Anne Rice’s biggest claim to fame will always be “Interview With the Vampire” and the ensuing Vampire Chronicles. However, most casual horror fans don’t know that her impressive catalog also features a multigenerational saga about a family of witches. Beginning with “The Witching Hour,” Rice wrote a trilogy of novels following a matrilineal line of magical women. AMC’s Mayfair Witches brings this saga to the fore with a star-studded adaptation of Rice’s dense source material. Alexandra Daddario stars as Rowan Fielding, a California brain surgeon and the 13th Mayfair witch who was whisked away at birth and knows nothing of her family’s occult history. Annabeth Gish is her mother Dierdre, an unfortunate prisoner in the family’s New Orleans home, and Jack Huston is the mysterious Lasher, a demonic presence haunting the women of the Mayfair line.

Things that go bump in the night will be honored at the first ParaPod Awards, set for Saturday, April 1 as part of the ParaPod Festival in Santa Clarita, Calif.
The awards honor the influencers and content creators who work in the paranormal genre.
“As a content producer and host myself, being able to create a platform to celebrate the paranormal genre and those content creators who are working in it has been a long-time goal,” says ParaPod founder Tony Sweet. “Influencers, podcasters, documentary filmmakers, television producers, and hosts who dare to cover topics like UFOs or Bigfoot often get overlooked by mainstream awards shows, and I want to change that.”
Podcasters whose content covered the paranormal were asked to submit their work in various categories via the ParaPod Festival website. A committee of listeners rated the podcasts in their selected categories to create a list of finalists. The finalist podcasts...

[Warning: The following contains Major spoilers for the Mayfair Witches Season 1 Episode 8 finale, “What Rough Beast.”] The Mayfair Witches finale brought one of The Witching Hour‘s most famous moments to the screen when Alexandra Daddario‘s Dr. Rowan Fielding gave birth to baby Lasher. Confused? So are we. But that’s the intention. The questions about baby Lasher’s parentage/general existence — is he Jack Huston‘s character “reborn?” Is he Lasher’s son? Ciprien’s (Tongayi Chirisa) son? — won’t be answered until Season 2. But TV Insider chatted with Huston to get his behind-the-scenes knowledge of the Mayfair Witches Season 1 finale on AMC. The finale clarified that Lasher, Cortland Mayfair (Harry Hamlin), the Talamasca, and generations of New Orleanian conspirators knew the Mayfair family’s prophecy and, in people like Cortland’s case, were pulling the strings to make the prophecy come to pass as soon as possible. The prophecy stated that the 13th Mayfair witch...

This article contains spoilers for Mayfair Witches episode 5.
In Mayfair Witches episode 5 “The Thrall,” Alexandra Daddario plays with double indemnity as her Dr. Rowan Fielding gets a taste of forbidden fruit, served up as a perennially fresh egg. Until recently, she was a neurosurgeon with a particularly special talent for predictive diagnosis, who found how to weaponize it. Now, as newly inherited designee of the Mayfair family, she is endowed with all the gifts of “the 13th Witch.” Rowan’s first dinner at the head of the table didn’t go very well, and it’s a damned shame. It started with a blessing.
For the majority of “The Thrall,” Rowan gets to spend quality time with Ciprien Grieve (Tongayi Chirisa), after the aftermath of the fiery and sticky attack of “Curiouser and Curiouser.” But the psychometry specialist of the occult research society Talamasca invests far greater quantity in the...

At a time when TV shows are being cancelled left and right, it’s always nice to report that one has been renewed. AMC is all-in on their small screen Anne Rice Universe, and we’ve learned this morning that “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” has just been renewed for Season 2.
The brand new series is an adaptation of Anne Rice’s novels in the “Mayfair Witches” saga, and it premiered January 8 on AMC and AMC+.
AMC’s “Interview with the Vampire” was also recently renewed for a second season.
“The success of both Mayfair Witches and Interview with the Vampire once again illustrates the strength and mastery of Anne Rice’s work,” said AMC’s Mark Johnson. “The fact that these first two shows are performing so splendidly with a TV audience gives us much pride in what we’ve already done and great anticipation for the storytelling opportunities yet to come.

The Anne Rice universe at AMC continues to expand. Today we found out that the network has officially greenlit the second season of "Mayfair Witches," the show based on the books by author Anne Rice. The television series centers around Rowan (Alexandra Daddario), a surgeon who becomes drawn to New Orleans after her adoptive mother dies, who finds out that she's part of a long line of witches who are intertwined with a mysterious, supernatural being named Lasher (John Huston).
"Mayfair Witches" is the second AMC Network show based on Anne Rice's work. The first series adaptation was "Interview With The Vampire," which had its first episode drop just a couple of months before "Mayfair." While "Mayfair Witches" wasn't as critically well-received as "Interview With The Vampire," the execs at AMC are apparently happy enough with it to give it at least one more season. "Interview With The Vampire" also...

This article contains spoilers for Mayfair Witches episode 4.
Mayfair Witches episode 4 “Curiouser and Curiouser” opens in Donnelaith, Scotland in 1681. The midwife Suzanne Mayfair (Hannah Alline) is being led through the woods to a secret meeting place to bid final farewell to the gifted healer who she guided into death. The witches who gather for a “true funeral” celebrate the life of their fallen sister, dancing in the moonlight as the magic moves into a new generation.
Anne Rice redefined immortal bloodsuckers with The Vampire Chronicles. She alchemized a new brew for her Mayfair Witches novel trilogy The Witching Hour (1990), Lasher (1993), and Taltos (1994), putting a personal spin on demonic sorcery. She also created her own demon, Lasher, played by Jack Huston on the series. But is he an evil entity? People have been asking “are you a good witch or a bad witch” long before a house fell out of the sky in Oz.

This post contains spoilers for the first three episodes of "Mayfair Witches."
"Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches" is AMC's second installment in what they hope will be an expanding Anne Rice universe. The story follows a surgeon named Rowan (Alexandria Daddario) who finds out she's actually from a multi-generational family of witches, with the first season adapting "The Witching Hour," Anne Rice's thousand-page first novel in her "Lives of the Mayfair Witches" series.
Converting such a long book into eight episodes is no small feat, and when I talked with "Mayfair Witches" showrunner Esta Spalding during the Television Critics Association winter press tour, she acknowledged that not everything in the first book made it into the season. "We had a whiteboard that was the greatest hits that we had to use, and of course we couldn't use them all," she told me.
There are, however, a lot of memorable moments...
