This year, Kaitlyn Dever is starring on two TV shows, playing a key supporting role on a popular drama series and portraying a fraudster on a Netflix limited series. If you're feeling déjà vu, there's good reason. In 2022, Julia Garner was in the same boat, and if history repeats, Dever could also mimic Garner's Emmy trajectory.
Garner scored double Emmy nominations for Best Drama Supporting Actress for Ozark and Best Limited/TV Movie Actress for Inventing Anna. The former was no surprise since she had already won twice for her fan-favorite portrayal of Ruth Langmore, and this was for Ozark's fourth and final season, in which Garner had a meaty episode. The latter bid was also expected by nomination morning — she was in fourth place in the Gold Derby odds — as the actress drew praise for her committed turn as con artist Anna Sorokin/Anna Delvey, with the daffiest of accents,...

Is there room for two shows about murders inside a building at the Emmys? Netflix's The Residence stars Uzo Aduba as Cordelia Cupp, the world's greatest detective who's called to solve a murder at the White House. The murder mystery premiered on Thursday with all eight episodes and is entering in comedy at the Emmys. So which categories does it stand the best shot at cracking?
Best Comedy Actress
Aduba could wind up with the only Emmy nomination for The Residence and no one would be shocked. An Emmy darling, she's a five-time nominee with three wins, two for Orange Is the New Black and one for Mrs. America (Best Limited/TV Movie Supporting Actress in 2020). The Orange Is the New Black victories made her the second person after Ed Asner to win comedy and drama Emmys for the same role. She's currently in ninth place in the Gold Derby odds,...

Ambition, lies, and scandals - these true crime dramas prove reality is wilder than fiction.
True crime always pulls people in - especially when it involves influencers, celebrities, and a scandal so wild it sounds like fiction. That’s exactly why “Apple Cider Vinegar” has people hooked. The six-part Netflix series dives into the unbelievable true story of Belle Gibson, the wellness influencer who built an empire on a lie. She claimed to have cured her cancer through natural remedies, gaining millions of devoted followers — until the truth came crashing down. With an 80% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear that we all can’t get enough of this kind of jaw-dropping tale of deception, greed, and the dark side of internet fame.
And if “Apple Cider Vinegar” left you wanting more, you’re in luck. There are plenty of other binge-worthy series that explore real-life scams, con artists, and high-profile frauds.

When a doctor sits you down and says, "You have cancer," there's no way of predicting how your body and mind will respond. Getting the answer to an unthinkable question instantly opens the floodgates to hundreds of new questions you'd never think you'd have to ask yourself. There are obvious, big questions like "How am I going to tell my grandma that I might not outlive her?" But there are also smaller questions like, "What is my last meal going to be before cancer treatment screws up my tastebuds?" Few moments in life are more isolating, confusing, and threatening than hearing a doctor drop The Big C, no matter how strong your support system is. My parents were in the room with me when I got the confirmation. My dad — a Joe Pesci-looking, working-class, Chicago-Italian tough guy — fell out of his chair.

Yes, my friends, this is about the Tgit television era, which held us in a chokehold every Thursday night.
No one and nothing is doing it the way Shonda Rhimes did during the height of ABC’s Thursday night programming, which saw Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder blowing our minds during a full three-hour block.
Sure, other television juggernauts have tried to come close, but broadcast television desperately needs a new Shonda Rhimes.
(ABC) Broadcast TV is on the Frontlines for Great Programming
We’re in a streaming age, and most people prefer to tune into their streamer of choice and binge-watch whatever latest series people shared on social media for all three seconds.
And there’s nothing wrong with that at all.

If you’re a new fan of Apple Cider Vinegar, there are a few shows like it to check out on streaming!
Apple Cider Vinegar is the latest in what’s become a TV trend. This Netflix series is based on the true story of Belle Gibson (Kaitlyn Dever), an Australian wellness guru who became a sensation in the early 2010s. Gibson claimed that a special diet had allowed her to cure her terminal brain cancer, becoming a best-selling author and her own media empire.
Then came the truth that Belle never had cancer and lied about so much in her life. The series paints a fascinating picture of Belle’s rise and fall from the top and how and why she crafted this life of deception.
It’s a fascinating story, but it’s hardly the only show of its kind. There’s been a trend in shows about such scammers,...

