Last week's episode of Surface season 2, episode 4, "Legacy," left us with a plot twist. I'll be honest, it's not the most original. But, things are starting to get a bit more exciting finally, so I'll take it. Season 2 episode 5, "Daybreak," sees Sophie/Tess and James team up while the messy Huntley family, or most of them at least, bring some secrets to light. Here's our review of the episode on Apple TV+. Spoilers Below.
Courtesy: Apple TV+
After the revelation and Sophie/Tess putting the pieces together, of course she does what she does best and does her disappearing act. Tess leaves the country estate without saying goodbye to Eliza. And once again this girl is all sad over her former friend and sister, unbeknownst to her. I'm sorry but there's literally nothing appealing about the Eliza character. She's been the same since meeting her in the first episode of the season.

The following contains major spoilers from Surface Season 2, Episode 5, "Daybreak," now streaming on Apple TV+.
Surface Season 2, Episode 5, "Daybreak" pays off the massive revelation that ended Episode 4... sort of. The entire episode revolves around what fans learned about Sophie Ellis' history, as that information spills out to the other characters. The majority of the plot is people finding out and then reacting to that surprise. That creates an awful lot of suspense, even if it occasionally seems like the show is reaching to create more drama than it needs to.
"Daybreak" picks up the morning after Episode 4. Sophie disappears from the Huntley estate and receives a call from her estranged husband Mark Ellis, who catches her in a vulnerable moment. Elsewhere, Henry Huntley finally catches up with what's been going on, and is forced to come clean to one of his kids. Surface also reveals something that viewers won't at...

Alright, last week's episode of Surface, season 2 episode 4, "Legacy," finally saw Eliza and Sophie/Tess most likely put their dramatic misunderstanding aside and move on, while also delivering a cliffhanger. Battlestar Galactica is one of the few science fiction series that proves reboots can improve upon their original source material and that television was ready to support a sci-fi franchise that wasn't Star Wars or Star Trek. From its pitch-perfect pilot to nearly every episode that followed, Ronald D. Moore and his creative team brought a grounded approach to their story — well as grounded as "being chased around space by killer robots" as you could get. But the series finale "Daybreak" alienated some fanswith its resolution to the Galactica's journey to Earth and the startling revelation that Cylons were the forefathers of humanity. Yes, apparently, we're all descended from killer robots. Even Moore has expressed a few regrets on how "Daybreak" wrapped up the series. "To me, I wanted [Battlestar Galactica] to have a definitive ending...a part of me wishes I hadn't done that," he said at last year's San Diego Comic-Con,...

The award for dumbest murderer on Elsbeth goes to Lawrence “Larry” Grey. At least Matthew Broderick is somehow still charming, even as a killer.
Also, is the whole college admissions scam still a thing? And who in their right mind would start when the student is a toddler?
After so many big-name convictions, I would think people wouldn’t still be playing with fire. Then again, I’ve never been rich and powerful.
(Michael Parmelee/CBS)
As far as Elsbeth episodes, this one hit all the right marks with a bit of drama, a fistful of funny, and a pinch of intrigue right there at the end.
For a show about murder, it sure does manage to deliver a lot of good news and keep things surprisingly upbeat.
Granted, the killers of Elsbeth are not exactly genius masterminds. Still, Larry takes the cake with more rookie mistakes than anyone with...

Rolling Pictures and Decal announced the release date along with an official poster. Directed by James Strong, the film is also executive produced by Representative Eric Swalwell (CA-14).
“Words of War” is based on a true story and follows world-renowned journalist and human rights activist Anna Politkovskaya on her brave crusade, fighting to be an independent voice of truth for the Russian people, putting her own life in jeopardy despite numerous acts of intimidation and violence. While Politkovskaya was ultimately silenced, her legacy lives on and her story serves as a reminder of the dangers that journalists face and the importance of protecting their right to report the news, without fear of death or reprisal.

The future of the Battlestar Galactica franchise is uncertain, with Sam Esmail’s reimagined series with Peacock being aborted before it could launch. It had been in development for years, and the last update was that it was being shopped to other streaming platforms. However, nobody has picked it up yet. With a loyal cult following, Moore’s 2004 series is a risky property to pick up, especially as the cast of the 2004 series are so beloved and likely would not return.
I would like to see the original cast return, but if the reboot is set within the same universe as the 2004 series rather than a direct reboot of Moore’s story, I’m not sure where their characters would fit. I hope the human characters aren’t rewritten as either Cylons or divine beings to facilitate their appearance. This would undo years of development of their characters. I’d...

There are so many TV shows about or involving zombies that it could almost become a genre in and of itself, and that's proven even further by the best zombie series available to stream. Zombie TV shows are, at the least, a sub-genre of dramas, thrillers, post-apocalyptic shows, and sometimes even comedies. The concept of zombies – undead former humans roaming around with the singular mission of finding human flesh to feast on – has been approached from every angle imaginable in the past few decades, and they are only getting better.
The Walking Dead kickstarted the idea of zombies on TV and more recently, the release of The Last of Us saw HBO create one of the best adaptations of a video game, but a show that helped revitalize zombie shows with its huge scope, incredible storytelling, and cinematic quality. It elevated the genre more than any zombie show since The Walking Dead premiered.

