"Gateway horror" is a hot topic among genre fans. Movies and shows that mixed kid-friendly content with more mature scares initiated many young viewers into the horror world, and for many, such a gateway was found in Eerie, Indiana. Though it only ran for a single season, the 1991 series has since gained a cult following, inspiring horror aficionados like Alex Hirsch, the mind behind Gravity Falls.
Eerie, Indiana may have looked like an ordinary kids' show on the surface, but it offered its young fans dark thrills worthy of The Twilight Zone and The X-Files. Under the creative guidance of Joe Dante, the genius behind modern classics like Gremlins and The 'Burbs, the show blended family entertainment with sharp social satire and considerable spookiness, leaving a lasting impression on its rapt audience. It may only have lasted 19 episodes, but Eerie, Indiana is still a must for fans of Goosebumps and...

Red Hot Chili Peppers’ music has always been tied to California throughout their 40-plus-year career, and that was on full display during the Los Angeles band’s set at the FireAid benefit concert on Thursday night (January 30th).
The FireAid benefit took place in two arenas, the Kia Forum and the Intuit Dome, with proceeds going toward rebuilding the communities that have been devastated by the recent LA wildfires.
The Chili Peppers played the Forum, delivering a four-song set comprised of “Californication,” “Dani California,” “Black Summer,” and “Under the Bridge.”
While the first two songs’ connections to California are quite obvious, the other two songs also fit into theme of the band’s set.
“Black Summer,” from Rhcp’s 2022 album Unlimited Love, may not be directly tied to California, but its opening lines take on an eerie meaning considering the devastation that just took place in the Los Angeles area:...

Shortly after Nirvana’s surprise reunion at FireAid, the Red Hot Chili Peppers came together for the first time since the 2024 Olympics Closing Ceremony. They opened up with “Dani California,” and then launched into “Californication” and “Black Summer” before wrapping up with a singalong rendition of “Under The Bridge.”
“Love you so much Los Angeles,” Flea told the crowd, wearing nothing more than a pair of purple underpants. “Los Angeles is our home. We fuckin’ love you.”

The Walking Dead has been one of the most pivotal TV shows of the past 15 years, but there are a lot more shows for fans of that series to enjoy!
It's been a few years since The Walking Dead went off the air but it's never truly gone away. That's mostly due to the various spin-off series and how it's inspired other shows about people surviving a zombie apocalypse and/or the fall of civilization. That means a lot of copycat series, some better than others.
Some shows are pure zombie thrillers while others use a different type of threat. Yet they're great at showcasing tales of people trying to survive these sorts of supernatural affairs and the collapse of order. These are 15 TV shows fans of The Walking Dead should enjoy as a fun ride for people who want to see the end of the world in a great style.

In 2010, AMC Networks premiered The Walking Dead, an apocalyptic series that aired for 12 years across 11 seasons. Based on the comics created by Robert Kirkman, the series became wildly popular, beyond what anyone could have imagined, and has inspired other series within the genre.
The Walking Dead has been praised for its earliest and final seasons, with mixed reviews for its seventh and eighth seasons. While it is set in an undead apocalypse, the stories revolve around the survivors and their experiences after the outbreak occurred. Many viewers note this is why the series became so popular.
Long-standing cast members for the series include Andrew Lincoln, Norman Reedus, Steven Yeun, Chandler Riggs, Melissa McBride, Lauren Cohan, Danai Gurira, Josh McDermitt, Christian Serratos, Seth Gilliam, Ross Marquand, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan. Several of these characters' stories have continued in the long line of spinoffs of the main series. Let's check out some...

Netflix's new zombie horror movie has become a global streaming hit. Netflix has been producing original movies since the mid-2010s. Although they take on a variety of genres, they began making horror projects about a year in, with 2016's I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House. Their roster has significantly expanded since then to include movies such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Perfection, Apostle, and The Cloverfield Paradox, the Stephen King adaptations Gerald's Game, Mr. Harrigan's Phone, and In the Tall Grass, as well as the Fear Street trilogy and the Babysitter and Bird Box franchises.
Netflix has also dabbled in the zombie genre before, with their most successful feature-length installment in the genre most likely being Zack Snyder's Army of the Dead, which spawned the prequel Army of Thieves. On the series side, one of their most popular efforts is the South...

