Since making his acting debut in 1982's "Fast Times at Ridgemont High," Nicolas Cage has gone on to amass an astounding filmography that has never stopped evolving. He's admittedly made some baffling choices as an actor, starring in the infamously terrible "Deadfall" (which has a zero rating on Rotten Tomatoes) and the 2019 dud "Grand Isle," whose flaws have more to do with its storytelling than Cage's performance as a haunted war veteran. Really, we would be here all day if I were to list the scores of middling-to-awful straight-to-video flicks Cage has starred in, yet the actor never, ever phones it in and shows up to every role with an intensity that is tough to match.
Being one of those actors who shines brighter than ever when given layered, intriguing roles to work with, Cage has delivered several unforgettable performances worth rooting for. For starters, we have the lesser-known...

New Orleans natives may be slightly disappointed to find that a movie titled “Crescent City” — long a popular nickname for the storied Louisiana metropolis — actually is set in and around Little Rock, Ark. On the other hand, they might be happy to find that their hometown is not represented at all in this overplotted and instantly disposable drama, a bland gumbo of serial killer tropes, internal affairs investigation, Satanic sex addicts and buddy-cop shoot-’em-up stuff. The movie opens day-and-date Aug. 16 in limited theatrical runs as well as on digital platforms, but it’s really best suited for home screen perusing — just so viewers can intermittently hit pause and ask one another, “Wait, what the hell was that all about?”

Exclusive: NBC’s Chicago Fire has cast KaDee Strickland for a recurring role in Season 13. The new season begins Sept. 25 at 8 p.m. on NBC and next day on Peacock.
She will portray Monica Pascal, the new Fire Chief Dom Pascal’s (Dermot Mulroney) estranged wife. As Deadline reported in July, Mulroney joined the popular firefighter drama as Boden’s (Eamonn Walker) successor following his exit as a series regular in the Season 12 finale.
Before Boden was promoted to Deputy Commissioner of the Chicago Fire Department, he had chosen Christopher Herrmann (David Eigenberg) as his successor. The introduction of Dom Pascal would interfere with that plan, and Eigenberg earlier this month shared insight with Deadline as to why Herrmann may pass on the opportunity.
“I want to say he felt like he had the rug pulled from under him because I don’t think [Herrmann] saw what...

Exclusive: Trimax Media, the production company led by Alan Glazer (The Bank Job), has acquired film rights to No Bullet Got Me Yet, John Stansifer’s forthcoming book about U.S. Army Chaplain, Father Emil Kapaun.
Stansifer has scripted the film adaptation, titled Father Kapaun’s Valley, which Stephen Campanelli (Drinkwater) is attached to direct. The intention with the project is to help fill the void when it comes to U.S.-produced films about the Korean War, while spotlighting a little-known war hero currently on the path to sainthood. Nicolas Cage's ability to play unhinged characters is his trademark, and he fully commits to each role, captivating audiences throughout the entire film. Cage's remarkable work ethic allows him to churn out a high number of films each year, with a level of zeal and dedication that sets him apart from other actors. While Cage may have been criticized for making bad movies, he has also been recognized for his outstanding performances in prestigious films, showcasing his range as a dramatic and comedic actor.
There are few actors who bring quite as much excitement to a movie as Nicolas Cage. He has been a huge star in Hollywood for decades and is still making all types of films. The thing is, people often call him out for making just as many bad movies as good movies.
However, even his “bad” movies are delightful. So what is it about Cage that continues to endure?...

Picking out the best Nicolas Cage movie can be fairly challenging, given the fact that the Hollywood star has starred in a diverse array of films of varying merit. Nothing short of a cultural tour-de-force, Nicolas Cage has managed to acquire a dedicated cult following over the years, whilst winning various accolades including an Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and Golden Globe. However, when it comes to Cage, a string of offbeat roles granted him a bad movie streak. Seminal among these is Deadfall, Left Behind, and Pay The Ghost, among which the first two can be deemed as downright unwatchable.
Having said that, it is important to acknowledge that Cage is no stranger to portraying strong, complex characters, as evidenced in his revenge-fueled, yet pathos-inducing rendition of Red in Panos Cosmatos’ heavy metal valentine, Mandy. Underwhelming performances aside, there is a plethora of Cage films that deserve praise and consideration,...

