Aubrey Plaza has revealed how an audition for Scream 4 made her appear “insane” to Wes Craven, as she went "fully method" in her acting approach. She told Hits Radio the story of how badly she misunderstood the assignment. No stranger to the horror genre, Plaza would go on to play Karen Barclay in the 2019 Child’s Play remake, but it was a potential role in the highly awaited 2011 Scream sequel that she was reflecting on.

Danny DeVito is set to star alongside Aubrey Plaza as evil incarnate in Fxx’s “Little Demon,” an upcoming animated horror sitcom.

Variety reported on Tuesday that the duo are among the show’s voice cast, which will also include Lucy DeVito, Danny’s daughter and a fellow actor.

Per Fxx’s logline, the show follows a reluctant mother (Plaza) 13 years after being impregnated by Devil (Danny DeVito). She and her Antichrist daughter (Lucy DeVito) attempt to live an ordinary life in Delaware, but are constantly thwarted by monstrous forces, including Satan, who yearns for custody of his daughter’s soul.

Reports of the half-hour “Little Demon” series first surfaced in April 2020, shortly before production on the show began.

It's no joke. Chucky is officially off and running. And, most likely, killing. Syfy and franchise creator Don Mancini have announced that the upcoming Child's Play TV show has kicked off production. Filming is now underway on the series, which will take place in the same universe as the long-running horror franchise. Plus, the network has revealed that the show will hit the airwaves this fall, bringing the slasher icon to the small screen for the first time.

The show has been in the works for some time now. It will air on both Syfy and USA Network. It will pick up after the events of 2017's Cult of Chucky. It will not have anything to do with the Child's Play movie reboot that was released by MGM in 2019. Because the rights were split up at one point, there are essentially two competing versions of the franchise going right now.

A fan favorite is returning to the world of Child's Play. Fiona Dourif will be reprising her role as Nica Pierce on the upcoming USA/Syfy series, Chucky. Big news for Don Mancini's upcoming Chucky series, and big trouble for those in the crosshairs of the titular killer doll, as Fiona Dourif will be reprising the role of Nica Pierce in the show. Dourif will join her real-life father, Child's Play legend Brad Dourif, in USA/Syfy's Chucky series having played the role of Nica Pierce first in Curse of Chucky before reprising the role for 2017's Cult of Chucky.

Dourif's character, Nica, took on the former doll in 2013's Curse of Chucky ultimately being sent to a mental asylum for the criminally insane. Nica takes a turn for the worst in the follow-up, Curse of Chucky, becoming a host for Charles Lee Ray's evil spirit, with the movie ending with Nica/Chucky reuniting with Tiffany and the couple driving off for another, blood-soaked adventure.

On September 7, reprint editions of both Ad Nauseam: Newsprint Nightmares from the '70s and '80s and Blood on Black Wax: Horror Soundtracks on Vinyl are getting the deluxe treatment by 1984 Publishing (1984publishing.com), presented by Toronto-based horror periodical Rue Morgue (Rue-Morgue.com).

Michael Gingold's Ad Nauseam is now in its third printing. While initial editions contained newspaper ads solely from the 1980s, this latest version will include an eye-popping 100 additional pages from the 1970s, a decade that rivals the '80s as the most beloved for horror fans. 1970s classics including The Exorcist, The Omen, Jaws, Phantasm, The Amityville Horror, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Suspiria, Carrie, The Rocky Horror Picture Show and many more are now all featured. The book additionally contains a new foreword by director Joe Dante, alongside Gingold's insightful commentary and classic (often hilarious) film reviews.

Devon Sawa has reportedly joined the cast of Chucky, the upcoming TV series that serves as a sequel to the Child's Play movie franchise. Collider reports that Sawa has signed on for a "major role" in the new series, but full details haven't been revealed about his character. The outlet also reports that Sawa will be joined by Zackary Arthur (Transparent), Teo Briones (Ratched), Bjorgvin Arnarson (PEN15), and Alyvia Alyn Lind (The Young and the Restless) as the four young leads.

Per a source with knowledge of the project, the series is not actually considered a reboot but rather a continuation of the original 1988 film and its six sequels, all penned by prolific horror screenwriter Don Mancini. Mancini will also serve as showrunner and executive producer in addition to directing the first episode.

Throughout the 80s, the slasher subgenre of horror hit its commercial and critical peak with iconic entries like A Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th, Child's Play, and many more. While the slasher film has never been a favorite of the film critics (making over 50 on Metacritic is considered an acclaimed slasher film), the style has maintained a popular profile with horror fans, and the sheer bulk of output in the style has led to a wide variety of spins on the simple and common tropes that define the genre.

The 90s saw something of a surge in slasher films, often with a meta twist, which breathed life in the staling genre.

The Texas Alerts system sent out a strange message Friday morning – an Amber Alert for filmdom’s knife-wielding maniac Chucky the doll and his child.