Stoll plays Adam, who has muscled his way from a local boy in Ohio to the white shoe law firms of New York City, but finds it difficult to embrace the high-class life his wife Chloe (Biel) has built around them. A devoted father, he worries about the impact their new wealth has on his son Ethan.

When it comes to TV shows about zombies, there's no point in arguing against the importance of a show like The Walking Dead. Released in 2010, created by Hollywood's horror master Frank Darabont, and based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, the show completely changed the TV landscape after fan favorites like Lost and Prison Break had come to an end. Suddenly, a new show had arrived, and though it was based on a horror subgenre that most people didn't seem to connect with, it presented a dramatic backdrop that was worth grabbing ourselves onto. Those that came after, spin-offs and others completely unrelated, didn't match The Walking Dead, even when it started fizzling out.
However, in the small universe of zombie TV shows, there's one that, in retrospect, could give The Walking Dead a run for its money. And it isn't exactly a huge production.

The horror TV series Z Nation was produced by The Asylum (a company best known for the Sharknado franchise and mockbusters) and aired on Syfy for five seasons, running for a total of 68 episodes from September 12, 2014 to December 28, 2018. It was back in 2018 that Syfy pulled the plug on The Asylum-produced zombie series “Z Nation,” ending the show after five seasons. But it seems “Z Nation” might be coming back…
The Asylum took to Twitter last night to tweet out a graphic promising a “major announcement soon” from the world of “Z Nation,” noting that the show’s “brief break” is almost over.
Created by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler, “Z Nation” was originally launched in 2014, with 68 total episodes airing across the five seasons that came to an end back in 2018.

Spyglass Media and Paramount Pictures wanted to move quickly on Scream 7… then the version of the film they wanted to move quickly on crumbled piece by piece. Scream (2022) and Scream VI directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett are finishing work on their Universal Monsters movie Abigail (formerly known as Dracula’s Daughter), so with returning writers James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick working on the script, the companies hired Freaky and Happy Death Day director Christopher Landon to direct the film and started reaching out to actors. Jenna Ortega allegedly wanted a substantial pay raise to reprise the role of Tara Carpenter… and as we saw when Neve Campbell dropped out of Scream VI due to a pay dispute, these pay issues don’t tend to work out. So Ortega was out, but Melissa Barrera was on board to come back as Tara’s sister Samantha. Until she was fired from...

The intense zombie series “Black Summer” returned to Netflix for its second season on June 17, 2021, but it’s now been nearly three years since we last heard a peep from the series.
So what’s the deal? Is “Black Summer” Season 3 ever going to bite its way onto Netflix? Well, a report from What’s on Netflix this week suggests the series has been cancelled.
The site reports, “Black Summer was expected to have been ghost-canceled last year, but finally, we’ve got confirmation that the series won’t be returning for a third outing on Netflix.”
This news comes as no big surprise, as series creator John Hyams (Sick) had responded to a tweet back in April 2023 with a simple “Sadly, nah,” when asked if “Black Summer” Season 3 was ever going to happen. It seems the final nail has now been hammered in.

Jason Statham's latest action thriller, The Beekeeper, has received an R rating for its strong violence, pervasive language, sexual references, and drug use. The violence and gore in The Beekeeper are considered severe and consistent throughout the film, which is expected given Statham's filmography. The Beekeeper will likely be more violent and intense than Statham's PG-13 films, delivering a similar dose of violence to recent films like Wrath of Man and Redemption.
Jason Statham's latest action thriller The Beekeeper was given an R rating by the MPAA, which isn't unusual for the celebrated actor known for his high-octane characters. In The Beekeeper, Statham plays Adam Clay, a man who sets out on a violent revenge mission and is revealed to be part of a powerful secret society known as the Beekeepers. Statham is coming off a massive 2023 in which he plays integral roles in three major franchises such as Expend4bles,...

