As robust as streaming, premium cable and PBS have made the documentary marketplace in recent years, you wouldn’t be wrong to feel that there’s a glut of similar stories being told in similar ways. If you’re a documentary about anything cult-related, good luck cutting through an ample amount of clutter.
A desensitized viewership is a bad thing, or at least it can be. There’s no harm if audiences have become numb to stories about different role-players from the championship Lakers and Celtics teams of the ’80s. The Jackson 5 have found their harmony once again for the upcoming biopic “Michael” from director Antoine Fuqua and Oscar-winning producer Graham King.
After a worldwide search led filmmakers to cast Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, as the King of Pop, with 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi as the younger Michael, fans have been eagerly waiting to see who would round out the rest of the Jackson family.
The film, which is scheduled to hit theaters on April 18, 2025, is currently in production. Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo assumes the role of family patriarch Joe Jackson with Nia Long as mother Katherine Jackson, plus Miles Teller as lawyer John Branca.

Tarell Alvin McCraney does not shy away from the toughest — and what he calls “provocative” — question facing theater-makers today: Who’s going to the theater to help them stay afloat?
Theater as an art form has stood the test of time — but times have rarely been as existentially daunting for the business as they are today. The last year has seen programming suspensions, layoffs and rounds of emergency fundraising at such rock-steady institutions as the Public Theater in New York City, the Oregon Shakespeare Festival and Los Angeles’ own Mark Taper Forum. Per a July report from American Theatre, 35 regional theaters and counting have closed since March 2020.
And so it’s in the midst of historic, industry-wide downturns since Covid that McCraney — the Oscar-winning screenwriter (and original playwright) of Barry Jenkins’ “Moonlight” and creator of OWN’s “David Makes Man” — took the reins as artistic director for Geffen Playhouse in...

The first episode of “61st Street” lays the foundation for a story that’s become all too familiar on television and in reality alike. Over eight episodes, AMC’s new drama (executive produced by Michael B. Jordan) depicts the before, during, and frantic after of a Chicago drug bust that ends in two deaths: Rufus (Kevin Tre’von Patterson), a Black teen with deep roots in the community, and Offer Mike Rossi (Patrick Mulvey), who had been quietly investigating his precinct for corruption before this fateful day. While the cops call Rufus’ death an open and shut case of an officer defending himself, they pin Rossi’s on Moses Johnson (Tosin Cole), a promising track star caught in the wrong place at the wrong time while trying to get his brother Joshua (Bentley Green) home, before an accidental brush with Rossi sent the cop’s head into a protruding pipe, killing him almost instantly.

For decades, WarnerMedia and Discovery had largely co-existed independently. They have lived in separate universes with virtually no business interactions, as unscripted television is their main area of overlap. The Discovery networks work primarily with independent producers and not studios like Warner Bros TV, which has only produced a handful of reality shows for Discovery nets via its Shed subsidiary
However, there is a close working relationship which has flown largely under the radar and creates instant synergy post-merger — that between Warner Bros. However, there is a close working relationship which has flown largely under the radar and creates instant synergy post-merger — that between Warner Bros. TV and OWN: Oprah Winfrey Network on the scripted side. Over the last five years, Wbtv has become OWN’s de-facto scripted studio, producing virtually all of its original scripted series, from Queen Sugar and David Makes Man to All Rise.
After the Discovery-WarnerMedia merger is complete, OWN and Wbtv will become vertically integrated, with HBO Max as OWN’s corporate sibling streamer. According to sources,...

There was a lot to unpack in Tuesday’s installment of David Makes Man, but one theme kept emerging — men need to embrace their emotions more.
Nowhere was this more obvious than when Jg got out of the hospital and asked David about the unspoken tension between their mother Gloria and his wife Trisha. At first, David tried to deflect the question by saying his younger brother should ask Gloria what happened. When that didn’t work, David admitted that he had a hard time seeing Jg connected to all those breathing and feeding tubes and fighting for his life after being shot.

Today's news of Bill Cosby's release from prison has generated tons of controversy, but one person who's thrilled about the news is Phylicia Rashad. From 1984-1992, Rashad co-starred as Cosby's wife on the NBC sitcom The Cosby Show. She later spent several more years working with Cosby as his co-star on the separate sitcom Cosby that aired from 1996-2000 and did voiceover work for Cosby's animated series Little Bill from 1999-2004.
Though Cosby's image has drastically changed as a result of the allegations of sexual assault and his subsequent incarceration, Phylicia Rashad never turned her back on her old television co-star. She had publicly defended him at various points over the past several years, continuing to believe in his innocence. Shortly after it was announced that Cosby is going free, Rashad hopped on Instagram to post an image of Bill along with this message:
