Just when you thought the DC Universe was finally taking flight again, James Gunn’s Superman might be hitting turbulence overseas—and not the kind you fix with a cape and heat vision. DC Studios and Warner Bros. have placed all their bets on Superman to rescue the franchise from the ashes of Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. But now, a sudden twist in global politics could clip Superman’s wings before takeoff—at least in China. On April 9, Donald Trump fired off a “reciprocal” tariff hike,...
Back in the 20th century, it was very common to see a stand-up comic enter the Hollywood pipeline by starring in their own sitcom based on their acts. Comedians like Bob Newhart, Martin Lawrence, and Roseanne Barr went from performing on small stages around the country to appearing in basically every living room in America thanks to the miracle of television. But when it came to the Latino community, there was a clear lack of representation. That is, until George Lopez arrived on the scene in 2002 with "The George Lopez Show."
Created by Lopez, "The Drew Carey Show" creator Bruce Helford, and "Roseanne" writer Robert Borden,"George Lopez" premiered on March 27, 2002, after the Los Angeles native had tried to make a TV show happen since the early 1990s. He finally achieved his goal when he met Sandra Bullock backstage after a performance at the Brea Improv Comedy Club in 2000. With the award-winning actress' help,...

Marvel keeps dropping news about the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe franchise. We’ve seen heard the descriptions of the recent Fantastic Four footage, saw the announcement of Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse's release year with bonus images, and those set chairs with the names of the stars of Avengers: Doomsday. In the middle of all that was Spider-Man 4 getting an official name (Brand New Day) to go along with its 2026 release date. This came shortly after it was revealed that Sadie Sink would be joining the movie's cast and playing a mystery role.
Within all of the Brand New Day news will come the scuttlebutt. Performers will be rumored to appear based on things that do and don’t make sense. The newest to come out is Spider-Man 4 involves the villain of the piece.

Henry Cavill wasn’t just another Superman. He was the Superman for an entire generation. From the moment he donned the cape in Man of Steel (2013), he embodied the Kryptonian hero like few before him, blending power, vulnerability, and pure cinematic presence. That’s why his sudden exit from the Dcu still feels like a real blow. But here’s the thing: Cavill’s story in DC doesn’t have to end just because he’s no longer Kal-El.
The Dcu is evolving under James Gunn, and while a fresh take on Superman is coming, there’s no reason Cavill can’t return in another legendary role. He has the action-star physique, the commanding screen presence, and the fan loyalty to make an impact as a different character and maybe even one that lets him explore darker, more complex, or mythic personas in DC lore.

Action movie dreams are made of projects like Amazon MGM Studios’ The Wrecking Crew, which will see genre icons real-life man-mountains Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista joining forces for a Lethal Weapon-esque buddy-comedy. While updates have been few and far between since the project was announced a few years ago, Bautista and Momoa’s co-star, Spider-Man: No Way Home’sJacob Batalon, has arrived to provide just that, teasing some “crazy” and “ridiculous” action scenes.
Speaking with Joe, Batalon, who joins both Jason Momoa and Dave Bautista, as well as Claes Bang, Temuera Morrison, Frankie Adams, Miyavi, Stephen Root, and Morena Baccarin in the action outing, also confirmed some plot details about The Wrecking Crew, revealing that the MCU and Dcu stars will play brothers hunting down their murdered father.

June is Pride Month and it's a 30-day celebration of culture and remembrance of the people who paved the way for Lgbtqia+ culture and history. While there are parades, parties, and more joyous events to show how proud people are of themselves and the people who support them, it’s also a moment to give thanks to the people who have lost their lives due to ignorance, hate, and prejudice. That’s why having things like DC Comics’ Pride Anthology is crucial. It shows that some companies aren't backing down to billionaires saying that their culture isn't important.
Let me be clear by saying I’m aware that comic books are fantasy. Nevertheless, anything that brings attention to the Lgbtqia+ community in a positive light is a good thing, especially now. There are a lot of terrible things happening like violence toward trans people, pronouns being banned from workplaces, and attempted laws restricting human rights.

2023 was a disastrous final 12 months for the Dceu. For many moviegoers, Black Adam was the straw that broke the camel's back and Warner Bros.' decision to begin the year by unveiling DC Studios plans for a Dcu reboot made it clear Shazam! Fury of the Gods, The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom didn't matter.
Each of those movies underperformed and even the Aquaman sequel failed to make a splash anywhere near as big as its 2018 predecessor (it grossed over $1.1 billion compared to the follow-up's $439.4 million).
In the weeks leading up to Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom's release, it became clear that Jason Momoa's time as the King of Atlantis had ended. There was some vague chatter about him perhaps playing Lobo in the Dcu but, as time passed, it started looking like James Gunn and Peter Safran had no intention of bringing him back into the fold.

