The upcoming Peacock crime thriller series “M.I.A.” has added three series regulars, Variety has learned.

Shannon Gisela (“Chasers”), Brittany Adebumola and Dylan Jackson are all set to star in the series, which was originally picked up back in August 2024 with a straight-to-series order.

Per the official logline, “Running drugs is a family affair for Etta Tiger Jonze (Gisela), but when the family business is threatened, Etta is thrust into a life she never expected, forcing her to use her wits to survive as she navigates Miami’s criminal underground.”

Adebumola will play Lovely, while Jackson will play Stanley.

Gisela is repped by Brs/Gage and Power Entertainment Group. Adebumola is repped by Cesd Talent Agency, Authentic Talent and Literary Management and Schreck Rose. Jackson is repped by TCA and Link Entertainment.

Since Amy is one of the main characters in Woman of the Hour's storyline, it is hard not to question what happened to the real person, Monique Hoyt, on whom she is based. Directed by Anna Kendrick, Woman of the Hour primarily recounts the events of the chilling Dating Game episode that featured serial killer Rodney Alcala as one of the contestants. While walking through how Alcala won a date with Cheryl Bradshaw on The Dating Game before getting rejected by her, the movie also jumps to other timelines that highlight Rodney Alcala's serial killer history.

One of these timelines focuses on Alcala's encounter with a young girl named Amy. In the movie's storyline, Alcala convinces Amy he is a professional photographer and asks her to model for him.

You never know who you might meet on a dating show — but you might just know some of the faces you’ll see on said show in “Woman of the Hour.”

Directed by Anna Kendrick — marking her directorial debut — the film, now streaming on Netflix, tells the bizarrely true story of how a serial killer went on “The Dating Game,” and won. Just in time for Monday’s Emmy awards, the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative and Dr. Stacy L. Smith, along with the the Adobe Foundation, have unveiled The Inclusion List for episodic programming, which recognizes the most inclusive series in broadcast, cable and streaming.

Following a similar effort for films, the list analyzes on-screen and behind-the-camera personnel from more than 500 programs to determine the 100 most inclusive broadcast and cable series from the 2021-22 broadcast season, as well as streaming series from 2021 to 2023. The project also recognizes 20 producers responsible for the most inclusive content.

Fargo star Anji White has joined the cast of Marvel Studios' Ironheart as a series regular.

According to Deadline, the actor is believed to be playing Riri William's mom, Ronnie, in the upcoming Disney+ series, which is set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. White is perhaps best known for playing Dibrell Smutny in the fourth season of Fargo. Other acting credits include guest appearances on Empire, Chicago Med, Chicago P.D. and 4400. The role of genius inventor Riri Williams/Ironheart in Ironheart will be played by Dominique Thorne, reprising the role from the 2022 movie, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever.

Anji White is a series regular in Marvel’s upcoming Disney+ limited series Ironheart Deadline has learned.

The six-episode Ironheart, created by Chinaka Hodge, stars Dominique Thorne as Marvel character Riri Williams, a genius inventor and creator of the most advanced suit of armor since Iron Man.

White is believed to be playing Rir’s mom, Ronnie. A rep for Marvel declined comment.

Previously announced cast for Ironheart, which has wrapped production, also includes Anthony Ramos, Manny Montana, Shakira Barrera, Alden Ehrenreich, Regan Aliyah, Shea Couleé, Zoe Terakes, Paul Calderón and Cree Summer.

Additionally, as Deadline reported, Sacha Baron Cohen is said to be playing for a role, believed to be a comic book villain, likely Mephisto.

Chicago native White is probably best known for her role as Dibrell Smutney in Season 4 of FX’s Fargo. She has also appeared in The Chi, 4400, Empire, Chicago Med and Chicago P.

Gabrielle Union is set to be the prime suspect in a murder mystery at Amazon’s Prime Video.

The actress will star in and executive produce Pretty Little Wife, a thriller in the works from A+E Studios and Amazon Studios. It’s based on Darby Kane’s best-selling novel of the same name, with Meredith Lavender, Marcie Ulin and Kristen SaBerre adapting the book.

Pretty Little Wife is described as “a cat-and-mouse thriller with a pulpy edge and some sexy soap that centers around two brilliant — and very different — Black women: Lily (Union), the pretty little wife suspected of murdering her husband, and Ginny, the detective on the case. Upon entering each other’s lives, they begin to crack open each other’s facade to reveal what really lies beneath.”

The project is the latest book adaptation for Prime Video, which has recently put projects based on Catherine Ryan Howard’s 56 Days and Jennifer L.

This year’s Best Actress winner at the Academy Awards, Michelle Yeoh, has announced the first project of her post-Oscar career. New CW Entertainment president Brad Schwartz has one job: Make The CW profitable for the first time ever — and do it by 2025, as new parent company Nexstar promised Wall Street.

On Wednesday, the day his post was announced, Schwartz told IndieWire that he “hopes to beat” the deadline.

“It’s definitely not going to be easy,” said Schwartz, whose official start date is November 7. Already, he said, there are some pieces in place, including “a lot” of revenue from ad sales and digital. “We’re not starting from absolute scratch.”

