Cinesite, a leading independent visual effects and animation studio collective, has received a long-term funding package worth $215 million to support continued operations, technological innovation and strategic expansion.
The London-based group said financing — a series of transactions — was led by its longtime bankers NatWest alongside Barclays and Santander. Its shareholders, including family office Gryphion, supported the overall package of senior and junior debt and equity lines.
The financial commitment “underscores the company’s ambitions and confidence in the entertainment sector,” the company said, and “empowers Cinesite to overcome the challenges posed by recent industry disruption that has affected the entire sector.”
Disruption is right. The funding comes weeks after storied VFX giant Technicolor filed for bankruptcy in the UK and France and shuttered its U.S. operations, including The Mill. The leadership team and much of that creative staff joined forces with Dream Machine FX on a new venture called Arc Creative.

Just when it seemed like Seth Rogen couldn't do better, early word of mouth about his upcoming AppleTV+ series The Studio makes it his best-reviewed project on Rotten Tomatoes. Rogen has been involved in some highly acclaimed film and television series projects as a writer, producer, and actor. Some of his best-reviewed include Steven Spielberg's The Fabelmans (92%), the dramedy 50/50 (93%), superhero satire The Boys (93%), the animated reboot Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (95%), and the hit Prime Video series Invincible (99%). While Invincible previously held the record for Seth Rogen's best-reviewed project on Rotten Tomatoes, The Studio has won the top prize.
The Studio, Rogen's satirical commentary on the modern Hollywood film industry, sits at a rare 100% on Rotten Tomatoes based on 18 reviews as of the time of this writing. The reviews have been glowing, with Angie Han of The Hollywood Reporter calling, saying The Studio "is a strong contender for...

Many of us were first introduced to Seth Rogen close to 25 years ago when he played Ken Miller, one of the “freaks” in Freaks and Geeks, then, as part of Judd Apatow’s usual group of actors and comedians he liked to work with, in comedy hits like The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Superbad, and the Rogen-starring Knocked Up. It didn’t take long for him to climb the Hollywood ladder, making his feature directorial debut with This Is the End, alongside co-director Evan Goldberg, almost causing an international incident with their second film, The Interview, becoming a producer on projects as varied as The Disaster Artist, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, The Boys, and Pam & Tommy (just to name a few), and starred in films by directors like Steven Spielberg, Danny Boyle, Michel Gondry, and Sarah Polley. Over the course of the 21st century, we’ve basically watched Rogen...

If you were planning on discounting the upcoming "Barney" movie entirely, you might want to think again — because Ayo Edebiri has been tapped to write the script.
Mattel Films and A24 are teaming up for a "Barney" movie, and not only will Edebiri write it but, according to the official press release announcing the news, she may also star in the film as well. (Specifics on Edebiri's potential role aren't clear as of this writing.) Meanwhile, the movie is being produced by another industry powerhouse in the form of Oscar-winner Daniel Kaluuya, whose company 59% Productions is behind the project.
This is definitely an encouraging and, frankly, bizarre update (in a good way) when it comes to the "Barney" movie. So, what else do we know?
Well, in 2023, Kevin McKeon, a Mattel executive, revealed that the movie about the beloved purple dinosaur will be a lot weirder (and cooler?) than you probably expected.

Even if you're not a big fan of the heroes in a half-shell, odds are, you're at least vaguely familiar with the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles." Though the superheroes had relatively humble origins in a black and white comic book published in 1984, it wasn't long before Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo, along with their rat father figure Master Splinter, became pop culture icons.
Co-created by Kevin Eastman and Peter Laird, the Ninja Turtles gained true fame beginning with their legendary '80s animated series, before the 1990 live-action "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" movie took things to new heights. Yet, back when it was still primarily the comics driving the characters forward, Eastman and Laird crafted a story that would eventually go on to become one of the most beloved stories in the history of this franchise, regardless of the medium. After the Oscars released the Academy Award nominations on the 23rd of January, many movie lovers celebrated the incredible accomplishments several films had made. Emilia Pérez earned a record-setting 13 nominations, followed by The Brutalist and Wicked, both earning ten nominations apiece. Although the reception to the news has been somewhat mixed, many fans have pointed out some of the Academy's biggest snubs.
Oscar snubs are bound to happen each year. Last year, movies like All of Us Strangers, Asteroid City, Beau Is Afraid, BlackBerry, The Iron Claw, Saltburn, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and more were all snubbed. Great Gerwig probably had the most disappointing snub after directing the groundbreaking Barbie. This year was no different, with many fans taking to social media and beyond to voice their disappointment.

