The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a franchise known for huge action blockbusters, with some deviations to their formula for applicable content, while A24 is an independent movie and television company that prioritizes an auteur’s aesthetic as well as more intimate character dynamics. Marvel capitalizes on a specific opportunity with Thunderbolts* and framed its latest marketing material for the upcoming movie within the context of the cast and crew’s A24 connection.
Kevin Feige and the MCU decision-makers clearly perceive A24 productions as having a niche filmmaking advantage, at least in terms of a project’s quality. And most importantly, the filmmakers may have purposefully brought some of those cinematic practices and perspectives to Thunderbolts*.
After all, the Thor trailer does not highlight director Kenneth Branagh’s Shakespearian background, and the advertisements for Avenger epics do not point out that many of the stars are Oscar nominees. This Thunderbolts* campaign...

Ramy creator and star Ramy Youssef has given a promising update on the chances of a fourth season of Hulu's hit comedy-drama. The show sees Youssef playing the titular character, an American-Muslim man who tries to navigate his faith and lifestyle in modern-day New Jersey. Ramy season 1 debuted on Hulu in 2019 with 10 episodes. The series has so far run three seasons and 30 episodes, earning critical acclaim for its positive portrayal of Muslims in the West, with Youssef earning a Golden Globe Award for his performance.
In an interview with ScreenRant at SXSW on the #1 Happy Family USA red carpet, Youssef talked about the possibility of Ramy returning for a fourth season. He responded positively when asked about the chances of more Ramy in the future, indicating that another season might happen at some point, but he doesn't know when. Nevertheless, he remains optimistic about the Hulu series continuing in the future.

The movie that will serve as Jesse Armstrong’s follow-up to Succession has announced its lead actors and is set to begin production soon. It even has a rough premiere date — HBO says it’s set to air sometime in the spring.
Steve Carell (The Office, The Patient) Jason Schwartzman (Bored to Death, Megalopolis), Cory Michael Smith (Saturday Night) and Ramy Youssef (Ramy, Poor Things) will star in the film, playing “a group of billionaire friends who get together against the backdrop of a rolling international crisis,” per the movie’s logline.
What the film doesn’t have yet — or at least, isn’t being revealed yet — is a title. HBO released an image of the first page from Armstrong’s script (see it below), but the title is obscured as if the ink has bled from getting wet.

[This story contains spoilers from season two of Mo.]
“The way I would describe the season is bittersweet. Everything was bittersweet, and it felt that way throughout the entire season,” Mo Amer, the star, creator, writer and first-time director tells The Hollywood Reporter about the Netflix show’s second and final season.
The groundbreaking series, which debuted in 2022 and is executive produced by Ramy Youssef, centers Mo Najjar, a Palestinian refugee, and his family awaiting asylum for two years in the heart and heat of Houston, Texas. Celebrated not only for its rare centering of Palestinians, the show has been lauded for its expert balance of drama and comedy while exploring issues around immigration, religion, language and disability.
Following a critically acclaimed first season, Netflix announced in early 2023 that the half-hour comedy would be returning for a final eight episodes — an endeavor that took nearly two years. “We started the writing room, I believe, in late March, the first week in April.

I am still coming off the high caused by The Muslim House activation at the Sundance Film Festival in late January. It was an inspiring space for fostering inclusion and elevating creative voices from American-Muslims and other emerging communities.
Despite President Donald Trump’s executive order around Dei programs, there is still momentum in what television audiences will soon witness. For the first time in American television history, three series that portray Muslim communities will premiere within the first three months of 2025, marking a pivotal moment in the continued evolution of Muslim portrayals in Hollywood. This marks a victory for Muslim creatives working to combat the lingering impact of the decades-old vilification, racism and harmful depictions of Muslims — and as we can see from deleted racist tweets by Karla Sofía Gascón supporting a ban of Islam in Europe despite being a member of a vulnerable community herself, there is still much work to do.

