The Cinesite Group, the VFX, immersive and animation studio that is headquartered in London, has a renewed long-term funding package of $215m to continue its operations.

In 2022, a $235m funding package was laid out for Cinesite, led by banks NatWest and Barclays. The renewed package comes in response to changing market conditions. NatWest Corporate Bank led the financing of the $215m package, alongside banks Barclays and Santander, and Cinesite’s shareholders.

Upcoming projects on which Cinesite has worked include A24’s Warfare, Lionsgate’s Michael Jackson biopic Michael, Amazon MGM Studios’ G2O and Paramount Pictures’Smurfs.

Cinesite, a leading independent visual effects and animation studio collective, has received a long-term funding package worth $215 million to support continued operations, technological innovation and strategic expansion.

The London-based group said financing — a series of transactions — was led by its longtime bankers NatWest alongside Barclays and Santander. Its shareholders, including family office Gryphion, supported the overall package of senior and junior debt and equity lines.

The financial commitment “underscores the company’s ambitions and confidence in the entertainment sector,” the company said, and “empowers Cinesite to overcome the challenges posed by recent industry disruption that has affected the entire sector.”

Disruption is right. The funding comes weeks after storied VFX giant Technicolor filed for bankruptcy in the UK and France and shuttered its U.S. operations, including The Mill. The leadership team and much of that creative staff joined forces with Dream Machine FX on a new venture called Arc Creative.

Apple TV+ has unveiled a new trailer for Seth Rogen's upcoming comedy show, The Studio. The star-studded series will feature guest appearances from A-list actors in every episode.

Apple dropped the new trailer for The Studio ahead of the show's global premiere at the 2025 SXSW Film & TV Festival's Opening Night TV Premiere event. Rogen stars as Matt Remick, the new head of a film studio struggling to stay relevant, as he and his team work to wrangle narcissistic artists and their corporate overlords while making great films. The ten-episode comedy will premiere globally on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, with a two-episode drop, followed by new episodes releasing weekly every Wednesday through May 21 on Apple's streaming platform.

If you were planning on discounting the upcoming "Barney" movie entirely, you might want to think again — because Ayo Edebiri has been tapped to write the script.

Mattel Films and A24 are teaming up for a "Barney" movie, and not only will Edebiri write it but, according to the official press release announcing the news, she may also star in the film as well. (Specifics on Edebiri's potential role aren't clear as of this writing.) Meanwhile, the movie is being produced by another industry powerhouse in the form of Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya, whose company 59% Productions is behind the project.

This is definitely an encouraging and, frankly, bizarre update (in a good way) when it comes to the "Barney" movie. So, what else do we know?

After leaving its mark on the genre in 2024, A24 has revealed its first horror movie of 2025. The official trailer for Opus, starring The Bear's Ayo Edebiri, has been released.

Edebiri stars as Ariel Ecton in Opus, a young writer who is invited to the remote compound of legendary pop star, Alfred Moretti (Emmy winner John Molkovich), who mysteriously disappeared 30 years ago, for an "exclusive listening experience" he's putting on. "Surrounded by the star’s cult of sycophants and intoxicated journalists, she finds herself in the middle of his twisted plan," reads the synopsis. Character actor John Capodice, whose roles included a memorable performance as a law enforcement officer in Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, has died. He was 83 years old.

Capodice's death was confirmed by a post on the website of the Pizzi Funeral Home in Northvale, New Jersey. A cause of death was not divulged, though Capodice died on Monday, Dec. 30, according to his obituary. It was noted that the actor "was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him."

Born in Chicago on Christmas Day in 1941, Capodice had just celebrated his 83rd birthday. After serving in the U.S. Army from 1964 to 1966, he began performing as an actor on the stage. He found early success by appearing in the play Getting Out, which won two Outer Critics Circle Awards in 1979. He also performed alongside John Lithgow and George Segal in a Broadway...

2024 really was the greatest year for animation ever.

There was an abundance of outrageously wonderful animated features released over the course of 2024 – all sorts of movies, with all sorts of animation styles and points-of-view. The fact that we left off plenty of wonderful movies, like Naoko Yamada’s brilliant, touching “The Colors Within” (which gets a wide release in January – seek it out), the French sci-fi noir “Mars Express” or mainstream gems like Mike Mitchell’s hellzapoppin’ “Kung Fu Panda 4,” tells you what a stellar year it really was.

The 12-episode series — first released on August 9 — picks up in the aftermath of last year's animated movie Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, which was based on a screenplay co-written by Seth Rogen.

In Mutant Mayhem, the turtles kick off their New York City adventures alongside human April O'Neil (Ayo Edebiri). The Transformers movies put Michael Bay's ability to create compelling live-action adaptations on full display, but they also accidentally ruined another franchise from the 90s. When it comes to critical ratings, the Transformers live-action movies come nowhere close to being as good as many other adaptations. However, when the movies' commercial reception is considered, they perfectly highlight that Michael Bay knows how to deliver blockbusters that please the masses.