The Amber Alert, typically used in the search for missing or abducted children, listed Chucky from the film Child’s Play as a suspect. The alert described him as a 28-year-old with red, auburn hair, blue eyes, stands at 3’1″, and weighs 16 pounds. He was wearing blue denim overalls with a multi-colored striped long sleeve shirt and wielding a kitchen knife prior to his “disappearance.”

The alert also listed Glen, the son of Chucky who was introduced in the film Seed of Chucky, as an abducted child. He was described as five years old, weighing 6 pounds, standing at 2’3″, and also with red, auburn hair and blue eyes. Glen was described as wearing a blue shirt and black collar prior to his “disappearance.”

Subscribers of the Texas Alert...

The Texas Department of Public Safety accidentally issued an Amber Alert on Friday featuring doll characters from the Child's Play horror movie series. In the alert, Glen Ray, Chucky's plastic son introduced in the wacky sequel Seed of Chucky, is listed as an abducted 5-year-old child. He is described as standing at 2'3" and weighing six pounds, dressed in a "blue shirt with black collar." A picture of Glen from Seed of Chucky was also included.

The "suspect" was named as Chucky from Child's Play, complete with an image of the killer doll. According to the Amber Alert, he is 3'1" tall and 16 pounds, wearing "blue denim overalls with multi-colored striped long sleeve shirt" and "wielding a huge kitchen knife." Along with the Amber Alert descriptions of Glen and Chucky was a number to call, though the number does not actually work.

Yet another monstrously huge blockbuster may be heading straight to streaming. It has come to light that Godzilla Vs Kong is being eyed as a streaming release. The question is, where will the King of the Monsters duke it out with King Kong? Currently, it is between Netflix and HBO Max. Either way, it seems likely that movie lovers will be able to watch the two legendary beasts square off from the comfort of home sometime next year.

According to a new report, Netflix offered somewhere in the neighborhood of $200 million for the streaming rights to Godzilla vs. Kong, which is a co-production between WarnerMedia and Legendary. This was probably appealing since Netflix isn't available in China. That means the studio could still do a theatrical release in the country which would bring in some box office on top of the hefty cash sum. Previous MonsterVerse entries have performed well financially in China.

Exclusive: Nickelodeon has set the Season 2 cast for Are You Afraid of the Dark?, its anthology series reimagined from the 1990s cult hit that fashioned horror stories from kids’ points of view. Bryce Gheisar, Arjun Athalye, Beatrice Kitsos, Malia Baker (The Baby-Sitters Club), Dominic Mariche and Parker Queenan are set as the new Midnight Society kids for the second installment.

In Season 2, the kids tell a terrifying tale about a curse that has been cast over their small seaside town, haunted by an all-new villain named the Shadowman. Produced by Ace Entertainment, Are You Afraid of the Dark? premieres in 2021 on Nickelodeon. You can watch a teaser below.

The killer doll cliche in horror films goes back a lot further than that , in fact it goes all the way back to the 1930s with The Devil-Doll. Since then there have been a myriad of killer doll (or killer toy to be more precise) films – culminating in the late 80s renaissance and films like Child’s Play, Dolls, Puppet Master, Dolly Dearest; hell, even the Silent Night, Deadly Night franchise switched to killer toys for its fifth instalment in 1991.. The idea of dolls and toys coming to life and attacking their owners is one that still instills fear in audiences. If the films are done right that is.

Joe Hill has an excellent idea to remake Maximum Overdrive. Hill admitted that he would be into directing and writing a remake of the 1986 cult classic. The original comedy horror was written and directed by Hill's father, Stephen King, and it was far from a hit at the box office. The screenplay was inspired by and loosely based on King's short story Trucks, which was included in his first collection of short stories, titled Night Shift.

In a new interview with Mick Garris over at Bloody Disgusting, Joe Hill was asked if he would like to get into the world of directing. Without any hesitation, Hill responds, "I would only want to jump into directing if I had a chance to do the reboot of Maximum Overdrive." He added, "If someone offered me the chance to write and direct a relaunch of Maximum Overdrive, I'd jump at that in a second.

It’s fair to say that Stephen King‘s Maximum Overdrive isn’t one of the highlights of the author’s career. The 1986 film is his only directorial effort, and is notable for its bizarre living machines and mix of comedy and horror. Despite the experience working on the movie pretty much putting King off from getting behind the camera ever again, though, his son Joe Hill has now thought up a way of making Maximum Overdrive relevant for 2020.

The original was based on King’s short story Trucks, wherein machines come to life due to what’s shown to be a passing comet in the 1980s picture. Another effort was then made to adapt the material via a 1997 television production, also called Trucks, which similarly left audiences and critics unimpressed. It’s official: Green Lantern is coming to HBO Max as a live-action television series, set to boost a growing lineup of DC Comics-adapting content on the recently-launched streaming service.

