It's hard to imagine this now, considering the stranglehold that superhero films and television series have had on Hollywood over the past decade and a half, but in the early 2000s, developing a show about a superhero -- even a top-tier one like Superman -- was not guaranteed to be a slam dunk. It's a testament to the charming, borderline addictive nature of "Smallville" that it not only existed on the fledgling CW network, but thrived there for 10 seasons from 2001 to 2011.
In telling the story of Clark Kent's (Tom Welling) teen and young adult years growing up in Smallville, the frothy superhero drama introduced audiences to a crop of upcoming actors who made their mark both on "Smallville" and beyond. While some are still acting to this day, others have taken interesting career -- and personal life -- turns over the years that may surprise fans of the show. Here's the main cast of "Smallville,...

Batman & Robin is often considered to be one of DC’s worst films, but years later, some fans have warmed up to it, seeing it as an attempt to try and recapture the campiness of the '60s Adam West era in a more modern setting. Many of the actors, including George Clooney, have since apologized for participating in the film, and it was obvious that many of them didn’t know how to handle Joel Schumacher's more lighthearted take on the material. When it comes to Uma Thurman as Poison Ivy, on the other hand, it’s a much different story. Watching it now, it's clear just how much fun she’s having in the role,...

The Lord of the Rings is one of the most beloved franchises of all time and for good reason. J. R. R. Tolkien fans are nothing if not loyal to many branches of the franchise, from Tolkien's original novels to the Peter Jackson films, and even Prime Video's original series, The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power (2022-present). It's safe to say that The Lord of the Rings is still alive and kicking and isn't likely to go anywhere anytime soon.
That said, Rings of Power has been a bit divisive among fans. While the series has decent critic reviews and solid audience scores, some viewers have taken it upon themselves to nitpick every detail in the series. Everything is under a microscope, from how much the show changes Tolkien's canon, to the fight sequences. While Rings of Power is an overall impressive series, there are still plenty of...

Like with any other job in the world, it's not unusual for television stars to move on and see if the grass is greener somewhere else. However, there are controversial actor exits that single handedly ruined popular TV shows and had everyone -- fans and network executives included -- freaking out about how they could recover from such massive blows. Spoiler alert: They don't. While the series often lurch along like the characters in a George A. Romero film (sometimes even for multiple seasons), the spark fizzles out, leaving weak remnants of what once was magical.
For instance, can anyone say that "Two and a Half Men" was better off without Charlie Sheen'? Sure, the sitcom tried to replace him with a big-name star in the form of Ashton Kutcher, but finding the laughter on this show from the ninth season onward required the help of a private investigator.

DC has a long history of animated adaptations. They range from TV shows to full-length feature films and even popular video game franchises. The DC Universe plans to add more animated shows, including the recent Creature Commandos. Unfortunately, most of its animated features focus entirely on either Batman or Superman.
While Batman and Superman are iconic figures, finding any DC content that does not revolve around them is a challenge. Wonder Woman has a few specials, but most characters struggle to stand out by themselves. Thankfully, some DC animated movies focus on characters besides the two legendary heroes.

Before James Gun rebooted all of DC’s media, the Arrowverse was the staple shared continuity of DC’s super heroes on tv. The series of connected tv shows, which began when Arrow premiered on the CW back in 2012, was arguably bigger and definitely better than any of Snyder’s Dceu films or projects.
For a long time, the shared TV shows allowed heroes such as Green Arrow and The Flash to interact and share a space on screen, with their yearly crossovers consistently growing in scale, you always had a guarantee of a big superhero team up. It wasn’t until the Elsewords crossover event that we got to see two of the big Justice League members interact however, and - if you thought you were freaking out - apparently so were the stars themselves.

Arrow stars Emily Bett Rickards and David Ramsey have revealed their favorite Arrowverse crossover. Starring Stephen Amell as Oliver Queen/Green Arrow, The CW series spawned a universe of interconnected shows, including The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Batwoman, with Supergirl and Black Lightning eventually joining the fold.
Rickards and Ramsey were at Megacon, where the pair responded to Cbr's question regarding which show they most enjoyed crossing over with the most. "I liked going to The Flash because they were so happy over there," Rickards said. Ramsey discussed the difficult logistics and problems with tonality that came with making The Flash and Arrow crossovers happen but still enjoyed them. He especially enjoyed seeing Amell in Grant Gustin's Flash suit. "They were logistical nightmares," he said. "The Flash was on the other side of the wall and couldn't be more different. It was bright and had milkshakes. Stephen in the Flash suit.