A New Year is just around the corner, and Netflix’s upcoming roster of Original titles includes over 100 returning shows that will be back for new seasons. Some Netflix shows remain unclear on whether they’ll ever return, and in the case of the below, we suspect they’ve all been quietly canceled.
For these shows, we refer to them as ghost canceled. This means they’ve been effectively canceled behind the scenes but haven’t been publicly announced. These announcements are either because Netflix won’t confirm or nobody behind the show publicly announced the cancelation.
As always, cancelations are due to a number of reasons. With a few of these, it’ll be purely down to the length of time since the last season premiered, and then you’ve got the usual issues of performance.

Gear up for a new season of Amazon’s breakout action hit Reacher, which is based on the popular novels by Lee Child that served as the basis for Tom Cruise’s attempted franchise, Jack Reacher. Although Cruise’s film adaptation was able to capitalize with the sequel, Jack Reacher: Never Go Back, Prime Video’s Reacher series aimed to stick closer to the novels and presents a new case for each season. For example, major characters from season one, like Roscoe and Oscar Finlay, will not play prominent roles in this season. Prime Video has just released the teaser for tomorrow’s premiere for the trailer to season 2 of the Alan Ritchson-starring drama.
According to ScreenRant, “Reacher season 2 will be based on Child’s book Bad Luck and Trouble, the 11th book in the ongoing series. In the book, Reacher is contacted by someone from his former military unit,...

Generally speaking, TV is a less frightening medium than film. (Broadcast news notwithstanding.) Part of that’s the serialized nature of the format; it can be difficult to get really scared wondering whether Scully and Mulder will make it out of any given “X-Files” nightmare when there are 18 or so installments left in the season and you know the show can’t go on without its star characters. It doesn’t help matters that network standards have also kept horror TV decidedly tamer than anything found in R-rated horror efforts for decades; you just can’t put a Rob Zombie or Eli Roth joint anywhere.
And yet, in spite of those disadvantages, the genre has positively flourished on television as of late, with plenty of creepy limited series and spooky serialized dramas bringing terror to the small screen. Audiences curious about what caused this phenomenon can thank “American Horror Story,...

John Hyams, director of the very cool 2020 thriller Alone, recently teamed up with Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson to bring us the pandemic slasher Sick, which is set in April of 2020. Right after the world shut down due to Covid-19. The film was released through the Peacock streaming service back in January – and now it has also received a DVD and digital release! Sick can be viewed on Amazon’s Prime Video at This Link, and copies of the DVD can be purchased Here.
Scripted by Katelyn Crabb (who was credited as Williamson’s assistant on Scream 2022) from a story by Williamson, Sick takes place when the country locks down due to the pandemic and college student Parker and her best friend decide to quarantine at the family lake house alone – or so they think.

Kevin Williamson (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer) returned to the slasher movie arena with Sick, which premiered exclusively on Peacock on January 13, 2023.
Eight months later, Sick has now been released onto Digital and DVD today.
You can watch the official trailer for Sick below, a Covid-era slasher that finds two friends being stalked by a masked maniac while they’re quarantining at a remote lake house.
John Hyams (Universal Soldier: Day of Reckoning, “Black Summer”) directed Sick from a story by Williamson, and it’s described as a “lean, mean, and wickedly timely slasher.”

The Walking Dead enjoyed a prolonged run of eleven seasons, generating interest among viewers to check out similar zombie shows across multiple genres and countries. After witnessing the survivalist adventures of Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and many other drifters affected by the zombie apocalypse, viewers can explore the numerous ongoing spin-offs and prequels that the AMC show has spawned. Ever since The Walking Dead pilot aired first in 2010, the zombie genre has gone on to be reinterpreted in wildly creative ways. For instance, Santa Clarita Diet played out as a dark romantic comedy with zombie tropes while Kingdom reimagined the undead in medieval Korean history.
But among the new-age zombie shows, fans of The Walking Dead would opt for more conventional picks that delve into themes of human survival and brutal bloodshed. Still, there’s a scope for even these hyperviolent shows to play around a zombie invasion in diverse settings.

