Sunny Suwanmethanont, Nichkhun, and Urassaya Sperbund in Brother of the Year (2018)
Ever since he was a kid, Chut (Sunny Suwanmethanont) always thought that the baby in his mum's belly was going to be a brother. Yet, the day she gave birth, he got a sister instead. Chut felt like he had been short-changed. His dreams of playing with robots and playing football with his brother were shattered. Every time he plays with darn Jane (Urassaya Sperbund) she turns into a crybaby. Ever since they were kids until now, Chut and Jane have fought over everything. It's all because Jane acts more like his mother than his sister and Chut likes to make himself a burden instead of being an older brother. Whether it be in studies, sports, looks or personality; Jane is always more perfect. Jane wonders if there are other big brothers out there that are worse to their younger sister just like Chut. The only time Chut acts like an older brother is when someone shows interest in Jane. Chut will bully her admirers into leaving her alone and considers this as pay back.

This is the reason why Jane has to keep her relationship with Moji (Nichkhun Horvejkul), her perfect half-Japanese boyfriend, a secret from Chut. Jane doesn't want her relationship to be destroyed at the hands of Chut, like every other one before. However, love isn't something to be kept a secret, and in the end, Chut finds out about Jane and Moji's secret relationship. It is unlikely that Chut will let this pass. A great brother like Chut will do everything in his power to put a stop to anything that makes his little sister happy!

    Family Drama

Going into this movie, I thought it was strictly a comedy about a brother who was overly protective of his sister. My expectations turned out to be incredibly wrong. It's really a family drama at heart and is relatable to pretty much anyone who has dealt with sibling rivalry. Older brother Chut finds himself constantly in the shadow of his smarter and more ordered younger sister, Jane. The rivalry between them began in their childhood and has continued to pollute their relationship as adults. Jane is beginning a successful career but is quite critical of her brother's disorderly lifestyle. While Chut is successful in his own right, family issues begin to surface when Chut and Jane end up having to work together. To top it all off, Chut doesn't approve of Jane's new boyfriend/colleague.

By this point in the movie, despite his flaws, I was rooting more for Chut and found Jane and her behavior quite grating. The more the movie went on, I felt Chut was completely justified in his behavior towards his sister. For this reason, I felt both characters were becoming completely unlikable. Jane was petty, continuing even to call her brother by a nickname from childhood that he hated and even getting his friends and coworkers to call him by the name. At the same time Chut spiraled downward more and more, further fueling his sister's annoyance. I almost felt like getting up and walking out because I couldn't find a reason to root for either of these characters. However, the movie completely turned itself around in the final act and provided a poignant message that every sibling who has ever dealt with rivalry should hear.

Overall, I don't feel this movie can completely be ruled a comedy or a drama, but the moments of comedy scattered throughout were really funny. If my expectation of what it type of movie it was from the beginning was different, I might have found my experience a bit different. This movie contains a great message, which might hit some viewers close to home, but it takes some patience to get there.

*It is a recommended movie to watch*

"Brother of the Year" is the best romantic comedy movie of 2018, with high expectations for this film personally. But I was secretly worried that it might not be as fun as I thought. But after watching the movie until the end, I can say that I will not be disappointed. Although there may be some flaws at the beginning of the story But it's also an outstanding film in character performance, a huge part of how we in and get lost in the ending that makes us cry unknowingly.

Laugh my tears and ass off!

"Brother of the Year" from 2018 starring Sunny Suwanmetanon, Urassaya Sperbund and Nich Khun Horvejkul is a heartwarming comedy mixed with romance. Its color-ful and rich...and it gives out excellent directing and acting. There is sadly not that many movies today at all that presents the relationship between siblings...the connection you actually never can take away. Its with you until you die. You can lose a friend, you can break up with your boyfriend and you can divorce your husband...but a sibling is for life whether you like it or not. Yaya has wonderful chemistry with everyone she acts with, and her collaboration with Sunny is remarkable, as their characters Jane and Chut are siblings who fight and considers each other rivals, while secretly looks upon each other. Their connection is in that they know each other to the core, and aren't afraid to take off their masks to show the naked pain in having to deny each other the support they want to give due to pride and bitterness.

This movie made me laugh my tears off and laugh my ass off. I loved every minute of it, and i consider Yaya and Sunny the true stars of this movie. Their portrayal as the siblings Jane and Chut has everything you would dream of, and me having a brother i also would like to kill sometimes (kiddin about the killin, but he does drive me mad) i actually could symphatize with Jane. You can also hear Yaya talk japanese many times, and watch her with a big pregnant belly! Go For It Yaya!

    Doesn't know when to stop

This film tells a complicated relationship between a loser brother and a successful sister.

I hoped it would be as funny as the last film "Freelance", but unfortunately it is not. The brother is just far too annoying and unlikable for me to get into the film. The sibling rivalry is not funny either. A lot of the supposed rivalry is more silly than funny. The film doesn't know when to end as well, as it just drags on and on in the end. If it wasn't for the handsome Japanese guy and the beautiful female leads, I would have been very very disappointed by this film.
