Beginning in the 1980s, the Macross anime franchise is one of the most iconic and influential mecha properties, right alongside the likes of Gundam. Long kept out of the West in the streaming era, many entries in the franchise are finally heading overseas in early 2025.
A new Hulu programming listing will see several Macross shows added to the streaming platform's lineup in the coming days. These include the concert compilation of videos tied to the first series, as well as the modern classic Macross Frontier. This finally ends the mecha anime's absence from the West, putting it on the same streaming service that also hosts several shows from a "rival" property.

Captain Liam Shaw [Todd Stashwick] went from being a disliked captain who opposed Admiral Picard [Patrick Stewart] and Captain Riker [Jonathan Frakes] at every move and refused to acknowledge Seven of Nine {Jeri Ryan} by her preferred name. He was sarcastic and cold and didn't endear himself to any fans...at first. Over the course of the brief season of Star Trek: Picard, Shaw was redeemed and even handed over the reins of the Titan to Seven of Nine and recommended her to be promoted to captain. His redemption arc was well-played in so few episodes. Unfortunately, Captain Shaw was killed before the season ended, and while Terry Matalas and Stashwick have discussed ways to bring the captain back, it looks like it won't happen unless Star Trek: Legacy gets greenlit.
But there are other ways the franchise could reintroduce this incredible character even without Legacy. Holograms never go out of style on Star Trek,...

Maika Monroe has earned genre icon status with her roles in thrillers and horror movies like Longlegs, God Is a Bullet, Watcher, Flashback, Villains, Tau, Bad Blood, Flying Monkeys, It Follows, and The Guest. When she ventures into dark territory, she often plays the heroine – but she’ll be shifting into villain mode for the remake of the 1992 psychological thriller The Hand That Rocks the Cradle (watch it Here). The remake is coming our way from director Michelle Garza Cervera (Huesera: The Bone Woman) and screenwriter Micah Bloomberg, whose credits include Sanctuary and Homecoming.
Directed by Curtis Hanson from a screenplay written by Amanda Silver, the original The Hand That Rocks the Cradle has the following synopsis: When she was assaulted by her doctor, Claire Bartel reported him to the police, and rather than go to prison for his crime, he killed himself. "Lost" fans could spend hours talking about the best and worst episodes of the groundbreaking show, and for good reason. Across its six seasons, the ABC sci-fi series saw some incredible highs and a few frustrating lows. While the epic show's series finale is commonly cited as one of its most polarizing episodes, much of the hate directed at it still seems to come from a place of misunderstanding rather than legitimate criticism. Plenty of fans, including former /Film writer-editor Hoai-Tran Bui, have successfully argued for the merits of "The End," a big-hearted, earnest conclusion that comes down largely on the "faith" side of the show's faith/science debate. It's not perfect, but it's definitely far from bad.
So, if the worst episodes of "Lost" aren't its two-part series finale, what are they? According to viewers who rated the show's episodes en masse on the Internet Movie Database (aka IMDb...

Even though she is one of the most impressive leaders in the franchise, Star Trek: Voyager's Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) has never done one thing that every other lead Star Trek captain has. Janeway's career is littered with incredible achievements. During her first mission in command of the USS Voyager, she and her crew found themselves stranded in the Delta Quadrant, forcing her to spend seven years trying to find a faster way home. She also initiated First Contact with numerous new alien species, battled the Borg Queen, and kept most of her crew alive, despite the odds.
As the second spin-off of Star Trek: The Next Generation, Voyager built on elements that had been introduced in Tng and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. In Voyager's feature-length premiere, "Caretaker", Captain Janeway visited Space Station Deep Space Nine before she set off to find the missing Maquis spaceship, the Val Jean.

Star Trek loves prequels, and Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) explained why on Star Trek: Voyager 28 years ago. Since 1966, the Star Trek franchise has spanned a dozen TV series and 13 movies, with more on the way. While Star Trek is forward-looking and forward-thinking, with its adventures spanning a thousand years of the Star Trek timeline, and branching beyond into a multiverse, Star Trek is also very nostalgic about its own past. So much so that there are currently 8 Star Trek prequel projects constituting various TV series and feature films.

