One Battle After Another will officially slug it out with the fall’s top awards contenders. On Thursday, Warner Bros. released the first trailer for Paul Thomas Anderson’s new movie with Leonardo DiCaprio, which arrives in theaters on Sept. 26 — a release date that all but assures Anderson’s latest of launching at one of the significant fall festivals in Venice, Telluride, or Toronto.
Still, regardless of its eventual landing spot, One Battle After Another was always considered one of the year’s top potential Oscar films, sight unseen. Anderson’s movies have racked up several nominations over the last two decades, as have DiCaprio’s many acclaimed features. It’s always possible that One Battle After Another is the exception, not the rule — especially because Anderson’s last dalliance with the work of Thomas Pynchon, Inherent Vice (more on that below), didn’t connect with the Academy significantly.

When an evil, skull-shaped UFO abducts landmarks from all over the world, it’s sports stars wielding their physical skill who stand up to save the day, not superheroes or military. This unusual notion is the basis of Slam and Roll, a retro-inspired 2D arcade platformer that sends players to a fast-paced, single-screen battleground where precision, timing, and originality are essential for success.
With each stage set against backdrops inspired by historic landmarks like the UK’s Stonehenge, the game’s world is as vibrant as its premise, adding a bit of global charm to the alien invasion narrative.
Slam and Roll, at its core, thrives on merging basic arcade principles with a sports-inspired twist. The game, which draws similarities to Snow Bros., Parasol Stars, and Bubble Bobble, maintains the frenetic, addicting spirit of its forebears while introducing its own quirks.
However, the combination of classic visuals and intricate gameplay is not without flaws.

In classic RPG fashion, Mario & Luigi: Brothership allows players to select from a few special skill attacks during the turn-based combat. These are battle abilities which come in addition to their regular attacks and have a greater chance of causing heavy damage, but also come at a cost of Bp. These Bros. Attacks use the two brothers together to pull off a unique move, which often defy any realistic possibility of happening, but sure looks cool.
While playing through the main campaign of Mario & Luigi: Brothership, the brothers will get new Bros. Attacks from time to time as the story warrants it. Each Bros. Attack costs Bp, which can be replenished by using certain items such as Syrup, or resting. Many of these Bros. Attacks also feature some nostalgia for longtime players, whether by reference to previous Mario & Luigi games, or simply iconic features of the Super Mario universe.

During the same interview where he defended the Warner Bros. awards season flop “Joker: Folie a Deux,” Oscar-winning director Quentin Tarantino also expressed a strong disinterest in the studio’s top contender, “Dune: Part Two.”
Speaking to Bret Easton Ellis during an interview with Ellis for the writer’s podcast, Tarantino said he had already watched “Dune” adapted for the screen by David Lynch.
“I don’t need to see that story again,” Tarantino said when asked about Denis Villeneuve’s screen adaptations of Frank Herbert’s science-fiction novel. “I don’t need to see spice worms. I don’t need to see a movie that says the word ‘Spice’ so dramatically.”
The “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” director added that Hollywood’s reliance on reboots and remakes was not something he found interesting as an audience member.

The rumors are true. After being spotted on the streets of Manhattan by a few intrepid TikTok users earlier this month, Billy Eichner is is resurrecting his “Billy on the Street” series in the final days of the 2024 presidential campaign.
“Loud White Men for Kamala,” a segment featuring Eichner and Will Ferrell, dropped on Tuesday morning across Eichner’s social feeds. The video shows the two comic actors, elevated voices in tow, encouraging New York pedestrians to vote and volunteer for Kamala Harris and Tim Walz. In short, per a note from Eichner’s publicist, to “do everything we possibly can to protect Americans from Donald Trump in these crucial final days of Early Voting and exactly one week before Election Day.”
If Eichner wanted maximum attention on the video, he certainly chose the right partner. Ferrell’s previous appearances on Billy on the Street have garnered more than 100 million views across social media.

After delivering the biggest 2022 horror film, Smile, filmmaker Parker Finn is prepared to bring a remake of one of the most controversial horror films from the 1980s, Possession. Reportedly, Finn will collaborate with The Batman fame Robert Pattinson for the upcoming remake of the 1981 classic.
A still from Possession | Oliane Productions
Possession, starring Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani, was a bizarre horror drama that featured a failing marriage between an international spy and his wife. But things take a wild turn as we discover that the story has everything strange – from doppelgangers to an awful Lovecraftian tentacled creature.
While Robert Pattinson is confirmed to produce the film, he is also likely to lead. His association with the film also assures the fans that the actor is trying hard to leave his past image.

