Guy Ritchie's underrated spy comedy film starring Jason Statham will soon have a new streaming home. Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre will be available on Peacock on April 28.
Released in 2023, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre sees special agent and elite spy Orson Fortune (Statham) working to retrieve a stolen high-tech device called "The Handle" before an arms dealer (Hugh Grant) can auction it off to the highest bidder. In order to get back The Handle, Orson assembles an elite team of undercover agents. In addition to Statham and Grant, the film stars Aubrey Plaza, Josh Hartnett, Cary Elwes, Bugzy Malone and Eddie Marsan. Ritchie wrote, directed and produced.
The theatrical release of Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre faced several setbacks around the world. It was reported that the film was pulled from release because of its depiction of Ukrainian gangsters being the main antagonists working with Grant's villainous character.

It may be hard for folks who weren't around at the time to understand, but there was a moment when Hugh Grant appeared poised to become one of the biggest movie stars on the planet.
Flashback to the spring of 1994. Bill Clinton was a popular U.S. President, everyone was drinking Zima, and moviegoers were flocking to cineplexes to see the British rom-com "Four Weddings and a Funeral." It was a surprise hit that picked up word-of-mouth steam via a slow roll-out from its distributor Gramercy Pictures, which was fortunate to have a great, immensely appealing film at a time when theaters were being inundated with dreck like "Major League II," "Cops and Robbersons" and "D2: The Mighty Ducks."
While "Four Weddings and a Funeral" is at heart an ensemble comedy, Grant's endearingly flappable demeanor and effortless delivery of the film's hilariously quippy dialogue had some critics comparing him to Hollywood's greatest Grant.

Ranking any performer's filmography comes with the need for at least some clarification, and that's especially true when it comes to action stars. Are they being ranked on the performance, the amazing action they deliver, or on the quality of the film as a whole? Are all films eligible or just the ones where the performer has a lead role? Does more action automatically land a film higher on the list? Does the person doing the ranking have impeccable taste when it comes to action cinema?
Below you'll find a ranking of Jason Statham movies, and here are the answers to those questions above. The films are ranked on their overall value as action films. We're focusing on Statham's lead roles -- otherwise "Spy" would dominate the top spot (and "The Way of the Dragon" would have made our ranked list of the best Chuck Norris films) -- whether as...

Spoiler Alert: Don't get stung — this article contains signposted spoilers for The Beekeeper.
Some buzzy news for your Friday morning! Following the global box office success of last year's David Ayer and Jason Statham action thriller The Beekeeper, The Stath's assassin-turned-apiarist-turned-assassin-again Adam Clay is set to make a busy (probably murderous) bee of himself once again in Miramax's The Beekeeper 2. And what's more, per Deadline's reporting, Indonesian action filmmaker Timo Tjahjanto is making a beeline for the director's hotseat and will be the man calling the shots on the upcoming sequel.
We know vanishingly little about what The Beekeeper 2, penned by the first movie's scribe Kurt Wimmer, will entail at this point, but we do know that cameras are due to start rolling on the sequel — which is sure to have a, er, sting in its tale — before the year is through. And while Ayer won't be at the helm for the follow-up,...

Jason Statham has done a violent dance movie villains on land, sea, and occasionally even in the air, but in Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, he relies a little more on some witty banter than straight-up bruiser tactics to deal with his adversaries. The British tough guy leads Guy Ritchie’s action caper, which sees him teaming up with Aubrey Plaza, Cary Elwes, Josh Hartnett, and a movie-stealing Hugh Grant in full Trump-tan, and pulls out a performance that audiences loved when the film was originally released in 2023.
The film operates in familiar territory for anyone who has followed Statham’s roles in his spy-orientated mode. This time around, he stars as Orson Fortune, a covert operative whose skill set and deadpan snark make comparisons to a certain British super spy inevitable, even if he likes to get a little more down and dirty than any 007 ever did. However, while Bond movies play things straight,...

