By the time Megan Moroney sang the words, “Oh, my God, am I okay?” at Rolling Stone’s third-annual Future of Music showcase at SXSW on Wednesday night, it was clear the Georgia country star already had her answer. Moroney was far better than just “okay,” and the fans assembled at Austin’s Acl Live at the Moody Theater let her know it. They cheered, and on occasion shrieked, when the singer launched into emo-country hits like her breakthrough “Tennessee Orange,” the reflective “I’m Not Pretty,” and a set-closing “Am I Okay?...

Last year, Durand Bernarr was hitting a new career peak — and a case of burnout. The Cleveland-born R&b artist had won a wide new audience in the spring with his En Route EP, which would go on to nab a 2025 Grammy nomination. But now he had just a month to crank out a new project. In need of new ideas and perspectives, he pivoted from his usual way of making music. “The difference between this project and the last one was there were way more hands and brains involved in the creative process,...

Don’t Nod venture back to the 90s, where a group of four teenage girls are experiencing summer adventures and having fun before it ends up a terrifying mess of… well, that’d be spoiling it.
Married with a dual timeline between the 90s and a modern-day reminiscing discussion between two of the now women, you’ll be thrown for a loop as to what’s going on, why it’s happening, and just how much no one likes Corey. The biggest question you’ll have though… How long does it take to beat Lost Records: Bloom & Rage?

Thom Yorke has teamed up with Mark Pritchard for the new single “Back in the Game,” the second collaboration between the Radiohead singer and the electronic artist.
“Back in the Game” previously debuted onstage last year during Yorke’s “Everything” solo tour of Australia and Asia, with the studio version arriving Thursday along with a video directed by visual artist Jonathan Zawada, who found inspiration from — of all things — a disco movie.

Ridley Scott sold the set of his 2005 movie for $10, only to pay $1 million to rent the set again fifteen years later. Scott has a dynamic directing career that began with the 1977 film The Duellists. His next movie, Alien, proved to be a breakout hit that launched a long-running franchise and remains one of Ridley Scott's best movies. Scott's next science-fiction film, Blade Runner, was critically divisive when it was released in 1982 and underperformed at the box office, but it is now considered to be a highly influential staple of the science-fiction genre.
Scott has made a lasting impact on other genres as well. His 1991 crime drama, Thelma and Louise, is still widely lauded as a powerful feminist film. A decade later, Scott's Black Hawk Down showcased the true horrors of war based on real events from the Battle of Mogadishu in 1993. Exclusive: Greg McLean, director of the Australian drama series Territory, which is currently sitting at No. 3 on Netflix’s list of its Top 10 TV Shows in the U.S. after premiering October 24, has signed with Range Media Partners for management.

Martha Stewart is a figure many feel they know well, yet few truly understand. Her cultural impact looms large as the original lifestyle influencer, yet her famously stringent standards obscure the interior drive behind her success.
Tasked with illuminating such an enigmatic subject, director R.J. Cutler faced no easy challenge with his portrait of Martha. Known for his insightful profiles of other influential figures, Cutler’s skills were put to the test navigating Stewart’s reluctance to bear all.
Through old interviews and a trove of new conversations, Cutler aimed to craft a richly layered depiction spanning Stewart’s rise from model to mogul. But with his subject hesitant to delve deeply into certain periods, particularly her legal woes, achieving full dimension required deft work.
By spotlighting Stewart alone yet supplementing with friends’ perspectives, Cutler found balance, acknowledging both admiration for her accomplishments alongside unease with less flattering aspects. Though...

Thom Yorke began his solo tour of New Zealand, Australia, Singapore, and Japan on Wednesday night in Christchurch, New Zealand, and played a handful of rarities, Radiohead and The Smile cuts, and even a brand new song called “Back in the Game.”
As Yorke alluded to in his recent interview with Double J — where he claimed he didn’t “give a flying fuck” about fans clamoring for Radiohead’s return — he took the stage with a minimalist set-up featuring several large synth machines and a microphone (and no drummer).
He opened the show with an acoustic rendition of the In Rainbows favorite “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi,” and continued with Radiohead’s “I Might Be Wrong.” Yorke went on to play several more Radiohead tracks, including “Packt Like Sardines in a Crushd Tin Box” (which he debuted solo for the first time ever live), “Bloom,” “How to Disappear Completely,” “Daydreaming,” “Everything in its Right Place,...

Add the idea of psychoactive compound to Arkham and chances are you think of Dr. Jonathan Crane. Better known to comic book fans as the Scarecrow, he's known for creating a Fear Toxin which leaves exposed to it in a state of absolute terror. A brand-new trailer for the upcoming Don’t Nod title, Lost Records: Bloom and Rage just dropped at Gamescom 2024 Opening Night Live, and it’s one that no Life is Strange fan would want to miss out on.
The trailer gives us a look into the lives of four high school girls in the 90’s who seemingly have everything going for them as their friendship slowly blooms. However, not everything is what it seems.
Don’t Be Fooled by Lost Records: Bloom and Rage’s Wholesome Looks
When news first emerged that the studio behind Life is Strange was releasing a new game unconnected to the franchise, it was nothing but excitement for fans.
Over the years, the studio has gained the trust of many in consistently delivering titles that will evoke every kind of emotion listed in a dictionary, and the trailer for its upcoming release doesn’t indicate any difference.

New “The Parthenogenesis of Hungry Hollow” Module for Ttrpg ‘Liminal Horror’ Now Available Digitally
Last month, Aaron took a look at Goblin Archives’ Ttrpg Liminal Horror and its module, The Bloom. As in the main game, players take on the role of Investigators attempting to figure out what has been going on in the town of Hungry Hollow. Brea, a former Investigator, had recently moved back to the town, but all communication from her has ceased. It turns out that a large part of the town’s population has been secretly implanted with parasitic flesh bees. One thing I enjoy about the modern indie tabletop RPG space is that when a game comes around with a great foundation, it often gets a ton of support in the form of new adventures from both the original creators and fans alike. Mork Bork, Mothership, and Trophy blew up in popularity largely because of this, giving GMs a simple set of rules paired with a wide range of premade scenarios that are easy to get to the table. One game that’s been quietly building a collection of zine-sized adventures is Liminal Horror, a rules-lite narrative-first Ttrpg from Goblin Archives. This year, their new module The Bloom was nominated for an Ennie, an annual award that celebrates roleplaying games. After flipping through the 45 page module, it’s easy to see why this was one of the standouts in this category.

There has been a lot of speculation regarding the arrival of a new agent, with players reading into subtle hints planted in the reveal trailer of the new map Abyss and the announcement trailer of Act 9 episode 1.

Macu Machín’s “The Undergrowth” (“La Hojarasca”) took home the top MiradaCanaria prize at the 17th MiradasDoc, which ran March 15-22 in Tenerife, Spain.
Produced by El Viaje Films, Machin’s debut feature has been picking up accolades since its world premiere at Berlinale’s Forum, snagging Best Spanish Picture and director at the Malaga Film Festival’s Zonazine, a sidebar for edgier and sometimes smaller pics.
The jury praised the doc for its “sensitive and evocative portrayal of three sisters and their deep bond of love for each other and their homeland.” In it, two elderly sisters join a third to hash out their shared inheritance of a plot of land as the rumble of an active volcano echoes close by.
Part of a burgeoning Canary Islands cinema, “The Undergrowth” explores questions of “identity, belonging, and the dynamics of the place where me and my family came from,” Machín told Variety.

With a career spanning over six decades, Ian McKellen has entertained audiences across generations. The Hollywood star isn’t typecast, as he can convincingly portray heroes, villains, Shakespearean characters, comedic roles, and more.

