Ernst is a man who can't finish anything off properly, not even himself. And don't let's start on his fear of the dark or his trouble peeing. Alone in a cabin with the intention to kill himself, an alter ego visits him and...that's when things get weird!
This film made me think about depression, madness, identity, indecision, paralysis and the slow journey to self-knowledge. There's a lot to digest as the main character grapples with his choices or lack thereof.
It's a beautiful film that creates a sad and melancholic atmosphere but never forgets also to be darkly hilarious throughout - and when I say dark I mean dark!
This is an amazing achievement, a one-man tour de force by director/producer/actor/composer Otwin Biernat. It looks beautiful with a stunning Austrian mountain backdrop. The understated soundtrack is charming and perfectly pitched for the movie. The writing is great and keeps you hooked and at times the performance conjures the intensity and intimacy of a stage play.
I loved this movie so much I've already watched it twice. It's a masterpiece of indie filmmaking that stays with you long after the (also hilarious) credits roll.
