While it once seemed improbable, it looks like Coyote vs. Acme may soon be coming to a theater near you!
According to Deadline, Ketchup Entertainment is in advanced negotiations to acquire the animated/live-action hybrid feature from Warner Bros, in a deal that's estimated to be in the $50 million range. The independent distributer-financier previously rescued The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, which is currently playing in theaters.
In recent years, Ketchup has also been behind the releases of Weekend in Taipei, Goodrich, Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Memory, Ferrari, Hypnotic, and Bushwick.
The trade does note that the deal could still fall apart, but things are progressing in the right direction for now. If/when the deal is finalized, expect to see Coyote vs. Acme hit theaters sometime in 2026.

It turns out that’s not all, folks. The “Looney Tunes” live-action hybrid film “Coyote vs. Acme” has finally found a new home — and with a theatrical release. Ketchup Entertainment is set to acquire the Warner Bros. Discovery (Wbd)-axed film, according to reports. IndieWire has reached out to reps at Wbd and Ketchup for confirmation. Wbd had no comment. A source close to the film said the Ketchup deal is indeed in the works.
As Deadline reported on Wednesday, Ketchup Entertainment is negotiating an all-rights acquisition in the $50 million range for “Coyote vs. Acme,” with respect to the film’s reported $70-million budget.
If the deal closes, “Coyote vs. Acme” will also receive a theatrical release, much like the critically acclaimed “The Day the Earth Blew Up.” Originally commissioned for Max, “The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” also landed at Ketchup Entertainment. The film has...

Coyote vs. Acme, the film that ignited social media when Warner Bros. canceled it for a tax write-off, may see the light of day after all. Indie outfit Ketchup Entertainment is eyeing the rights to the film, which stars Will Forte and John Cena opposite an animated Wile E. Coyote.
Ketchup and Warners have been discussing a roughly $50 million deal for some time that would put the project in theaters in 2026, though it’s still unclear if it will close. Warner Bros. declined to comment.
Ketchup has a history putting Looney Tunes movies in theaters. It distributed The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie after Warner Bros. Discovery opted to shop the film rather than release it itself. Released wide last weekend, it has earned $5.5 million globally.
Ketchup has also backed projects such as Hellboy: The Crooked Man, Ben Affleck starrer Hypnotic and Michael Mann’s Ferrari.

Just over a month after The Recruit finally premiered its second season, Netflix has canceled the series. Season two of the spy thriller found CIA Lawyer, Owen Hendricks, pulled into a life-threatening espionage situation in South Korea, only to realize that the bigger threat just might be coming from inside the Agency. According to Deadline, news of The Recruit‘s cancelation broke from the Threads post of Colton Dunn, who played Lester Kitchens, and is a colleague of series star Noah Centineo’s. Netflix would then confirm the cancelation of the show. The Recruit was created by Alexi Hawley and produced by Lionsgate along with Hypnotic. Miramax will go back to school with a new version of “The Faculty,” the 1998 sci-fi thriller that became a box office hit and cult favorite. Robert Rodriguez, who directed the original, will produce the film.
Breakout talent Drew Hancock is writing the remake’s script. Hancock’s debut feature, “Companion,” which he wrote and directed, hits theaters this weekend. It has earned rave reviews. BoulderLight, the production company behind “Barbarian” and Zach Cregger’s upcoming film “Weapons,” is producing the new picture.
The original version of “The Faculty” focused on a group of students who begin to suspect that the off-beat administrators and teachers at their high school are hiding a deadly secret. The following contains spoilers for "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" season 1, episode 4, "Can't Say I Remember No At Attlin."
Neel (voiced by Robert Timothy Smith) on "Star Wars: Skeleton Crew" might look like a cute "Star Wars" mascot character archetype, but the plucky blue alien keeps subverting the odds and is well on his way to establish himself as the series Mvp. In episode 4, titled "Can't Say I Remember No At Attlin" after Sm-33's (voiced by Nick Frost) surprisingly meaningful favorite saying, Neel's courage saves Wim (Ravi Cabot-Conyers), Fern (Ryan Kiera Armstrong), and Kb (Kyriana Kratter) from certain death. Meanwhile, his pacifism and honesty manage to impress future Troik clan chieftain Hayna so thoroughly that his charm may inspire her to become a peaceful ruler -- thus potentially ending the cycle of violence that has plagued At Achrann for who knows how long.
The tough but thoughtful Hayna is deftly played by Hala Finley.

