Red Hot Chili Peppers’ music has always been tied to California throughout their 40-plus-year career, and that was on full display during the Los Angeles band’s set at the FireAid benefit concert on Thursday night (January 30th).

The FireAid benefit took place in two arenas, the Kia Forum and the Intuit Dome, with proceeds going toward rebuilding the communities that have been devastated by the recent LA wildfires.

The Chili Peppers played the Forum, delivering a four-song set comprised of “Californication,” “Dani California,” “Black Summer,” and “Under the Bridge.”

While the first two songs’ connections to California are quite obvious, the other two songs also fit into theme of the band’s set.

Actor Bchir Sylvain, known for his roles in Diarra From Detroit and Black Summer, has joined the cast of the upcoming Jurassic World film. This latest instalment in the long-running dinosaur franchise is being directed by Gareth Edwards and written by David Koepp, who penned the original Jurassic Park as well as its sequel, The Lost World. When it comes to TV shows about zombies, there's no point in arguing against the importance of a show like The Walking Dead. Released in 2010, created by Hollywood's horror master Frank Darabont, and based on the comic book by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, the show completely changed the TV landscape after fan favorites like Lost and Prison Break had come to an end. Suddenly, a new show had arrived, and though it was based on a horror subgenre that most people didn't seem to connect with, it presented a dramatic backdrop that was worth grabbing ourselves onto. Those that came after, spin-offs and others completely unrelated, didn't match The Walking Dead, even when it started fizzling out.

However, in the small universe of zombie TV shows, there's one that, in retrospect, could give The Walking Dead a run for its money. And it isn't exactly a huge production.

The horror TV series Z Nation was produced by The Asylum (a company best known for the Sharknado franchise and mockbusters) and aired on Syfy for five seasons, running for a total of 68 episodes from September 12, 2014 to December 28, 2018. After that show wrapped up, a prequel series called Black Summer ran for two seasons (released in 2019 and 2021) on the Netflix streaming service. If you’ve been wondering when Black Summer is going to return for a third season… well, it looks like it’s not going to, because the folks at What’s on Netflix have confirmed that Netflix quietly “ghost cancelled” the show. It was back in 2018 that Syfy pulled the plug on The Asylum-produced zombie series “Z Nation,” ending the show after five seasons. But it seems “Z Nation” might be coming back…

The Asylum took to Twitter last night to tweet out a graphic promising a “major announcement soon” from the world of “Z Nation,” noting that the show’s “brief break” is almost over.

Created by Karl Schaefer and Craig Engler, “Z Nation” was originally launched in 2014, with 68 total episodes airing across the five seasons that came to an end back in 2018.

Syfy’s “Z Nation,” the show’s Wikipedia page reminds, “begins three years into a zombie apocalypse caused by a virus that has already killed most humans. The series revolves around the travels of a small group of survivors being led through the apocalypse.”

The new action film Lights Out has stepped into the ring for viewers to enjoy. Frank Grillo stars as a mysterious wanderer who is haunted by a past of seeing his comrades die in combat and now finds himself thrust into the underground world of mixed-martial arts fighting. The intense zombie series “Black Summer” returned to Netflix for its second season on June 17, 2021, but it’s now been nearly three years since we last heard a peep from the series.

So what’s the deal? Is “Black Summer” Season 3 ever going to bite its way onto Netflix? Well, a report from What’s on Netflix this week suggests the series has been cancelled.

The site reports, “Black Summer was expected to have been ghost-canceled last year, but finally, we’ve got confirmation that the series won’t be returning for a third outing on Netflix.”

This news comes as no big surprise, as series creator John Hyams (Sick) had responded to a tweet back in April 2023 with a simple “Sadly, nah,” when asked if “Black Summer” Season 3 was ever going to happen. It seems the final nail has now been hammered in.

Nearly two years since the beginning of their tour, the Red Hot Chili Peppers continue to make fan dreams come true all over the world. This February, though, they will be performing in their home country, where they are scheduled to conclude their two-year tour in Missouri.

The tour supports their two latest albums, Unlimited Love and Return of the Dream Canteen. Both were released in 2022, with Unlimited Love released in April and Return of the Dream Canteen in October.

Many successful artists served as their opening acts throughout this tour, including Asap Rocky, Post Malone and Iggy Pop. On the upcoming shows, fans can expect to see rapper Ken Carson, Kid Cudi, rock band Wand, Ice Cube, Nigerian Singer Seun Kuti and Japanese punk rock band Otoboke Beaver.

A New Year is just around the corner, and Netflix’s upcoming roster of Original titles includes over 100 returning shows that will be back for new seasons. Some Netflix shows remain unclear on whether they’ll ever return, and in the case of the below, we suspect they’ve all been quietly canceled.

