Last week's episode of Surface season 2, episode 4, "Legacy," left us with a plot twist. I'll be honest, it's not the most original. But, things are starting to get a bit more exciting finally, so I'll take it. Season 2 episode 5, "Daybreak," sees Sophie/Tess and James team up while the messy Huntley family, or most of them at least, bring some secrets to light. Here's our review of the episode on Apple TV+. Spoilers Below.

After the revelation and Sophie/Tess putting the pieces together, of course she does what she does best and does her disappearing act. Tess leaves the country estate without saying goodbye to Eliza. And once again this girl is all sad over her former friend and sister, unbeknownst to her. I'm sorry but there's literally nothing appealing about the Eliza character. She's been the same since meeting her in the first episode of the season.

Surface Season 2, Episode 5, "Daybreak" pays off the massive revelation that ended Episode 4... sort of. The entire episode revolves around what fans learned about Sophie Ellis' history, as that information spills out to the other characters. The majority of the plot is people finding out and then reacting to that surprise. That creates an awful lot of suspense, even if it occasionally seems like the show is reaching to create more drama than it needs to.

"Daybreak" picks up the morning after Episode 4. Sophie disappears from the Huntley estate and receives a call from her estranged husband Mark Ellis, who catches her in a vulnerable moment. Alright, last week's episode of Surface, season 2 episode 4, "Legacy," finally saw Eliza and Sophie/Tess most likely put their dramatic misunderstanding aside and move on, while also delivering a cliffhanger. Exclusive: Netflix’s popular romantic drama Virgin River has cast Sara Canning (The Vampire Diaries) and Cody Kearsley (Riverdale) in recurring roles for the upcoming seventh season, which has begun production, with Deadline able to share two behind the scenes images from the set in Vancouver featuring most main cast members, including stars Alexandra Breckenridge and Martin Henderson (You can see them below). “Words of War,” the political thriller executive produced by Sean Penn, will be released in theaters on May 2.

Rolling Pictures and Decal announced the release date along with an official poster. Directed by James Strong, the film is also executive produced by Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-14).

Filming is coming to an end on one of two major new shows from the Stranger Things creator’s production company, Upside Down Pictures.

The Boroughs, a new sci-fi series announced in 2023, began production in September 2024 and stars Alfred Molina, Geena Davis, Alfre Woodard, Denis O’Hare, Clarke Peters, and Bill Pullman. Jeffrey Addiss and Will Matthews serve as showrunners. The show occurs in a retirement community in the New Mexico desert, and an unlikely band of heroes battle untold evil.

Spin Master Entertainment has tapped Brad Peyton to write, direct and produce a live action movie based on the popular Bakugan toy line earlier turned into an anime adventure TV series.

Peyton and Lindsay Harbert will collaborate on a screenplay based on the global franchise set around a Japanese anime show and a strategic game that uses metal cards and magnetic, spring-loaded miniature figures that transform from marblelike balls into toy monsters.

Peyton’s credits include directing and producing Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez and Simu Liu for Netflix, helming Rampage, the Dwayne Johnson-starrer that earned $428 million worldwide and he directed San Andreas, which also starred Johnson and earned $475 million in worldwide takings.

In TV, Peyton co-created Daybreak for Netflix, and directed Frontier, starring Jason Momoa, also for Netflix.

Exclusive: Spin Master Corp. is developing a live-action Bakugan feature film, with San Andres and Atlas filmmaker Brad Peyton attached to direct, write and produce.

Peyton and Lindsay Harbert are teaming with Spin Master Entertainment on the development of the screenplay based on the $1 billion-plus-selling toy line and global anime franchise.

Launched in 2007, Bakugan was anchored by a successful toy line and spanned anime adventure series, digital content and a popular card game. Spin Master Entertainment has co-produced nearly 300 Bakugan episodes that have aired around the world. The toys are available in 100 countries.

The future of the Battlestar Galactica franchise is uncertain, with Sam Esmail’s reimagined series with Peacock being aborted before it could launch. When Battlestar Galactica aired its series finale "Daybreak" in 2009, it sparked heated debates among fans and critics alike. While much of the series got rapturous praise for its engaging storytelling, complex characters, and philosophical themes, the Galactica finale was polarizing. Pubg is probably one of the most popular gaming titles of all time. Its adrenaline-rushing gameplay, stunning visuals, and enthralling battle royale experience had made the game reach the summit. "Yellowstone" announced itself as a show that wasn't afraid to kill off main characters with its 2018 pilot episode "Daybreak." In that episode, we're introduced to Kevin Costner's John Dutton III, owner of the Yellowstone ranch in Montana, and his family. But by the end of the pilot we'd already seen two family members kick the bucket — most notably John's eldest son Lee Dutton (Dave Annable), whose fate in "Yellowstone" started the series on a tragic note and set the story of the show in motion.