Its going to be another disappointing weekend at the domestic box office, continuing what has so far been a rather underwhelming summer. After last weekends record-low numbers, things are looking even more dire this weekend. With no new major releases lined up, Sonys The Garfield Movie is expected to accomplish what it nearly missed in its debut: a number one finish ahead of Warner Bros. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. The animated film is expected to narrowly out-perform the action epic, which is poised to become one of the biggest commercial flops in recent memory.

Mad Max franchise creator George Miller discussed the black-and-white version of Warner Bros. Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. This comes after less than a week since the long-awaited Fury Road prequel had made its theatrical debut.
During a recent interview with Happy Sad Confused, Miller admitted that he has already finished editing the black-and-white version of Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga, which hes planning to call Tinted Black & Chrome. "Weve done it already. Its the last thing I did on this film, and I call it Tinted Black & Chrome, or I want to call it Tinted Black & Chrome," Miller said of his fascination with making black-and-white cuts of his movies. "I must say, its really interesting. Im still trying to demystify why the black and white, for me, has something more elemental to it. I still cant quite put my finger on it. If there’s one thing many fans don’t know about Kevin Costner, it is that he’s the funniest guy to be around on movie sets. At least, that’s what costar Dane Cook told the press. The actor is widely recognized for his role in Taylor Sheridan’s Yellowstone.

The rivalry between Disney and Warner Bros. represents one of the most long-lasting and dynamic business competitions in the entertainment industry. Their rivalry has been deeply rooted as it has existed since the 1920s, and it originated from both studios having humble beginnings to becoming powerhouses in terms of filmmaking and creating content to entertain its audience.

While both studios are great in their own spheres it looks like Disney has the upper hand as it looks like they have overtaken their rivals in the race to sign an exciting deal with the NBA, and Warner Bros. can not do anything about it as their financial conditions are restricting them from making any lucrative offer to the National Basketball Association as they are already struggling to clear their $40 billion debt.

It is always a joy to find shows you began to watch with zero expectations, and they always end up being good watches, surprisingly. A show that can keep you watching even if you have no clue how it will move forward is proof of good filmmaking. It’s been a while since a decent comedy drama came out on Netflix, and Bros is one of them. This Netflix Israeli original is set in Jerusalem and shares the story of two friends who run a bar. Created by Guy Amir and Hanan Savyon, the show was released on the streaming platform on April 19, 2024.
Bros is all about Pini and Nisso, who have been friends since childhood and currently run a bar in the city of Jerusalem. They have been marred with several issues on the personal and professional front. Pini is married to Alma, and they have been trying to...

The Batman was a refreshing change in the turbulent DC Extended Universe. Taking a different approach from earlier DC and Batman movies, this 2022 flick starring Robert Pattinson as Bruce Wayn is essentially a noir-style mystery that highlights the superhero’s detective abilities in addition to his physical prowess.
Not only did it create a bleak new Gotham City, but it also featured some of the best performances from Colin Farrell (The Penguin), Jeffrey Wright (James Gordon), Zoë Kravitz (Catwoman), and of course, Pattinson (Batman).
However, the film was met with some skepticism following Christopher Wozniak, a screenwriter and former freelance artist for DC Comics, filing a lawsuit against Warner Bros. for allegedly stealing the story from his script, The Ultimate Riddle.

Well, the plaintiff has not been pleased with the verdict, as the US Judge ruled that Matt Reeves’ helmed flick was not plagiarized.

Teen Titans Go! surprises viewers by airing a different episode instead of the anticipated Warner Bros. 100th Anniversary Special, aligning with the show's reputation for subverting expectations. It's been a tough stretch for theatrical comedy over the last couple of years, save for a couple of hit rom-coms in "The Lost City" and "Ticket to Paradise." Beyond that, comedy has largely had to fight for scraps at the box office, with even Billy Eichner's well-liked "Bros" bombing in downright disconcerting fashion. But as the fall season approaches, MGM and Orion are hoping to break through with "Bottoms," an irreverent and wildly acclaimed comedy that stars Rachel Sennott and "The Bear" breakout Ayo Edebiri.
It's difficult to find comparisons for a movie like this in terms of a wide-release theatrical comedy. Having seen the movie, I can confidently say it's wildly original and straight-up bonkers. I would look at "Bros" doing just $14.7 million worldwide as the floor in a worst-case scenario. Oddly, I would look at something like "Barbarian," which had that "you need to see this...