When the story picks up with Mo Najjar in Mo season 2 this month, he definitely has a lot on his plate. And getting back into the U.S. after crossing the border into Mexico isn't going to be his biggest problem, as revealed in the official trailer.
Mo season 2 premieres Thursday, Jan. 30, 2025 with all 8 episodes on Netflix. As we saw by the end of season 1, the Palestinian refugee and his family still haven't gotten a U.S. citizenship despite being in the country for over 20 years. That means he can't leave or he loses his asylum.
Though due to a few factors, he accidentally ends up in Mexico. So what happens next? It's not an easy way back home, and the trailer shows us how long he's been gone. We shared it below:
Poor guy has been in Mexico for six months, which is not a short amount of time!

Travis Wheatley, the horse trainer portrayed by “Yellowstone” creator Taylor Sheridan, has long been a memorable part of the Paramount Network original. But on Sunday night, the character not only secured an episode that was almost entirely about him. He got an A-list girlfriend.
Your eyes didn’t deceive you. Bella Hadid was, in fact, on “Yellowstone” Season 5, Episode 13.
Who does Bella Hadid play in “Yellowstone”?
That would be Travis’ girlfriend, Sadie. “Give the World Away” actually marks her second appearance on the show as, according to IMDb, she first appeared in Episode 12, “Counting Coup.”
In Sunday night’s episode, a disgusted Beth (Kelly Reilly) asks Sadie why anyone would date Travis. “He is probably the most arrogant man that I have ever met in my entire life. Condescending. Misogynistic. At least 25 years older than you. Can you please explain the appeal?” Beth asks.
“You ever seen him ride before?...

The following contains spoilers for "Yellowstone" season 5, episode 13, "Give the World Away."
Taylor Sheridan's "Yellowstone" has ruffled plenty of fan feathers as of late. John Dutton's (Kevin Costner) season 5 death has been controversial for viewers, and several narrative choices have also caused us to question if "Yellowstone" has lost its way. Still, Sheridan himself probably doesn't mind too much. As the creator of the most popular neo-Western around, the man is living the dream -- and even gets to appear onscreen when he feels like it, thanks to his role as capable horse trainer Travis Wheatley. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the boisterous character is a bit of a winner in the "Yellowstone" universe, and now, the show has added a new layer to the "Travis Wheatley is a high roller" cake with the season 5 episode "Give the World Away."

The HBO drama Succession followed the corporate wars between Brian Cox’s Logan Roy and his three children, who struggled to gain control of their media conglomerate company Waystar RoyCo. The series was widely regarded for its performances, and writing, and also won the Golden Globe and Primetime Emmy for Best Drama Series.
While Cox’s character faced many obstacles in his bid to save his empire, no one was as dangerous as Marcia Roy, his third wife played by Hiam Abbass. The Palestinian actress had been in multiple films such as Blade Runner 2049 and Munich before she joined the series. Abbass mentioned that she was against TV shows before joining Succession.

The Match Factory will handle international sales for director Cherien Dabis’ decades spanning family saga “All That’s Left of You.”
Currently in post-production and by all accounts among the most anticipated projects presented at this year’s Atlas Workshops, the film follows three generations of a Palestinian family, tracking cycles of trauma beginning with the 1948 displacement from Jaffa and continuing through occupation, violence and present day heartbreak in the West Bank.
An acclaimed filmmaker and actor, Dabis stars as well, anchoring the film as a devastated mother to a teenaged son injured by an Israeli soldier. As her son’s life hangs in the balance, the grief-struck woman tries to make sense of her family and people’s heritage. Actors – and brothers – Saleh Bakri (“The Blue Caftan”) and Adam Bakri (“Omar”) co-star alongside father Mohammad Bakri, making the project a truly intergenerational portrait.

For an actor, there is probably nothing like the excitement of being cast in a big-budget film directed by a prolific director alongside a stellar ensemble cast. Moon Knight actress May Calamawy experienced that in 2023 when she was cast in Ridley Scott's Gladiator II in what was reported to be a lead role. However, as moviegoers began seeing the highly-anticipated sequel last week, Calamawy was nowhere to be found in the film, and now the actress has confirmed that her entire speaking role was cut from the theatrical release of the movie.
According to a social media post from the London Comic-Con via The Playlist, Calamawy confirmed that her speaking role was cut from Gladiator II. The actress didn't provide major details but went on to indicate that it was one of the best experiences of her life and that she enjoyed working with Denzel Washington, who plays Macrinus in the film.

