Apple TV+ has announced an eight-episode second season for the German-language dark comedy Where’s Wanda? UFA Fiction produces the series.

The series stars International Emmy Award nominee Heike Makatsch (Love Actually), German Comedy Award winner Axel Stein (The Vault), multiple award-winning actress Lea Drinda (The Gryphon) and Leo Simon, as they return for season two of this “colorful, quirky caper.”

Following its global debut, Where’s Wanda? has been hailed as an “electrifying,” “standout” series keeping “viewers on the edge of their seats” with “a unique blend of dark comedy and suspense,” and featuring “immensely likable, and often affecting performances” by its “talented cast.”

Apple TV+ has given the greenlight to a second season of its debut German original Where’s Wanda?.

Starring Heike Makatsch (Love Actually) and Axel Stein (The Vault), the dark comedy follows the Klatts. Just as they thought their lives were finally returning to normal, their daughter Wanda (Lea Drinda) is caught seemingly red-handed, standing over a dead body. They will need to do everything in their power to prove her innocence and to avoid losing her again, as their investigation to find the real murderer takes them into the criminal underbelly of their sleepy suburban town.

Where’s Wanda? is produced by Germany’s UFA Fiction. It is one of a number of Apple TV+ non-English language shows, joining the likes of France’s La Maison and Spain’s You Would Do It Too. Anonymous Content has partnered with independent production company btf (Bildundtonfabrik) on a new joint venture in Germany, one of Europe’s leading markets.

The partnership will kick off with Ari Folman’s anticipated next project, “Death and the Penguin,” which is based on a novel by Andrey Kurkov.

Damian Hardung has opened up on filming the sophomore season of Maxton Hall – The World Between Us.

Avoiding specific spoilers but speaking broadly about his character James Beaufort’s arc in the upcoming series, he said: “I just did the Adr for it and the second season is really dark and [there’s] a lot of grief and trauma in my character.”

He added: “I had a really tough time shooting that, it really pushed me to a point where I’m like: ‘I don’t know if that’s healthy anymore.’ So, I’m really eager to see how that played out on screen.”

Confirming Germany’s importance as a growth market, Netfix on Wednesday announced 17 new and returning shows and movies produced by some of the country’s leading producers, including docuseries “Kaulitz & Kaulitz,” about the Tokio Hotel popstar siblings, and sci-fi drama “Cassandra,” about an overzealous electronic household helper.

Estonia’s Tallinn Black Nights Film Festival (Poff) has unveiled this year’s Black Nights Stars, spotlighting eight rising actors from the Baltic Sea region.

Argonon Group, the parent company behind “The Masked Singer U.K.,” has appointed former Jupiter Entertainment executive VP Steve McGovern as COO of its U.S. business with a remit across Leopard USA, Rose Rock Entertainment and future U.S. operations including acquisitions.

Argonon, a global production group headquartered in the U.K. and U.S., owns Scottish indie production company Bandicoot, which makes the U.K. version of “The Masked Singer” as well as “The Masked Dancer.”

As part of the group’s strategic shift to the West Coast and upscaled focus on streamers, networks and platforms, McGovern’s role will be based in Los Angeles. Internationale Filmschule Köln’s showrunner programme is headed by ’Borgen’ writer Jeppe Gjervig Gram

As the role of showrunner becomes increasingly important in European series production, the ifs Internationale Filmschule Köln’s European Showrunner Programme has secured an additional three years of funding from Creative Europe – Media Programme of the European Union.

The Film-und-Medienstiftung Nrw is on board as a funding partner and Netflix is continuing to support the programme both financially and in terms of experts and content. In addition to Series Mania and the Film Festival Cologne, the ifs has gained the Seriencamp and the Film Festival Göteborg as new festival partners.

Comedy actors Anke Engelke and Bastian Pastewka will star in a new German original series for Amazon Prime Video to be produced by Bildundtonfabrik.

The series is due to appear on the platform next year. Further details on the show have yet to be announced.

“Anke Engelke and Bastian Pastewka are a real dream team in front of the camera. Viewers can look forward to their first series project together on Prime Video,” said Philip Pratt, head of German originals for Prime Video.

On Tuesday, the Netflix German-language team presented a selection of 19 productions, including previously announced projects, at the Content Remote Show. The shows are from Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Vlog Squad member Jeff Wittek currently has a hit docuseries rolling out on YouTube, but the 31-year-old -- who is sharing the story of how he injured his eye during a stunt gone awry -- has also brought the project to a brand new Patreon account, where he’s achieved unfathomable success.

Three episodes of the series, titled Don’t Try This At Home, are currently live on Wittek’s YouTube channel, which, prior to the accident, housed another venture titled Jeff’s Barbershop, where Wittek welcomed celebrity guests for interviews while offering up haircuts.

Wittek launched a corresponding Patreon account on April 19 in tandem with Don’t Try This At Home, stating that he planned to share behind-the-scenes content, bonus videos, and other moments from the series that had to be restricted due to YouTube guidelines.
