Exclusive: Emmy Award nominee Clifton Collins Jr. and Mo McRae have joined the cast of Apple TV+’s limited series Lucky created by Jonathan Tropper. Production is currently underway in Los Angeles.

Based on Marissa Stapley’s bestselling novel and Reese’s Book Club pick of the same name, Lucky stars Anya Taylor-Joy as the eponymous heroine. She is a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.

Collins will portray ‘Dutch’ and McRae will portray ‘Agent Eli Gates.’

The pair joins the previously announced cast members Annette Bening, Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Timothy Olyphant and Drew Starkey.

However, the studio has decided to unleash it later in the year than originally planned.

The absence of marketing for Sony’s upcoming mysterious film, A Big Bold Beautiful Journey, has had plenty of folks suggesting for a while that the film would be delayed. A no-prize reward goes to to them, then, as that has proven to be the case. Directed by Kogonada (After Yang) the film’s an intriguing oddity: the kind of expensive, movie star-driven project that we continue to be thankful to Sony for supporting.

A Big Bold Beautiful Journey was originally set to appear in cinemas a week after Marvel Studios’ Thunderbolts*, but Sony appears to have backed off from that counter-programming strategy. “A Big Beautiful Journey” is taking a journey of its own.

The Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell-led drama, which was originally dated for a May 9 release, is moving to September 19. This will make the film a key bit of counterprogramming in the horror-heavy pre-Halloween corridor. The date change will also give Sony time to make it a true female event movie, something they have experience with (“It Ends With Us” made over $350 million worldwide).

The movie is described as “an original tale of two strangers and the extraordinary emotional journey that connects them.”

“A Big Beautiful Journey” was directed by Kogonada (“After Yang”) and was written by Seth Reiss. It was produced by Dan Friedkin, Bradley Thomas, Ryan Friedkin, Reiss and Youree Henley. Sources close to production tell Variety that a September release was more appealing to the studio, as it’s filled with more horror and male-centered titles, allowing the female event film to stand out.

Exclusive: And Just Like That…‘s Sarita Choudhury has signed with Innovative Artists for representation in all areas.

Choudhury portrays the fan favorite character of Seema Patel in Max’s And Just Like That.. alongside Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis. The third season of the Sex and the City sequel series is expected to be released later this year.

Choudhury’s other television work includes recurring or guest-starring roles in Prime Video’s Fallout, as well as Homeland, Little Fires Everywhere, Jessica Jones, Ramy and Blindspot among others.

The Colin Farrell-helmed hardboiled detective show Sugar wrapped May 17, and it was a mind-warper of an episode. The eight-episode miniseries has taken viewers for quite a ride, starting strong as an interesting contemporary take on the hardboiled genre that utilized the 2020s version of Colin Farrell perfectly as a polyglot, movie-loving private detective. Eventually, however, Sugar took quite a hard pivot that opened up its narrative in a big and shocking way.

Episode 6 signaled a major change of pace for Sugar, and since that reveal, the show has taken on an entirely different tone and meaning. The twist in Sugar elevated what was already a good show into a great one. Sam Pressman has a vision for the production company founded decades ago by his famed producer father, Edward, and it involves opening it up to the people.

Earlier this month at the Toronto International Film Festival, Pressman Film announced the launch of a new development slate raise that will allow the public to directly invest in a wide range of upcoming projects from the company through the Web3 finance platform Republic.

“There have been a number of movies that have attempted to create a network of investors in a public offering, but to have it be a slate of projects, in our minds, allows for there to be many touch points,” Pressman told TheWrap in this week’s “Office With a View.”

Jodie Turner-Smith has joined the cast of the upcoming espionage series “The Agency” at Paramount+ With Showtime.

She will star in the series, which is based on the French series “Le Bureau des Legendes,” alongside previously announced cast members Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright and Richard Gere.

“Jodie Turner-Smith is a force who captivates audiences with her raw, emotional power,” said Nina L. Diaz, president of content and chief creative officer for Showtime/MTV Entertainment Studios & Paramount Media Networks. “We are thrilled she is joining our extraordinary cast alongside Michael Fassbender, Jeffrey Wright and Richard Gere.”

Per the official description, the series “follows Martian (Fassbender), a covert CIA agent, ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station. When the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites. His career, his real identity and his mission are pitted against his heart; hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.

Well, it's happened again. A high-profile franchise project starring women, members of the Lgbtqia community, and/or Poc has been review-bombed by audiences on Rotten Tomatoes, with the most vocally intolerant corners of a sprawling fandom making their voices heard loud and clear.

"Star Wars: The Acolyte" is the latest project on the receiving end of this tactic, with the show's audience score having fallen to 14% as of this writing. At this point, as only the fifth sentence of this article begins to unspool, I imagine a lot of fans are already bracing themselves, ready and waiting to wade into a discussion that's been happening in some form or fashion for a decade at this point. "Hey," they'll say, "I just genuinely think this show/movie sucks, Ok? Don't lump me in with racists and misogynists who go out of their way to give projects like this one star just for the lolz.

A little over five minutes into the third episode of Disney+’s “The Acolyte,” Jodi Turner-Smith’s Mother Aniseya makes a gesture of love. The big twist of The Acolyte's premiere was seeing Amandla Stenberg play two separate characters. One was brought to Coruscant to train as a Jedi Padawan, only to leave Master Sol and the Order over a reluctance to let go of her grief. The other trained under her unknown Sith Master, or possibly an Apprentice, to avenge whatever happened to her coven on the planet Brendok 16 years ago. But what really took place that night?

That's the greater mystery beyond who's killing Jedi. And Episode 3, "Destiny," doesn't reveal the answers or even all the show's cards yet. It's still far too early for that. But the episode does much to deepen the lore and world-building of Star Wars, while also telling a tragic story of family and faith and, most disturbingly, a less than holistic opinion on Jedi orthodoxy.