Lollapalooza 2023 is a wrap. During the festival’s fourth and final day, rain continued to soak Chicago’s Grant Park. Thankfully, by headlining time, the bad weather had subsided, but not before leaving plenty of puddles for festival attendees to navigate and slippery mud all around.
It wouldn’t have been a proper Lollapalooza without hometown rapper Chance the Rapper popping up at some point during the weekend. He did just that during Joey Bada$$’s set earlier on Sunday evening, performing “No Problem” and “The Highs & the Lows.”

What was once a promising landscape of streaming movies and television has now begun evolving and—some would argue—devolving. Companies are making cuts across the board including Netflix, who is notorious for cancelling their shows before they even have a chance to grow. Probably one of their best horror series to date has been “Black Summer,” a show that has shown immense promise but was at risk of cancellation from season one. The spiritual prequel to “Z Nation,” the John Hyams created horror drama proved to be a powerhouse of a zombie apocalypse series, spawning enough fan demand that it managed to earn a second season.
The well received second season came to an end on June 17, 2021. Since then it’s been virtual radio silence from Netflix and The Asylum on whether we’re ever going to see a third season, and much to fans’ horror, creator Hyams confirmed...

Syfy's Z Nation was canceled after five seasons despite there being notable demand online for Z Nation season six. Before The Walking Dead, the idea of a zombie TV show becoming a major hit seemed unlikely. The zombie movie genre had been largely dormant when it was given a major shot in the arm with 2002's 28 Days Later and Resident Evil, and it wasn't long until the hordes were on the march again in every medium. The Walking Dead proved zombies and TV were a match made in heaven, and before long, more zombie shows, like Z Nation, emerged. Unlike The Walking Dead though, Z Nation season 6 and beyond never saw the light of day. So why was Z Nation canceled despite having a loyal fanbase?

Music’s biggest night is officially here! The 2023 Grammy Awards are set to reward some of the most popular artists of the last year with a golden gramophone for their contributions to radio, streaming, soundtracks, TikToks and more!

“Don’t Shut Me Down” — Abba
“Easy On Me” — Adele
“Break My Soul” — Beyoncé

The first batch of winners at the 2023 Grammy Awards has been announced! The show is far from over, and Beyoncé has already become the most-awarded artist in the Recording Academy's history. Other performers are also cleaning up with exciting wins. This year's main event is, once again, hosted by Trevor Noah - who served as the Mc in 2021 and 2022 - who, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, teased that it'll be "the most star-studded room the Grammys has been for many, many years."

Beyoncé took home four awards, bringing her career total to 32 — enough to unseat composer Georg Solti as the winningest artist of all time. But this marks the fourth time in a row she’s lost Album of the Year. An astonishing fact for the Grammy record-holder.
Bonnie Raitt pulled an upset in Song of the Year for “Just Like That,” besting the likes of Lizzo, Taylor Swift and Beyoncé.
Lizzo, meanwhile, became the first Black woman to win Record of the Year since Whitney Houston in 1994 for “I Will Always Love You.” Lizzo won for “About Damn Time,” stressing the need for positive,...

This year is already off to an incredible start for the horror genre, with M3GAN scaring up big time profits in theaters and “The Last of Us” getting set to elevate horror television on HBO.
Much like last week, this second week of 2023 is similarly home to several exciting new horror releases, including the return of Kevin Williamson plus the arrival of a viral horror indie.
Not to mention, this Friday is the first Friday the 13th of 2023!
Here’s all the new horror releasing January 10 – January 13, 2023…
First up, from Ryûhei Kitamura, the director of Midnight Meat Train, comes Lionsgate’s The Price We Pay, which just debuted on VOD this Tuesday and comes to select theaters Friday.
Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild) and Stephen Dorff (Blade) star in The Price We Pay, which looks like a genre fusion of an action-thriller and a slasher movie all in one crazy package.