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie, the first-ever fully animated film based on the Looney Tunes characters, which hit U.S. theaters Dec. 13, almost didn’t happen. Several times.
“At least three, four times during the production I was waiting for that phone call [to shut down the movie],” says director Peter Browngardt. “It was a rocky journey.”
That’s putting it mildly. Browngardt was brought on in mid-2021 to produce and direct The Day the Earth Blew Up as his feature debut. Browngardt was a writer on the popular, and critically acclaimed, HBO Max Looney Tunes reboot, a series of new original shorts featuring the classic Tunes characters which seemed to prove there was an audience out there for more Looney. Browngardt and his writing team — some 15 writers and story consultants are credited on the movie — came up with an original idea involving Daffy Duck and Porky Pig uncovering a...

The music documentary Takin’ Care of Business took care of business at the inaugural Round Top Film Festival in Texas.

Mike Flanagan and David Dastmalchian are both prominent figures in the horror world, so it’s somewhat surprising that their first collaboration came not on a horror project, but on Flanagan’s upcoming movie The Life of Chuck – which, despite being a Stephen King adaptation, is a drama. Today, Deadline has announced that Flanagan and Dastmalchian are set to work together again… and this time the project is a horror film. Flanagan will be producing Epilogue, which Dastmalchian will star in alongside Flanagan’s wife and frequent collaborator Kate Siegel. Michael Fimognari, who worked as cinematographer on most of Flanagan’s work and directed episodes of The Midnight Club and The Fall of the House of Usher (not to mention the films To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You and To All the Boys: Always and Forever), will be directing, working from a screenplay by Luke Barnett and Tanner Thomason.

Superhero lovers have long been disappointed that Ben Affleck never got his own Batman movie, but hopefully, the actor's upcoming action sequel can make up for this loss. Since he first entered the movie scene in the 1990s, Ben Affleck has collected a number of interesting and diverse roles. He has leaned into his Boston roots with Good Will Hunting and The Town. He has dipped his toes into historical dramas like Pearl Harbor and The Last Duel. However, what are arguably Affleck's most notable movies are his action and superhero projects.

For the horror heads among us, perusing a streamer's genre page can be a goldmine of camp opportunities or disturbing folk horror to keep us up at night, but it can also be home to some of the most tedious stories put to film. Whether it's an ill-advised continuation of a franchise or an adaptation in the wrong hands, even the mighty Netflix isn't immune to acquiring, producing, and/or distributing some stinkers. In fact, they tend to excel at it.

Most celebrity gossip fans were not surprised when Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck this week. However, the news that the couple had not signed a prenup came as a bit of a shock.
After all, these days, even middle class couples are playing it safe and protecting their assets before they exchange vows.
In the case of couples who might have to work out yacht custody in the event of a split, we just assume prenups are just a matter of course.

But while many anticipated this falling out, the real shocker of the situation is that there is potentially no prenuptial agreement between the two stars.

In Lopez’s divorce filings from Affleck, there were no mentions of any prenuptial agreement, which would mean their earnings in the last two years would be classified as community property.