Politics and the entertainment industry go way back for neither can really exist without the other. So while the main purpose of actors and actresses is to ‘entertain’ the audience, they cannot really exist in a vacuum given their immense fanbase and influence. This was a feat we saw at the recently held Presidential elections in the US. Similarly, when it comes to situations like wars and conflicts or an issue as indispensable as the Palestine-Israel one, for years celebrities have spoken up in the support of one or the other.

A sci-fi thriller Stephen Kingadaptation is now available to stream after being removed from another platform. Across film and television, there is a litany of upcoming King adaptations in various stages of development. On the immediate front, however, there are three big-screen projects to watch for: The Monkey, helmed by Longlegs director Osgood Perkins; Edgar Wright's The Running Man starring Glen Powell; and Francis Lawrence's The Long Walk. The first two movies are slated for 2025, while the third is undated.
On the TV side, there's Welcome to Derry, the television adaptation of the It movies, which will bring back Bill Skarsgrd in the role of Pennywise. It was also recently announced that King's seminal novel Carrie will be adapted as a miniseries by The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass creator Mike Flanagan. But before those hit screens, a well-received sci-fi thriller may be getting a second look from audiences,...

Love is back! Not that it ever went anywhere, but with all the things the world has gone through over the past five or so years, it’s no surprise that people are here for two people falling headfirst into that warm feeling we call love. A romantic comedy TV series is a great way to explore all the stages of courtship in a way a movie just can’t. From the meet-cute to the first date, to the big “I love you,” all the way to “I do” – rom-com TV shows have it all! That’s the expectation, at least, for Netflix’s newest addition to the genre: “Nobody Wants This,” debuting on Thursday, Sept. 26. The series follows an agnostic sex podcaster (Kristin Bell) and a newly single rabbi (Adam Brody) who fall in love despite all of the obvious personal and culture differences. So to celebrate a resurgence of rom-coms,...

The first official trailer for Ridley Scott's long-awaited historical action epic Gladiator II has arrived online and it's every bit as epic as you'd expect as Paul Mescal (Normal People; Aftersun; The Lost Daughter) squares off against 3x Primetime Emmy-nominee Pedro Pascal (The Mandalorian; Game of Thrones; Narcos) and Academy Award-winner Denzel Washington (Training Day; Fences; Malcolm X).

Years after witnessing the death of the revered hero Maximus at the hands of his uncle, Lucius (Paul Mescal) is forced to enter the Colosseum after his home is conquered by the tyrannical Emperors who now lead Rome with an iron fist. With rage in his heart and the future of the Empire at stake, Lucius must look to his past to find strength and honor to return the glory of Rome to its people.

The Bear has to be one of the best series ever created. The FX comedy-drama series is intense, funny, tragic, and has some of the most beautiful-looking food I’ve ever seen. Created by Christopher Storer, The Bear follows the story of Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, an award-winning working in one of the best restaurants in the United States, as he moves back to Chicago to run his family-owned sandwich shop after a tragic incident. The Bear aired its third season recently, and I’m happy to say that the series is getting better with every new season. We are also happy that The Bear was renewed for a fourth season ahead of its Season 3 premiere. The Bear stars Jeremy Allen White in the lead role, with Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach, Abby Elliott, Matty Matheson, Jon Bernthal, Oliver Platt, L-Boy, and Edwin Lee Gibson starring in supporting. A24 has received an influx of cash from Josh Kushner’s Thrive Capital that now values the indie studio at $3.5 billion (enterprise value), a source with knowledge of the investment told IndieWire. The studio’s new valuation is 40 percent higher than it was for the last round of funding: 2022’s $225 million investment at a $2.5 billion valuation.
That doesn’t mean Kushner threw $1 billion into the pot — far from it. Existing investors from the previous round have also upped their financial support for this new round, A24 said on Wednesday. Additionally, the A24 brand has just organically grown its valuation with its successes in recent years, including “Everything Everywhere All at Once” (2022), “Talk to Me” (2022), and this year’s “Civil War.”
But still, it must have been substantial. The Financial Times reported Kushner’s investment was $100 million, which we understand to be in the ballpark.