Netflix's Apple Cider Vinegar is the latest of several true crime con stories (like Inventing Anna) and audiences are wondering exactly how much of the series is factual.
Apple Cider Vinegar brings to the screen the harrowing story of how Australian wellness influencer Belle Gibson deceived the world. The dramatized biopic stars Kaitlyn Dever (who will soon be seen in The Last of Us Season 2) as Gibson, alongside Alycia Debnam-Carey, Aisha Dee, and Ashley Zukerman.
It's repeated throughout Apple Cider Vinegar that the series is a "true-ish story based on a lie," so exactly how much of the story is grounded in fact?

Netflix's Apple Cider Vinegar tells the story of Australian wellness influencer Belle Gibson. But the series' ending leaves audiences unclear on what happened to her after she fooled the world.
Similar to series like Baby Reindeer or Inventing Anna, Apple Cider Vinegar retells a wild real-life story (although the series is upfront about it being a "true-ish story based on a lie").
Much of the series is based on real-life events, pulled together from Gibson's publicized life, interviews she gave, and the book The Woman Who Fooled the World written by Beau Donelly and Nick Toscano.

Netflix’s new scripted series Apple Cider Vinegar stars Katilyn Dever (Booksmart) as Belle Gibson, an Australian cancer survivor who turns her story — and health-conscious recipes — into an online wellness empire. It’s a glittery, social media-studded addition to the streaming services’ breadth of scammer stories, like Inventing Anna and Dirty John, both of which rely on a key detail for their success: They’re based on a true story. And Apple Cider Vinegar is no different.

A few weeks before the release of Netflix’s “Apple Cider Vinegar,” an influencer friend of a friend shared a video. She’s barely made up or filtered, talking to camera about how social media was starting to feel “unnatural” to her; a space where people come to share highlights and recipes and products — plus the most horrific news headlines you’ve read in your life — and a platform that she was no longer sure how to use.
It’s a valid critique and concern, no question — but not a new one. “Apple Cider Vinegar” tells of the seedy underbelly of early-days Instagram influencers from more than a decade ago; all that has changed now, it would seem, is their proliferation.
The series zeroes in on a shiny corner of wellness instagram from approximately 2013 to 2015. Milla Blake (Alycia Debnam-Carey) is a gains fame by battling epithelioid sarcoma with clean foods,...

Netflix’s Apple Cider Vinegar could not have come at a better time than now. The series tells the “true story based on a lie” about wellness guru Belle Gibson and her downfall in a 6-parter with a lot of promise. From her alleged childhood trauma to her many lies and how she built connections with companies like Apple over the years, we get a glimpse at it all. The show reminds us in every episode that Belle hasn’t been paid to tell her story, but I have a feeling she’s going to get paid all the attention she’s been missing over the last few years. The series is entertaining and fast-paced, leaving you wondering what’s going to happen next, but in the end, it seems slightly incomplete with no proper conclusion. I suppose that’s what you get with real life, but it also makes...

Netflix released its latest addictive limited series Apple Cider Vinegar on Feb. 6, and it's a show that's going to have you seriously hooked and on the edge of your seat. Based on the true-ish story of a real wellness influencer's actual lie, Kaitlyn Dever stars as Belle Gibson, a social media scammer whose falls comes almost as quickly as her rise.
When Belle claims that she's managing her terminal brain cancer diagnosis, as well as other diagnoses, without the help of traditional medicine and only nutrition and alternative wellness methods, she sees her empire take shape with The Whole Pantry. An app, a cookbook, a large Instagram following, all taking over at the same time as fellow cancer survivor and wellness influencer Milla Blake (Alycia Debnam-Carey). Their rivalry sets the stage for Belle's downfall.

The Fantastic Four are known are Marvel’s “First Family” but this summer, they will technically be newbies to the MCU. Of course, we’re using that term very loosely.
As the nickname denotes, the characters are true Marvel icons and the actors playing the core four are anything but newbies, each starring in massive projects before now. But more on that momentarily. January has finally ended, which means there's a whole new month of television shows to enjoy on streaming services. While many of the most popular shows of the moment continue airing new episodes weekly, February 2025 brings along with it a fresh crop of new releases. It might be a much shorter month, but that doesn't mean there's fewer shows to binge-watch!
The first week of February 2025 happens to be a pretty busy one, with Netflix dropping two highly anticipated series, including the based on a true-ish story miniseries Apple Cider Vinegar and the latest season of the fan-favorite romantic drama series Sweet Magnolias. On top of those two surefire Netflix hits, Prime Video and Tubi both debut new comedies you have to check out.