Jackie Chan's best movies from the past 15 years demonstrate a surprising trend that proves he is so much more than a (legendary) martial arts actor. Most prominently known for his crazy martial arts stunts, Jackie Chan has featured in over 150 domestic and international movies in his 60-year career, breaking into Hollywood with titles such as Rush Hour and Rumble in the Bronx. However, Jackie Chan's recent movies show a different side of the famous actor and stuntman, as he has made a significant move into animation, starring as a voice actor in numerous roles.
From Mulan to the Kung Fu Panda movies, Chan has had a successful run in the animated movie medium, partly due to his popularity, yet mostly due to his incredible wit. Chan excels in action-comedy roles, having been an actor and stunt performer in the genre for the majority of his career, and this translates to his animated films.

Universal Pictures will release two of its biggest animated film franchises in 2026, as Minions 3 has been bumped up from 2027, which has delayed Shrek 5 back to a December release. When Shrek 5 was announced to arrive in theaters in the summer of 2026, fans were over the moon. Actor John Capodice, who was probably best known for his roles in movies such as Ace Ventura: Pet Detective and TV shows including Seinfeld and General Hospital, has died at the age of 83. One of those stars who has been seen by millions, even though many may not have his name on the tip of their tongue, Capodice leaves behind a body of work that incorporates over 200 acting credits.
Although Capodice never had that lead role, or long-running stint in a TV show, he certainly made his mark in the industry. That can be seen in the tributes that poured in on social media following the announcement of the actor’s passing. The news of his death was announced in a posting by the Pizzi Funeral Home, which read:
“John was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who had the pleasure to meet him.

Just five months after it debuted on a different streaming service, the universally acclaimed Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is now available to watch on Netflix. During the production of 2023’s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem, executive producers Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were tasked with developing a streaming series to further develop this new Ninja Turtles universe. In its 12-episode first season, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles serves to bridge the gap between Mutant Mayhem’s origin story and the film’s much-anticipated upcoming sequel.
After becoming beloved heroes by saving New York City from the wrath of Superfly at the end of Mutant Mayhem, Leonardo, Donatello, Raphael, and Michelangelo are still trying to figure out how to balance their heroics with their lives as regular teenagers attending high school. Marvel Animation isn't ruling out a feature film, according to Brad Winderbaum — but it needs to be the right project. Following the success of the animated film ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem,’ Paramount Pictures is bringing the iconic franchise to life with a new live-action project. However, this adaptation is set to take a darker, more mature approach, exploring a world of an R-rated storyline.
The studio is reportedly developing ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Last Ronin,’ a live-action film based on the popular Idw comic series. Tyler Burton Smith, known for his work on the upcoming R-rated action film ‘Boy Kills World’ and the 2019 ‘Child’s Play’ reboot, will write the script for this intense story.
Walter Hamada, former head of DC Films, is producing the movie through his 18hz production company. With his experience in the horror genre, having worked on hits like ‘The Conjuring’ and ‘It.’

2024 really was the greatest year for animation ever.
There was an abundance of outrageously wonderful animated features released over the course of 2024 – all sorts of movies, with all sorts of animation styles and points-of-view. The fact that we left off plenty of wonderful movies, like Naoko Yamada’s brilliant, touching “The Colors Within” (which gets a wide release in January – seek it out), the French sci-fi noir “Mars Express” or mainstream gems like Mike Mitchell’s hellzapoppin’ “Kung Fu Panda 4,” tells you what a stellar year it really was.
But enough with the preamble, let’s chart the very best animated features of 2024 – from melancholic stop-motion to wondrous, widescreen computer animation and everything in-between.
DreamWorks Animation/Netflix 10. “Orion and the Dark”
2024’s most underrated movie is, incredibly, a gonzo animated feature written by Charlie Kaufman. Yes, that Charlie Kaufman. Based on the children’s book by Emma Yarlett, it...

