The winners for the 36th Annual GLAAD Media Awards were announced on Thursday evening, in a Los Angeles ceremony hosted by Shrinking‘s Michael Urie.

Come 2025 she is back again with a new film, Holland, in which she plays a picture-perfect teacher and homemaker in the small midwestern town of Holland, Mich., who suspects her husband (played by Matthew Macfadyen) of living a double life. She and her friend (Gael García Bernal) then uncover a twisted secret along the way.

The Prime Video film premiered at SXSW in Austin on Sunday, as Kidman told The Hollywood Reporter that she will finally have a break on the horizon, noting this year is “actually not as crazy. I was much more out there last year; this year I have Holland, I have Nine Perfect Strangers, and then I’m off for the rest of year.

Ryan Reynolds has proven that his films bring people to the theater. His third Deadpool installment, Deadpool & Wolverine, was the biggest live-action film of 2024 and the second-highest-grossing title of the year.

However, even with his gross, Reynolds didn't score the highest paycheck of the year. Forbes officially released the new top 10 for the highest-paid actors of 2024, which includes 9 actors and an actress. While Reynolds didn't top the chart, he was a close second, with only $3 million behind his 2020 competition.

Fresh off the success of her A24 hit Babygirl, Nicole Kidman is back at it again in Holland, the new thriller from director Mimi Cave (Fresh) and writer Andrew Sodroski (Manhunt) that's set to hit Prime Video on March 27, 2025. Also starring Gael García Bernal and Matthew Macfadyen, the new trailer for the film was just released by the streaming service (seen below) and showcases how Kidman's seemingly perfect life gets upended when she suspects her husband of living a double life.

Giving off a very The Stepford Wives vibe – which starred Kidman in the 2004 adaptation of Ira Levin's novel – the Holland trailer begins with a voiceover from the star as we see images of the picturesque town of Holland, Michigan. "Every day, I get to wake up in the best place on Earth," Kidman says. We're then treated to images of beautiful tulip gardens and her all-American family before she continues.

The Amazon MGM Studios thriller sees the prolific actor and producer in the role of Nancy Vandergroot, a Stepford wife-like character in a tulip and windmill-filled town who has a community pillar husband, played by Matthew Macfadyen, and Jude Hill (Belfast) as her son.

But the Hitchcock-like tale has Nancy and her friendly colleague, played by Gael García Bernal, begin to suspect the Michigan town has a secret, only to discover nothing in their lives is what it seems. “It’s like, you know, you should leave this scab alone. Picking at it, you’re only going to hurt yourself, but you do it anyways,” Nancy says at one point in a trailer voiceover.

Mimi Cave directed Holland, originally titled Holland, Michigan, with Andrew Sodroski having penned the screenplay.

Brian Tee has been an actor for years, playing a villain in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” and with roles on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Entourage,” and “Chicago Med.” One of his most challenging roles to date, however, was Clarke, the husband of Nicole Kidman’s character on Prime Video’s “Expats.” (Follow the full list of Film Independent Spirit Award winners here.)

The Lulu Wang-directed series, an adaptation of Janice Y.K. Lee’s novel “The Expatriates,” centered on a couple, played by Tee and Kidman, living in Hong Kong whose toddler son vanishes in a crowded marketplace. Clearly, he was abducted. It’s a harrowing moment — the absolute worst fear a parent could ever have — but remarkably, it was the very first scene Tee shot opposite Kidman for the show.

Nicole Kidman made a vow in 2017 to work with a woman director every 18 months. To say she has made good on that promise would be an understatement. The Oscar winner has teamed up with a women director either as a producer or as an actor 19 times over the last eight years, with more female-directed projects already in the pipeline.

Speaking in a new interview with Time magazine, Kidman explained that one of her reasons behind making the vow is a double standard that women directors face. These filmmakers are under pressure to “be perfect” when their movies get funded and there’s no room for error. Whereas male directors are more likely to get a chance to rebound, female directors are knocked down if they don’t deliver a perfect movie.