Superman & Lois star Elizabeth Tulloch recently revealed there was a planned crossover with the Arrowverse franchise. It never materialized as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic.

The DC Legends of Tomorrow cast would all love to return one day, even if it's in a different universe.
Reassembling at a Megacon Orlando panel, Legends actor Caity Lotz, Brandon Routh, Arthur Darvill, and Matt Ryan were all asked what characters they'd like to play if James Gunn ever cast them in the Dcu timeline. In response, Lotz and Darvill selected Catwoman and Alfred Pennyworth, respectively, while Routh chose Superman, having previously played him in Superman Returns and reprised his role in Crisis on Infinite Earths alongside his Arrowverse performance as Ray Palmer/the Atom. Ryan, meanwhile, selected John Constantine, the role he played for nearly a decade across NBC's short-lived Constantine series, the Arrowverse, and multiple animated films, including the DC Animated Movie Universe's three-part Crisis adaptation.

Quick Links The Arrowverse Series Had 'Filler' Episodes Because Making Television Is Hard Why Creature Commandos Season 1 Could Feel Like a Half-Finished TV Series Shortened Seasons Can Leave Viewers With the Wrong Kind of Lingering Questions Should a Television Series Have a Longer or Shorter Season to Tell a Story?
The following contains light spoilers from Creature Commandos Season 1, now streaming on Max.
The first DC Universe animated series, Creature Commandos, is the start of a new direction for the oldest collection of comic book characters. It also marks the beginning of a brand-new era of TV series inspired by DC Comics. However, with its short season, Creature Commandos risks making the opposite mistake fans claimed the Arrowverse on The CW often made. Not counting title and credit sequences, each episode of Creature Commandos usually runs for about 20 minutes. While this is normal for animation, it's not a lot of...

The CW's epic run with DC television series sadly reached its two-decade-long run with the finale of Superman & Lois, but there's no doubt that it's left behind quite an impressive legacy. It not only gave DC fans shows like Smallville, but it also became one of the first major television franchises to successfully run more than three interconnected shows at the same time with the Arrowverse. Consisting of Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, Supergirl, Batwoman, and others, the Arrowverse offered far more opportunities for storytelling that was both connected and engaging for over a decade in more ways than the cinematic DC Extended Universe ever did in that same amount of time. Even if not every one of these shows managed to keep the same level of intrigue as the others, it's impossible to deny that each of them had some truly memorable characters and stories. Within these...

What Happens At The End Of Dune: Prophecy? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
The HBO prequel series Dune: Prophecy takes place a thousand generations before the Dune films. It continues the epic universe Denis Villeneuve created with the earliest beginnings of the Bene Gesserit. The show utilizes the book Dune Sisterhood and has since made many storylines, some ending in the season 1 finale. The first season concluded with Keiran Atreides fleeing the capital with Princess Ynez.
The Ending Of Dune: Prophecy Season 1
Dune: Prophecy season 1 closed on a thrilling cliffhanger, especially attached to Valya Harkonnen. She even got remotely interested in Arrakis due to a fight between a sandworm and Desmond Hart. An unknown entity planted a Thinking Machine within Desmond meant to distribute the Omnius Plague. Fear triggered the plague, killing Sister Kasha and Pruwet Richese and spreading across the Sisterhood to inflict nightmares.

Why Did Ruby Rose Stepped Down From Her Batwoman Role? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
In 2020, CW fans were left scratching their heads when Ruby Rose announced she was stepping away from her lead role in Batwoman. Yes, Batwoman—as in the titular superhero she brought to life. The news dropped right after the season 1 finale, leaving viewers wondering why Ruby would abandon the cape and cowl just as Gotham’s story was heating up?
The answer was more straightforward—and messier—than expected. According to reports from Variety, it wasn’t health concerns (despite Ruby’s previous back injury) or online harassment (she’d already weathered that storm as a lesbian actress portraying a lesbian superhero). Instead, it all boiled down to this: the grueling schedule.
As the lead in a CW series, Ruby Rose faced long hours, which apparently created “friction on set.” Tack on the fact that Batwoman season 1 had a whopping 20 episodes,...