When Battlestar Galactica aired its series finale "Daybreak" in 2009, it sparked heated debates among fans and critics alike. While much of the series got rapturous praise for its engaging storytelling, complex characters, and philosophical themes, the Galactica finale was polarizing. Some called it bold and emotional; others deemed it messy and unsatisfying, a disappointing cap to Battlestar Galactica's worst season.
However, looking back, its worth considering a fascinating "what if?" scenario. Under different circumstances, Battlestar Galactica could have ended just one year later, in 2010. Its not a stretch to argue the reception to the BSG finale might have been far kinder from the naysayers, especially looking at how TV finales have evolved over the past 14 years.
Why Battlestar Galactica's Series Finale Was Divisive God, Tech, And Starbuck Left Many Fans Cold
Its not hard to see why some Galactica fans got riled up with the resolutions of Daybreak.

There’s nothing quite like the agony of a TV show canceled before its time, especially when it leaves fans hanging on a cliff so steep you could call it cruel. You’re sitting there, fondling the remote quite clumsily, practically screaming, or perhaps rolling your eyes as the credits roll. What is worse is that you’ll never know what happens next.

The best Yellowstone episodes cement why it has become one of the most popular TV series, with some episodes standing out as the pinnacle of 21st-century Western television. The series follows the wealthy John Dutton, the head of a family that's been settled on the Yellowstone Ranch in Montana for generations. Yellowstone explores the family dynamics of the Dutton family as they contend with various threats to the ownership of their property, ranging from neighboring landowners, a Native American reservation, and a major corporation seeking to build an airport.
The series was created by writer Taylor Sheridan, who quickly worked on expanding the Yellowstone universe into multiple spin-offs, such as 1883 and 1923. The year 2024 will see the final stretch of Yellowstone with season 5, part 2. In the five existing seasons, Sheridan has constructed some unbelievable television, creating moments of action, political intrigue, drama, and romance that have distinguished certain episodes as the best.

"Yellowstone" and "Succession" aren't really birds of a feather, but it's easy to see why folks are inclined to compare them all the same. On some level, both shows are familial dramas that center on a King Lear-esque patriarch whose children vie for control of their inheritance -- the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, in the case of Taylor Sheridan's mega-popular neo-Western drama -- while also warding off the vultures circling from the outside. Personally, I could even picture a crossover where Connor Roy from "Succession," after years of hanging out on his own swanky "ranch" in New Mexico, tries to snatch up the Duttons' land in the hopes of fortifying his salt of the earth public image for his next sure-to-fail presidential run. (You know the Conheads would totally eat that nonsense up.)

"Yellowstone" announced itself as a show that wasn't afraid to kill off main characters with its 2018 pilot episode "Daybreak." In that episode, we're introduced to Kevin Costner's John Dutton III, owner of the Yellowstone ranch in Montana, and his family. But by the end of the pilot we'd already seen two family members kick the bucket — most notably John's eldest son Lee Dutton (Dave Annable), whose fate in "Yellowstone" started the series on a tragic note and set the story of the show in motion.
In the episode, Lee accompanies his father as they try to recover their cattle from the neighboring Broken Rock Indian Reservation. During their late-night recovery mission, however, the pair are confronted by the inhabitants of the reservation and the Broken Rock police, who show up in an attempt to keep the peace. Sadly, they're unsuccessful in that mission, and Lee ends up being shot...

With wealth generated by owning the largest ranch in Montana, the entire family has unimaginable power, often leading to conflict with surrounding communities. From the thugs who beat up Beth Dutton to the crimes committed by the Dutton family themselves, the darkest moments in Yellowstone highlight the harsh realities of the neo-Western genre. While traditional Westerns more clearly delineate the lines between good and evil, neo-Westerns bring these ideals to task in the context of the real world, as seen through Yellowstone's protagonist John Dutton. John is a complex man with some ideals worth fighting for, even if the brutality of the fight cannot be justified. A complex tale of morality, Yellowstone employs some of the darkest scenes in television history.
With the ending of Yellowstone seemingly on the horizon, it is these dark moments that are bound to stay with viewers long after the story of the Duttons has concluded. The legacy of Yellowstone's Duttons is soaked in blood - built atop the countless corpses they've dumped at the "train station.

Across a nearly 20-year career, Flying Lotus has built up quite the resume: six albums, dozens of film scores, high profile collaborations, and apparently, two iPhone ringtones that have been on devices since the 2019 launch of iOS 13.
The contributions were confirmed by the Apple podcast Twenty Thousand Hertz, which takes a deep dive into recognizable and ubiquitous sounds and breaks them down note by note. Their latest episode focuses on “The Sounds of Apple” and follows the origins of several ringtones. Two of them, “Daybreak” and “Chalet,” were credited to Steve Ellison — A.K.A. Flying Lotus.
Apple promoted the new podcast this week and tagged Flying Lotus in their social copy — FlyLo then retweeted the promo, confirming his once-secret work for the company. “Apple leaked it so I can say it,” Flying Lotus wrote on Twitter. “I wrote some ringtones that have been in ur iPhone since ios13. ‘Daybreak’ +‘Chalet.

