Last year, we learned that Lights Out and Annabelle: Creation director David F. Sandberg would be re-teaming with Annabelle: Creation screenwriter Gary Dauberman for a movie based on the horror video game Until Dawn. Production began in August, wrapping in October, and the film is aiming for an April 25, 2025 theatrical release. With that date swiftly approaching, Sandberg has released an 8 minute and 29 second video that digs into his approach to practical special FX – and you can watch it at the bottom of this article!
As The Hollywood Reporter previously noted, first released in 2015, Until Dawn is an interactive horror video game that follows eight friends and frenemies who are brought together a remote mountain retreat. With live or die scenarios featuring a mysterious killer, cannibalistic wendigos, a cable car, and a long-ago mining cave-in that reverberates into the present day, the members of the group must fight through their...

The most exciting part of movie-going for many is right before it starts, when you settle into your AMC Theaters recliner to watch Nicole Kidman remind us why we love the movies. Nevermind the popcorn, previews, or candy: Nicole Kidman makes movies better.
Of course, the actress has had a long and storied career prior to becoming the face of AMC Theaters. The Australian actress made her film debut at only 16-years-old, before her profile slowly began to rise in the late '80s and early '90s with films like "Dead Calm," "Days of Thunder," and "Billy Bathgate." By the end of the last decade of the millennium, Kidman had become an A-list celebrity, making tabloid headlines for her marriage with Tom Cruise, and even racking up Oscar nominations as an established and profitable movie star.

Nicole Kidman once led a modern-day reboot of The Stepford Wives, certain generations might recall. Two decades later, the busy Oscar winner is starring in yet another edgy thriller set in a "perfect" little society where beautiful spouses seem to bow down to their hardworking, idyllic husbands. There's an unspoken notion in the new movie Holland, particularly between Kidman's character and her charming hubby (Succession Mvp Matthew Macfadyen), that the man of the house can do no wrong after "rescuing" her years prior and now providing her with a sort of utopian lifestyle within the eponymous town in Michigan.
But just like The Stepford Wives — and the numerous other high-brow thrillers Kidman has led of late, things go wrong once her heroine starts to sniff things out. Despite the nifty little twists and turns along the way in Holland — directed by Mimi Cave and written by Andrew Sodroski — the 108-minute...

The amount of screen time does not always determine an actor’s checks in Hollywood. The modern-day top-earning stars serve as multimedia brands, which allows them to secure big payments because their fanbase enables studios and streaming platforms to use them as powerful marketing tools.
Changes in how actors receive compensation payments have become significant in the last few years. The beginning of streaming buyout deals raised the bar for sure. The profit-sharing arrangements between studios and actors provide dual payment options of opening fees together with backend profits, which works great for those who star in big box office performers.

There’s a scene in the searing Amazon Prime series “Expats” where Nicole Kidman’s character, a moneyed American living in Hong Kong, breaks into her neighbor’s apartment, convinced he’s perhaps kidnapped her missing son. Rifling through his personal effects, she picks up a pair of binoculars and holds them to her face, apropos of nothing, to perhaps see what the neighbor might’ve seen from out the window across the way. Or perhaps, to understand, “What are binoculars? How do they work?” It’s an unintentionally comic moment, and it’s pretty much what’s happening for the entirety of Amazon Prime Video’s latest partnership with Kidman and her Blossom Films, “Holland.”
Kidman here plays another, less fortunate housewife, Nancy Vandergroot, in Mimi Cave’s thriller, and as in the ill-conceived but retrospectively campy 2004 remake of Ira Levin’s “The Stepford Wives,” she’s back to the cookie-cutter,...

You would be hard-pressed to find a busier person in Hollywood than Nicole Kidman, who in the last year or so has released Expats, A Family Affair, The Perfect Couple, Spellbound, Babygirl and season two of Lioness.
Come 2025 she is back again with a new film, Holland, in which she plays a picture-perfect teacher and homemaker in the small midwestern town of Holland, Mich., who suspects her husband (played by Matthew Macfadyen) of living a double life. She and her friend (Gael García Bernal) then uncover a twisted secret along the way.
The Prime Video film premiered at SXSW in Austin on Sunday, as Kidman told The Hollywood Reporter that she will finally have a break on the horizon, noting this year is “actually not as crazy. Ryan Reynolds has proven that his films bring people to the theater. His third Deadpool installment, Deadpool & Wolverine, was the biggest live-action film of 2024 and the second-highest-grossing title of the year.
However, even with his gross, Reynolds didn't score the highest paycheck of the year. Forbes officially released the new top 10 for the highest-paid actors of 2024, which includes 9 actors and an actress. While Reynolds didn't top the chart, he was a close second, with only $3 million behind his 2020 competition.