Nathan Fillion is set to play Green Lantern Guy Gardner in the upcoming “Superman” movie, directed by James Gunn. In recent interviews, the actor shared insights about his character, revealing a fresh take on the iconic DC hero. Unlike other Green Lanterns fans may know, Fillion’s Gardner stands out for his rough personality and fearless attitude.
Fillion explained what makes his Guy Gardner unique. “He’s a jerk!” he said. “What’s important to know is, you don’t have to be good to be a Green Lantern; you just have to be fearless. So Guy Gardner is fearless, and he is not very good. He’s not nice, which is very freeing as an actor because you just think to yourself, what is the most selfish, self-serving thing I can do in this moment? And that’s the answer. That’s what you do in that moment.”

Frank Grillo has spent years carving out a niche as one of Hollywood’s most reliable tough guys, and Mr-9: Do or Die is a Bangladeshi breakout that could well be one of his best. Grillo plays the illusive antagonist who is masterminding some deadly arms deals that government officials want to shut down. Look, up in the sky! It's not a bird, it's not a plane, and it's not even Superman. What it is, incredibly enough, might be Warner Bros.' last chance at salvation amid a 2025 slate of risky blockbusters. As the fresh reboot that DC Studios needed to (mostly) wipe everything clean and start over from scratch again, James Gunn's impending "Superman" movie was always going to represent a major gambit to get things off on the right foot. But nobody could've anticipated the perfect storm of factors leading to the dire straits that the entire studio now finds itself in, particularly after a series of box office missteps in recent months. Now, rather fittingly, the future of all of Warner Bros. might very well rest on the shoulders of the Man of Steel. What else is new?

In 2023, Warner Bros. Discovery launched its “Diversity Digest,” a quarterly update on the company’s Dei efforts. The first installment highlighted Latino representation in “Blue Beetle” and home renovation show “Rico to the Rescue.”
But after regular updates in 2024, the digest went silent after the election of President Trump. Last week, the feature was dropped from the company’s Dei page, along with Wbd’s commitments to equity and diversity outreach, as the company narrowed its focus to “inclusion.” The move came as Trump has sought to stamp out Dei programs at the federal level and threatened civil and criminal investigations of private companies. Last month, the Federal Communications Commission opened an investigation of Comcast, the parent of NBCUniversal — and MSNBC — for possibly pursuing “invidious forms of discrimination” under the banner of Dei.
“Bullying is causing a lot of companies to reassess,” says Vernā Myers, former head of inclusion at Netflix.

A collection of new animated series has been greenlit for James Gunn and Peter Safran's DC Studios. The projects, announced at an industry briefing on Feb. 21, aim to bolster the Dcu brand with programming for "younger-skewing" audiences.

It’s been just over two years since James Gunn and Peter Safran mapped out their initial slate of projects for DC Studios and what would be the newly revamped Dcu, a new interconnected universe of superhero movies and films based on DC characters and kicking off in earnest with Gunn’s “Superman” arriving this summer.
So where do they stand? In a press event last week on the Warner Bros. lot in Burbank, Gunn and Safran held court with journalists about all they had cooking, the stuff that’s moving forward and the stuff that has lost the wind in its sails or has hit a snag. “Whoa, déjà vu,” exclaimed DC Studios co-chief Peter Safran as he stepped inside a modest screening room on the Warner Bros. studio lot in Burbank. In January 2023, Safran and his co-chief James Gunn presented the inaugural slate for the newly relaunched DC Universe to a small group of journalists in this same room. Just over two years later, on Feb. 21, the duo returned to deliver their first official update about the slate to (roughly) the same group.

At a time when there are over a dozen streaming platforms to choose from, most of which seem to only increase in price year after year, there are still a few free (with ads) options out there. Advertising-based video on-demand platforms like Pluto TV, The Roku Channel, and Tubi are home to a vast array of films and television series, and Tubi is particularly notable for the breadth of its catalog.Owned by the Fox Corporation, Tubi partners with studios like MGM, Lionsgate, and Paramount to host a variety of content from the past and present, distinguishing itself from its paid competitors with its extensive collection of older films. You could scroll through Tubi for hours and find titles dating back to the early 1900s, art house and foreign films, award-winning documentaries, campy slashers, and plenty of recognizable favorites, including a few recent blockbusters like Dune: Part 1 and Blue Beetle.

