Exclusive: Award-winning documentary filmmaker Pinny Grylls, and award-winning filmmaker, video artist and actor Sam Crane have signed with Anonymous Content for representation.

The duo teamed to direct their debut feature, Grand Theft Hamlet, which won the Documentary Grand Jury Award at SXSW this year. The movie documents their journey to stage a live performance of Hamlet inside Grand Theft Auto, which won a Stage Innovation Award. The film has been long listed for four British Independent Film Awards and will be distributed in cinemas in the UK and U.S. in 2025 and on Mubi. The editor, whose career in the cutting room dates back to the early 80s (his second credit is Empire of the Sun, followed by Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade), is best known in the industry for his work on the likes of Notting Hill, About a Boy and Love Actually, helping splice practically back-to-back hits for Working Title and make Hugh Grant the 1990s poster boy for foppishly charming Brits.

Banijay UK is investing in Happy Valley star James Norton’s Rabbit Track Pictures, we can reveal jointly with the Times Of London.

London based TV & film production company Rabbit Track was co-founded by film, TV and stage actor Norton and scripted executive Kitty Kaletsky. Deal terms were not disclosed.

The company launched in 2019 and has scripted projects green-lit for the BBC and Itvx and a growing development slate. Their first film, Rogue Agent, the Netflix thriller starring Norton, was released in 2022.

According to the companies, the investment, which comes via Banijay’s £50M UK Growth Fund, will allow Rabbit Track to “build its team and accelerate growth”, and it includes a first look with distributor Banijay Rights.

The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey has been cast in the second season of BBC prison drama Time alongside Jodie Whittaker, Tamara Lawrance and Siobhan Finneran.

Jimmy McGovern’s show, which featured Stephen Graham and Sean Bean as leads in its heart-wrenching first season, will move on to a women’s prison where Ramsey will play Kelsey, thrown together to face an unfamiliar world with Orla (Whittaker) and Abi (Lawrance).

Ellie Bamber is set to star as Kate Moss in a new film detailing her infamous relationship with Lucian Freud.

The “Serpent” and “Nocturnal Animals” star will play the British supermodel in “Moss & Freud,” which will cover a period in the early 2000s when she sat for Freud, who will be played by Derek Jacobi (“Murder on the Orient Express”).

The project will be directed by James Lucas, who is known for his Oscar-winning live action short film “The Phone Call,” starring Sally Hawkins and Jim Broadbent. Moss will executive produce with the support of the Lucian Freud Archive.

Fremantle has sold out most major territories worldwide on the Martin Freeman-led BBC One smash hit “The Responder,” consolidating the acclaimed crime drama’s contention, even at this early stage, to become one of Europe’s top series of 2022.

Banner deals take in France (Canal Plus), Italy (Disney Plus), Germany’s (Magenta TV). Spain (Movistar Plus) and Russia & Cis (Viasat), all leading pay/SVOD operators.

The sales come as Fremantle, thanks to “The Responder,” “Cross Fire,” “Suspect” and “This Sceptred Isle” looks set to see an unprecedented four U.K. premium dramas finishing production in 2022. Led by “Fellow Travelers,” its English-language sales lineup for 2023 looks equally bullish.

In all, in 2022 Fremantle’s U.K. drama output will more than double compared to the previous year, said Jens Richter, at Fremantle’s global sales arm, Fremantle International, which he oversees as CEO.

That, however, is part of larger global surge.

Streamer BritBox has extended its production partnership with the Agatha Christie estate.

BritBox, which is jointly owned by BBC Studios and ITV, has signed on for three more productions with Agatha Christie Limited and Mamoth Screen.

The trio have already collaborated on an adaptation of Christie’s novel “Why Didn’t They Ask Evans?” (pictured above) starring Emma Thompson and Will Poulter, which will premiere on the platform in April.

BritBox have not yet confirmed which of the author’s prolific output they will be working on next but they have said each of the three adaptations will be “steered by a distinctive voice – a director, a writer or auteur – bringing an entirely new perspective and style to Agatha Christie’s novels.”

Karla-Simone Spence, who starred in Paramount Pictures’ feature Blue Story as well as BBC series Wannabe and Gold Digger, leads the cast as Frannie Langton.

Langton is the young protagonist born into a life of slavery who is fighting to tell her own story.

BBC has unveiled the first image from new police drama “The Responder,” starring Martin Freeman.