Nicolas Cage’s direct-to-video days may be over — we’ve come a long way from the “Kill Chain,” “Primal,” “Grand Isle” triple-header of 2019 — but the guy is simply too eager and too curious to just sit by the phone and wait for someone to call him with a script as strong and/or well-tailored to him as “Mandy,” “Pig,” or “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.”
While Cage’s latest creative renaissance is hopefully still just getting started, his current upswing was always going to be pockmarked by its fair share of forgettably solid genre films. We’re talking respectable programmers with compromised scripts, cool supporting casts, and just enough credibility to stride onto Redbox with their heads held high. The kind of movie whose director tried to get it made for more than a decade before deciding that driving a roadworthy Nicolas Cage vehicle would be preferable to leaving...

A couple weeks ago, we learned that a new take on Red Sonja had gone into production – after spending decades in development hell – with Matilda Lutz (Revenge) in the title role. Deadline reports that Lutz is joined in the cast by Oliver Trevena, who has experience wielding a sword thanks to his role in the 2019 film The Rising Hawk. Trevena is taking on the role of Tr’aal, “a gladiator-type warrior who joins Sonja in her fight against an evil emperor”.
M.J. Bassett (Solomon Kane) is directing Red Sonja from a screenplay by Joey Soloway (Transparent) and Tasha Huo (Netflix’s Tomb Raider anime). This version of Red Sonja is derived from the sword and sorcery comic books by Dynamite Entertainment, based on the character created by Robert E. Howard and adapted by Roy Thomas. Nicolas Cage has appeared in dozens of movies of varying critical reception over the years, but his latest movie Pig has risen above the rest as his highest-rated live-action movie on Rotten Tomatoes. With a 97% Certified Fresh score, Pig has topped Red Rock West at 95%, Moonstruck at 94%, and Face/Off at 92%. The 97% score is tied with the animated movie Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which featured Cage as the voice of Spider-Man Noir.
This is certainly great news for Nicolas Cage, who has developed a bit of a reputation for accepting all roles thrown his way, for better or for worse. He has previously starred in universally panned movies with 0% rotten scores on Rotten Tomatoes, like Deadfall and Grand Isle. Titles like The Wicker Man, Bangkok Dangerous, and Arsenal didn't fare much better. Perhaps this just goes to show that Cage is indeed a fantastic actor, he just needs the right material to work with.

Ten years ago in January, the people of Egypt took to the streets to demand the fall of President Hosni Mubarak and his regime. It was the most spectacular of the revolutions during the so-called Arab Spring both in numbers and media coverage, as well as for the abject failure of its goals. Manal Khaled’s long-gestating, aptly-named “Trapped” is composed of three stories set in those early days, when people from all walks of life were thrown together during the struggle for freedom, sharing their fears and hopes with strangers. That it struggles to do so is more a reflection of the prosaic nature of the filmmaking rather than the spirit of those involved.
The subject alone is a dangerous one to address in the current Egyptian political climate given the heightened state of repression under the military dictatorship, and Khaled struggled to find backers, ultimately crowdsourcing funding via...

Nicolas Cage’s current status as a crazed-eyed paycheck-hunting star of contemporary schlock cinema seems to have reached the new evolutionary stage of conjuring meta-minded movie mirth with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. With Cage set to portray himself, it appears that the film has honed in on a momentum-riding co-star in Pedro Pascal.
Lionsgate is in talks with Pascal to co-star opposite Cage in the film, reports The Wrap. Should the deal be finalized, Pascal will play Javi, a character described as “a Nic Cage superfan who is not all that he appears to be.” The co-starring duo will be in front of the camera for director Tom Gormicon, who is known as the co-creator—alongside Kevin Etten—of Fox’s single-season 2017-2018 supernatural comedy, Ghosted, and a lone feature credit in 2014 ensemble comedy That Awkward Moment, which starred Michael B. Jordan, Miles Teller, Zac Efron, Mackenzie Davis and Imogen Poots.