For these shows, we refer to them as ghost canceled. This means they’ve been effectively canceled behind the scenes but haven’t been publicly announced. These announcements are either because Netflix won’t confirm or nobody behind the show publicly announced the cancelation.

As always, cancelations are due to a number of reasons. With a few of these, it’ll be purely down to the length of time since the last season premiered, and then you’ve got the usual issues of performance.

Generally speaking, TV is a less frightening medium than film. (Broadcast news notwithstanding.) Part of that’s the serialized nature of the format; it can be difficult to get really scared wondering whether Scully and Mulder will make it out of any given “X-Files” nightmare when there are 18 or so installments left in the season and you know the show can’t go on without its star characters. It doesn’t help matters that network standards have also kept horror TV decidedly tamer than anything found in R-rated horror efforts for decades; you just can’t put a Rob Zombie or Eli Roth joint anywhere.

John Hyams, director of the very cool 2020 thriller Alone, recently teamed up with Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson to bring us the pandemic slasher Sick, which is set in April of 2020. Right after the world shut down due to Covid-19. The film was released through the Peacock streaming service back in January – and now it has also received a DVD and digital release! Kevin Williamson (Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer) returned to the slasher movie arena with Sick, which premiered exclusively on Peacock on January 13, 2023.

Eight months later, Sick has now been released onto Digital and DVD today.

The Walking Dead enjoyed a prolonged run of eleven seasons, generating interest among viewers to check out similar zombie shows across multiple genres and countries. After witnessing the survivalist adventures of Rick Grimes, Daryl Dixon, and many other drifters affected by the zombie apocalypse, viewers can explore the numerous ongoing spin-offs and prequels that the AMC show has spawned. Ever since The Walking Dead pilot aired first in 2010, the zombie genre has gone on to be reinterpreted in wildly creative ways. For instance, Santa Clarita Diet played out as a dark romantic comedy with zombie tropes while Kingdom reimagined the undead in medieval Korean history.

But among the new-age zombie shows, fans of The Walking Dead would opt for more conventional picks that delve into themes of human survival and brutal bloodshed. Still, there’s a scope for even these hyperviolent shows to play around a zombie invasion in diverse settings.

The winners are in for the 2023 iHeartRadio Music Awards!

Celebrating the most-played artists and songs on iHeartRadio stations and the app from last year, the 10th edition of the awards ceremony featured a star-studded list of nominees, including Taylor Swift, Lizzo, Harry Styles, Dua Lipa, Beyoncé, Drake, Bad Bunny and many more.

This year, the show, which is airing live from Los Angeles Monday night on Fox, was hosted by Lenny Kravitz, who also took the stage to perform.

Voting for the awards opened in May, giving listeners the chance to decide winners in several new and established categories, with fan voting determining several categories, including this year’s Best Lyrics, Best Music Video, Best Fan Army and more.

The 10th annual iHeartRadio Music Awards are in the books, and the ceremony gathered together some of the industry's hottest stars for an evening celebrating the last year of radio hits, can't-miss tracks, and cultural touchstones.

Heading into the award show on March 27 in Los Angeles at the iconic Dolby Theatre, the nominations were led by stars including Lizzo, Harry Styles, Jack Harlow, Doja Cat, and Taylor Swift - who also took home the evening's Innovator Award. Iconic pop star Pink was also awarded a trophy, as she was honored with the iHeartRadio Icon Award for her decades-long career. Swift and Styles were ultimately the night's big winners, with Swift taking home song of the year for her hit single "Anti-Hero" and the British crooner being named artist of the year.

Other honorees included Doja Cat, who was named the most played artist, and Luke Combs, the winner of country album of the year.

Alan Ritchson can be seen this summer adding his muscles to Vin Diesel’s Fast X, but the hulking actor is also back for season 2 of his breakout role in Reacher for Prime Video. According to Deadline, Ritchson is joined this season by Serinda Swan (Coroner), Ferdinand Kingsley (Sandman) and Rory Cochrane (Winning Time).

In addition, this season will also feature Domenick Lombardozzi (Magnum P.I.), along with Luke Bilyk (DeGrassi: The Next Generation), Dean McKenzie (Shooter), Edsson Morales (Black Summer), Andres Collantes (Two Sentence Horror Stories), Shannon Kook-Chun (The 100), Ty Victor Olsson (Supernatural), Josh Blacker (See), and Al Sapienza (Coroner). Beyoncé leads the pack in nominations this year with nine, followed by Kendrick Lamar with eight and Adele and Brandi Carlile with seven apiece.

The selection process for the Grammy Awards was altered last May, following very public criticisms from The Weeknd. The show no longer uses anonymous review committees to determine its nominees, however, this year also saw prominent artists like Drake and Silk Sonic declining to submit their latest projects for consideration.