After getting to see Michael Keaton reprise his role as Beetlejuice later this year, the Oscar nominee will be shifting to something much harder than trying to come back from the afterlife: parenthood.
Keaton stars alongside Mila Kunis in “Goodrich,” a heartwarming dramedy written and directed by Hallie Meyers-Shyer (“Home Again”) in which Keaton needs to learn to be a father to two different sets of kids at very different ages.
According to the synopsis, Keaton plays Andy Goodrich, “whose life is upended when his wife and mother of their nine-year-old twins enters a 90-day rehab program, leaving him on his own with their young kids. In order to get by, he leans on the help of his adult daughter from his first marriage, Grace (Kunis), ultimately evolving into the father Grace never had.”

Here’s what we know about Longlegs so far. It’s coming in July of 2024, it’s directed by Osgood Perkins (The Blackcoat’s Daughter), and it features Maika Monroe (It Follows) as an FBI agent who discovers a personal connection between her and a serial killer who has ties to the occult. We know that the serial killer is going to be played by none other than Nicolas Cage and that the marketing has been nothing short of cryptic excellence up to this point.
At the very least, we can assume Neon’s upcoming film is going to be a dark, horror-fueled hunt for a serial killer. With that in mind, let’s take a look at five disturbing serial killers-versus-law-enforcement stories to get us even more jacked up for Longlegs.

The sequel to The Accountant, starring Ben Affleck, will feature a bigger role for Jon Bernthal's character, Braxton. The original movie, while successful, had mixed reviews due to clunky storytelling, so The Accountant 2 will hopefully improve on it in several key areas. Ben Affleck's return as Christian Wolff in The Accountant 2 provides hope for a box office win after some recent box office disappointments, like The Flash or Hypnotic.
The belated Ben Affleck sequel The Accountant 2 has just gotten way more exciting thanks to a recent casting update. Affleck had an enviable run of hits during the 2010s, both as a director and actor. He starred in and helmed both 2010's The Town and Argo, with the latter winning Best Picture at the Academy Awards. During this period, he received praise for his performance in David Fincher's Gone Girl and was cast as Batman in the Dceu.

The “Suits” spinoff, “Suits: LA” has landed a pilot order at NBCUniversal. Production is scheduled to start in late March in Vancouver.

Ben Affleck's Batman never received a solo movie in the Dceu, despite his popularity and successful portrayal of the character. Affleck's movies struggled at the box office after Justice League, indicating a lack of audience engagement. The canceled Batman movie could have rectified the Dceu's shortcomings and offered a deeper exploration of the character's depth and world.
The underwhelming performance of several Ben Affleck movies has cemented the DC Universe's lost Batman film as an even greater missed opportunity. Ben Affleck played the iconic superhero, Batman, in several movies throughout the Dceu's timeline, beginning with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Despite his popularity, Affleck's Batman never received a solo movie, with the plans for his solo film instead leading to The Batman starring Robert Pattinson.
Ben Affleck's Batman proved to be one of the most successful elements of the Dceu, which is appropriate considering Affleck's praiseworthy legacy in Hollywood.

The release calendar for new movies over the next couple of weeks could best be described using an image of a tumbleweed lazily making its way across a desolate road. January has always been known as a dump month for Hollywood but this year is particularly bad as so many movies were pushed to later this year (or into 2025) due to the strikes last year. But it's not as though we have nothing coming down the pipeline. To that end, Bleecker Street is bringing an original sci-fi thriller in the form of "I.S.S." to a theater near you next weekend. Can it defy the odds and become a relatively rare original sci-fi hit?
As it stands, the film figures to have a muted debut. Box Office Pro currently has director Gabriela Cowperthwaite's latest taking in anywhere between $2 and $7 million on opening weekend. That's a pretty wide range but even...

The Mother was the most-viewed movie on Netflix between January and June 2023, with 249.9 million hours viewed. The movie ranked 14th overall in terms of viewership on the platform during that time. It surpassed other popular Netflix original titles during that timeframe, including Extraction 2 and Luther: The Fallen Sun.
The Mother has proven to be an enormous hit for Netflix. The action movie, which was helmed by Mulan (2020) director Niki Caro, starred Jennifer Lopez in the title role as an assassin fighting to protect her daughter, who was placed with a foster family when she went into hiding. The ensemble cast of the project included Joseph Fiennes, Lucy Paez, Omari Hardwick, Paul Raci, and Gael García Bernal.

As T.E. Lawrence exclaims in "Lawrence of Arabia": "Big things have small beginnings." That axiom holds generally true of most things in life, of course, yet it curiously applies to a great number of films released in 2023.
Over the last decade and change, we've been privy to many "big things" in American cinema; such trends as the rise of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and its brethren have ensured that world-ending stakes (or larger) became the order of the day on screen, and such stakes were allowed to rise given their films' not-so-humble beginnings (for example: Tony Stark in "Iron Man" begins as a billionaire playboy military weapons manufacturer).
While there has never been a complete end to a more modest style of storytelling focused on average, everyday characters, the prevalence of the superhero film and the need for Hollywood to get butts in seats as screens dwindle meant that...

It has been a banner year at the box office. The recovery in the aftermath of the pandemic has been slower than many in the industry were hoping for, but the good news is that the box office, overall, is up in 2023 compared to 2022. Audiences are proving that they are more than willing to return to theaters when properly motivated to do so. What we learned this year is that what worked in the past isn't going to work in the future. From sequels that seemingly nobody asked for and even superhero movies, the tastes of the moviegoing public appear to be changing. For the first time in decades, the three biggest movies of the year — "Barbie," "Oppenheimer," and "The Super Mario Bros. Movie" — are not sequels. That says an awful lot.
No year, not even the best year in cinematic history, is devoid of misfires. It's just the cost of doing business.

Jeff Fahey expresses interest in returning for Alita: Battle Angel 2, hoping to work with director Robert Rodriguez again. Fahey's character, McTeague, could expand on the bounty hunter world and explore the dynamic with Koyomi in the potential sequel. Fahey's return could pay tribute to Rodriguez's long-time fans and potentially open the door for other past collaborators to appear in the sequel.
With the creative team behind the original movie confirming talks are still ongoing, Jeff Fahey has an optimistic update for Alita: Battle Angel 2. Fahey starred in the 2019 adaptation of the manga of the same name as McTeague, a Hunter-Warrior who appears in a single scene in which he aids Rosa Salazar's eponymous heroine against the criminal cyborg Grewishka. Though the movie was only seen as a modest box office and critical success, director Robert Rodriguez and co-writer/producer James Cameron have remained devoted to making a sequel happen,...

It’s the final month of the year, which means much of our attention will be turned to sharing various best-of-2023 rundowns throughout December. The month also brings many of the year’s most noteworthy films, which we’ve rounded up before––some of which will be opening in a more limited capacity and expanding next month.
We should also note some top November picks like The Boy and the Heron and May December are finally getting in front of wider audiences, with the former getting a wide release on December 8 and the latter arriving on Netflix this Friday. For this round-up we’re also not including films getting limited one-week-only runs this month, such as Noora Niasari’s Shayda on December 1 and Ava DuVernay’s Origin and Alice Rohrwacher’s La Chimera on December 8.

Every year there’s at least one film that premieres at the fall festival circuit without distribution and then does a last-minute jump into the impending awards season. 2023’s major entry in this category is Michel Franco’s drama Memory, starring Jessica Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard, which premiered at Venice and TIFF. It was subsequently picked up by Ketchup Entertainment, who previously released the Ben Affleck-led Hypnotic this past summer, and ahead of a December 22 release, the first trailer has arrived.
David Katz said in his review, “Memory hands Chastain and Peter Sarsgaard (deserved winner of the Venice competition’s acting prize) gifts of roles, in a love story whose exact contours it’s tempting to keep concealed. Franco definitely operates with the element of surprise, having tricked viewers sitting down to (for instance) Sundown of his attractive leads Tim Roth and Charlotte Gainsbourg’s exact relationship.