The work of British filmmaker Christopher Nolan, past and recent, merits even greater appreciation when compared to Chinese director Chen Sicheng’s ambitious but saccharine and mostly dull “Decoded,” an adaptation of the 2002 novel of the same name by Mai Jia. This cradle-to-grave portrait of fictional character Rong Jinzhen (Liu Haoran), a prodigious orphan turned valuable government asset in the 1940s, chronicles how his unique skillset ultimately helped clear the path for China to establish its own nuclear weapons program.
While the magnitude of his task and its global repercussions might immediately induce comparisons to Nolan’s “Oppenheimer,” if one takes “Decoded” as “China’s answer” to the recent best picture Oscar winner, the moniker must come with the caveat that this means it’s a toothless film as it relates to moral ambiguity. It’s not a dissident work of art made to question the pursuit of such armament,...

Own a piece of Star Trek history with Captain Sulu's USS Excelsior for sale by Heritage Auctions starting at $40,000. The Excelsior is one of nearly 600 items up for sale, including Kirk's green uniform, and Carrie Fisher's metal bikini from Star Wars. The July auction also features iconic artwork from Star Trek like Bob Peak's original poster for Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.
This month, fans of Star Trek have a chance to buy the USS Excelsior, commanded by Captain Hikaru Sulu (George Takei), provided that they have big pockets. Dexter: Original Sin will explore younger versions of the original characters and pivotal moments in their lives. Patrick Gibson plays Dexter Morgan, while Michael C. Hall doesn't return, raising potential canon issues. Original Sin must decide whether to recreate or use archive footage of Dexter's first kill, risking retcon or misremembering events.
Dexter: Original Sin will likely need to retread ground already covered in the original Dexter show, but there's one moment in particular that will prove pivotal to the main character's development. The cast of Dexter: Original Sin will consist of younger actors playing characters who have largely already been established in the parent show. The role of Dexter Morgan will be played by Patrick Gibson, rather than original actor Michael C Hall returning to play the character. However, Hall's history with the franchise could present the prequel with something of a problem.

Nichelle Nichols refused to cameo as Uhura in Star Trek: Voyager due to role size concerns, despite urging from George Takei. Although disappointing, Nichols' refusal is justified given her status as a Star Trek icon. Despite missing Uhura, Voyager successfully incorporated classic Tos characters like Sulu and Janice Rand in the season 3 episode "Flashback."
Nyota Uhura (Nichelle Nichols) almost appeared in Star Trek: Voyager, but fellow Star Trek: The Original Series actor George Takei explained why Uhura's cameo was abandoned. Nichols' portrayal of Lt. Uhura on Tos was a landmark representation of Black women on television at a time when Black female characters had very few positive portrayals, especially in science fiction. Although Uhura has gone on to be depicted by other actors in the franchise, Nichols never returned to play her in other projects after her tenure in Tos and the Tos portion of Star Trek's movie series.

Janeway missed the milestone of meeting Captain Kirk, unlike Picard and Sisko who shared that honor in their respective series. Janeway displayed unwavering loyalty to Starfleet's Prime Directive, similar to Picard, while also having a keen eye for potential like Sisko. In the modern video game industry, almost every developer and publisher has their eyes on starting a franchise from day one of development. Features get cut that would fit better in a sequel. Plot points are set up for a future game. If you can franchise something, you can make a lot more money.
But sometimes, those plans don’t quite work out. A game sells well, a sequel gets greenlit, and for whatever reason, it barely makes a dent in the gaming consciousness, or maybe it never even makes its way to the West. Some of these sequels were stumbling blocks in bigger franchises, or offshoots that got stuck on platforms with small userbases. And a few seemed poised for bigger things but never quite caught on. Regardless of the how or why, these are some of the most notable video game sequels you probably forgot existed.

