Ed Harris — recently seen starring alongside Kristen Stewart in “Love Lies Bleeding” — is getting back behind the camera to direct his own adaptation of Kim Zupan’s acclaimed novel “The Ploughmen.” Owen Teague, currently playing the lead in “Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes,” Nick Nolte and Bill Murray have come on board to star in the neo-noir crime thriller, which will go into production in Montana this Fall. Amy Madigan and Lily Harris are also set for the film.
“The Ploughmen” will mark Harris’ third feature as director after his Western “Appaloosa” and multi-Oscar nominated “Pollock.” Described being in the vein of “Hell or High Water” and “Wind River,” the film is set in the wilderness of Montana, where a strange friendship develops between a haunted young deputy sheriff and a notorious old murderer. John Gload (Nolte) is a killer so adept at his job that only now has he been apprehended.

The cast of the Percy Jackson and the Olympians Disney+ show is already fairly big, but it still needs to add one unseen character from the books. The upcoming TV show will be the second live-action adaptation of author Rick Riordan's Percy Jackson series, with poorly-received movies based on the first two books being released in the early 2010s. The Disney+ Percy Jackson show has promised to be much more faithful to the source material, but it does need to stray somewhat, specifically by adding one major character.
Many exciting details about the Percy Jackson show have been revealed so far, including the fact that each season will only cover one book. This will counteract the problem that the Percy Jackson movies had of rushed pacing, meaning the TV show will have more time to explore and flesh out side characters. Although Disney+'s Percy Jackson and the Olympians is yet to be released, one show-inspired book already suggests that the series will be a success. Based on the acclaimed literary series by Rick Riordan, Disney's Percy Jackson isn't the only attempted adaptation of the beloved source material. However, where other efforts largely failed, one connection to the novels means that this project could thrive.
The original Percy Jackson series spans five fantasy novels. Starting with The Lightning Thief and concluding with The Last Olympian, the Percy Jackson saga was a consistent commercial hit, inevitably attracting the attention of Hollywood. A cinematic adaptation entitled Percy Jackson & The Olympians: The Lightning Thief was released in 2010 under the direction of Harry Potter alumnus Chris Columbus. A second film, Sea of Monsters, followed in 2013, but plans for a third entry, Titan's Curse were put on hold following the previous movie's middling critical and commercial reception.

The Percy Jackson franchise is getting another shot with the Percy Jackson and the Olympians TV show, and six major details have been revealed that make the show incredibly exciting. This will be the first live-action Percy Jackson adaptation since the Percy Jackson film series, which only covered the first two books and ended after 2013's Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. Things look bright for the Disney+ Percy Jackson and the Olympian TV show, with these six reveals showing just how good the show could be.

As fans of the franchise await the show's arrival, author Rick Riordan reveals how adapting his work for Disney+ inspired him to write a sixth Percy Jackson book. The popularity of Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians book series led to two movie adaptations, a follow-up book series also about Greek mythology called The Heroes of Olympus, along with writing book series about other mythologies, including The Kane Chronicles and Magnus Chase. A hunger for more stories about Percy Jackson and mythology then led to Disney+ adapting Riordan's Percy Jackson and the Olympians series as a television show.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly about his upcoming book, Percy Jackson and the Chalice of the Gods, Riordan shared how the story idea first came to him when working with Disney. Percy Jackson fans were hoping that actor Logan Lerman would be cast as Poseidon for the upcoming Disney+ TV show, but this would have been a mistake. Instead, actor Toby Stephens will be playing the god of the sea in the Percy Jackson TV show, and was a much better choice than Lerman. While Logan Lerman would surely do a great job in the role, it is a good thing that Disney+ did not cast him in Percy Jackson for several key reasons.
Logan Lerman played the titular demigod in the original live-action Percy Jackson movies, with the actor starring in both films. Although the Percy Jackson movies had problems, they retain a dedicated fan base due to the franchise's popularity. Viewers of the original films floated the idea on social media that Lerman could come back for the Disney+ series, and although he is too old for Percy himself,...

While it was Becky Riordan who first updated fans about the wrap, Disney+ too recently affirmed the production’s end with a video post on Twitter.

Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan hints at a season 2 renewal for Percy Jackson and the Olympians. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is a Disney+ adaptation of the Percy Jackson book series and promise to follow Percy's first quest as he journeys across the United States in pursuit of Zeus' stolen lightning bolt. Season 1 will serve as an introduction to the iconic original questing team of Percy, Annabeth, and Grover as they set about trying to fix the world and keep the people of Camp Half-Blood safe.
With Riordan involved in filming and planning for the show, it is likely to be significantly more aligned with a true adaptation than the original Percy Jackson movies. Though Percy Jackson and the Olympians isn't even done with production, there is already excitement building for it, and rumors have been flying that the show has already been renewed for a season 2. According to Percy Jackson creator Rick Riordan, the Percy Jackson and the Olympians cast is filming some difficult water scenes. Percy Jackson and the Olympians is an adaptation of Riordan's books, which follow the titular Percy as he discovers his true identity as the half-blood son of the Greek god Poseidon. Book adaptations are tricky business. There's so much expectation and weight behind that more often than not it's advised to try not to get your hopes up. That hasn't stopped any of us from giving into the hype, though, and after seeing the teaser trailer for the upcoming Disney+ series, "Percy Jackson and the Olympians," it's difficult not to feel that hope bubbling up beneath the surface.
We're already on good footing here, though. Rick Riordan, the author of the books, is heavily involved. After his rightful criticisms of the film series, having Riordan's signature on the series should settle fans' fears. Also, they didn't age up the characters this time and, with an eight episode season order, viewers will get more time to spend with Percy and his friends this go-round.
Featuring a brand-new cast of tweens, the series follows the titular Percy Jackson through a journey of self-discovery.

We finally have more details about the upcoming “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” series at Disney+. According to author and executive producer Rick Riordan, the plan is to tackle one book per season.
“It’s going to be, hopefully, one season for every book, which gives us time to do justice to the entire story, as opposed to a movie where you have to make some cuts,” Riordan told TheWrap during D23 Expo on Saturday.
The first season will focus on “The Lightning Thief,” which is the first book in the series, Riordan said. That book and the second, “The Sea of Monsters,” have already been adapted into feature films, but the other three books remain untouched by any adaptations thus far.

In the teaser, which debuted at the D23 Expo on Saturday, we get a look at Walker Scobell (“The Adam Project”) as the Lightning Thief himself.
“I didn’t want to be a Half Blood. Being a Half Blood is dangerous,” Percy laments as the camera pans over snippets of Camp Half Blood. He warns that, if you also sense you might be different, it might be best to ignore the signs.
“Once you know what you are, you’ll sense it too, and they’ll come for you,” he says ominously before the clip cuts to a closeup of his face as lightning crackles around him.

‘Percy Jackson’ Author Rick Riordan Slams Racist Backlash Against Leah Jeffries’ Casting as Annabeth
“Percy Jackson” author Rick Riordan published a blog post May 10 condemning the racist backlash against Leah Jeffries, the young actor who is set to play Annabeth Chase in the upcoming Disney+ series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.” Variety exclusively reported Jeffries’ casting on May 5. Ahead of the SXSW debut of their latest film, “Slash/Back,” three of the thriller’s producers —- Scythia Films’ Dan Bekerman and Stellar Citizens’ Chris Yurkovich and Alex Ordanis —- announced the launch of the new full-service production company, Good Question Media.
Bekerman, Yurkovich and Ordanis will serve as partners and producers in the new venture, which will oversee film and television projects, supporting them from inception through distribution and packaging with the Good Question Media development fund.
As one of the very few Canada-based private equity funds, the company is uniquely positioned to access the international treaty funding systems. But that’s just one way the veteran producers aim to use their combined expertise.
“We’ve always been united in the belief that a fundamental strength of storytelling is its ability to challenge how an audience thinks or sees the world,” Bekerman, Yurkovich and Ordanis told Variety in a joint statement.

One exciting project coming to Disney+ that is not Star Wars or Marvel related is their Percy Jackson series. Author Rick Riordan has provided an update recently to his blog, highlighting a recent trip he took to Los Angeles to continue moving forward with the series. Riordan announced last Spring that he would be producing an adaptation of his beloved YA series involving demigods and mythical creatures. Now, it seems like everything may be coming together.
"So where are we? Well, if I haven't been giving you updates as frequently as you'd like, that's just because there is really nothing new I can announce yet. The films will stream for free on Roku’s ad-supported Roku Channel, and not only is it yet another shift in the windows for theatrical films, it’s also the first pay-one licensing agreement for Roku. And the titles will be available in the U.S. and Canada after a theatrical run and a home entertainment release.
The first film to premiere under the agreement will be “Echo Boomers,” which stars Patrick Schwarzenegger and Michael Shannon and will release on June 15. Other titles included are “Happily” with Joel McHale, “Percy Vs Goliath” (US only) with Christopher Walken, Christina Ricci and Zach Braff and “Under the Stadium Lights” with Laurence Fishburne. More titles will be announced at a later date.

Roku, in its latest bid to pack more exclusive content into The Roku Channel, landed a deal with Saban Films giving the streaming platform pay-one window streaming rights to a select batch of movies from the boutique film acquisition and distribution company’s current slate.
It’s the first pay-one licensing agreement for Roku, making The Roku Channel the exclusive North American streaming home for some Saban movies about three months after they premiere in theaters. Roku has a 24-month exclusive streaming window on the films.
The deal covers fewer than a dozen titles from Saban Films, representing about one-third of the company’s 2021 film slate.
