The fourth Descendants movie is coming this summer to Disney+ and Disney Channel. Called Descendants: The Rise of Red, the sequel comes five years after the release of Descendants 3 in 2019.

In the new installment of the franchise, Descendants: The Rise of Red, will premiere on Disney+ on July 12. The film will then air on Disney Channel on Aug. 9. While introducing new characters along with some returning favorites from the previous movies, The Rise of Red also brings back Brandy and Paolo Montalban as Cinderella and King Charming, respectively, with the two reprising their roles from the 1997 adaptation of Cinderella. Cbr can exclusively unveil a first look at Tristan Padil as Teen Prince Charming, shown in a flashback sequence recalling how he first met Cinderella. A new image has also been unveiled of Montalban as the present-day King Charming.

A new villain is about to appear in the Descendants universe, and if the heroes of this world aren't careful, she will become too powerful before they can do anything about it. Disney+ has released a new poster for Descendants: The Rise of Red, the upcoming sequel that will feature Kylie Cantrall as the titular character. An adventure taking place in this universe hasn't been released since 2019, when Descendants 3 told the story of how Mal (Dove Cameron) decided not to become the queen of Auradon unless she could help everyone around her.

Descendants fans finally have a release date for the latest film in the franchise. Disney has released a new teaser for ‘Descendants: The Rise of Red’ showcasing the titular character. This film will be years after the others, so most of the cast is new.

Descendants fans, get ready: Brandy has officially stepped back into her glass slippers! The singer and actor is reprising her role as Cinderella in a new Descendants movie, originally titled "The Pocketwatch" but now known as "Descendants: The Rise of Red," and we finally have a first look at her regal character back in action. On March 22, 2023, Disney+ confirmed that Brandy will reunite with her now-King Charming, aka Prince Christopher (Paolo Montalban) from the 1997 "Cinderella," in the next film installment, which still doesn't have a set release date.

Kisilevsky, who becomes EVP, Live Action Family, Kids and Young Adult at the Candle Media-backed company, joins from Disney, where she has been SVP, Original Movies, Disney Branded Television.

She previously worked with the Your Place Or Mine star at Type A Films, which was one of Witherspoon’s production precursors to Hello Sunshine.

Reporting to Hello Sunshine CEO Sarah Harden, Kisilevsky will be in charge of building out the division and developing and producing family, kids and young adult live-action movies and series.

Disney has greenlit “The Pocketwatch,” a new musical to take viewers back to Auradon and Isle of the Lost. The film will also bring the audience through the rabbit hole to the hostile unincorporated territory of Wonderland; a magical, mysterious place made famous in “Alice in Wonderland.”

Of course, it wouldn’t be a “Descendants” movie without the introduction of another iconic character’s progeny.

A day after Nancy Kanter’s last day at Disney, Netflix announced an overall deal with the former EVP, Content and Creative Strategy for Disney Channels Worldwide, who launched and built Disney’s preschool TV channel Disney Junior.

Under the pact, Kanter will develop and produce animated and live-action projects — both feature films and series — targeted at kids and families through her company Available Light Productions.

For Netflix, brining on board Kanter, one of the most respected executives in the kids and family space, is part of a big push in family entertainment as the streamer is taking on the leading SVOD player in the space, Disney+.

Just over 63 years ago, Theodor Geisel — better known by his pen name, Dr. Seuss — wrote and illustrated a holiday-themed children’s book meant to teach kiddos that Christmas isn’t about spending outrageous sums of money to build a tree-toppling pile of presents; it’s about family, togetherness, and celebrating rebirth at the end of a long year.

So, naturally, “The Grinch” has been adapted a billion times over by every money-hungry corporation out there. It only took nine years for a TV version to hit screens, and that’s before the terrifying Jim Carrey/Ron Howard movie started dominating cable channels every December, or Illumination’s 2018 animated movie sat perched and waiting in Netflix queues for over a year, only to disappear December 4.

But fear not Seuss fans. “The Grinch Musical!” is here to offer two hours of fresh holiday entertainment thanks to NBC’s 2020 adaptation of the 2007 stage production.

NBC marked Thanksgiving by rolling out the first teaser for its upcoming “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical.” Unfortunately, the very brief look at star Matt Morrison’s very campy version of the title character pretty much resulted in social media fingers nervously drumming and people vowing to stop Christmas from coming.

What we’re saying is, the teaser made a lot of people’s hearts shrink two sizes smaller.

Announced two weeks ago, NBC’s two-hour version of “Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical!” will star Morrison (“Glee”) as The Grinch with Denis O’Hare as the adult version of his dog, Max, Booboo Stewart (“Descendants 3”) as young Max, and newcomer Amelia Minto (“The Lost Girls”) as Cindy-Lou Who. Unlike a lot of previous TV musicals, this one won’t be live (we assume because of Covid), and instead will be filmed at the Troubadour Theatre in London at some point before its Dec.

The “Glee” alum will play the curmudgeonly Grinch himself for the televised musical adaptation of “How the Grinch Stole Christmas,” which will air Dec. 9 at 8 p.m.