Fresh off the success of her A24 hit Babygirl, Nicole Kidman is back at it again in Holland, the new thriller from director Mimi Cave (Fresh) and writer Andrew Sodroski (Manhunt) that's set to hit Prime Video on March 27, 2025. Also starring Gael García Bernal and Matthew Macfadyen, the new trailer for the film was just released by the streaming service (seen below) and showcases how Kidman's seemingly perfect life gets upended when she suspects her husband of living a double life.
Giving off a very The Stepford Wives vibe – which starred Kidman in the 2004 adaptation of Ira Levin's novel – the Holland trailer begins with a voiceover from the star as we see images of the picturesque town of Holland, Michigan. "Every day, I get to wake up in the best place on Earth," Kidman says. We're then treated to images of beautiful tulip gardens and her all-American family before she continues.

Nicole Kidman sees her life as a perfect teacher and homemaker in Holland, Michigan, unravel in the official trailer for Holland, which dropped on Tuesday.
The Amazon MGM Studios thriller sees the prolific actor and producer in the role of Nancy Vandergroot, a Stepford wife-like character in a tulip and windmill-filled town who has a community pillar husband, played by Matthew Macfadyen, and Jude Hill (Belfast) as her son.
But the Hitchcock-like tale has Nancy and her friendly colleague, played by Gael García Bernal, begin to suspect the Michigan town has a secret, only to discover nothing in their lives is what it seems. “It’s like, you know, you should leave this scab alone. Picking at it, you’re only going to hurt yourself, but you do it anyways,” Nancy says at one point in a trailer voiceover.
Mimi Cave directed Holland, originally titled Holland, Michigan, with Andrew Sodroski having penned the screenplay.

Brian Tee has been an actor for years, playing a villain in “The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift,” and with roles on “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Entourage,” and “Chicago Med.” One of his most challenging roles to date, however, was Clarke, the husband of Nicole Kidman’s character on Prime Video’s “Expats.” (Follow the full list of Film Independent Spirit Award winners here.)

Nicole Kidman made a vow in 2017 to work with a woman director every 18 months. To say she has made good on that promise would be an understatement. The Oscar winner has teamed up with a women director either as a producer or as an actor 19 times over the last eight years, with more female-directed projects already in the pipeline.
Speaking in a new interview with Time magazine, Kidman explained that one of her reasons behind making the vow is a double standard that women directors face. These filmmakers are under pressure to “be perfect” when their movies get funded and there’s no room for error. Whereas male directors are more likely to get a chance to rebound, female directors are knocked down if they don’t deliver a perfect movie.
“It can be changed,” Kidman said, “but it can only be changed by actually being in the films of women.

Dedicated movie lovers and frequent theater visitors often fall in love with a specific filmmaker. As fans watch more films and refine their taste, they find the voices that speak to them the most and continuously return to see their work in the future. Typically, this fanatical, almost parasocial, relationship is reserved for actors, writers, or directors, but in recent years, fandom has evolved. Production companies, which were previously just the logos and names that popped up prior to the opening scene, have become personified by fans. The nominations have been revealed for the 2025 GLAAD Media Awards, and one critically acclaimed LGBTQ+ film is notably absent from the pack of nominees.
The annual awards ceremony will return for a 36th year in 2025. According to GLAAD, it’s goal is to “recognize and honor fair, accurate, and inclusive representations of the LGBTQ community in an ever-expanding and media landscape.”
On Wednesday (January 22), the organization revealed the crop of nominees that would be honored at the ceremony. While projects such as Wicked and Queer were notably featured, Netflix’s Emilia Perez was left off the list.
The snub comes after GLAAD declared that the movie, which stars Zoe Saldana, Selena Gomez and trans actress Karla Sofia Gascon, was “not good trans representation” in a November 2024 essay. The story included reviews from transgender film critics and noted that “inauthentic portrayals of trans people are offensive and even dangerous.”

A couple of days ago, a teaser video dropped online to allow Sandberg and Dauberman to explain their approach to the material. Now, a full trailer has been unveiled, giving us a look at the result of that approach. You can check it out in the embed above.
As The Hollywood Reporter previously noted, first released in 2015, Until Dawn is an interactive horror video game that follows eight friends and frenemies who are brought together a remote mountain retreat. “Every night, somebody new is trying to kill us.” The Until Dawn video game gets a time loop twist in the upcoming movie adaptation from Sony Pictures, and the trailer has arrived.
From director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle Creation, Shazam) and writer Gary Dauberman (It, The Nun), Until Dawn arrives in theaters on April 25, 2025.
The upcoming movie will have a similar mechanic to the choose-your-own-adventure style of the video game, a unique way to bring the experience to life on the big screen. We’ve been told not to expect a 1:1 adaptation of the fan favorite video game, but it looks like Sandberg and company made sure their Until Dawn movie has that video game feel to it all the same.
Think Until Dawn meets… The Cabin in the Woods.