Schwartz has made a career out of turnarounds, launches, and rebrands. There’s been seven to date, the most notable being the time he rebranded the TV Guide Network as Pop TV, which brought us “Schitt’s Creek” and “One Day at a Time.” We began our telephone conversation by asking Schwartz if The CW needs a new name.

Roughly 30-40 employees of The CW were laid off on Tuesday by new owner Nexstar Media, IndieWire has learned.

The move is the first large scale overhaul at the CW after Nexstar, the largest television-station owner in the United States, took control of the channel’s operation on October 3. Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global, The CW’s previous owners, sold a majority of their unprofitable joint venture to Nexstar in June.

Among those laid off on Tuesday were Paul Hewitt, the CW communications chief since it formed from the merger of Upn with The WB in 2006. In his place, Beth Feldman has been named SVP of Network Communications, taking on the role in addition to her current duties as Nexstar’s executive director of communication, Networks division.

Any actor’s directorial debut is daunting. But for “Roswell, New Mexico” star Michael Trevino, things were significantly easier thanks to his leading lady, Jeanine Mason, who apparently was “saving” him on the daily.

TV Line reported Thursday morning that Chapman will return as a series regular for Kung Fu Season 3.

“Tom Swift” has been canceled by The CW after one season, Variety has confirmed.

The news comes less than a month after the series, a spinoff of “Nancy Drew,” premiered on May 31. Sources close to the project tell Variety the decision came down to ratings, as the show failed to find an audience via linear TV or streaming. The five episodes of the series that have aired so far drew 0.1 ratings in the 18-49 demographic.

The news also comes a little over a month after The CW canceled a sizable amount of their originals, including “Charmed,” “Dynasty,” “Rosewell, New Mexico,” “4400,” “Legacies,” “Naomi” and “Batwoman.” In January, it was announced that Nexstar Media Group is in negotiations with the channel to acquire a sizable stake in it, after years of being predominantly owned by WarnerMedia.

Nexstar Media Group’s pursuit of majority control of the CW is nearing the finish line, according to people with knowledge of the pending transaction.

Word of the deal first surfaced last January, but it has taken some time to iron out details. As currently structured, the deal will see Nexstar take a 75 stake in the broadcast network, and current partners Paramount Global and Warner Bros Discovery each take 12.5. Sources indicated there is still some chance the tentative agreement could unravel, but if it stays on track it could be formalized in the next few weeks.

Series creator Julie Plec has been vocal about The CW supporting the series, allowing the creatives to craft a series finale because of the uncertain future of the network.

In a new interview with TV Line, Plec opened up about those early negotiations about the series' future.

“The network called to basically say, ‘We don’t know if we’ll have jobs, or if we’ll have shows, or how much power we’ll even have to bring back the shows that we want,’" Plec, who has worked with the network for over 10 years, said.

What a ride! Where do we go from here?

On 4400 Season 1 Episode 13 we got a showdown at the Bois Blanc and a glimpse into the future — at least, one possible future.

It was an action-packed finale that answered some questions but raised many more.

4400 has had some pacing issues in the past, but there was none of that here. Everything moved along briskly, and no time was wasted.

I don't know how you top a giant iguana dancing to Dua Lipa, but full props to whoever came up with that one. We can say with absolute certainty that that is the first time that has ever happened on television.

It was absurd and ridiculous but a sequence of pure fun that had Ladonna written all over it.

For all the major issues this show packs in, it can be incredibly silly sometimes, which doesn't always work, but at least keeps the surprises fresh.

At long last, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel returns! And even better, it's doing two episodes a week for four weeks for a combo binge-episodic effect.

Apple TV releases Severance, and the race will be on to determine what in the heck is going on because it's a mindbender!

And we cannot forget Valentine's Day. There's romance across the dial, but we've got our eyes on one Gac Family flick and the second in a trilogy at Hallmark.

Single Black Female (Lifetime)

Lifetime is kicking off Black History Month with one of their most hyped movies, a melanated remake of that hit ‘90’s thriller, starring forever fave Amber Riley and Raven Goodwin, whose resemblance is uncanny and perfect for the film.

Monica is trying to center herself after a tragic loss and a breakup upended her world. All seems well when she hires an assistant, Simone, and the two of them become super close friends.

Of course, Simone is Batsh*t Bananas and not only immerses herself in every aspect of Monica’s life, but she’s determined to take it over completely. Pop your popcorn and uncork the wine because this one is going to be Fun.

Fox has struggled in recent years to find a new hit drama.

The Cleaning Lady is the latest offering from the network, and it should be getting an official renewal for Season 2 in the near future.

The Élodie Yung-led drama managed 3.4 million viewers and a 0.5 rating.

It is rare for a new show to be this stable in the ratings, but the numbers go like this: 3.7 million/0.5 rating - 3.3 million/0.5 rating - 3.2 million/0.5 rating - 3.4 million/0.5 rating.

The delayed viewing is also strong, with the show adding 60% to the demo tally with DVR factored in.

Fox would be wise to move the show out of The Resident next season.

Lead-in, 9-1-1: Lone Star drew a solid 5.8 million viewers and a 0.7 rating, on par with its season averages.

Over on ABC, The Bachelor managed 3.4 million viewers and a 0.7 rating in the demo.

Promised Land was steady with its premiere in the demo.