The final film in Sony Animation‘s Spider-Verse trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse, is swinging into production. Franchise vets Bob Persichetti and Justin K. Thompson will direct the highly anticipated threequel, striving for perfection after the first two films helped Spider-Verse become one of the most sought-after animated franchises ever.
“We have had the immense privilege of being part of Miles’ journey from the very beginning, and directing the conclusion to his story is beyond exciting,” said Persichetti and Thompson. “The creativity and care poured into every minute of this project has been truly inspiring. Netflixwill have fans everywhere shouting "cowabunga!" as the first season of Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles will move from Paramount+ to the streaming platform on January 1. All of which will set us up for the sequel film slated for October 2026. The Transformers movies put Michael Bay's ability to create compelling live-action adaptations on full display, but they also accidentally ruined another franchise from the 90s. When it comes to critical ratings, the Transformers live-action movies come nowhere close to being as good as many other adaptations. However, when the movies' commercial reception is considered, they perfectly highlight that Michael Bay knows how to deliver blockbusters that please the masses.
Even beyond the Transformers movies, Michael Bay has used his iconic and bombastic filmmaking style to create visually stunning films that put spectacle before storytelling. Not all Michael Bay movies have been hits, but the director seems to be right up his alley when he gets to helm action flicks. Unfortunately, Michael Bay's success with the Transformers movies seemingly came with a cost: it accidentally led to the downfall of another franchise from the 1990s.

Any “Twin Peaks” fan worth their garmonbozia knows Episode 8 of David Lynch and Mark Frost’s revival season “The Return,” from 2017, is the visual and thematic standout. Directing, Lynch traces the origins of an evil presence named Judy — rooting it back to the U.S.’s development of the atomic bomb — in an episode that explains where the series-legacy killer “Bob” came from and how that force has landed now-dazed FBI agent Dale Cooper (Kyle MacLachlan) in a detached red-room netherworld.
But one of the centerpieces of the iconic episode is a visceral performance courtesy of “The” Nine Inch Nails, in the red-lit Twin Peaks Roadhouse Bar, of “She’s Gone Away,” a violent, grunge-fueled ode to destruction and the places you dig into “’til your fingers bleed.” The song was a track on Nine Inch Nails’ 2016 EP “Not Actual Events,” an angry and haunting and weirdly dance-friendly (certainly given...

Fans of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (Tmnt) definitely have a lot to be happy about. One of the most popular comic book series of all time, which became a franchise consisting of various derivative works, is going through a renaissance in recent years: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem was a major success, and the characters had a major DC crossover event, the animated series is doing well… but there is more!
Namely, as you probably know, the Heroes in a Halfshell are currently enjoying a major crossover with one of the biggest animanga franchises of all time – Masashi Kishimoto’s Naruto! This is fitting, seeing how both franchises explore the world of the shinobi.
The first issue of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto was released on November 20, 2024, and everyone is just so excited with the new content and everything that it brings, including a cool redesign for the Turtles,...

The Sausage Party cast is star-studded, and thanks to the wide range of celebrity cameos playing foul-mouthed food items Seth Rogen's animated comedy remains as popular as ever. The raunchy comedy Sausage Party was not what anyone expected, an adult-animated movie about anthropomorphic food in a grocery store that believes that when they are bought, they will go to a better place where everything will be perfect. The stupidest and most soulless people out there are excited about the idea that human civilization will benefit from the increase in the usage of artificial intelligence and surveillance. If you ask them how technology can be developed to solve stuff like poverty, hunger, climate change, civil wars, international conflicts, gender inequality, racism, casteism, and the dwindling state of human rights, you will get radio silence. But if you ask them how they can infiltrate somebody’s private space in the name of national security or render some artist jobless so that your computer can spit out the most horrifying image known to mankind, you’ll see their eyes light up like it’s the fourth of July. And it’s pretty depressing to see industry juggernauts, both in the world of entertainment and technology, promote such unethical ideologies because that’s what’s in vogue right now. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles routinely go through a refresh every few years, whether it's in comics, movies, or television. Recently, we've had Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and its spinoff series, Tales of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, which put emphasis on the "teenage" part of the equation. But one movie starring the Heroes in a Half-Shell has flown under the radar for years, and that's 2007's Tmnt. Tmnt was the first animated movie starring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and it boasted a star-studded cast, including Patrick Stewart, Sarah Michelle Gellar, and Chris Evans. Despite this pedigree and being an outright commercial success during its theatrical run, two factors stopped Tmnt from getting a sequel.