Per NBC, “Dr. Seuss’ famous book tells the story of a reclusive Grinch who plotted from his cave atop snowy Mt. Crumpit to steal Christmas from the Whos in Who-ville. Then on Christmas Eve, disguised as Santa Claus and enlisting his loyal dog Max as a reindeer, the Grinch traveled to Who-ville to scoop up the Whos’ gifts and decorations. Much to his surprise on Christmas morning, the Whos were unfazed and celebrated the holiday with a heartwarming display of joy and love.”

NBC is inviting the Grinch to share its holiday season: The network will air a two-hour production of Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical! on December 9. Staged at the Troubadour Theatre in London, the musical production will star Glee‘s Matthew Morrison as the small-hearted Grinch and Denis O’Hare as his hapless mutt Max played on Broadway during the holiday seasons of 2006 and 2007.

In the NBC version, the Cindy-Lou Who character will be played by young newcomer Amelia Minto. Producers have also assembled an ensemble of musical theater actors from London’s West End to complete the cast.

“Dr. Seuss is an indelible part of all of our lives and we’re thrilled to bring a stage production of The Grinch Musical! to our audience,” said Doug Vaughan, Executive Vice President, Special Programs, NBC Entertainment. “This is a perfect addition to our annual holiday program traditions and a telecast the entire family will enjoy.”

The staging is by director Max Webster, and Julia Knowles directs for television. Additional script material is by Simon Nye, with sets by designer Peter Bingemann.

Previous musicals staged in recent years by NBC The Sound of Music, Peter Pan, The Wiz, Hairspray and Jesus Christ Superstar Live in Concert.

Though Morrison became a household name on Glee, he has an extensive stage background, including roles in Broadway’s Footloose, Hairspray, and The Light in the Piazza. More recently, Morrison starred as J.M. Barrie in the Broadway musical Finding Neverland. Additional TV credits include The Good Wife, Grey’s Anatomy and American Horror Story: 1984. Morrison is represented by Podwall Entertainment, ICM Partners and Gang, Tyre, Ramer, Brown & Passman

Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch Musical is presented in association with Dr. Seuss Enterprises and Running Subway, produced by Penny Lane Entertainment Television and Simon Friend Entertainment. Lee Connolly, Simon Friend, Joshua Rosenblum and James Sanna serve as executive producers. Morrison also serves as a producer on the telecast.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards finally aired on Wednesday after a six month delay, with three-time host Kelly Clarkson returning to preside over NBC’s semi-virtual ceremony.

Post Malone was the night’s big winner, taking home nine awards for his album “Hollywood’s Bleeding,” including Top Artist and Top Male Artist.

Other winners included Billie Eilish, for Top Female Artist; Lizzo, for Top Song Sales Artist; Luke Combs, for Top Country Artist; and K-Pop sensation BTS, for the fan-voted Top Social Artist award. Rapper Killer Mike was awarded the first ever Change Maker award for his social activism, while country star Garth Brooks was honored with the 2020 Billboard Icon Award.

Performers for the show included host Kelly Clarkson (joined by Pentatonix and Sheila E. for the opening number), Alicia Keys, Bad Bunny, Brandy feat. Ty Dolla $ign, BTS, Doja Cat, En Vogue, John Legend and Demi Lovato.

The made-for-tv movie was a programming staple for the broadcast networks in the 1970s and 1980s. While it fell out of favor in the 1990s and was even dropped as an Emmy Awards category for three years beginning in 2011, it has been on an upswing as of late. This year, 28 telefilms are in contention for the five nominations that will be revealed on July 28; last year only 21 TV movies were submitted.

All 22,000 plus voting members of the TV academy have until July 13 to cast their 2020 Emmy Awards nominations ballots for their favorite TV movies. In the past, voters were limited in the number of telefilms that they could put forth. In 2017 that cap (which was usually 10 per category) was lifted. And, as opposed to the Oscars, voters for the Emmys do not rank their choices and nominees are determined by a simple tally.

Disney’s “Descendants” is the franchise phenomenon that just won’t stop — look no further than the climbing YouTube numbers for its songs and performers.

Its latest and third installment centers around the teenage children of famous villains who return to the Isle of the Lost looking to recruit new kids to join them at their school, Auradon Prep. But things go haywire when Hades, the god of the underworld, escapes and the citizens panic — all told through song and dance.

When “Descendants 3” screened last summer, the movie received a delightfully wicked reception, with over 8.4 million viewers tuning in on the Disney Channel. The soundtrack went on to great success as well, and, so far, the songs from the third installment logged over 111 million views in just the first five days.

Disney is shutting down three TV channels aimed at content for kids in the U.K. Disney Channel, Disney Xd and Disney Junior are all set to cease operations in the fall. This comes not long after the launch of Disney+, the company's streaming service, which will now be home to the content that used to live on those channels.

The move will happen on October 1, with Disney+ becoming the exclusive home for content from those channels in the U.K. The decision comes after Disney reportedly failed to reach a new agreement with TV providers Sky and Virgin Media. The Walt Disney Company had this to say about it in a statement.