The annual report from USC’s Annenberg Inclusion Initiative found that Universal’s “Bros” accounted for 80% of the transgender characters in the 100 top-grossing movies of 2022.
According to the study, just 87 of 4,169 speaking or named characters (2.1%) in 2022 movies were LGBTQ+. Of that number, five characters identified as transgender and four of them appeared in “Bros.”
Written by and starring Billy Eichner, the film made history as the first gay rom-com to be given a wide theatrical release by a major studio and featured a cast almost exclusively made up of LGBTQ actors. The film was released in September 2022 and despite disappointing box office returns (“Bros” earned just $14.7 million worldwide), qualified under the Annenberg researchers’ criteria.

Authored by Dr. Stacy L. Smith, Dr. Katherine Pieper and Sam Wheeler, the study assessed a total of 69,858 speaking characters covering the 1,600 top films from 2007 to 2022, examining the inclusion factors of gender, race/ethnicity, LGBTQ+ identity and characters with disabilities,...

In Red, White & Royal Blue, an unexpected fling goes from playful secret to intimate love story for Alex Claremont-Diaz (Taylor Zakhar Perez), the first son of the United States, and Prince Henry (Nicholas Galitzine), Britain’s spare.
Adapted for the screen by co-writers Ted Malawer and Matthew López (who pulled double duty as director) from Casey McQuiston’s new, wildly popular adult best-seller of the same name, the film arrives just a year after a slew of notable (and often comedic) queer romance releases — including Fire Island, Bros, My Policeman and fellow Prime Video title Anything’s Possible — and amid several anticipated 2023 titles like Bottoms, Joy Ride and Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe.
With the arrival of these films and Red, White & Royal Blue comes fuller depictions of not just queer identity and life, but also intimacy. It’s a topic that has historically been taboo on U.

This Venture Bros. movie review contains no spoilers.
“It’s like a job trying to follow this nonsense.”
How does one say goodbye after 20 years? That’s the lofty task that The Venture Bros. faces with this concluding movie-length finale, Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart, and it does so with nerdy, passionate grace. The Venture Bros. has produced seven seasons, but it made its Adult Swim premiere back in 2003 when the then-fledgling network only had five original programs to its name and superhero parodies were niche, not the new normal. Now, it celebrates its swan song during a time when most people will view this series finale feature film on Max, sandwiched between endless superhero content. The animation industry and television as a whole have greatly transformed since The Venture Bros.’s debut, yet Radiant is the Blood of the Baboon Heart proves that The Venture Bros.

As the SAG-AFTRA strike begins its second week, there’s no indication that negotiations will resume between that guild or the WGA with AMPTP any time soon. And that’s bad news for studios, as actors on strike will begin not only to affect the production of new work, but the premieres of upcoming schedule films. May a studio pull off a successful premiere of a tentpole movie without its cast present?

In 1940, the Marx Bros. appeared in one of the earliest cinematic western comedies, an overlooked picture called Go West. It comes from pretty late in the post-Zeppo era, a run of pictures often considered inferior to when the brothers were at their peak. Still, even without Zeppo — who was a crucial part of the Marx formula, a secret sauce if you will — the Brothers made a pretty admirable chunk of films after their Paramount days. Go West is one of them, even if it never quite matches the heights of the comparatively Zeppo-less A Night at the Opera.

Warning: Minor spoilers for Platonic's season 1 finale.Apple TV's Platonic just ended its first season on a high note, with Will and Sylvia (played by Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne) satisfied with their respective careers and love lives. True to the series title, the best friends never crossed the line into something romantic, despite the creeping paranoia of Sylvia's husband Charlie (portrayed by Bros star Luke Macfarlane). Created by Francesca Delbanco and Nicholas Stoller, the 10-episode comedy explored the fallout of two friends reuniting at a low point in their lives and accidentally upending their worlds in the process.
Macfarlane plays Charlie as a kindhearted and level-headed husband, but he isn't able to keep his cool throughout the show. As Sylvia gets more involved in Will's life, Charlie can't help but feel cut out of his wife's innermost thoughts — leading him to act out by hooking up with his coworker Vanessa.

Donna Langley is a dame in waiting no more.
The veteran movie executive, with deep ties to Hollywood filmmakers and a knack for shepherding blockbusters to the screen, ascended to NBCUniversal’s content throne on Thursday, one of the big winners in a sweeping reorganization made by Comcast president Mike Cavanagh, who oversees NBCUniversal.
In her new role as chief content officer, Langley won’t just be overseeing Universal’s slate of films. She will also take ownership of its TV and streaming creative strategy. It’s an elevation that many industry players saw as inevitable – after all, how much longer could the company keep the in-demand executive without expanding her portfolio?
However, that also shortchanges Langley’s talent for C-suite survival, one that’s seen her withstand mergers and sales, as well as a revolving door of leaders and associates such as Ron Meyer, Adam Fogelson and Jeff Shell,...