After an incredible month of Netflix new releases in January 2025, it's finally time to say goodbye to January and welcome a brand new month. I think we can all agree that it's time! Luckily, the streamer recognizes our collective need to get out of the current month and dive into some of the best new shows they have to offer in February.
In January, Netflix had some of the biggest releases of all the streaming platforms, with the amazing run from Missing You all the way to the back-to-back action-packed releases of The Night Agent and The Recruit’s second seasons. American Primeval and Xo, Kitty season 2 were also big hits setting the stage for an excellent year on Netflix.
Keeping up the momentum, February 2025 boasts even more great shows, including Love is Blind season 8, Surviving Black Hawk Down, and American Murder: Gabby Petito for the unscripted watchers. As for the scripted series,...

A secluded family retreat to a remote farmhouse quickly descends into terror in this fresh take on the Wolf Man horror classic. Initially a peaceful escape, the setting becomes a nightmare as a mysterious predator begins its hunt, with eerie howls echoing through the night. The true horror, however, emerges from within the family when the father, played by Christopher Abbott, undergoes a shocking transformation into a beast. Abbott’s intense performance, enhanced by detailed prosthetic makeup, vividly portrays his character’s descent into madness. His dedication to the role left co-star Julia Garner, an Emmy winner known for Ozark and Inventing Anna, deeply impressed. Even the most versatile actors have idiosyncratic quirks or behaviors that make them recognizable across their roles, and for Julia Garner, that is her somewhat expressionless approach to her performances. In Inventing Anna, this made her titular character calculating and her subsequent breakdowns jolting, while in Ozark, she ensures the guarded and foul-mouthed Ruth Langmore is not someone we want to mess with.

Many fans are unhappy with The Fantastic Four: First Steps featuring a female Silver Surfer. However, the movie is set in an alternate reality, with a completely different character, Shalla-Bal, serving as Galactus' Herald instead of Norrin Rad (which was also the case in the Earth X comic book).
Doing the rounds to promote Wolf Man, Julia Garner spoke with Who What Wear and explained why she decided to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Going into the Marvel space was a big interest," she tells the site. "I feel like what a lot of actors don't value enough is trying to reach every kind of audience. I think that's really important. I'd be crazy to expect that everybody is going to watch Inventing Anna or Ozark or The Assistant. But to reach all kinds of people and build fans from everywhere? I was really excited to step into that universe.

Netflix's 2022 limited series Inventing Anna is not only one of the streaming giant's best shows but also one of its biggest successes. Created by Shonda Rhimes, the series follows the fascinating true story of Anna Delvey aka Anna Sorokin (Julia Garner), a con artist who infiltrated New York City's high society by pretending to be a German heiress. Over nine episodes, Anna not only uses her fake identity to gain access to NYC's most exclusive events but scams friends out thousands of dollars, and even attempts to secure a $40 million loan to start her own elite social club.
The series was based on the New York Magazine article, "How Anna Delvey Tricked New York's Party People," by Jessica Pressler. While the thrust of Inventing Anna follows a journalist, played by Anna Chlumsky, as she tries to crack the Anna Delvey story and eventually interview her in prison, the journalist's...

When you’re gearing up for your debut in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the last thing you want is to leave fans guessing more than a Rubik’s Cube on a bad day. But when Julia Garner, the talented actress stepping into the shoes of Shalla-Bal, a female version of the Silver Surfer, was asked about her role in Fantastic Four: First Steps, her answer didn’t exactly scream clarity.

It was only a matter of time before fans of the MCU and Fantastic Four franchise started to speculate about how she would fit into the cosmic drama. However, instead of offering a clear, sharp picture of her role, Garner has decided to keep her cards close to her chest—and that’s led to a whole lot of confusion.