The latest outing of the robots in disguise abandons its blockbuster credentials, and it’s all the better for it. Here’s our Transformers One review.
It’s strange to think that, of all the films based on toys we’ve had in cinemas since 2020, Transformers One is only really the second to be aimed squarely at a young audience. Even then, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem (which is technically based on a comic book anyway) offered old folks a degree of respite with a grungy-Spider-Verse art style and the half-shelled heroes’ signature anarchism.
It’s equally strange that the Transformers franchise, eight feature films in, has spent most of the last 17 years appealing to teenage boys and your mate’s mate who you wish you weren’t obliged to keep inviting to the pub. 2018’s Bumblebee was the first film to break the series’ tradition of being both uncomfortably leery and headache-inducingly dull.

Update: Two months after we published this feature about The Last Voyage Of The Demeter never making it to UK screens, the film is now available to watch at home! It appears that you can currently only buy the film on digital retailers, but a rent option often appears after a few weeks.
Coincidentally, Salem’s Lot is also being released in cinemas this week, so if you like vampire films, you’re having a great week, I bet.

Chris Evans Was Perfectly Cast As Casey Jones In This 17-Year-Old Tmnt Movie That Never Got A Sequel
Although Tmnt is one of the more forgotten Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle adaptations, it features a perfectly cast Chris Evans as Casey Jones, which makes it worth a watch. Released in 2007, Tmnt follows the turtles shortly after the defeat of the Shredder, the main antagonist to the turtles in the franchise. In the animated movie, Chris Evans voices Casey Jones, April's boyfriend and an ally to the turtles.
Even though Tmnt never got the sequel it deserved, it is a great standalone movie that features aspects of previous Tmnt adaptations. Evans' Casey Jones, in particular, is heavily inspired by the Casey voiced by Marc Thompson in the 2003 animated series and Pat Fraley in the 1987 Tmnt movie. Chris Evans' history in the superhero genre especially adds to the significance of his casting in the 2007 version.

The much-anticipated crossover between Idw Publishings Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Viz Medias Naruto just releases a special preview of the upcoming issue.
Anime News Network released six preview pages from Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles x Naruto #1. The first image shows a ninja scroll with the faces of Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, Kakashi and April ONeil, and behind the scroll is the backdrop of the New York City skyline which seems to imply that, in this story, the Tmnt's NYC and the Village Hidden in the Leaves exist in the same world. Other images show a young Team Seven circa some point after the Chunin Exams, and likely just before the Sasuke Recovery Mission, since Tsunade is already the Hokage of Konoha.

Universal/DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” is showing it has the makings of a lengthy run at the box office, earning a solid $35 million domestic opening weekend from 3,982 theaters.
Given the recent struggles of animated films that are not sequels or based on a very popular IP, tracking for “The Wild Robot” was in the $20 million range. But exhibitor sources say that walk-up traffic has been strong this weekend as word of the film’s critical acclaim began to spread over the past week.
The film now has spectacular Rotten Tomatoes scores of 98% critics and audience to go with an A on CinemaScore. With the October release slate leaning towards adult-oriented superhero sequels, Halloween horror and Oscar contenders, there will be no direct competition for “The Wild Robot,” which will give it plenty of room to leg out for weeks on end.

Universal/DreamWorks’ “The Wild Robot” is showing signs of a lengthy run at the box office, riding significant walk-up traffic to an estimated $35 million opening from 3,982 theaters.
Projections for the Chris Sanders animated film were in the $24-30 million range, with Universal keeping its projections to a more conservative $20 million-plus while exhibitor sources told TheWrap they held out hope that the film could clear $30 million.
Those hopes are being realized as awareness for “The Wild Robot” is seeing a late surge in audience awareness amid its widespread critical acclaim. With this start and a 98% Rotten Tomatoes and A Cinemascore grade in its back pocket, this film has all it needs to leg out through an October where no major family film competition is set to come out.
But the success of “The Wild Robot” is coming partly at the expense of Paramount/Hasbro’s “Transformers One,” which is seeing a...

There was a time in TV history when the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were the most radical thing on Saturday mornings, but one of their many knockoffs became the epitome of '90s cringe. Those who lived through the 1980s and 1990s remember when animated mutants, monsters, and colorful costumed crusaders dominated television. While some Tmnt clones managed to find a cult following and discover a niche in toyboxes, others faded into obscurity. Yet, a few of these neon-colored curiosities are worth digging up, serving as time capsules of a bygone era and offering insight into the pure desperation of trying to replicate TMNTs success. Such is the case with Creepy Crawlers, a magical, messy mix of '90s trends and probably one of the strangest attempts at creating the next big thing alongside the heroes in a half-shell.