Quick Links How Jefferson Pierce and Clark Kent Aren't the Same Kind of Fathers How Both Series Handled the Next Generation of Superpowers How Lynn Stewart and Lois Lane Approached Being a Superhero Partner
The following contains spoilers from Superman & Lois Season 4, now streaming on The CW App.
One reason fans loved Superman & Lois is because it was the first time Clark Kent and Lois Lane were parents in live-action. While it came with all the super-heroics fans expect from the Man of Steel, the show was more about balancing those struggles with the trials of raising a family. However, Superman & Lois wasn't the first DC series to tell that kind of story, because The CW's Black Lightning did it first, with an extra layer of social commentary.
The finale of Superman & Lois didn't just end the series, but it also brought a two-decade run of DC television to a close.

Quick Links What Would a Lois Lane Spin-Off of Smallville Have Looked Like? Other Smallville Spin-Offs Were Also Considered By The CW Why Was The Development of Smallville's Lois Lane Spin-Off Canceled?
The CW's long run with DC media has sadly come to an end with the recent conclusion of Superman and Lois. Considering that it all began with the premiere of the Superman origin series, Smallville, back in 2001, it couldn't have been any more fitting for the network to end it all with the Man of Steel. For over two decades, Smallville has been rightfully hailed as one of the best and most influential DC shows ever. Many of its fans may not be aware, however, that the show's creators, Alfred Gough and Marc Millar, initially conceived the series as a completely different origin story for a different character. Most people probably wouldn't have ever expected a series...

The CW's DC adventures began in 2012 with Arrow and ran for over a decade, finally ending the Arrowverse in a spectacular fashion in 2023. While remnants of tangentially-connected stories also came to a close with the recent finale of Superman & Lois, the main Arrowverse timeline was given a proper conclusion previously with a finale to The Flash that tied everything up. Still, given the interest in those series, and in the characters involved, it seems surprising to some that the Arrowverse is officially over. This ending was contributed to by several factors.
While Superman & Lois' cancelation appears more linked to the changing focuses of The CW and the launch of the new Dcu, where different projects will be more aligned between both television and movies, the bulk of the focal Arrowverse and its best shows ended for other reasons. Shows that included Arrow, The Flash, Batwoman, and DC's Legends of Tomorrow,...

It's hard to believe that it has now been three years since Supergirl came to an end. The Girl of Steel teamed up with her allies from the past and present (and even future) to take on the nefarious team of Lex Luthor and Nyxly in what was an epic two-part finale designed to close out not just the sixth season but the show's overarching story. It succeeded, bringing a close to the Arrowverse series in a heartfelt manner that had all of its fans feeling emotional.
The show's conclusion marked the beginning of the end of the DC TV shows on The CW, and it all led to this moment as the last of them, Supergirl spinoff Superman and Lois, just recently wrapped up. Though some Supergirl stars, particularly Tyler Hoechlin, Elizabeth "Bitsie" Tulloch, and Jenna Dewan, all reprised their roles, the Girl of Steel herself, Melissa Benoist, never...

What began with "Arrow" and blossomed into a massive multiverse of DC TV shows is now a thing of the past. With Superman & Lois ending its four-season run earlier this week, fans have been heaping the series finale with praise while also mourning the end of the Arrowverse, which once played a huge role in the success of The CW. As it turns out, however, fans aren't the only runs reflecting in the wake of the finale as Jon Cryer, who joined the Arrowverse via Supergirl as Lex Luthor, is speaking out as well, and a big regret of his is not appearing on the recently concluded fan-favorite series.
During an interview with Kj Today, Cryer looked back at his contributions to the Arrowverse, and shared that his biggest regret was actually that he didn't get to appear in Superman & Lois. Cryer said, "The whole Arrowverse was just one for the nerds. I loved being a nerd. I loved reveling in it. We got into the deepest, darkest recesses of DC lore.