In 2023, Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham collaborated on their fifth feature film together, the spy action comedy, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre. Unfortunately, the film wasn't the sort of box-office success that the usual winning combination of Ritchie and Statham should have resulted in. Since then, Ritchie has gone on to direct three more films, all of which without the involvement of Statham, and it remains to be seen exactly if and when the two of them will ever collaborate again. In bleak and troubled times, sometimes all it takes is seeing Jason Statham scowling in a hardhat to make it feel like maybe everything will be okay in the end after all. And that's exactly what we get in the no fuss, no muss first trailer for A Working Man, the Stath's latest team-up with The Beekeeper director David Ayer. Boasting a screenplay co-written by Ayer alongside action icon Sylvester Stallone, this one — surely the second in what will come to be known as The Three (Blue) Collars Trilogy — sees Stath play brilliantly named ex-black ops agent Levon Cade, whose humble construction worker life is upended when his boss' daughter goes missing. If it sounds like an old-school action dust-up waiting to happen, then it looks like one too — and a darn tasty one at that. Just check out the trailer below:

The ending of Guy Ritchie's 2021 heist thriller Wrath of Man sees Jason Statham's H finding absolution. Statham, the beloved leading man and action star known for his iconic works such as Crank (2006), Spy (2015), The Meg (2018), and the recent sleeper hit The Beekeeper, is in top form in Wrath of Man, a gripping story of revenge and greed. Wrath of Man's cast also features Josh Hartnett, Holt McCallany, and Scott Eastwood as the main antagonist Jan.
Wrath of Man was the fourth feature film collaboration between Ritchie and Statham before their fifth movie together, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, which also stars Josh Hartnett, was released in 2023. After joining the armored cash truck service Fortico at the beginning of the film, Statham's H protagonist turns out to be a former heist man himself whose son, Dougie (Eli Brown), is killed by an elite group of army veterans turned cash truck robbers.

Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie have had some extremely popular movies over the years. As an action hero, Statham helped to bring a familiar face and star power to every venture. The renowned actor starred in Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (2019), Fast X (2023), and The Expendables 3 (2014). He recently led a franchise of his own in 2024's The Beekeeper, which earned modest success at the box office in an otherwise quiet January.

The cast of The Meg was a big reason for the shark movie's box office success when it was released back in 2018. A loose adaptation of the book, Meg: A Novel of Deep Terror by Steve Alten, the film follows a group of scientists who encounter a 75-foot-long Megalodon shark while on a rescue mission to save a trapped research station called the Mana. Posing a threat to both the scientists and the people on land, Jason Statham's Jonas Taylor and his team must face off against this gigantic beast in a confrontation that is equally silly and entertaining.
At the time, The Meg was the most expensive shark movie ever made (via THR). While the film received mixed reviews, that investment paid off as it earned $529 million at the box office (via Box Office Mojo), a large part of that coming China, where the film is most popular.

While the trailer for Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy looks promising, it is still strange to see series villain Hugh Grant return to rom-com territory after a string of darker roles. Early in his career, Hugh Grant largely steered clear of darker fare. His lone early horror role, 1988s The Lair of the White Worm, was a campy, silly supernatural horror-comedy that leaned into the latter over the former. His biggest successes throughout the 90s came in the form of romantic period dramas like Sense and Sensibility and rom-coms. Grant starred in a lot of classic rom-coms.

Jason Statham still hasnt appeared in a James Bond movie and might never get to so Mechanic: Resurrection is the closest thing to a Bond film starring Statham. Jason Statham and Guy Ritchie have made a total of five movies together across more than two decades of collaboration, but they still havent topped their first film. Statham and Ritchies careers have been intertwined since the very beginning; they both got their start in movies at the same time. When Ritchie was plotting his debut feature the 1998 crime comedy Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels he discovered Stathams potential as an actor. At the time, Statham was known as a diver and a model.