Same night, different nightmare. Sony Pictures has released first look footage from the movie adaptation of the Until Dawn video game this morning, in the form of a featurette video with insights from director David F. Sandberg (Lights Out, Annabelle Creation, Shazam), writer Gary Dauberman and star Peter Stormare. Watch the footage below!

Sony wasn’t done with their film announcements at the Consumer Electronics Show 2025. Along with revealing that a Helldivers film adaptation was in the works, Sony also dropped news regarding the film adaptation of Until Dawn. Per IGN, Ashley Brucks, president of Sony’s film division Screen Gems, stated that director David F. “The key to successful adapting these games comes down to one thing: respecting the source material,” Brucks said. “Our close collaboration with PlayStation Productions gives us and our filmmakers the advantage of working directly with the creators of the game.
It’s a careful balance of trying to identify and incorporate what the fans love about the game and the experience as well as offering something fresh and exciting to entice newcomers.” Brucks...

The star of Mad Men has kept a full schedule. He has been in several well-known TV shows and movies, such as Landman, The Morning Show, and Fargo. Nicole Kidman is literally the epitome of grace and talent, and she has always stood tall. With her statuesque frame and mesmerizing screen presence, she has undoubtedly conquered Hollywood, delivering powerhouse performances that have blown our minds away.
But believe it or not, there was a time when her fabulous height was more of a Hollywood hurdle than a standout feature. Yes, the very trait that makes her iconic today once had directors scratching their heads and saying, ‘Next’. And honestly, how could one of the most bankable stars in the world ever be considered as “too much” of anything?

As a young actress, Kidman’s impressive 5’11 stature often worked against her. And the casting directors were apparently wary of pairing her with shorter male co-stars, deemed her “too tall” for many leading lady roles. Seriously, imagine being turned down not because...

Is Nicole Kidman pregnant again? Will she have a 5th child?
That’s the question asked time and time again of the Oscar winner. With two children with her husband, Keith Urban, and two grown kids with her ex, Tom Cruise, four kiddos might be the end of the road for her. She is, after all, 57.
Then again, nothing is impossible in Hollywood — and Nicole has gushed so heartily about being a mother that the time just might be right for the beloved star to think about expanding her family.
But let’s let Nicole speak for herself, shall we?

Nicole Kidman's new erotic thriller takes inspiration from an unanswered fantasy in Stanley Kubrick's divisive drama that made $162 million at the box office. During the 1990s, the Australian actress starred alongside Tom Cruise several times, starting with 1990's Days of Thunder, which was her international breakout. Kidman and Cruise reunited for Ron Howard's Irish epic Far and Away in 1992 and once again in 1999 as a couple on a sexual odyssey in Stanley Kubrick's final film, Eyes Wide Shut.
Kidman has been one of the highest-paid actresses since the late 1990s and remains incredibly busy to this day. In 2024 alone, she has starred in the Prime Video series Expats, the Netflix films A Family Affair and Spellbound, the Netflix series The Perfect Couple, and the Paramount+ series Lioness. However, Kidman has yet another movie, A24's erotic thriller Babygirl, still left to be released in 2024.

Best episodes lists often tend to be dominated, these days, by the flashy, format-breaking standalone installments that most great prestige programs seem to unveil once or twice per season.
Our list does, indeed, include a couple of those. We’ve got flashbacks, tonal detours and feature-length episodes that reframe everything we thought we understood about the season or the shows themselves. But we also have some a couple of premieres, a finale or two and just some darned good regular episodes representing the best that the shows have to offer, rather than trying out something new or different. We’ve got animation, documentary and foreign television, plus some comedies, some dramas and whatever The Bear is.
Please note that no matter what the headline here says, this isn’t precisely a “best episodes” list at all. If a show made either of our respective Top 10 lists, we deemed it ineligible...

Nicole Kidman lost the lead role in Panic Room? ( Photo Credit – Instagram )
Yes. Jodie Foster ended up replacing her—and Nicole Kidman, surprisingly, was thankful. “I was in a really bad way. I was like, ‘I’m having a breakdown.’ And Jodie took over, thank the Lord,” Kidman admitted.
The Panic Room storyline saw Foster and a young Kristen Stewart trapped in their New York apartment’s panic room, hiding from intruders. But for Kidman, her departure from the project stemmed from a serious knee injury sustained during Moulin Rouge in 2001. On top of that, she was navigating a rocky personal life. Her 11-year marriage to Tom Cruise had just ended, adding emotional turbulence to an already demanding career.
Despite her personal challenges, Kidman’s professional trajectory was soaring. But success didn’t mean everything was smooth sailing. She later opened up about not fully enjoying her 2003 Oscar win for The Hours.