The Outpost receives high praise for its realism, with a rating of 9/10 from an expert and positive reviews from veterans. Director Rod Lurie's background in the military contributed to the film's unprecedented level of realism for a Hollywood war movie. The Outpost was based on a book by Jake Tapper, who extensively researched the Battle of Kamdesh and interviewed veterans involved, some of whom appear in the movie.
The Outpost receives a high rating for realism from an expert. Based on the non-fiction book by Jake Tapper, the war movie chronicles the Battle of Kamdesh, which saw a small team of U.S. soldiers battling hundreds of Taliban fighters, during the war in Afghanistan. With a cast led by Scott Eastwood, Caleb Landry Jones, and Orlando Bloom, The Outpost did not receive a wide theatrical release due to the Covid-19 pandemic and was instead sent straight to video-on-demand in 2020. Even if you’ve read Bryan Lee O’Malley’s seminal Scott Pilgrim Oni Press graphic novel series and even if you’ve seen Edgar Wright’s 2010 live-action Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, O’Malley and BenDavid Grabinski’s new Netflix animated series Scott Pilgrim Takes Off isn’t what you’re expecting it to be.
Because of Netflix’s very restrictive requests regarding what critics can and cannot reveal about Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, I can’t tell you how or why it’s different or what the differences do to the themes of O’Malley’s fantastical story. Heck, I can’t even tell you if there are guest stars, much less who they are or who they play.
Darn.
So to boil it down: Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is probably my third favorite incarnation of this story, and I don’t think the reconfiguration of the story entirely works,...

On his sophomore effort, Bloom, Australian singer Troye Sivan struck a delicate balance between unapologetic queer desire and the kind of hole-in-your-soul introspection that has, until recently, been traditionally expected of LGBTQ+ pop artists. In other words, gay sex is permissible, as long as you’re a little bit tortured about it.
Five years later, Something to Give Each Other finds Sivan older, bolder, and, for a large part of its running time, unrepentantly horny. The album’s lead single, “Rush,” was initially released in a two-and-a-half-minute edit that captures the sensation of a quick hit of poppers (the song’s title also happens to be the name of a popular brand of alkyl nitrite). The version of the throbbing house track that appears on the album, however, is a full minute longer, with a breakdown that lets Sivan breathe—and luxuriate in the afterglow.

Violet Bridgerton's romantic future is uncertain, as the author may think too highly of her to write a worthy love interest. Julia Quinn believes Violet would have to sacrifice her freedom if she remarried, but this excuse is contradicted by Anthony and Kate's independent relationship. A prequel spin-off focusing on Violet and her late husband Edmund would deepen the audience's understanding of her character and her grief.
Among all the romances seen in Bridgerton, a story has yet to be written in which Violet Bridgerton finds love again. The Bridgerton season 2 finale sees Anthony (Jonathan Bailey) find his match in the headstrong Kate (Simone Ashley). Several years after the tragic death of his father, Edmund, Anthony has yet to fully process his grief. Witnessing his mother’s devastation as a child scars Anthony. He is so terrified that he vows to stave off love—that is until Kate. As each...

In October of 2020, The Band Perry — siblings Kimberly, Reid, and Neil — headed down to Dallas, Texas, to try and give their recording days as family trio one last shot. Unmoored during Covid lockdown and slowly finding their way back to Tennessee from their shared Sherman Oaks, California, house, they made a series of demos with Paul Cauthen’s producing team that never saw the light of day. Kimberly Perry was a fan of Cauthen’s 41 Project, especially his “Cocaine Country Dancing,” and thought the feel might suit them and their Southern gothic inclinations.

With the 2023 debut of the animated series based on Berkeley Breathed's Bloom County, the upcoming seasonal tradition of viewing A Charlie Brown Christmas, and the November 2022 launch of Netflix's Addams Family adaptation Wednesday, comic strip properties continue to be a significant part of pop culture. Daily comic strips were an integral part of life before the internet, and loyal fans followed their favorite cartoon characters week to week.
On occasion, creators would 'guest star' other well-known comic strip characters in their own strips (with permissions), and there was the rather infamous April Fools' Day 1997 'Great Comics Switcheroonie,' where fellow cartoonists swapped drawing duties without the knowledge of their editors just to give funny page aficionados a nice Easter egg with their morning coffee.

Calvin and Hobbes is one of the most beloved newspaper comics of all time. Even decades after its run ended It's still fondly remembered, as shown by the fact that art related to the work recently headlined an auction, boosting the event's legitimacy (via Cbr).
The reason that the comic is so beloved is that it didn't just supply laughs. The comic also had its fair share of somber moments, and while these moments could be heart-warming they could also be quite sad. Calvin and Hobbes showed childhood could be wonderful, but also harrowing and tear-jerking.