I can honestly say the Netflix original series The Floor Is Lava is one of the most unique game shows I have ever seen. The show has contestants race across a range of crazy obstacle courses to get from one side of the room to the other but what sets this show apart is that the floor is flooded with a red bubbling liquid that represents lava. If you are unfamiliar with the concept of the “The Floor Is Lava” game you have to move around without touching the floor and this show is built on that premise. The winning contestants in this show get a “Volcano of Victory” which is simply a cheap lava lamp you could buy on sites such as Amazon but winners also get $10, 000 which proves to be the biggest encouragement for the contestant in this show.

If America had its own path to sainthood, John Lewis would have made it there long ago. The 80-year-old Civil Rights icon and congressman has navigated decisive American moments with superhuman finesse, making him a natural cinematic character. As with 2018’s Ruth Bader Ginsberg documentary “Rgb,” Porter offers a closeup look at a historic figure somehow still in the game decades down the line, and seemingly too good for this world. “As long as I have breath in my body,” Lewis says to the camera, “I’ll do what I can.”

If America had its own path to sainthood, John Lewis would have made it there long ago. The 80-year-old Civil Rights icon and congressman has navigated decisive American moments with superhuman finesse, making him a natural cinematic character. Nicolas Cage has been named the hardest working actor in Hollywood over the last five years. This, according to an analysis of some of the biggest names in the business and looking at their output. It's important to note that it counts work as a producer, which helped to bolster quite a few names on the list. But in the case of Cage, it was purely grinding it out as an actor.
According to the report, Nicolas Cage has starred in 27 features over the last five years. In 2015 Cage had a relatively modest two movies released with The Runner and Pay the Ghost. But in 2018, for example, Cage put in a ton of work with Mandy, Looking Glass, 211, Teen Titans Go! to the Movies, Between Worlds and Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse all hitting theaters. Last year saw the actor appear in movies such as Primal and Grand Isle. Cage...

Lionsgate has set a March 19, 2021 wide-release date for The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, the meta action comedy that stars Nicolas Cage as a version of himself.
Tom Gormican is directing the film based on the screenplay he wrote with Kevin Etten. Kevin Turen is producing.
The plot: Creatively unfulfilled and facing financial ruin, the fictionalized version of Cage must accept a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a super fan. When things take a wildly dangerous turn, Cage is forced to live up to his own legend, channeling his most iconic and beloved on-screen characters in order to save himself and his loved ones.
The project has been percolating since November, when Lionsgate entered final negotiations for the film, to be helmed by Gormican, who created the Fox comedy series Ghosted that Etten executive produced.
Cage’s recent genre credits include cult hit Mandy, and he is starring in Wally’s Wonderland,...

Our last stop on our Cage-a-Thon was Grand Isle a psychological thriller with our Lord and Saviour alongside Kelsey Grammer for the first time in his 103 movie credited career. Now it was time to go back to beginning for the first proper big leading man role this hard working sumbitch would tackle. We did the TV Pilot then we watched the entirety of Fast Times so we could catch his 20 second cameo but now its time to see the movie where Nicolas Coppola became Nicolas Cage… No literally it was for this movie he changed his last name to Cage and would drop his famously connected last name for the purpose of making a career on his own merits. Lets see what happened here with 1983′s Valley Girl.

Well well… As we skip right ahead to the latest movie in our Lord and Saviours filmography we come across Grand Isle. We started this little adventure with a TV and a blink and you will miss it cameo so It is good to get into some deep Cagey waters. Throw into the mix Kelsey Grammer and I am ready see what this 2019 direct to video release has for me… Incidentally his 6th movie of the year, not bad output for the hardest working man in cinema history.

Well people we are kicking off the Appreciation of our Lord and Saviour Nicolas Cage proper with his first official big screen debut in this Amy Heckerling directed, Cameron Crowe biographical tale Fast Times at Ridgemont High. A movie that admittedly I have never actually seen but heard many a great thing about this 80s coming of age comedy that launched many a career including the figurehead of our Appreciaton Society.
Now from what I know this one is a cameo but they all count and we shall count em all.