Yeoman Janice Rand, the character played by Grace Lee Whitney in the original "Star Trek," only appeared in eight episodes of the show, but she left an impression. By Whitney's own description, Janice Rand was a "girl next door" type, adding a relatable element to the wild sci-fi setting of a series set in the 23rd century. While Captain Kirk (William Shatner) conversed and analyzed with Spock (Leonard Nimoy), Rand was busy doing petty jobs, filing paperwork, and distributing refreshments. I can't speak for other Trekkies, but when imagining myself getting a job on the U.S.S. Enterprise, I imagine being a yeoman is all I'd be qualified for.
Whitney has said in her autobiography "The Longest Trek: My Tour of the Galaxy," that Rand was written out of "Star Trek" because she had too much chemistry with Kirk. The relationship between Janice and Jim could easily have developed into something romantic,...

Tim Russ has played multiple characters in the Star Trek universe, including Lt. Commander Tuvok in Voyager. Tuvok served in Starfleet during the same time as Tim Russ's unnamed Enterprise Lieutenant character, suggesting that they co-existed in Star Trek's 23rd century and may have crossed paths. In William Shatner's film "Star Trek V: The Final Frontier," the U.S.S. Enterprise is hijacked by a hippie Vulcan cult leader named Sybok (Laurence Luckinbill) and flown to the very center of the Milky Way. In reality, the galaxy's center is the site of a supermassive black hole called Sagittarius A*. In "Frontier," Sybok believes it's where God lives. Not a spiritual conduit to God, mind you, but the actual physical body of God Himself. Kirk (Shatner) and Spock (Leonard Nimoy) think Sybok is mad, but are dragged along in his mad scheme.
When the Enterprise arrives at its destination, however, it seems for a few moments that Sybok is right. He and the Enterprise crew encounter and land on a mysterious planet, and God Himself (George Murdock) appears. Everyone is awestruck ... except for Kirk. Stuntman-turned-director Derek Barnes has expanded his 2016 short Walking Supply into a feature, which made its world premiere at this year’s Blood in the Snow film festival.
Walking Supply opens with a bang as the Russian offices of an international corporation are raided by armed men of unknown origin who kidnap several of the staff. The men end up in a labour camp, and the women probably have an even worse fate. They’re told if their company pays for their release, they’ll be freed. Until then, work until you drop if you don’t want to starve.
Henry is saved from the lecherous attentions of some of the other inmates by Kurt and Anthony. Henry repairs electrical devices for the camp’s commander which puts...

Taylor Swift's "Reputation," released in 2017, is kind of two albums put together. On one half of the album, she takes swipes at people who betrayed her and proves, as she sings on "Look What You Made Me Do," that the "old Taylor" is "dead." On the other half, Swift sings about her early days of love with then-boyfriend Joe Alwyn (the pair split earlier in 2023). One of the songs in the second, romantic half is titled "Dress," and it's one of Swift's most sensual tracks. She sings on the chorus, "Say my name and everything just stops. / I don't want you like a best friend. / Only bought this dress so you could take it off."
Back when the song was released, and in part because of the "best friend" reference, some fans originally thought the song was about Swift's friend Ed Sheeran, but he clarified that it definitely wasn't...

Netflix is one such platform that doesn’t shy away from any sort of content. Whether it be a feature film from the remotest part of the world or a short film that is well made, just so long as there is a hint of a vision. Two new short films have been dropped on Netflix titled Flashback and Disco Inferno that might interest horror fans. Both short films evoke a strong sense of the supernatural, one even dealing with a bit of a sci-fi time travel scheme. Short films usually work when there is a strong idea at the core or two thoughts or styles are pitted against each other to create a polarity that is engaging for that short amount of time. Flashback, with its idea of changing the past while one is literally dying, is fantastical, but with its naivety, it becomes endearing. Disco Inferno pits the...