DC Studios, spearheaded by James Gunn, announced its initial slate of projects back in February 2023 that provided fans with a glimpse of what to expect from the Dcu, which will reboot the franchise. Similarly to the MCU, the Dcu will tell a long-form story across multiple mediums. Gunn's revamped DC Universe got off to a flying start with the crowd-pleasing Max series Creature Commandos and looks to continue its momentum this summer with the blockbuster release of Superman. While the Dcu is expected to introduce many of the biggest players from DC's Justice League over the course of the next few years, there will also be a number of villains who enter the fray. Notably, a live-action movie featuring two iconic Batman villains is reportedly in the works. The Hollywood Reporter exclusively reported in September that Matthew Orton, who worked on Captain America: Brave New World, is writing the...

Last October, there were rumblings online that Marvel Studios had cast Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña in its planned Nova TV series. We didn't pay too much attention to it at the time, though many fans gave the notion of the Cobra Kai star joining the MCU a thumbs up.
Whether it's as Richard Rider or another member of the Nova Corps, Maridueña would be an exciting addition to the MCU. While he has DC Studios' animated Blue Beetle series on the way, there's no word on Jaime Reyes' live-action future and many actors have starred in Marvel and DC projects at the same time.
That Hashtag Show recently spoke to Maridueña and asked if he's heard anything about a possible starring role in Nova.
"I mean, that would be cool too," the actor responded. "Look, yeah, that'd be great. Shit, I'm ready for whatever work is coming my way,...

If there's anything more absurd than the level of violence in "Invincible," it's the vocal talent behind the characters on the receiving end of it. The brilliantly bloody adaptation of Robert Kirkman's comic book series features Oscar winners like Mahershala Ali and J.K. Simmons, alongside Emmy-winning actors like Sterling K. Brown and Sandra Oh. Now in its third season, Mark Grayson's (Steven Yeun) world is further enriched by two new additions for the price of one: Xolo Maridueña, voicing the twin brothers Dropkick and Fightmaster.
After playing one of "Cobra Kai's" standout characters in "The Karate Kid" spin-off, which earned him his own superhero role as DC's Blue Beetle, Maridueña pulls double duty in "Invincible" season 3 as a pair of twins from the future. After traveling back to the present day to steal the Declaration of Independence, their scheme faces a setback due to the interference of Invincible...

Cobra Kai's Xolo Maridueñahas addressed the possibility of his character showing up in the upcoming feature filmKarate Kid: Legends, and it's not looking good. While Maridueña didn't exactly say "no" when he was asked about reprising the character in the movie, the actor is not optimistic about the writers adding Miguel to the movie. But is there a glimmer of hope?
Maridueña, who has played Miguel Diaz in all six seasons of Cobra Kai, was at the Saturn Awards, and he spoke with Screen Rant about his future after Cobra Kai. The Netflix show is set to end in a few days when Season 6 Part 3 premieres on Feb. 13. Maridueña is open to wearing the karate suit again in Karate Kid: Legends, and he's certain that the piece that holds it all together is Ralph Macchio, aka Daniel Larusso:
"Maybe if you catch me at the local theater, maybe you'll get a double showing.

In the 2010s, the success of Arrow resulted in a Flash spinoff series and eventually the entire Arrowverse. Despite being its spiritual successor, Smallvillenever went down this path. However, it wasn't for a lack of trying, and as recently as two years ago, there was still interest in reviving the beloved Superman series.
Smallville was a smash hit that lasted 10 seasons, but none of its potential spinoffs even got a single season. Only one of the conceptualized spinoffs even had a pilot produced, even after the CW drama went out of its way to include multiple backdoor pilots. Every proposed spinoff would have starred at least one iconic DC hero, and with fans having only recently learned about some of them, it's possible there are still pitches that haven't been unveiled.

While there has been a lot of turnover at DC over the last few years since James Gunn took over as the new creative head of the studio, one character who he assured had a place in the new universe was Blue Beetle. Blue Beetle made his big screen debut in the 2023 superhero flick of the same name that saw Cobra Kai veteran Xolo Maridueña step into the role of Jaime Reyes, aka Blue Beetle. It's already been announced that a Blue Beetle animated series is in the works with Maridueña set to return, and during a recent interview with Collider's own Aidan Kelleyat the Saturn Awards, Maridueňa provided an optimistic update on the show, as well as speaking on how Blue Beetle fits into the future of the Dcu:...

The long-awaited return of Xolo Maridueña as Jaime Reyes/Blue Beetle may be happening sooner than fans expected. The actor, who made his debut as the young DC superhero in Blue Beetle, recently shared the release window for the upcoming animated continuation of the 2023 movie.
Maridueña spoke with The Direct at last night's Saturn Awards, where he revealed that he was hoping for the Blue Beetle animated series, which will be set in James Gunn's DC Universe, to premiere in 2026. "I'm ready to come back. We're hitting hard this animated project, hoping to get this settled out this year to show everyone next year," the actor shared. Story details for the animated continuation, which was announced last June, remain under wraps. Blue Beetle director Ángel Manuel Soto andwriter Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer are attached as executive producers on the project, with Christian Martinez writing the series and Miguel Pugaserving as showrunner and director.

Xolo Maridueña is one of very few former Dceu stars who won't be recast in James Gunn's rebooted DC Universe, as the actor is set to return as Blue Beetle in a new animated project. Maridueña is best known for his starring role in Netflix's Cobra Kai, as well as 2023's Blue Beetle, which was arguably the best of the Dceu's final slate of movies before the reins were handed to Gunn. Maridueña's new animated series has received very few updates since it was announced last June. However, the actor has finally come to the rescue with a much-needed update... and a potential release date.

Last summer, the news broke that DC Studios is moving forward with an animated Blue Beetle TV series. The show was already in development when the announcement was made, with Miguel Puga (The Casagrandes) said to have started work on the project months before.
He'll serve as showrunner, while Cristian Martinez (Women of the Movement) is writing the series. Angel Manuel Soto and Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer, director and screenwriter of the 2023 movie, respectively, executive producing alongside John Ricard. Galen Vaisman, another Blue Beetle executive producer, is overseeing the series for DC Studios.
Jaime Reyes actor Xolo Maridueña is reprising his role alongside unnamed other actors who also starred in the Blue Beetle movie. However, there have been conflicting reports about whether it's a continuation or soft reboot meant to bring Jaime into the Dcu without any Dceu baggage.
Talking to The Direct at the Saturn Awards, Maridueña expressed his enthusiasm to play Blue Beetle again.

Speaking at the Saturn Awards, Blue Beetle star Xolo Maridueña gave new information on his upcoming return in James Gunn and Peter Safran's new DC universe — exciting news for those excited to see more from Jaime Reyes.
Back in June, Deadline confirmed that a Blue Beetle animated series, featuring Maridueña, was in the works. This comes after Maridueña starred as the titular Blue Beetle in the character's 2023 movie, one of the last DC Extended Universe (or SnyderVerse) movies to release before the switch to Gunn.
He is one of only a select few Dceu actors to return in Gunn's new slate of movies and shows as the same character, joining the likes of Viola Davis (Amanda Waller), Sean Gunn (Weasel), John Cena (Peacemaker), and a couple of others.

2025 is the year that DC gets a rebirth on the silver screen. At this point, we all know that the shared universe strategy wasn't handled in the best way by Warner Bros., but it doesn't mean that all movies in the franchise were bad, and every hero from it is now expendable. When the Dceu (DC Extended Universe) was close to wrapping up in 2023, Blue Beetle was one of the last superhero entries to make it to cinemas, and audiences responded well to it. If you missed it or want to give it a re-watch, the movie is available to stream for free on Tubi this month.

There was a time recently when movie theaters were absolutely jam-packed with superhero movies. The success of the MCU was a game changer for Hollywood, and seemingly every studio wanted in, with virtually all of them investing hundreds of millions into trying to create their own superhero franchise or shared universe. Yet, most recently one term has come up that has started to haunt Hollywood: superhero fatigue. In recent years, movies that seemed like surefire hits began to fail. The MCU had a few under-performers, including Eternals, Ant-Man & the Wasp: Quantumania, and one all-out flop, The Marvels. DC had several flops of their own, including The Flash, Blue Beetle, Shazam: Fury of the Gods, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. And don’t even get us started on Sony’s Spider-Verse, with Morbius, Madame Web, and most recently Kraven the Hunter earning disastrous box office. Kraven only made $24.9 million domestically,...

Certainly, people are more inclined to purchase premium subscriptions because they will be able to access exclusive content, although Tubi is just as good, if not better, than many streaming options. It’s been nearly a year and a half since Angel Manuel Soto’s Blue Beetle was released as part of the Dceu franchise of DC films, and while critics and audiences responded well, sadly, the film's release was poorly timed to the end of what is known as "Snyderverse." The film was the 14th release in the franchise, which began with Man of Steel in 2013 and ended with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom in 2023.
Whilst the Dceu was relatively short-lived, it had some truly fantastic character portrayals, such as Xolo Maridueña, who played Blue Beetle and will continue to play the role in James Gunn’s reboot of the franchise as the Dcu.