A sub-Tennessee Williams potboiler triangle between restless sexpot, impotent husband, and hunky handyman ever-so-slowly congeals into a lumpy gumbo of thriller elements in “Grand Isle.” This third directorial big-screen feature for veteran Steadicam operator Stephen S. Campanelli has plenty of potential guilty-pleasure signifiers — not least being top-billed Nicolas Cage’s sixth vehicle this year — but the overripe (if underdeveloped) payoff arrives only after a full hour of patience-testing buildup. Opening on 15 screens Dec. 6, it looks to make a much larger commercial impact as a night’s disposable home entertainment in simultaneous on-demand release.
An opening sequence that turns out to be something of a red herring finds Cage’s tippling ex-Marine Walter Franklin roused from slumber in 1988 by a break-in at his rural southern Louisiana manse. The would-be thief manages to get back outside, but is shot by the master of the house as he’s clambering over the picket fence.

Nicolas Cage won’t have to dig too deep for his next role as… himself.
The 55-year-old actor is set to star in The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, a film that will feature Cage as a “creatively unfulfilled,” less rich version of himself, according to Deadline.
In the movie, Cage reluctantly accepts a $1 million offer to perform at the party of one of his super fans, who also happens to be a Mexican billionaire, reports the outlet. When the party gets out of control, Cage must rely on some of his iconic characters to save himself.

Lionsgate is in final negotiations to land The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent, a film project scripted by Tom Gormican (Ghosted) & Kevin Etten. Deadline has confirmed that if the deal makes, the studio will make the meta feature that will star Nicolas Cage playing a version of himself. Gormican, who created the Fox comedy series Ghosted, which Etten executive produced, would direct.
The film tells the story of Nicolas Cage (Cage), who, in need of some money and creatively unfulfilled, begrudgingly accepts a $1 million offer to attend the birthday of a Mexican billionaire super fan. When things take a wild turn, Nick is forced to become a version of some of his most iconic and beloved characters in order to extricate himself from an increasingly dangerous situation.
Kevin Turen will produce, along with Cage and Mike Nilon via their Saturn Films.

"She's got a dark side... Darker than hell." Screen Media Films has unveiled an official trailer for the indie murder suspense-thriller called Grand Isle, the latest film directed by cameraman turned director Stephen S. Campanelli (also of Momentum and Indian Horse). Set during a hurricane, this seductive murder mystery turned wild thriller is about a young father who is charged for murder. He must prove his innocence through recalling a very twisted and dark night of events. Nicolas Cage stars with KaDee Strickland playing his wife, and a cast including Luke Benward, Kelsey Grammar, Emily Marie Palmer, Zulay Henao, and Oliver Trevena. This has a Southern Gothic look and feel, from the hurricane to the old house and all the sexual tension that sets things off. Might be a delectable watch if you're into these kind of pulpy stories. There really are two types of Nicolas Cage films nowadays. You have the run-of-the-mill, generic action-thrillers that feel as if Cage is just appearing in the film to keep himself busy and pay some bills. Then there are the films where the actor’s, uh, unique gifts are used to full effect and even if the film isn’t the most well-made or well-acted, it’s endlessly entertaining and never boring. Judging by the first trailer for “Grand Isle,” we could be looking at another film that falls in the latter category.

Nicolas Cage is set to star in a new horror film called Wally’s Wonderland, and this is going to be another great project for the actor that has been making some pretty crazy films lately.
Cage will take on the role of a janitor who is “forced to spend the night in a twisted amusement park where he is pulled into a living nightmare. As the threatening animatronic characters come to life, the janitor has to fight his way from one monster to another to survive until morning and get out of the park.”
That sounds like fun! I actually can’t wait to see Cage find himself battling a horde of animatronic characters! There’s no doubt that he’s going to have fun making this movie and that it’s going to entertaining audiences.
The film is being directed by Kevin Lewis (The Drop) from a script written by G.O. Parsons.