Written by ex-police officer Tony Schumacher and made by Dancing Ledge Productions (“The Salisbury Poisonings”), Freeman stars as Chris, a crisis-stricken, morally compromised urgent response officer who is forced to take on a new rookie partner (Adelayo Adedayo).

Together, they realize that survival in a high-pressure, relentless night-time world will depend on them either helping or destroying each other.

The BBC drama, which was unveiled last year as part of a slate from first-time TV writers working with the public broadcaster, is billed as “holding a mirror up” to the extremes of life on the front line of British policing. The gritty police genre is a big hit with local audiences, who lapped up the latest season of BBC’s “Line of Duty,” which pulled in a record-breaking 12.8 million overnight viewers.

Watching “The Trial of Christine Keeler,” it’s clear why the show’s namesake tabloid-fodder scandal would have captured an entire nation’s attention. An affair between a young aspiring model and the UK’s War Secretary became a flashpoint for racial, sexual, and class politics of the day, ripe for manipulating fears and assumptions about Where the Country Was Headed. As a series, “The Trial of Christine Keeler” lays out plenty of the relevant particulars, giving a certain level of context to the headlines that emerged from a series of connected court proceedings. It’s a dramatization (now available on HBO Max after airing on the BBC last year) that doesn’t glean as much as possible from this saga, but it still ends up as a watchable drama about intertwined, doomed fates under public scrutiny.

That writer/creator Amanda Coe puts forward Christine (Sophie Cookson) as the title character is a clear choice.

Anne Heche has sashayed from the Dancing With the Stars dance floor into the All Rise courthouse, with a role on the CBS legal drama.

HBO Max has picked up streaming rights in the U.S. to BBC One drama “The Trial of Christine Keeler.”

The deal marks the latest sale of the six-part drama for Keshet International, which helped to finance the series with its Ki Content Fund and distributed globally. Endeavor Content handled the show in the U.S.

Produced by Ecosse Films and Great Meadow Productions, the drama brings to life one of the most controversial political sex scandals in the U.K. Known as the “Profumo Affair” of the 1960s, it saw the attempted cover-up of an affair between a British minister (Ben Miles) and model Christine Keeler (Sophie Cookson) that threatened to destroy the government.

The show — which premieres on HBO Max on Dec. 9 — recreates London during this period, though the story is told from Keeler’s perspective. BAFTA winner Amanda Coe (“Black Narcissus”) wrote the series, while Andrea Harkin served as director.

Infinite, a sci-fi film from director Antoine Fuqua, made a major change with Mark Wahlberg as its new headliner, replacing Chris Evans. Indeed, while Avengers: Endgame was the expected, well, endgame of Evans’s tenure in the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Captain America (maybe?), the actor happens to have several starring roles on his docket. Consequently, with regards to Infinite, Chris Evans—unlike Cap—didn’t want to “do this all day.”

Mark Wahlberg replaced Chris Evans as the headlining star of Infinite, as Variety reported back in June 2019. Keshet International (Ki) has secured a slew of sales deals for BBC One period drama “The Trial of Christine Keeler,” which recently completed its run last month in the U.K.

An account of the notorious 1960s ‘Profumo Affair,’ the six-part series chronicles the cover-up of an affair between a British Minister (Ben Miles) and model Christine Keeler (Sophie Cookson) which threatened to destroy the government.

Ki sold first broadcast window rights to the drama into Australian premium drama channel BBC First, with Australia’s national broadcaster ABC taking the second window.

BBC First has also nabbed first window rights in Benelux and Africa, with Ki selling second window rights in the Netherlands to Dutch public service broadcaster Npo.

Ki sold first window in Spain to the female-skewing Cosmo TV, and in the U.K., Acorn Media International has snapped up home video rights. Both home video and digital rights...

The Masked Singer made a strong start to life in the UK on Saturday night, but was abandoned by more than a fifth of its audience on its second outing for commercial broadcaster ITV.

The celebrity singing contest entertained an audience of 4.3M between 8Pm and 9.30Pm on Sunday night, which was down nearly 22% on its Saturday performance of 5.5M, according to Barb figures supplied by overnights.tv.

Following the success of The Crown and its very own A Very English Scandal, it’s unsurprising that the BBC has chosen to adapt another important chapter of British history.

The Trial of Christine Keeler revisits the Profumo Scandal of 1961; an event which saw the then Minister for War John Profumo embroiled in an extramarital affair with the eponymous Keeler.