“It can be changed,” Kidman said, “but it can only be changed by actually being in the films of women.

Up the road, there’s a place… stuck in time. Sony Pictures has released the brand new trailer for David F. Sandberg’s Until Dawn, and it delivers a monster mash of time loop terror.

As the previous trailer revealed, the movie traps a group of characters in a creepy location that’s stuck in time, with new threats being unleashed as the characters attempt to survive until dawn. This second trailer for Until Dawn introduces more of the monstrous threats, while also promising that we’re in store for a whole lot of bloody slasher movie madness.

The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.

The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”

On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.

The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

Production began in August, wrapping in October, and the film is aiming for an April 25, 2025 theatrical release. A couple of days ago, a teaser video dropped online to allow Sandberg and Dauberman to explain their approach to the material. Now, a full trailer has been unveiled, giving us a look at the result of that approach. You can check it out in the embed above.

“Every night, somebody new is trying to kill us.” The Until Dawn video game gets a time loop twist in the upcoming movie adaptation from Sony Pictures, and the trailer has arrived.

From director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle Creation, Shazam) and writer Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun), Until Dawn arrives in theaters on April 25, 2025.

The upcoming movie will have a similar mechanic to the choose-your-own-adventure style of the video game, a unique way to bring the experience to life on the big screen. We’ve been told not to expect a 1:1 adaptation of the fan favorite video game, but it looks like Sandberg and company made sure their Until Dawn movie has that video game feel to it all the same.

Same night, different nightmare. Sony Pictures has released first look footage from the movie adaptation of the Until Dawn video game this morning, in the form of a featurette video with insights from director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle Creation, Shazam), writer Gary Dauberman and star Peter Stormare. Watch the footage below!

Until Dawn will be unleashed in theaters on April 25, 2025.

Of particular note, Sandberg reveals in the video that the upcoming Until Dawn movie will have a similar mechanic to the choose-your-own-adventure style of the video game.

“One of the creative things the game did is that people make different choices and die in different ways,” Sandberg explains. “The movie has this mechanic, where things start over and they get to try again. Every time they come back to life, it’s like they’re in a new horror genre.”

“To survive,” Sandberg continues, “They have to make it Until Dawn.

Sony wasn’t done with their film announcements at the Consumer Electronics Show 2025. Along with revealing that a Helldivers film adaptation was in the works, Sony also dropped news regarding the film adaptation of Until Dawn. Per IGN, Ashley Brucks, president of Sony’s film division Screen Gems, stated that director David F. Sandberg‘s Until Dawn will respect the source material, but will feature a new story and cast of characters separate from the original game.

“The key to successful adapting these games comes down to one thing: respecting the source material,” Brucks said. “Our close collaboration with PlayStation Productions gives us and our filmmakers the advantage of working directly with the creators of the game.

It’s a careful balance of trying to identify and incorporate what the fans love about the game and the experience as well as offering something fresh and exciting to entice newcomers.” Brucks...

Best episodes lists often tend to be dominated, these days, by the flashy, format-breaking standalone installments that most great prestige programs seem to unveil once or twice per season.

Yes. Jodie Foster ended up replacing her—and Nicole Kidman, surprisingly, was thankful. “I was in a really bad way. I was like, ‘I’m having a breakdown.’ And Jodie took over, thank the Lord,” Kidman admitted.

The Panic Room storyline saw Foster and a young Kristen Stewart trapped in their New York apartment’s panic room, hiding from intruders. But for Kidman, her departure from the project stemmed from a serious knee injury sustained during Moulin Rouge in 2001. On top of that, she was navigating a rocky personal life. Her 11-year marriage to Tom Cruise had just ended, adding emotional turbulence to an already demanding career.

Despite her personal challenges, Kidman’s professional trajectory was soaring. But success didn’t mean everything was smooth sailing. She later opened up about not fully enjoying her 2003 Oscar win for The Hours.