Has it ever tickled your fancy that while the Dutton family harvests the cream of the crop when it comes to spellbinding narratives, some of Yellowstone’s most fascinating characters are left gathering dust on the shelf? Certainly, with the series grafting its roots around the fractured family tree bearing the likes of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton, it stands to reason that others would play second fiddle.
Gil Birmingham as Thomas Rainwater in Yellowstone | Paramount+
Yet, it’s hard to justify when a character like Thomas Rainwater, played masterfully by Gil Birmingham, is left on the cutting room floor, given short shrift while another chapter of the Beth and Jamie saga unfolds.
Fans, thus, are fluttering like a hive on a hot summer’s day, lamenting how Taylor Sheridan seems to be ‘wasting’ a talent like Birmingham—an actor of such caliber that he was poised to be John Dutton’s most formidable adversary.

It's hard to pick just one favorite character on the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica." One especially beloved member of that ensemble though, is Kara Thrace/Starbuck, the hotshot pilot with a spiritual side and self-doubt to match her strength. She's at the center of the series from the beginning and ultimately becomes the lynchpin in one of its more ... metaphysical storylines.
In the pilot mini-series of "Battlestar Galactica," the android Cylons wipe out the 12 Colonies of Man. So, the eponymous Galactica and a handful of surviving ships set out to find a new home while dodging their Cylon pursuers. The thrust of the series is this makeshift fleet's search for Earth, mythical home of the thirteenth tribe of man. In the end, Starbuck leads them there, sort of.
In season 3 episode "Maelstrom," Kara dies piloting her Viper (a space fighter jet) inside a gas giant. Her comrade/lover Lee Adama (Jamie Bamber) tries to dissuade her,...

[This story contains spoilers for Atlas]
A movie begins, and Jennifer Lopez opens a suitcase to reveal a robotic head, which she proceeds to interrogate.
How’d that head get in the suitcase? Why is Jennifer Lopez talking to it? The audience doesn’t yet know, but hopefully they are intrigued.
That’s how screenwriter Aron Eli Coleite started one draft of Atlas, the sci-fi movie starring Lopez that hit Netflix May 24. The introduction had shades of the first scene of 1982’s Blade Runner, and was designed to keep an audience engaged in the age of streaming, in which there are near infinite opportunities to click away. “You just don’t want the audience to tune out at any point of like, ‘Oh, I can check out,’ says Coleite. “The danger of Netflix is you have a remote control.”
Ultimately, the team — including director Brad Peyton and producer Joby Harold — felt that while the opening was fun,...

Netflix’s sci-fi thriller Atlas, starring Jennifer Lopez, Simu Liu, Sterling K. Brown, and Mark Strong, was released on May 24, 2024, and while it seemed like Netflix was going to have an action-packed hit in its library, the first reactions aren’t that great. The movie has been out for just a couple of hours now, and the critics had their say on the movie; from what we can infer from the initial reactions, the movie is actually – horrible! Arriving on the heels of “The Greatest Love Story Never Told” — a true milestone of superstar transparency where Jennifer Lopez expressed a clear-eyed view of her current career status — “Atlas” feels like an underwhelming return to the kind of projects that have maintained Lopez’ place in the Hollywood firmament, but not the ones that catapulted her there in the first place.
One of her few science fiction-themed films, its novelty alone should make it stand out, especially with Brad Peyton, a reliable purveyor of large-scale spectacle in the director’s chair. But a dearth of original ideas undercuts the appeal of “Atlas,” leaving Lopez to fend for herself in much the same way her character is forced to in the film’s formulaic story.
Lopez plays the title character, a coffee-addicted, “rigid and hostile” data analyst whose mother Val (Lana Parilla) developed the first artificial-intelligence being, Harlan (Simu Liu), when Atlas was just a child.

Dan Jenkins starts as a villain in Yellowstone, but his desire to develop the land is driven by his love for Montana's beauty. Despite forming an alliance with John and Thomas against the Beck brothers, Dan met a brutal end at the hands of hitmen. Dan's sudden and cruel death symbolizes the complexities of wanting to live freely in America, even on one's own land.
Dan Jenkins (Danny Huston) is the primary antagonist in Yellowstone season 1 before he turns into an unexpected Dutton ally in season 2, but his redemption isn't enough to save him from a brutal death. The Dutton family faces threats from the very opening moments of the show when Lee Dutton is unceremoniously shot in the Yellowstone pilot. Yellowstone is filled with villainous cattle rustlers, conniving landowners, antagonistic businessmen, and characters like Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) with a rightful distrust and dislike of the Dutton family and their monolithic Montana ranch.

The Harry Potter novels by J.K. Rowling that became hugely popular with kids and young adults all over the world, gained iconic status when they were adapted into films. The blockbuster movies also made Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson huge stars and gave them their first foothold into the industry.