The scandal was seen as a watershed moment for politics and went on to contribute to the downfall of Harold MacMillan’s Conservative government.

As producer Rebecca Ferguson notes, the scandal showed that “men in established positions were suddenly human beings, fallible and prone to bad behaviour.”

However, a key part of the new six-part drama is a change of emphasis. Whereas previous versions of the story have concentrated on Profumo, or the political machinations, this story grounds itself much more in the human impact of the events.

Exclusive: John Douglas Thompson (Broadway’s King Lear), Patrick Murney (Seven Seconds), Ben Miles (The Romanoffs), James McArdle (Mary Queen of Scots), Sosie Bacon (Here and Now), Joe Tippett (Rise) and Neal Huff (To Kill a Mockingbord) have joined the cast of Mare of Easttown, HBO’s limited series starring Kate Winslet. Hailing from Brad Inglesby and Paul Lee’s wiip, the series is a co-production of HBO and wiip. Gavin O’Connor directs and executive produces.

Written and executive produced by Inglesby, who also serves as showrunner, Mare Of Easttown stars Winslet as a small-town Pennsylvania detective whose life crumbles around her as she investigates a local murder. The cast also includes Julianne Nicholson, Jean Smart, Angourie Rice, Evan Peters, Cailee Spaeny and David Denman.

Thompson will play Chief Carter, Mare’s (Winslet) boss at the Easttown Police Department, whose stoicism belies a deep compassion for the people he’s been charged with protecting.

James Norton and Sophie Cookson have lifted the lid on their roles in BBC drama The Trial of Christine Keeler – saying that it turns up the volume on Keeler’s role in the Profumo scandal in light off the #metoo movement.

The stars were joined on a Deadline-moderated panel at Mipcom by writer Amanda Coe and The Crown’s Ben Miles to discuss the six-part series, which is being sold by Keshet International.

Kingsman: The Secret Service star Cookson plays Keeler, the 19-year old woman who was involved in a relationship with John Profumo, while Norton stars as Stephen Ward, the society osteopath who drew her into the in-crowd.

Exclusive: Alessandro Nivola and Gemma Arterton head a killer cast for a three-part adaptation of the 1939 classic Rumer Godden literary novel Black Narcissus, a tale of sexual repression and forbidden love. BAFTA-winning writer Amanda Coe wrote the three hourlong episodes and renowned Dp Charlotte Bruus Christensen makes her directing debut.

BBC One is producing with DNA TV and FX Productions. The exec producers are Andrew Macdonald, Allon Reich and Coe for DNA TV and FX Productions and Lucy Richer for the BBC. Filming starts in October in Jomsom, Nepal and Pinewood Studios, UK.

Black Narcissus was previously adapted for screen in 1947 by Powell and Pressburger and subsequently won two Oscars for Cinematography (Jack Cardiff) and Art Direction (Alfred Junge).

Despite the looming specter of Brexit, the UK production business continues to drive strong numbers — even if preliminary statistics released by the BFI today do not all constitute new records. Film and high-end TV production spend combined exceeded £3.1B ($4B) in 2018. Television saw the bigger increases, repping £1.173B ($1.53B) of the total for a 4% hike on 2017 and the highest level since the tax credit was introduced in 2013. Film production spend was £1.924B ($2.51B), the 2nd best score on record. The figures were released today as part of the BFI’s annual statistics report which also covers box office.

Keshet Intl. CEO Alon Shtruzman discussed the company’s $65 million scripted content fund, launched earlier this year, at a keynote speech in Rome on Thursday, as the company looks to ramp up its production of films and high-end dramas that could be the next “Homeland.”

Kingsman: The Secret Service star Sophie Cookson is set to star as controversial party girl Christine Keeler in a BBC drama about the Profumo Affair.

Cookson, who also starred in the Kingsman follow-up The Golden Circle and Netflix drama Gypsy, leads the line-up of The Trial of Christine Keeler, produced by Fleming producer Ecosse Films for BBC One.

Production on the six-part drama, which is expected to air in 2019, starts in October.

The show takes a look at the infamous Profumo Affair, which involved 19-year old Christine Keeler, who was involved in a relationship with John Profumo, the Secretary of State for War in Harold Macmillan’s Conservative government. He initially lied to the House of Commons about the affair and the incident became a global scandal after it emerged that Keeler may have simultaneously been involved with a Soviet naval attaché.