As Pride Month comes to a close, Luke Macfarlane reflects on Bros bombing at the box office. Co-written by and starring Billy Eichner, the rom-com centered on an openly gay podcast host and curator for an LGBTQ+ museum in Manhattan whose single life is thrown into upheaval as he finds himself drawn to a similarly commitment-phobic man. Helmed by Forgetting Sarah Marshall's Nicholas Stoller, Bros scored widespread critical acclaim, but ultimately bombed at the box office, grossing just $14.8 million against its $22 million production budget.

Last fall, the highly-acclaimed rom-com Bros bombed with filmgoers upon its premiere in theaters. Directed by Nicholas Stoller, Bros stars Billy Eichner and Luke Macfarlane as two gay men in New York who fall for each other despite their respective fears of commitment. It was also notable for having an openly LGBTQ+ cast and serving as one of the first gay rom-coms to be developed for a theatrical release by a major studio. The film had a budget of around $22 million with Universal reportedly spending up to $40 million for marketing, but the comedy was a box office bomb, grossing less than $15 million worldwide.

Some names, once viewed on a marquee or YouTube ad, tend to draw a specific audience ranging from real fans to, “Oh yes, that guy.“ I could put the Duplass brothers, Mark and Jay, into both of these categories, with a lengthy filmography largely encompassing projects their company Duplass Brothers Productions has spearheaded, such as 2010’s “Cyrus” and “Jeff, Who Lives at Home”; Mark, in particular, has emerged as the higher profile of the two, consistently delivering as an actor in diverse roles ranging from horror (“Creep”) to TV comedy (“The League”) offbeat humor and more. “The Long Long Night,” another Mark Duplass vehicle, would likely fall into the latter category; originating from show creator/co-star Barret O’Brien, the six-episode series depicts the falling out between two former best friends, Pete (Duplass) and Carroll (O’Brien) and the night that kicked it off, told through black and white footage of...

As of May 23, 2023, the streaming service HBO Max will be relaunched as Max, and there are a few changes that audiences will want to know about. This change comes after a long line of mergers and rebranding, such as the joining of WarnerMedia and Discovery into Warner Bros Discovery. Now, Discovery+ will be adding its strength to HBO Max, so that movie and TV enthusiasts can enjoy a wider variety of content on the newly-christened Max. However, this naturally brings up several questions.
Thanks to HBO's many hit series, such as Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire, it has long been established as a leading TV network. This made their streaming service, HBO Max, just as popular, especially as cable TV began to give way to the flexible world of streaming. This year alone the company has huge features on the docket like Greta Gerwig's exceptionally vibrant Barbie adaptation, the highly anticipated Dune: Part Two sequel, Timothee Chalamet's other big feature Wonka, and the dramatic turn to Dcu 2.0 with The Flash, Blue Beetle, and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. One upcoming project that people likely didn't expect though is a new documentary mini-series called 100 Years of Warner Bros., that will serve as a one-of-a-kind reflection of the company's tremendously profound impact on the film industry over the past century. 2022 was something of a landmark year for mainstream queer cinema. Films like "Fire Island," "Crush," and "Anything's Possible" painted a far more authentic and inclusive mosaic of the 2Slgbtq+ community than the movies with mostly white cisgender casts -- many of which, as moving as they are, feature straight actors playing queer characters -- that have come before them, while at the same time broadening their focus beyond the typical queer issues and "tragic" stories Hollywood typically fixates on. Channing Dungey spent her first two months at what was then simply Warner Media shadowing her predecessor, Peter Roth. She was coming off a short stint at Netflix, which followed a much longer stint at Disney, and Roth had two-plus decades of experience running television’s most prolific studio to impart.
“I like to say I was auditing Professor Roth’s course,” she says over a late lunch in January at Superba Hollywood, recounting how she’d follow him from Zoom room to Zoom room, taking it all in, as 2020 drew to a close.
A few things became very clear, very quickly. The first was that trying to do the job in the style that Roth did it was a fool’s errand. Though the two share a passion for storytelling, his translated to larger-than-life pitches — even virtually, she says, “It’s like the Ringling Bros. circus” — and a penchant for bear hugs.
