About two years ago, we heard that Emeraude Toubia, who is best known for playing the character Isabelle Lightwood in 55 episodes of the Freeform TV series Shadowhunters (a.k.a. Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments), had signed on to star in the “high concept” horror film Rosario, which would mark the feature directorial debut of Felipe Vargas. You can check it out in the embed above.
Scripted by Alan Trezza (We Summon the Darkness), Rosario sees Toubia taking on the role of the title character, Wall Street stockbroker, Rosario Fuentes, who returns to her grandmother’s apartment after her sudden death. Alexandra Daddario has been a part of the film industry for many years now. While many have heard of her after she starred in Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief, she has been in several notable works since then.

While some of her works have done quite well in the eyes of the public, some have been outright horrendous for her career, causing her to gain somewhat of a reputation as a bad actress. Recently, Daddario spoke about this and addressed the rumors about her being untalented, calling them outrageous and bringing up her Emmy nomination.
On this note, here are three of her films that she should not have starred in and three that help showcase her talent.
Good: The White Lotus
One cannot praise Alexandra Daddario’s talents as an actress without talking about The White Lotus.

Taylor Swift's sibling Austin Swift is a rising star in the entertainment industry, as both an actor and producer. Austin Swift has appeared in several films and TV shows, including "I.T." and "Live By Night," and has worked with notable actors like Pierce Brosnan and Ben Affleck. In addition to acting, Austin Swift has also worked as a producer, and he received an Academy of Country Music Awards nomination for his work on Taylor Swift's "I Bet You Think About Me" music video.
While she may be one of the most famous celebrities in the world, Taylor Swift's sibling Austin Swift is a rising star in the entertainment industry himself, and the siblings are clearly supportive of each other. In 2023, Taylor Swift launched The Eras Tour, a tour that includes a three-hour-long setlist covering her entire discography. Demand for the sold-out tour is notoriously high even with the singer-songwriter adding more dates.

Exclusive: Paramount’s genre division Paramount Players has tapped Night Teeth and I See You filmmaker Adam Randall to direct the horror pic Curfew.
The former Blood List entry follows a rebellious teenage girl who is sent to stay with her grandmother in a sleepy town whose quirky traditions include a curfew banning anyone from going out at night. When the girl ventures out after dark she discovers the murky truth behind the town’s mysterious history.
Randall told us: “This is a fun monster movie that harks back to Amblin movies of yore. There is an intriguing conflict between the teenage girl and the older generations but it also has the thrills and action of a monster movie. It’s a great script.”
Script comes from Isa Mazzei (Cam). Jaki Bradley and Kevin Armento did previous revisions. Dick Grunert wrote the original spec that made it onto the 2017 Blood List.

With “Malignant,” James Wan reminds us that no matter how many billion-dollar mainstream movies he directs (two and counting), he’s still a super kooky horror auteur whose biggest influences are Ozploitation, Italian supernatural thrillers and good old-fashioned scuzz cinema.
Hot off the superhero blockbuster “Aquaman,” it seems as though Wan is eager to let off some steam. “Malignant” boasts exciting visual effects, but it’s a small-scale shocker seeking only an audience of envelope-pushing scary movie buffs. That gives the filmmaker the freedom to make the sort of ultraviolent thriller Lucio Fulci and Frank Henenlotter might have co-directed in the early 1980s if they had carte blanche and a blank check.
“Malignant” stars Annabelle Wallis (“Annabelle”) as Madison, a woman with visions of a bizarre serial killer named Gabriel with a penchant for slaughtering retired doctors. Madison wasn’t in a good place to begin with, having recently endured...

If you ever wondered what would happen if Walt Disney was also the Jigsaw Killer, then a) you are a very interesting person, and b) these “Escape Room” movies were made for you.
“Escape Room: Tournament of Champions,” the second film in Adam Robitel’s PG-13 horror franchise, solidifies the series’ mission statement to show off a deadly and insidiously complicated amusement park, where the theming is heavy-handed and all the attractions will kill you if you don’t interact with them exactly the way the designers intended.
These aren’t movies about protagonists undergoing a meaningful transformation. They are extended YouTube walkthroughs of the coolest places you’d never, ever want to go.
The original “Escape Room” saw a group of people drawn into a game constructed by the Minos Corporation. Each room they encountered had a different visual theme, and only by solving tricky clues could the heroes escape with their lives.

