMovie

How does one go about deciding what to watch next? Perhaps you read articles like this, or perhaps you adhere to the recommendations that algorithms think you’ll enjoy. But those are run-of-the-mill. Instead, why not take them from a best-selling horror author whose works have been adapted for screen more than 50 times?
I am, of course, talking about Stephen King and the recommendations he’s long been beaming to his 6,000,000 Twitter followers. King’s newest favourite is Hanna, an Amazon Prime action drama that recently debuted its second season. The series “follows the journey of an extraordinary young girl raised in the forest, as she evades the relentless pursuit of an off-book CIA agent and tries to unearth the truth behind who she is.” And here’s what the author had to say about it on social media:
Hanna (Amazon Prime) is really smart and entertaining. Two seasons available.

Facing the prospect that the Federal Government will impose local content spending obligations on SVOD services, Netflix asserts it wants the right to negotiate how much it invests over the next three years.
In its submission to the government’s ‘Supporting Australian Stories on Our Screens’ options paper review, the streaming giant proposes a “flexible, reasonably-set voluntary investment model that meets cultural policy goals and incentivises wider investment.”
Netflix rejects option 3, which is favoured by Screen Producers Australia and all industry guilds and would require all delivery platforms to invest a minimum percentage of their Australian revenues into local scripted content, with annual sub-quotas for drama, documentary and children’s programs.

Stephen King, also known as the world’s most successful author, has been giving out tons of viewing recommendations to help his fans get through the quarantine. In the past, the writer has stuck to his usual Mo: thriller and horror. Recently, however, he’s expanded his tastes quite a bit, and these are all the movies and shows on Netflix that he’s given the thumbs up to.
For starters, King recommended Spike Lee’s new film Da 5 Bloods almost as soon as it was released. The first picture which the acclaimed director and civil rights activist produced in collaboration with the streamer, it’s quite a departure from his previous work. Although it’s still very much focused on black life and culture, this tale, about a group of war veterans, takes place not in Bed Stuy, but the jungles of Vietnam. King called it “fabulous,” and we agree.

No matter how long the coronavirus-induced quarantine regulations will last, we’ll never run out of things to watch. Should you have already completed your personal watch list though, fear not, as internationally acclaimed horror and thriller writer Stephen King has you covered. And the best part is, all his picks are available on Netflix.
Mostly, King’s collection includes some predictably gory and suspenseful entries. His first, for instance, is the 2019 zombie apocalypse web drama Black Summer. Set in the same universe as the ambitious Syfy show Z Nation, it follows a team of ordinary people as they embark on a quest to transport the single survivor of a zombie virus plague from New York to California. King had some very lofty things to mention about the show in his recent tweet, and watching it during an actual pandemic might amp up the scare factor, too.

Senator Sarah Hanson-Young.
Labor has attacked the federal government for five and a half years of inaction over screen sector reforms while the Australian Greens have advocated a suite of measures to support the industry.