[This story contains spoilers for the series finale of Superman & Lois.]
The series finale of Superman & Lois aired Monday night on The CW. It marked not just the end of the show’s four-season run, but also an entire programming philosophy at the network.
Superman & Lois was the last series based on DC Comics characters to air at the network. It was also the last connection to The CW’s Arrowverse (even if it wasn’t technically part of the main continuity of that franchise), which defined the 2010s for the network and became one of the more successful multi-show franchises in TV history.
The ending of Superman & Lois, which — spoiler alert — flashes forward several decades to show the end of its title characters’ (Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch) lives, precludes any continuation of the show elsewhere — as do new regimes at both The CW and DC parent Warner Bros. Discovery, which both have very different...

This shared universe, which began with Arrow in 2012 and expanded to include several other hit series, has officially ended. For over a decade, the Arrowverse brought DC Comics’ heroes to life on the small screen, redefining superhero storytelling on network television.

Although set in a different reality from the Arrowverse, ‘Superman & Lois’ is easily the best CW superhero show in terms of quality writing. The show did have its ups and downs, especially last year.
After Nexstar acquired CW and the network was bound to be restructured, ‘Superman & Lois’ survived the onslaught during which many shows were canceled. This led to some of the main cast being let go, fewer writers and the episode count was slashed compared to previous seasons.
Still, the show managed to wrap up its story in the 4th season which is the show’s last, originally the show was supposed to get 7 seasons (at least.)
Speaking at a panel during the San Francisco Fan Expo ‘Superman and Lois’ stars discussed plans for the show that will sadly never come to fruition. But, first, the show’s to larger Arrowverse.

Superman & Lois will conclude with tonight's season 4 finale, and the hope now is that The CW series will deliver a satisfying ending. Tyler Hoechlin and Bitsie Tulloch first played Clark Kent and Lois Lane in the Arrowverse before Crisis on Infinite Earths sent them to their own reality.
There, they had two teenage sons and were no longer part of a world inhabited by superheroes like The Flash and Supergirl. That received something of a mixed response from fans, though it allowed the series to recast several roles, with Lex Luthor and Jimmy Olsen among the most noteworthy.
Appearing at the San Francisco Fan Expo this weekend, Superman & Lois showrunner Todd Helbing reiterated that these versions of the characters are doppelgängers of the Arrowverse versions.
Weighing in on what that means for the show, Hoechlin said he "kind of got [his] biggest wishes" with season 4 thanks to the inclusion of Luthor and Doomsday,...

It's rather astounding to think just how big the Arrowverse once was. It grew from a single show that turned Green Arrow into Batman, and then became an expansive connected universe that was doing on TV what the Marvel Cinematic Universe was doing on film — only with way more crossovers.
Toward the end of the Arrowverse, we saw the launch of "Batwoman," a great show that featured one of DC's earliest lesbian superhero protagonists. The show followed Kate Kane, cousin of Bruce Wayne, who picks up the mantle of the Caped Crusader after Bruce's disappearance. But that was the first season; after that, Kate was replaced as the protagonist and the show cast a new lead. Initially, it was reported that actor Ruby Rose had departed from the show of her own will, on friendly terms with the studio, just a week after the first season wrapped up.

Superman Actor Tyler Hoechlin Debuted in a 22-Year-Old Comic Book Movie That's Coming to Prime Video
Superman & Lois star Tyler Hoechlin's debut acting role will soon be available to watch on Prime Video. Road to Perdition, the 2002 film adapted from the DC Comics of the same name, is a crime drama with an all-star cast.
Tom Hanks stars as Michael Sullivan in Road to Perdition, with Hoechlin playing the role of his son, Michael Sullivan Jr. The film is set in 1931 during the Great Depression, as a mob enforcer and his son get vengeance against another mobster who murdered the rest of their family. Hanks' character works for the Irish mob boss John Rooney (played by Paul Newman in his final live-action theatrical film role). Rooney raised Sullivan Sr. as his own child after he was orphaned, causing Rooney's own biological son Connor (Daniel Craig) to be jealous of the bond the two share.