Saban Films has revealed a new trailer for Mortal. This is the latest from filmmaker Andre Ovredal, who is coming fresh off of last year's hit adaptation of Scary Stories To Tell In The Dark. With a cast led by Nat Wolff, it focuses on a young man who discovers he has God-like powers and is based on ancient Norwegian mythology. As we can see from the trailer, It looks to be a dark take on the whole superhuman origin tale.
The trailer opens with Nat Wolff recounting an altercation he had recently, which came with grave consequences. We then come to find that he has fiery powers that are equal parts dangerous and mysterious. Naturally, this leads to issues as government agencies want to get him under control before more damage can be done. Defining a successful movie release has been a fraught task lately due to the coronavirus pandemic, as premium theatrical films shift to digital debuts and massive blockbusters get kicked down the calendar.
Thanks to a few transparent scoreboards like the iTunes store, however, the industry can see plainly when a hit is a hit. Last weekend, the Saban Films release “The Silencing” made a lot of noise as the top rental in the country, at the attractive price point of $6.99. The film has amassed roughly $5 million in PVOD sales, insiders familiar with the tally told Variety.

A movie constantly finding itself among the Top 10 most-watched titles on Netflix is by no means an indicator of quality, with the list of features that have proved hugely popular with subscribers over the last few months running the entire spectrum from critically acclaimed favorites to arguably the worst of the year.
Extraction, Da 5 Bloods, The Old Guard and most recently, Project Power all found big success after becoming available on Netflix, and they fully deserved their spots after proving to be gripping and massively entertaining entries in their respective genres. However, The Last Days of American Crime and steamy Polish thriller 365 Dni also found themselves among the most popular movies that Netflix had to offer, and yet both of them hold the rare and unwanted distinction of a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Netflix provides an opportunity for many overlooked films to get a new lease on life, from comedies to action movies. The latest picture to get the Netflix bump is We Summon the Darkness, which since being added to the platform a few days ago is already number 6 on the Top 10 most-watched films list. Why, then, is this title doing so well with subscribers?
Marc Meyers is behind the camera on We Summon the Darkness and his film is set at the tail-end of the 1980s heavy metal craze, focusing on Alexis, Beverley and Val, who meet up with some guys on the way to a concert. Shortly after, the female trio invite them back to a remote country house where things rapidly get out of control.

With theaters still mostly closed due to Covid-19 and normal business not likely to resume anytime soon, Netflix‘s position within the movie industry has become much more important. This marks a big shift, as multiplex chains make top-down decisions on what films to screen, whereas Netflix can put almost anything up and watch how their audience responds to it. This has helped some smaller titles gain way more attention than they ordinarily would, with an excellent example being tense indie horror What Keeps You Alive.
The Canadian movie premiered at SXSW in March 2018 and was released on VOD the following August. We named it as one of the best horror pics of 2018, but it was quickly lost in a deluge of other content and was largely forgotten. Now, however, it’s zipping up the charts on Netflix, making its way onto the Top 10 most-watched films list, where the unknowable...

For the first time in a while, Netflix is adding no new titles today, so let’s instead take the opportunity to recap what’s gone up on the streaming site over the past week, from Saturday, August 1st to Saturday, August 8th. As that encompasses the first day of the month, there was a huge amount of fresh content added to Netflix’s library over this period. To be exact, there were 49 movies and 24 TV shows.
On the film side of things, this haul includes many an acclaimed or cult favorite flick from across the decades in all kinds of genres. The highlight is probably the entire Jurassic Park trilogy, which has proved popular with Netflix users as the first two entries have been hanging around the top 10 most-watched movies list almost ever since arriving. 80s classic fantasy flick The NeverEnding Story and its sequel were added on the 1st as well,...

Netflix added two new films today. The first is a Christian Bale-starring period piece set in the Ottoman Empire titled The Promise, the other an Alexandra Daddario-led horror movie called We Summon the Darkness. And here’s what you need to know in case you want to check either one, or even both of them out at some point this weekend.
The Promise first released in 2016. It’s directed by Terry George and based on a script he wrote alongside Robin Swicord. Aside from Bale, who plays a supporting character, the film also stars Oscar Isaac, Charlotte Le Bon, Daniel Giménez Cacho, Shohreh Aghdashloo and Marwan Kenzari.
As mentioned, the movie is set during the final days of the Ottoman Empire. Location aside, it’s centered on a love triangle between a talented medical student, a famous American journalist and a young and beautiful woman. Where fans of...

The Netflix conveyer belt of content seems inexhaustible and keeping up with everything new on just this one streaming network is practically impossible. However, there’s a new movie being added today that’s certainly worth your time. I’m talking We Summon the Darkness, a seriously cool recent horror film that may well have passed you by.
Directed by My Friend Dahmer‘s Marc Meyers, We Summon the Darkness plunges deep into the world of late 1980s heavy metal. We follow Alexis, Val and Beverley, three young women on their way to a metal festival. Things take an ominous turn, however, when they encounter three guys and invite them back to their secluded country home for fun sexy times. From there? Well, I don’t want to spoil it, but it might not take the path you assume it will.
It sounds kinda trashy, but Meyers’ direction elevates it...