Even beyond the Transformers movies, Michael Bay has used his iconic and bombastic filmmaking style to create visually stunning films that put spectacle before storytelling. Not all Michael Bay movies have been hits, but the director seems to be right up his alley when he gets to helm action flicks. Unfortunately, Michael Bay's success with the Transformers movies seemingly came with a cost: it accidentally led to the downfall of another franchise from the 1990s.

A Spaceballs sequel is currently in the works with Josh Gad on board to star, produce, and co-write the script. While not many details are yet known about the new film, it's sounding like some new information is soon to be announced.

In a new interview with Forbes to promote his Dark Horse comic, The Writer, Gad shared a big update on the project. He confirmed that there's a finished draft of the screenplay for Spaceballs 2 that's left everyone who's seen it so far feeling "blown away." The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles routinely go through a refresh every few years, whether it's in comics, movies, or television. Recently, we've had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and its spinoff series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which put emphasis on the "teenage" part of the equation. But one movie starring the Heroes in a Half-Shell has flown under the radar for years, and that's 2007's Tmnt. Tmnt was the first animated movie starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it boasted a star-studded cast, including Patrick Stewart, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Chris Evans. Despite this pedigree and being an outright commercial success during its theatrical run, two factors stopped Tmnt from getting a sequel.

Anyone who grew up in the 90s will be a big fan of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, of that I don’t doubt. Four mutated turtles, trained in martial arts by an elderly, talking rat to fight the forces of evil in New York City? How could you not?

The latest outing of the robots in disguise abandons its blockbuster credentials, and it’s all the better for it. Here’s our Transformers One review.

It’s strange to think that, of all the films based on toys we’ve had in cinemas since 2020, Transformers One is only really the second to be aimed squarely at a young audience. Even then, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (which is technically based on a comic book anyway) offered old folks a degree of respite with a grungy-Spider-Verse art style and the half-shelled heroes’ signature anarchism.

It’s equally strange that the Transformers franchise, eight feature films in, has spent most of the last 17 years appealing to teenage boys and your mate’s mate who you wish you weren’t obliged to keep inviting to the pub. 2018’s Bumblebee was the first film to break the series’ tradition of being both uncomfortably leery and headache-inducingly dull.

Although Tmnt is one of the more forgotten Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle adaptations, it features a perfectly cast Chris Evans as Casey Jones, which makes it worth a watch. Released in 2007, Tmnt follows the turtles shortly after the defeat of the Shredder, the main antagonist to the turtles in the franchise. In the animated movie, Chris Evans voices Casey Jones, April's boyfriend and an ally to the turtles.

Even though Tmnt never got the sequel it deserved, it is a great standalone movie that features aspects of previous Tmnt adaptations. Evans' Casey Jones, in particular, is heavily inspired by the Casey voiced by Marc Thompson in the 2003 animated series and Pat Fraley in the 1987 Tmnt movie. Chris Evans' history in the superhero genre especially adds to the significance of his casting in the 2007 version.

The much-anticipated crossover between Idw Publishings Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Viz Medias Naruto just releases a special preview of the upcoming issue.

Anime News Network released six preview pages from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto #1. The first image shows a ninja scroll with the faces of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and April ONeil, and behind the scroll is the backdrop of the New York City skyline which seems to imply that, in this story, the Tmnt's NYC and the Village Hidden in the Leaves exist in the same world. Other images show a young Team Seven circa some point after the Chunin Exams, and likely just before the Sasuke Recovery Mission, since Tsunade is already the Hokage of Konoha.

Universal/DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” is showing it has the makings of a lengthy run at the box office, earning a solid $35 million domestic opening weekend from 3,982 theaters.

Given the recent struggles of animated films that are not sequels or based on a very popular IP, tracking for “The Wild Robot” was in the $20 million range. But exhibitor sources say that walk-up traffic has been strong this weekend as word of the film’s critical acclaim began to spread over the past week.

The film now has spectacular Rotten Tomatoes scores of 98% critics and audience to go with an A on CinemaScore. With the October release slate leaning towards adult-oriented superhero sequels, Halloween horror and Oscar contenders, there will be no direct competition for “The Wild Robot,” which will give it plenty of room to leg out for weeks on end.

Projections for the Chris Sanders animated film were in the $24-30 million range, with Universal keeping its projections to a more conservative $20 million-plus while exhibitor sources told TheWrap they held out hope that the film could clear $30 million.

Those hopes are being realized as awareness for “The Wild Robot” is seeing a late surge in audience awareness amid its widespread critical acclaim. The Amazing Digital Circus, the viral dark comedy loved by the creator of Chainsaw Man, will soon be available outside of YouTube. Netflix has announced that it will host all the series' current and upcoming episodes this October.

Glitch Productions, the Australian animation company behind The Amazing Digital Circus, recently announced its official partnership with Netflix. Episodes 1-3 of the viral YouTube cartoon will premiere on Netflix on Oct. 4, 2024. The Amazing Digital Circus will still be available on YouTube, with future episodes premiering on the popular video platform before Netflix. Although only two episodes of The Amazing Digital Circus are available, a Halloween-themed episode will premiere on YouTube in early October.