Jed Shepherd, the writer of Shudder sensation Host as well as Rob Savage’s follow-up Dashcam, sat in the director’s chair for Flashback, a new horror short coming to Netflix.
“I’m very excited to announce Flashback, which I wrote/directed for Netflix,” Shepherd tweets this week. “It stars some of the loveliest people I know and is out This Friday, October 20.”
Shepherd has also shared a teaser trailer for Flashback, which stars Jemma Moore (Host) as a yoga teacher. Set in South London, the short features “time travel and monsters.”
Of particular note, Fangoria brings us the word that mega popular artist Trevor Henderson (Mayfair Watcher’s Society) worked with Shepherd on the short’s monster design!
In Flashback, “a yoga teacher’s life flashes before her eyes during a home invasion. Before time runs out she must use the flashback to race back in time and save the man she loves.

Plenty of haunted, Halloween and holiday options will crop up on Netflix in the month of October. The harvest doesn’t seem too lean despite the almost five-month writers strike that viewers are sure to feel next year, but at least the WGA and AMPTP have reached a deal, and hopefully, SAG-AFTRA is not too far behind. Luckily, Halloween and fall have a classic canon of films and TV shows that stretches back decades, and some of those staple watches will be available through Netflix throughout the month.
Movies include “Casper,” “Scarface” and the first two “The Amazing Spider-Man” films. New arrivals worth the wait include Denis Villeneuve’s “Dune” starring Zendaya and Timotheé Chalamet among other heavy hitters, “Fair Play” with Phoebe Dynevor and Alden Ehrenreich and David Yates’ “Pain Hustlers” starring Emily Blunt and Chris Evans. There are a few standout new releases on Netflix in October, but it’s a rather quiet month on the world’s most popular streaming service otherwise!
Highlights this month include a brand-new series from Spook Master Mike Flanagan. The Fall of the House of Usher is a gothic tale loosely based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allan Poe, and tells the story of two extremely unpleasant siblings whose family dynasty ends up going to hell in a handbasket. Before you ask: yes, Rahul Kohli is in it. That’s all that a lot of people need to know here (we’re people).
Elsewhere, Netflix is dropping a few interesting-looking docuseries, including one on football legend David Beckham. It promises to be an “intimate portrait” of Beckham, and the filmmakers were apparently granted unprecedented access to the sportsman and his family while making it.

The deleted scene from James Cameron's The Terminator reveals a clever twist that completes a time loop in the franchise's narrative. The scene, cut due to subpar acting by non-professional actors, would have provided a seamless bridge to the sequel and enhanced the entire series' story arc. While The Terminator remains innovative and iconic, fans speculate about the potential consequences and improved narrative if the scene had been included.
James Cameron's 1984 opus, The Terminator, has garnered a cult following over the decades, majorly attributed to Arnold Schwarzenegger's depiction of a future cyborg killer. The acclaim received by Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 1991 fortified the franchise's position in the realm of pop culture. However, what most fans don’t realize is that a pivotal scene deleted from the original film set up the entire series. Key scene deleted from original Terminator movie sets up future events in the franchise, revealing how the technology for the machines was discovered. Producers had to use non-actors in the deleted scene due to a demand from financiers, resulting in questionable acting that ruined the scene. Despite the deletion, the overall film remains satisfying, but the perfect time loop moment would have added a sci-fi twist and made the movie even better.
The Terminator producer Gale Ann Hurd explains why a key deleted scene featuring the recovery of the T-800’s arm and chip was cut from the movie. Released in 1984, James Cameron’s sci-fi/action classic introduced an iconic character in Arnold Schwarzenegger’s cyborg assassin from the future. With the release of Terminator 2: Judgment Day in 1991, Cameron’s creation officially became a franchise, but as hardcore fans realize, the series was actually set up perfectly in a...

Quick Links Beautiful Art Reveals An Atmospheric World Solid Gameplay Mostly Fails To Inspire Final Thoughts & Review Score
Full Void, developed by independent London studio OutOfTheBit, is a somewhat unusual platformer in the modern market. Rather than aiming for snappy, responsive movement that rewards gamers with twitch reflexes, Full Void takes inspiration from titles like Flashback and Prince of Persia to focus more on cinematic value. The game excels in this regard, delivering a rich aesthetic experience that learns wisely from both 16-bit forbears and more modern developments in video game art and sound. Full Void's gameplay, on the other hand, rarely rises above generally solid execution to reach the same heights.
The opening of Full Void takes a refreshingly minimalist tack, displaying the control scheme and playing a short cutscene in the game's pixel art style before launching directly into gameplay. It's an immersive approach that sets the tone...