Across a nearly 20-year career, Flying Lotus has built up quite the resume: six albums, dozens of film scores, high profile collaborations, and apparently, two iPhone ringtones that have been on devices since the 2019 launch of iOS 13.

The contributions were confirmed by the Apple podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz, which takes a deep dive into recognizable and ubiquitous sounds and breaks them down note by note. Their latest episode focuses on “The Sounds of Apple” and follows the origins of several ringtones. Two of them, “Daybreak” and “Chalet,” were credited to Steve Ellison — A.K.A. Flying Lotus.

Apple promoted the new podcast this week and tagged Flying Lotus in their social copy — FlyLo then retweeted the promo, confirming his once-secret work for the company. “Apple leaked it so I can say it,” Flying Lotus wrote on Twitter. “I wrote some ringtones that have been in ur iPhone since ios13. ‘Daybreak’ +‘Chalet.

Has it ever tickled your fancy that while the Dutton family harvests the cream of the crop when it comes to spellbinding narratives, some of Yellowstone’s most fascinating characters are left gathering dust on the shelf? That’s how screenwriter Aron Eli Coleite started one draft of Atlas, the sci-fi movie starring Lopez that hit Netflix May 24. The introduction had shades of the first scene of 1982’s Blade Runner, and was designed to keep an audience engaged in the age of streaming, in which there are near infinite opportunities to click away. “You just don’t want the audience to tune out at any point of like, ‘Oh, I can check out,’ says Coleite. “The danger of Netflix is you have a remote control.”

Atlas, Jennifer Lopez’s latest Netflix flick, racked up more than 28 million views over Memorial Day Weekend, while not quite 3 million people bought tickets to see the latest Mad Max movie.

Premiering Friday, May 24, Atlas debuted atop Netflix’s English Films List with 28.2 million views, making it the most-watched title for the week of May 20. All told, the sci-fi thriller reached the Netflix Top 10 in 93 countries.

Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez, Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong, was released on May 24, 2024, and while it seemed like Netflix was going to have an action-packed hit in its library, the first reactions aren’t that great. The movie has been out for just a couple of hours now, and the critics had their say on the movie; from what we can infer from the initial reactions, the movie is actually – horrible! Based on several reviews, the movie has been declared Rotten on Rotten Tomatoes, as critics pan the movie. The initial audience reactions have yet to come in.

The movie was initially announced back in 2022, with principal photography beginning on August 26, 2022; the shooting ended in November 2022. Atlas is directed by Brad Peyton from a script by Leo Sardarian and Aron Eli Coleite.

Arriving on the heels of “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” — a true milestone of superstar transparency where Jennifer Lopez expressed a clear-eyed view of her current career status — “Atlas” feels like an underwhelming return to the kind of projects that have maintained Lopez’ place in the Hollywood firmament, but not the ones that catapulted her there in the first place.

One of her few science fiction-themed films, its novelty alone should make it stand out, especially with Brad Peyton, a reliable purveyor of large-scale spectacle in the director’s chair. But a dearth of original ideas undercuts the appeal of “Atlas,” leaving Lopez to fend for herself in much the same way her character is forced to in the film’s formulaic story.

Lopez plays the title character, a coffee-addicted, “rigid and hostile” data analyst whose mother Val (Lana Parilla) developed the first artificial-intelligence being, Harlan (Simu Liu), when Atlas was just a child.

The iconic child-fantasy novel series The Spideriwick Chronicles received a TV adaptation on the Roku Channel. The fantasy series is created by showrunner Aron Eli Coleite, who is known for working on the shows Locke & Key and Daybreak, both Netflix shows. Authors of the novel series, Tony Diterlizzi and Holly Black are also part of the development process.

Joining the show is Coleite’s Daybreak star Alyvia Alyn Lind as Calliope, an original character that was not present in the novel series. Before fans take up arms for messing with the source material, the showrunner explained why he and authors Diterlizzi and Black chose to create a new character for the show.