It sounds like Jason Statham could be returning to one of his biggest action franchises, as his Expendables co-star Randy Couture has teased the (very) early development of a possible The Expendables 5. After sharing the screen with fellow action icon Sylvester Stallone in three movies, Statham took the lead in last years much-maligned Expend4bles. However, while the fourth outing left a lot to be desired, Couture has revealed that there is now some talk about how to bring the titular gang back for another mission.
In an interview with Mens Journal, the former UFC fighter, who has starred as demolitions expert Toll Road throughout the series, heaped praise on The Stath, and hopes that rumors about Wrath of Man director Guy Ritchie reuniting with the action star to helm The Expendables 5 (The Expendable5?) turn out to be true.

Charming and witty, with a smile that could make anyone swoon, its completely understandable why Hugh Grant has long been cast as the romantic interest in so many of our favorite films. Whether youre a fan of Notting Hill or Love Actually, or maybe even the Bridget Jones film series, Grant has the ability to charm even the most cold-hearted among us. In recent years, the actor has been flexing a different part of his acting muscles, leaning more into the dark and dismal versus the handsome leading man. Through performances in titles like Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre and Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves, the BAFTA recipient has cheekily flashed a completely different side. In his most chilling performance yet, Grant takes the lead in Scott Beck and Bryan Woods Heretic. Uncovering the darker side of belief systems and religion, the movie follows Grants Mr. Reed, a man...

Ritchie's filmography has gone on to span Disney remakes, gangster films and interpretations of literary classics. Whilst there's a noticeable range of genres, he's managed to put his stamp on everyone. Some of his trademarks are subtle, but it's easy to spot a Ritchie creation from the moment the opening credits roll.

Guy Ritchie and Jason Statham have made several movies together, beginning their professional partnership way back in 1998 with Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels. From there, the pair have worked together several times on movies that often have very similar styles and themes: theyre dark, gritty thrillers where Statham brings his signature stoicism to Guy Ritchies consistently witty scripts. But their most recent collaboration, Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre, didnt quite receive the acclaim that it deserved. It may not be Guy Ritchies best movie, but it comes close to the rest of his filmography in several ways.
Statham is best-known for his all-out action roles in franchises like Fast & Furious or The Expendables, so its always a pleasant surprise when Ritchie gives him an opportunity to tone it down somewhat in his standalone movies. His latest project was a perfect example of this, but it still failed both critically and commercially.

Jason Statham is a great action movie star, but his deadpan debut performance in Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels proves hes even better at delivering pitch-black comedy. Statham is one of the few movie stars left who can turn a movie into a blockbuster based on their involvement alone. Statham is the only reason The Beekeeper was a box office hit. Even when it comes to his own franchises, like Crank, The Meg, and The Expendables, its Stathams star power that draws in the crowds, not the I.P.
Statham is always awesome in his action movies. No one other than Statham could fight a megalodon in hand-to-hand combat with a straight face and really sell it. No one other than Statham could end one of his movies with a hallucinatory kaiju battle and not make it feel like jumping the shark. But Stathams first film role in Guy Ritchies crime caper Lock,...

Spy proves one glaring truth about the career of Jason Statham. Statham is an action movie icon whose movies have earned more than $8.4 billion collectively, with some of the highest-grossing being The Fate of the Furious ($1.24 billion), The Meg ($529.3 million), and The Expendables 2 ($274.5 million). Statham has proved to be a box office draw both as a lead in franchises such as The Mechanic, The Transporter, and Crank and as a supporting character, particularly Deckard Shaw in the Fast Saga, who held a title role in the 2019 spinoff Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw.
However, amid his many successful standalone and franchise action movies, Spy reviews have earned the star his best Rotten Tomatoes score yet with a near-perfect, Certified Fresh, 95% score on the review aggregator platform. Jason Statham has made it clear that hed love to be in a James Bond movie, and its about time he was cast in one, because hed be perfect for just about any role in a Bond film. Statham is no stranger to big Hollywood franchises; he starred in the Meg, Crank, and Transporter series. He inherited the Expendables franchise from his co-star Sylvester Stallone, and he joined the Fast & Furious saga late in the game. But surprisingly, hes never been in a Bond movie.

