Sony has delayed A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, directed by After Yang’s Kogonada and starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell.
The absence of marketing for Sony’s upcoming mysterious film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, has had plenty of folks suggesting for a while that the film would be delayed. A no-prize reward goes to to them, then, as that has proven to be the case. Directed by Kogonada (After Yang) the film’s an intriguing oddity: the kind of expensive, movie star-driven project that we continue to be thankful to Sony for supporting.
A Big Bold Beautiful Journey was originally set to appear in cinemas a week after Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, but Sony appears to have backed off from that counter-programming strategy. “A Big Beautiful Journey” is taking a journey of its own.
The Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell-led drama, which was originally dated for a May 9 release, is moving to September 19. This will make the film a key bit of counterprogramming in the horror-heavy pre-Halloween corridor. The date change will also give Sony time to make it a true female event movie, something they have experience with (“It Ends With Us” made over $350 million worldwide).
The movie is described as “an original tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.”
“A Big Beautiful Journey” was directed by Kogonada (“After Yang”) and was written by Seth Reiss. It was produced by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, Reiss and Youree Henley. Kogonada, Ilene Feldman and Ori Eisen serve as executive producers. The supporting cast includes Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Hamish Linklater.

Moviegoers will have to wait a little longer for the Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell-led romantic fantasy “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey,” as Sony has shifted the film’s domestic theatrical release from May 9 to Sept. 19.
Sources close to production tell Variety that a September release was more appealing to the studio, as it’s filled with more horror and male-centered titles, allowing the female event film to stand out.
“A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” is described as “an imaginative tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.” Lily Rabe, Jodie Turner-Smith, Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Hamish Linklater also star.
The film is directed by Kogonada, who also helmed the TV series “Pachinko” and the sci-fi drama “After Yang.” “The Menu” scribe Seth Reiss penned the script.

The revolution is coming, and it seems like there's nothing anyone can do to stop it. As artificial intelligence continues to ramp up and infiltrate everyone's daily lives, it is inevitable that more science fiction films about the topic will spring up. Filmmakers have been giving their 2 cents on artificial intelligence for years, even prior to the massive recent developments of this decade, such as Gpt-4. From Spielberg's A.I. to Blade Runner to Alien, there have been countless takes on the subject in film, and all of them manage to be vastly different across multiple genres. Despite how fresh those three classics may seem, it is very easy for A.I. movies to age poorly due to the fact that the technology is constantly evolving.

The Colin Farrell-helmed hardboiled detective show Sugar wrapped May 17, and it was a mind-warper of an episode. The eight-episode miniseries has taken viewers for quite a ride, starting strong as an interesting contemporary take on the hardboiled genre that utilized the 2020s version of Colin Farrell perfectly as a polyglot, movie-loving private detective. Eventually, however, Sugar took quite a hard pivot that opened up its narrative in a big and shocking way.
Episode 6 signaled a major change of pace for Sugar, and since that reveal, the show has taken on an entirely different tone and meaning. The twist in Sugar elevated what was already a good show into a great one. The series has become a prime example of the Farrell career resurgence that includes his recent starring turns in the excellentThe Banshees of Inisherin and After Yang and his upcoming return to his role as a Batman villain in The Penguin.

In 2021, filmmaker Kogonada assembled an impressive lineup of performers for his sci-fi drama flick, After Yang. Starring Colin Farrell, Jodie Turner-Smith, Justin H. Min, and Malea Emma Tjandrawidjaja, the film served as a deep dive into the caverns of grief and mourning as a family reels from the loss of one of their own. Soon, the filmmaker will be at it again, this time with a romantic fantasy feature titled A Big Bold Beautiful Journey. Set for an arrival in cinemas on May 9, 2025, not much else is known about the production aside from its call sheet that will see Farrell and Turner-Smith reunite with the filmmaker alongside a lineup that includes Margot Robbie, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, Lily Rabe, Hamish Linklater, Billy Magnussen, and more.

The following contains spoilers for The Umbrella Academy Season 4, now streaming on Netflix.
One of the things that has left The Umbrella Academy fans a bit jaded is the bittersweet ending. The Hargreeves siblings manage to reset the timeline to what it was meant to be. But it comes at a great cost, as there are key deaths that occur that many deem cold and heartless.
While this ending isn't happy at all, one of the Umbrellas did get an ending filled with hope and love after the warping of space and time. This was none other than Justin H. Min, the actor who plays Ben in The Umbrella Academy. It came in a Hulu romantic comedy that had sci-fi as its spine: The Greatest Hits.