Julia Garner, celebrated for her role in Ozark, is set to portray Shalla-Bal, a version of the Silver Surfer, in Marvel’s upcoming film The Fantastic Four: First Steps. This is old news, but the excitement related to this casting is still here, which is why this is a topic that we really wanted to discuss.
In a recent interview promoting her film Wolf Man, Garner expressed enthusiasm about her new role, humorously noting that she assumes the character will be ‘really shiny’ based on previous appearances and comic books.
She also revealed how she felt working on the film:

Possibly as a response to the recent leaks and/or an attempt to build more hype and excitement in the run-up to the movie's release later this month, Universal has shared a clip from Wolf Man which spotlights pretty much the entire transformation Blake (Christopher Abbott) will undergo in the final act.
Previous trailers and TV spots have only shown brief glimpses of the titular beast, but we get a great look at the creature design here as Blake changes into a human/animal hybrid that's definitely more man than wolf.
There's still a chance this isn't the Wolfman's final form, but it looks like Blake is going to spend quite a bit of time as this reimagined take on the classic monster.
If you'd rather not know how the werewolf is going to look before seeing the movie, here's your spoiler warning.

The first press screenings for Wolf Man took place last night, and the social media reactions have been very positive so far.
Although a lot of horror fans were disappointed by the creature design (of both the first werewolf and the monster Christopher Abbott's Blake transforms into) in Blumhouse/Universal's reboot, this doesn't seem to have been an issue for the majority of critics.
Overall, it sounds like director Leigh Whannell has delivered a worthy follow-up to 2020's acclaimed The Invisible Man with a terrifying, gruesome, and surprisingly emotional film.
It's always worth keeping in mind that these initial reactions do tend to be quite effusive, but we haven't come across a single negative post, which is usually a pretty good sign.
Have a read through the reactions below, and we'll continue to update as more come in.

Our first look at what was assumed to be the titular Wolfman via an actor in a costume at Universal Orlando's Halloween Horror Nights was met with a lot of backlash, but the most recent trailer appeared to confirm that this will be the creature responsible for the initial attack, leaving Christopher Abbott's Blake to change into a different beast altogether.
Whannell addressed the negative response during an interview with NME.
“The marketing department for a movie is so huge,” he said, “it’s really impossible to keep tabs on every single thing. So when something comes out that maybe the internet decides they don’t like, the only thing I can think is: ‘Well,...

Shondaland's Fourth Series On Netflix Get First-Look Images With Orange Is The New Black & MCU Stars
Netflix has provided a first look at The Residence, which will be Shondaland's fourth series to debut on the streaming service. Shondaland's previous Netflix shows include Bridgerton, Inventing Anna, and Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. Instead of being a historical romance like Bridgerton and Queen Charlotte, or a drama like Inventing Anna, The Residence will be a comedic whodunnit that takes place at the White House and involves the eccentric staff there.
On X (formerly Twitter), Netflix has shared a first-look image of Orange is the New Black's Uzo Aduba and the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Randall Park in The Residence. Aduba plays the whodunnit's detective, Cordelia Cupp, while Park portrays FBI agent Edwin Park. The cast also includes Breaking Bad's Giancarlo Esposito as A.B. Wynter, the White House's Chief Usher, and This Is Us' Susan Kelechi Watson as Jasmine Haney, the White House Assistant Usher. The series...

There hasn’t been this much ado about “nothing” since Seinfeld was on the air. Despite at least one report that Anna Delvey, who was ejected in Week 2 of Dancing With the Stars Season 33 would not be returning for last night’s finale, the subject of the Netflix series Inventing Anna did in fact make an appearance. She even danced to the Whitney Houston Bodyguard song “I Have Nothing,” a play on her viral quip that she’d learned “nothing” from her time on the show when leaving. “I don’t know who was spreading those rumors,” Delvey told TV Insider when asked about a report that she would not be at the finale. “Honestly, I didn’t know if you were coming back either,” Ezra Sosa, Delvy’s pro partner, candidly told her. As for the “I Have Nothing” routine, her pro partner, Sosa, says, “That was a brilliant...

This story contains spoilers for the Nov. 26 episode of “Dancing With the Stars”
In Tuesday night’s Season 33 finale of “Dancing With the Stars,” the five final couples competed for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy with a “redemption” dance assigned by the judges in which they tackled a style they had previously gotten wrong.
The second round featured several eye-popping freestyle routines, including the showstopper of Chandler Kinney and Brandon Armstrong — the first Black duo in the finale — staging a multi-decade tribute to renowned African-American dancers like the Nicholas Brothers that had Carrie Ann Inaba saying, “You’ve changed the future for people to come!” While Kinney seemed a shoo-in to take home the top prize, she shockingly ended in third place.
And the winner of Season 33 was “The Bachelor” star Joey Graziadei and partner Jenna Johnson, with Olympian Ilona Maher and her partner Alan Bersten taking second. Super Bowl...