Star Trek's Mr. Sulu (George Takei) remains one of the franchise's most popular and enduring characters, with an extensive history explored over the years. First introduced in Star Trek: The Original Series, Sulu is mainly remembered as the helmsman of the USS Enterprise under the command of Captain James T. Kirk (William Shatner). Although he acted as a supporting character during Tos, Sulu was integral to the show's main cast, specifically because of his role as a bridge officer on the Enterprise which often put him in the thick of the action during an episode's main storyline.
As a Japanese-American character on television in the 1960s, Sulu was a big part of the vision of greater diversity that Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry worked to incorporate into The Original Series. This combined with George Takei's excellent acting skills cemented Sulu's popularity throughout Tos and the six feature films that followed the show.

Taylor Swift and Joe Alwyn's split after six years of dating has rocked fans of the Hollywood couple. According to an April 8 Entertainment Tonight report, the breakup happened weeks before it was made public and "was not dramatic." Apparently, "the relationship had just run its course."
Swift and Alwyn's relationship was incredibly sweet and low-key. They made very few official appearances together over the years, but Swift often alluded to their romance in her music, like when she sang about falling head over heels for the British actor in her song "Gorgeous." The lyrics recall her getting lost in his ocean-blue eyes, make fun of his British accent, and indicate she had a boyfriend when they first met (more on that later).
So, just how did the former lovebirds initially come into contact? The timeline is a little bit fuzzy, but it's believed the pair first met at...

Warning: Spoilers for Star Trek: Picard Season 3, Episode 7 - "Dominion"Star Trek: Picard season 3 brought back Tuvok (Tim Russ) for a surprise cameo appearance, but how old is Tuvok in 2401? Tuvok was the beloved Vulcan tactical and security officer on Star Trek: Voyager, but barring a brief non-speaking cameo in Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Picard season 3 is the first time audiences have seen Tuvok back in the franchise since the early 2000s. Tuvok's cameo in Picard season 3 adds yet another well-known Star Trek name to the season's long list of popular character returns, coming on the heels of Ro Laren (Michelle Forbes) appearing in episode 5.
Tuvok's return came at the very beginning of Star Trek: Picard season 3, episode 7, "Dominion", in a scene that unfortunately revealed that the Vulcan had been captured and was now being impersonated by a Changeling. This post contains spoilers for season 3, episode 7 of "Star Trek: Picard."
The raison d'être of the third season of "Star Trek: Picard" has been its much-touted reunion of seven members from the "Star Trek: The Next Generation" cast. That the season is on its seventh episode and the fact that the entire cast has yet to be gathered in one room only reveals the showrunners' utmost restraint. Given the events of the last few episodes, however, one can rest assured that the actual reunion is coming soon.
Despite the restraint on display, the new season of "Picard" has nonetheless whetted Trekkies' appetite for cameos, reunions, and other fun in-jokes and nostalgic references. In the timeline of "Picard," multiple notable "Star Trek" characters are still alive and thriving, and some viewers may have their fingers crossed for appearances from some of their favorites. As with most Star Trek shows, Star Trek: Voyager had certain seasons that were better than others in its seven season run. Voyager was the fourth television series in the Star Trek franchise and ran congruently with Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, premiering in January 1995 and ending in May 2001 for a total of 172 episodes. The show was notable for introducing many popular characters including Captain Kathryn Janeway (Kate Mulgrew) and Seven of Nine (Jeri Ryan), and maintains a devoted following among Star Trek fans today.
Star Trek: Voyager's overarching plot about the crew attempting to return home after being stranded in the Delta Quadrant created numerous opportunities for great storytelling. Voyager introduced new sci-fi challenges and alien races to a well-established franchise, while still taking the opportunity to explore already popular Star Trek aliens, concepts, and characters.