The Green Lantern greenlight, as reported by Variety, cements the previously touted television project with an order for 10 one-hour-long episodes. The project last made headlines back in January when HBO Max hyped its presence on the developmental docket during the winter TCAs. The now-confirmed order for the series—set as an ensemble following the Green Lantern Corps—comes with the reveal of Seth Grahame-Smith as showrunner and writer, joined in the latter capacity by a perennial presence in the writer’s rooms of DC shows, Marc Guggenheim, with both set as executive producers.

The series was initially spawned from a lucrative overall deal between Warner Bros. Television and Berlanti Productions, through which eponymous maestro Greg Berlanti will oversee development.

HBO Max will welcome another superhero to its ranks.

Do you like scary movies? Come October, it seems as if everyone is a horror fan, cuddling up for another “spooky season” of thrills, chills, and the surprisingly enduring family classic or two, and a recent look at the viewing numbers and audience preference indicates that Halloween-centric films remain big business during autumn.

Chucky was and still is everyone’s favorite killer doll. The original Child’s Play came out in 1988 and was an instant success, mainly due to Chucky himself. Evil doll films had been made before, but this was the first one to really give one a personality.

After six sequels, a remake was announced but from MGM and Orion, who still owned the rights to the original film. With Chucky being such an iconic character in the genre, showing a new version had fans skeptical. Thankfully, the new Child’s Play remake isn’t the dumpster fire that everyone thought. That being said, it’s not perfect either.

This past weekend, filmmakers David Charbonier and Justin Powell celebrated the world premiere of their first feature, The Boy Behind the Door, which debuted online as part of the 2020 Fantastic Fest celebration (you can read my review Here). Recently, Daily Dead had the opportunity to speak with both Powell and Charbonier about the project, and they discussed the inspiration behind their story for the film, their experiences collaborating with their cast on The Boy Behind the Door, and more.

I would love to hear a little bit about what the initial inspiration was behind this story, in terms of these kids and the things that they have to endure and the friendship that they share. Because obviously, their friendship is really the heart of the story, and a lot of it is hard to watch, but I think ultimately there's a sense of hope because of their connection to each other.

Happy birthday, Mr. Mark Hamill! Not many people make the kind of impact on both cinema and pop culture as Hamill has, thanks to playing both Luke Skywalker in the Star Wars saga and the Joker in various forms of Batman media. Finn Wolfhard’s band the Aubreys shared a hilarious new video for their single “Smoke Bomb,” which features scenes from classic horror films.

Directed by Jeremy Schaulin-Rioux, the clip features the Stranger Things star and his bandmate Malcom Craig appearing in movies that include Jaws, Jurassic Park, The Exorcist, A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Child’s Play, and yes, The Shining. As we’ve seen countless times over the years, you can’t keep a recognizable horror franchise down for too long, unless of course the rights are caught up in legal red tape, which is why we haven’t seen Jason Voorhees for over a decade at this point.

While Halloween may have reignited interest in a property that had been running on fumes for a while, the reaction to the return of another 1980s horror icon was a lot more muted. The Child’s Play remake did manage to turn a profit due to the low $10 million budget, but a worldwide box office haul of $44 million wasn’t exactly anything to write home about. The movie scored decent enough reviews, though, with Mark Hamill drawing widespread praise for yet another impeccable voice performance as murderous doll Chucky, but any talk of a sequel was always going to be dependent on commercial success.

People have often carried a bizarre fascination with dolls, both as a collectible and an object reflecting childhood fears. Consequently, the toy market staple also has a darker side in many peoples memories, with many being able to relate some degree discomfort when among the, occasionally eerie, effigies. This sensation has certainly captured the imagination of horror creators, and stories of evil dolls can be found throughout history across the globe.

As a result, there have been numerous horror films that attempt to bring these toys to life in the most disturbing way possible. Series such as the iconic Child's Play, with its great one liners and premise of a kids toy turning on its owner, brought the killer doll genre into the mainstream.

Child's Play remains one of the most successful horror franchises in Hollywood history. Created by Don Mancini in 1988, the franchise has featured eight films thus far, with the most recent coming in the form of a remake in 2019. The iconic killer doll Chucky has been voiced by Brad Dourif in every iteration except for the remake, which was voiced by Mark Hamill instead.

We are getting a Child's Play TV show next year in the form of Chucky, which is coming to Syfy and USA. Don Mancini, the screenwriter behind the original horror classic and the franchise's creator, is behind bringing the killer doll to the small screen. Now, producer Nick Antosca has shared his praise for the show, saying that it is scary, funny and smart.

Nick Antosca and Don Mancini previously worked together on the series Channel Zero. During a recent interview looking back at the horror anthology series, Antosca was asked about the status of Chucky, which revealed its first teaser trailer over the summer. Exclusive: Chucky is back, but even the murderous doll has been delayed by Covid-19.

Deadline understands that production on the USA Network and Syfy series has been moved to 2021 as a result of the pandemic production shutdown.

The plan was originally to film the series this fall but, due to Covid delays, this will now happen in the new year. It was set to shoot in Toronto.

The drama was always intended to air in 2021, so producers hope that it will still be delivered in time.