It's safe to say you haven't seen Hugh Grant quite like this. The lovable character actor has always been something of a chameleon, appearing in everything from family-friendly comedies (most recently "Paddington 2") to murder-mysteries (director Rian Johnson's "Glass Onion") to harder-edged genre movies (Guy Ritchie's "The Gentlemen" in 2019 and "Operation Fortune: Ruse de Guerre" last year) to blockbuster musicals and adventure movies -- hello, scene-stealing appearances as an Oompa Loompa in "Wonka" and as Forge in "Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves." His next role is utterly unlike any of those previous ones, however. Leave it to A24 and directors Scott Beck and Bryan Woods to bring out a whole new side of him in "Heretic."

Grant was a delightful watch as the film’s villain, but looking on from the outside, it seems that film didn’t hit the commercial heights needed to justify a sequel.

In recent years, Josh Hartnett has mounted an unexpected comeback as a sturdy character actor in Wrath of Man, Operation Fortune, and the Best Picture-winning moviegoing sensation, Oppenheimer. Hartnett's current leading role in the new M. Night Shyamalan experience, Trap, teases an unforeseen dark side of his wholesomeness. His days of drawing a teen audience to swoon at the sight of his beauty may be over, but directors like Guy Ritchie, Christopher Nolan, and Shyamalan have reinvented Hartnett's image into something more viable.

The role of Superman is undoubtedly one of the most exciting ones in the world of superheroes. So, if you’re into that sort of thing, there is certainly a lot to take from the role, and it is one of the best roles that an actor can get. But, as it often turns out in Hollywood, some actors tend to have a false perception of a role at one point. Guy Ritchie could rescue Jason Statham's Expendables franchise with his unique action style and history with the star. The Expendables 4's failure highlights the need for a fresh approach and a new creative voice for the franchise. Another Expendables film may happen, but it will likely require a dramatic overhaul to attract fans and newcomers.
One of Jason Statham's biggest franchises is in trouble, but the filmmaker who gave him his big break could be the one to rescue it. Before Jason Statham's first action role in Ghosts of Mars, he was known for more comedic performances in British gangster films. The Transporter changed the course of his career, and he soon became the next big action star. Jason Statham action movies are almost always a good time - even the bad ones - and while he occasionally steps outside the genre, he knows what audiences want to see him doing.

Josh Hartnett's modern comeback includes Black Mirror, Oppenheimer, and The Bear. His upcoming film, Trap, is expected to be profitable regardless of its Rotten Tomatoes score. Hartnett may reprise his role in The Bear season 4 and star in more summer blockbusters.
I'm thrilled about how Josh Hartnett has returned to the spotlight over the past few years. Hartnett's well-received and celebrated comeback began in 2023 when he starred alongside Aaron Paul in one of the most celebrated episodes of Black Mirror season 6 titled "Beyond the Sea". Hartnett starred as David Ross in the Black Mirror episode, which takes place in an alternate version of 1969. Hartnett and Paul playing astronauts in Black Mirror is just about all I needed to strap in for the exceptional episode, which plays out more like a movie with a lengthy runtime of one hour and nineteen minutes.
Hartnett then doubled down on his big return...

Josh Hartnett's cameo as Tiff's fianc in The Bear season 3 adds depth to Richie's character. Hartnett's recent career resurgence includes roles in Oppenheimer, Operation Fortune, Black Mirror, and M. Night Shyamalan's Trap. Richie confronts his loneliness after learning about Tiff's engagement, leading to a potential romantic interest in the matre d'htel of the Ever.
Warning: This article contains spoilers for The Bear season 3.
Josh Hartnetts unexpected guest appearance in The Bear season 3 was a nice surprise, but his character only served to make me feel even worse for Richie. The Bear season 2 featured a few mentions of Tiffs fianc Frank, but he never appeared on-screen. In season 3, as Tiff and Franks wedding gets closer and closer, Frank finally makes his first on-screen appearance and hes played by a familiar face. The season featured plenty of A-list cameos, ranging from John Cena as a Fak to Thomas Keller as himself,...