The company also received increased support from existing investors who participated in the previous round including Ken Fox’s private equity firm Stripes, and investment fund Neuberger Berman.
There was no dollar figure given in the announcement of the fund raise, the company’s second. In 2022, it secured a $225 million equity investment led by Stripes that valued A24 at $2.5 billion. Deadline hears the investment announced today reps an increase in valuation of 40% since then, valuing it at just over $3.5 billion.
Nor did the company behind Civil War and Beef specify how it will use the funds. Deadline hears it will invest in and expand production and distribution and continue work on initiatives beyond the screen from music and publishing to consumer products and live theater.

Michael Chernus will lead Peacock’s upcoming limited drama series, “Devil in Disguise: John Wayne Gacy” as the harrowing serial killer.
“I’m both excited and humbled by this opportunity. The direction that the writers are taking with this project is important, focusing on the victims and their families as well as those who finally brought John Wayne Gacy to justice,” says Chernus. “While Gacy was the perpetrator of these horrific crimes, I’m relieved that he won’t be the main focus of the series. It’s heartbreaking for me to think of what his victims (all young men and boys) could have done with their lives had the system not failed them so tragically. I believe in the power of storytelling and hope that by telling this story, in a thoughtful way, we can play some part in preventing this from ever happening again.”
Chernus currently plays Dr.

The actor takes on an unfamiliar role – as herself – in her daughter Lina Soualem’s film documenting four generations of Palestinian women
Hiam Abbass felt “suffocated” growing up as a Palestinian woman in what had recently become the state of Israel. She was unable to travel to other Arab countries where her own relatives had been forced to live after being expelled during the Nakba of 1948. Feeling at odds with the rest of the world drove her into the arts,
and she enrolled at a photography school in Haifa. Working as a photographer for El-Hakawati theater in Jerusalem was her first step towards acting professionally. “Build a career is not even really the right term,” she says. “What it meant was just to exist, to be what you want to be, without having to give answers at every second of the day to hundreds and hundreds of people.”

Ramy season 4's return date is uncertain, but series star and co-creator Ramy Youssef says the show will return. Hulu remains open to picking up the show for one or two seasons in the future. Despite the show's potential ending, it has accomplished much in highlighting Muslim-American stories and a talented cast.
Ramy season 4 gets an encouraging update from creator and star Ramy Youssef two years after the season 3 finale. Centering on Ramy Hassan (Youssef) and his family by delving into their lives and experiences as a Muslim American family living in New Jersey, the A24-produced dramedy has helped to define Hulu and highlight standout talents both in front of and behind the camera. But as the cast and crew have taken on other projects, it remains a question mark as to when the Golden Globe-winning show will return for season 4.

Ramy Youssef’s latest HBO special, “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” had been in the works for years — and had evolved over time as Youssef got in a relationship and eventually got married. But some of his routine also became very more front and center for audiences in the wake of the war in Gaza.
“There’s stuff that I do touch on, a tightrope walk of taking really big concepts, and then making them super personal,” Youssef tells Variety‘s Awards Circuit Podcast. “With our show [Hulu’s “Ramy”], we had already done that with Palestine and Israel. And in my stand up, I had already done versions of it. But in the last seven or eight months, it became something that has risen to the surface for everybody. When you’re taking your time to talk about it for 10 minutes in a set, it’s important to you. On a show,...

Ari Katcher is a comedy writer. He’s an expert in story structure and instrumental in helping comedians like Ramy Youssef turn their autobiographical stand-up into a scripted series (“Ramy”). He did the same for his close friend and longtime collaborator Jerrod Carmichael as co-creator of the NBC sitcom “The Carmichael Show” and screenwriter of the comedian’s directorial debut “On the Count of Three.”
Katcher is also the co-creator and director of the unscripted “Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show,” in which the standup turned the cameras on his personal life. The show is revelatory in its unbridled honesty that spares no one, least of all Carmichael himself. It also demanded that Katcher be both concerned friend and a goal-driven storyteller, often at the same time.
“I was kind of writing the stories as they go,” he said. “[I was] having to balance what is good for him versus what is good for the story,...