Luke Gilford knows about rodeos — his father was a rider in the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.
So it’s no surprise that the gay celebrity and fashion photographer turned his camera on the queer rodeo circuit for his 2020 debut photography book, “National Anthem: America’s Queer Rodeo.”
It’s that work that inspired the Colorado native’s feature directorial debut, also called “National Anthem.” The movie, which Gilford co-wrote with Kevin Best and David Largman Murray, stars Charlie Plummer as Dylan, a young man who goes to work on a ranch that is home to a group of queer rodeo performers. An unexpected romance blooms between him and a trans woman, played by Eve Lindley, as Dylan becomes more attached his new chosen family.

Taking smart home to the next level, once the unit and all its sensors and cameras are installed in their home, Aia seems able to do it all. Well, it's happened again. A high-profile franchise project starring women, members of the Lgbtqia community, and/or Poc has been review-bombed by audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, with the most vocally intolerant corners of a sprawling fandom making their voices heard loud and clear.
"Star Wars: The Acolyte" is the latest project on the receiving end of this tactic, with the show's audience score having fallen to 14% as of this writing. At this point, as only the fifth sentence of this article begins to unspool, I imagine a lot of fans are already bracing themselves, ready and waiting to wade into a discussion that's been happening in some form or fashion for a decade at this point. "Hey," they'll say, "I just genuinely think this show/movie sucks, Ok? Don't lump me in with racists and misogynists who go out of their way to give projects like this one star just for the lolz.

A little over five minutes into the third episode of Disney+’s “The Acolyte,” Jodi Turner-Smith’s Mother Aniseya makes a gesture of love. She meets with her fellow witch Mother Koril (Margarita Levieva) and gently touches her chin and strokes her cheek. It’s a beautiful moment of intimacy that in any other television show would be regarded as such, but given this was a “Star Wars” it’s a moment that immediately seems radical. Not only is “The Acolyte” introducing space witches, it is introducing space witches that are also very likely gay.

The following contains spoilers for The Acolyte Episode 3, "Destiny," now streaming on Disney+.
The big twist of The Acolyte's premiere was seeing Amandla Stenberg play two separate characters. One was brought to Coruscant to train as a Jedi Padawan, only to leave Master Sol and the Order over a reluctance to let go of her grief. The other trained under her unknown Sith Master, or possibly an Apprentice, to avenge whatever happened to her coven on the planet Brendok 16 years ago. But what really took place that night?
That's the greater mystery beyond who's killing Jedi. And Episode 3, "Destiny," doesn't reveal the answers or even all the show's cards yet. It's still far too early for that. But the episode does much to deepen the lore and world-building of Star Wars, while also telling a tragic story of family and faith and, most disturbingly, a less than holistic opinion on Jedi orthodoxy.

One of the reasons the world of streaming television can be appreciated is that it allows directors a nice middle ground to play in between their films. Rick Famuyiwa became a certified shepherd of numerous Star Wars shows, Mark Mylod used his success on Succession to get The Menu made, and Scott Frank transitioned from noir master to miniseries icon with projects like The Queen's Gambit and Godless. Now video essayist-turned-overnight genius Kogonada has contributed to this season of The Acolyte. At first, that might seem like an unusual match, until you remember that Kogonada has made one of the best science fiction films of the 21st century with After Yang, a solemn prayer for those who are so indebted to technology that they've forgotten how to love the people they live in the same house with.

The Acolyte, Disney’s latest high-profile Star Wars show, is set well before the the Skywalker era. Here’s our review of the first two episodes.
Disney’s The Acolyte premiered its first two episodes with a lot of expectations on its shoulders. The recent Star Wars shows have been full of ups and downs; The Mandalorian has lost its groove, Obi-Wan Kenobi was disappointing nostalgia bait, but Andor was genuinely excellent.
The Acolyte has promised to be a darker, more violent take on the galaxy far, far away. But based on the first two episodes, showrunner Leslye Headland has so far served up more of the same as what came before.
We’ll do our best to give you a relatively spoiler-free description of the premise. A young Force-user is wreaking havoc in the galaxy, killing Jedi masters. Lee Jung-jae’s Sol investigates along with a former Padawan and,...

It would certainly be unfair to say that all Star Wars stories have the same plot. Andor is not The Last Jedi and The Last Jedi is not The Phantom Menace, and each is more interesting for the new paths they cut across familiar territory. In broad strokes, though, a whole lot of them seem to come down to the same trusty formula: heroic Jedi freedom fighters versus dark-side imperialists, on and on across the galaxy for decades.
In that light, Disney+’s The Acolyte represents an intriguing shakeup. The spinoff, set roughly a century before the events of the films, finds the Jedi not as scrappy underdogs but as entrenched establishment. How precisely they’ve wielded that influence remains murky in the four 40ish-minute episodes sent to critics. This article contains full spoilers for Atlas.
After surviving an attack orchestrated by the rogue synthetic Harlan (Simu Liu), cyber analyst Atlas (Jennifer Lopez) lands in her mech-suit on a mysterious new planet. Because as directed by Brad Peyton and written by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite,...
