The Losers’ Club leaves Maine and heads to Flint City, Oklahoma, where a grisly murder demands the talents of Stephen King’s favorite cinephile sleuth Holly Gibney. Published in May of 2018, The Outsider is one of King’s more successful forays into the true crime genre, picking up where he left off with the Mr. Mercedes Trilogy.
It’s a story we covered in capsule form over half a decade ago, but today we’re giving it the true Lc treatment with an official, full-length book episode. Join co-hosts Michael Roffman, Jenn Adams, Rachel Reeves, and Randall Colburn as they weigh in on the balance between true crime and the supernatural, debate whether Holly adds or detracts from said balance, and how the Trump and MeToo era may or may not have had an influence on the story.

The upcoming TV series It: Welcome to Derry, which will serve as a prequel to Warner Bros’ two-part adaptation of the classic Stephen King novel It (pick up a copy Here), was originally meant to be for the Max streaming service, but we recently learned that it will be airing on HBO as well. The show went into production in Port Hope, Ontario at the end of last year, aiming for a 2025 premiere, and wrapped in August after 237 shooting days. We’re still waiting to hear exactly when the nine episode first season is going to start airing – but casting director Rich Delia has already confirmed that the show’s kid characters are not safe… which makes sense, when you’re dealing with an antagonist that describes itself as “the eater of worlds, and of children.”

Robert Eggers’ Nosferatu sees Bill Skarsgård as the terrifying vampire Count Orlok, and the movie repeats the best trick from Skarsgård’s other big horror project from eight years ago: Andy Muschietti’s It. Robert Eggers has become one of the most acclaimed filmmakers in recent years and has become especially popular in the horror genre. Eggers’ latest project is Nosferatu, a remake of the 1922 classic German expressionist movie of the same name, itself an unofficial adaptation of Bram Stoker’s Dracula, starring Bill Skarsgård as the legendary vampire.
Nosferatu takes the audience to 1838 to meet Ellen Hutter (Lily-Rose Depp), a young woman haunted by nightmares of a mysterious and terrifying creature. When her husband, Thomas (Nicholas Hoult), is sent to Transylvania to sell a house to Count Orlok, the latter terrifies the former, unleashing a real nightmare as Orlok is the creature haunting Ellen and wanting to take her.

Yes, it’s hot, yes, it’s sweaty, and, yes, it literally takes place on June 19, 1987, but Stephen King‘s Maximum Overdrive is also a Christmas movie. Why? There’s a green comet, tons of red blood, and everyone’s forced to spend day and night together as a large truck of toys dictates their lives. If that’s not a metaphor for an American Christmas, well, we’re at a loss.

Ever heard the saying, “A rose by any other name would smell as sweet?” Well, Post Malone, born Austin Richard Post, might just be the living embodiment of this quote.
Imagine a world where you’re known by one name—and that name is on everyone’s lips. It’s the name that blares from your speakers, rings through your headphones, and even makes its way into your daily conversations. That’s the power of the name Post Malone.

Like a true artist, he’s created an identity that’s uniquely his. You’ve probably jammed to his hits like Circles and Rockstar, or caught a glimpse of his tattoos and hoodie-clad figure at some point. But how did Austin Richard Post—a kid from Grapevine, Texas—morph into the larger-than-life star that commands arenas and has you humming his tunes even when you don’t want to?...

The fan-favorite demon clown has returned for vengeance, which forces Bill, Bev, Richie, Mike, Ben, and Eddie to come back to Derry in order to fulfill their childhood promise of reuniting to defeat Pennywise once he returns. Stephen King is renowned for referencing his past projects in other works, and there are loads of books and short stories of his that tie into The Dark Tower series. Stephen Kings Dark Tower books consist of eight novels and one short story, starting with 1982s The Gunslinger and ending with 2012s The Wind Through the Keyhole. The Dark Tower entries are considered to be some of the very best books by Stephen King, and the King of Horror himself has even considered them his magnum opus.
The Dark Tower series is complex and layered with a lot of detail, so it makes sense that King would tie in his other works. However, the links to his other novels arent exclusively horror titles. Stephen Kings best non-horror book, The Stand, has a number of parallels and connections. King is undoubtedly a clever writer, but The Dark Tower series proves just...

Chris Evans’s MCU journey as Captain America, who made his film debut in a stand-alone film and went on to become one of the MCU’s most significant characters until retiring in Endgame and choosing to stay with Peggy in the past, was an epic one and whatever Evans does, Captain America will remain with him as one of his most popular roles of all time.
At the same time, Josh Brolin also has a very rich comic book movie career, with Thanos being the most significant comic book role he’s played, although it is not the only one. Bill Skarsgrd's return as Pennywise in Welcome to Derry ensures continuity with the original movie adaptations. Pennywise is best in small doses, so Welcome to Derry needs to focus on its human protagonists, not the villain. The prequel series has the opportunity to explore darker themes and expand on Derry's history beyond Pennywise.
The news that Bill Skarsgrds Pennywise will return in Welcome To Derry is great, but ITs iconic villain must avoid a Stephen King adaptation mistake. When the It prequel Welcome to Derry was first announced in 2022, the news was met with a mix of enthusiasm and understandable trepidation. It: Chapter Twos ending was far from perfect, but it was hard to argue that the overlong sequel needed even more screen time to flesh out its shape-shifting villains story. The origins of Pennywise the Monster Clown werent entirely clear, but this wasnt necessarily a bad thing.

On August 9, 2017, a TV show premiered with two huge names attached — Stephen King (one of the most successful writers alive) and David E. Kelley (one of the most successful TV creators alive) — and no one saw it. That show? Mr. Mercedes, an adaptation of King’s 2014 novel, the first in a trilogy about a detective named Bill Hodges and the psychopath that got away. But while your mileage may vary when it comes to the book — and the work of Kelley, who created shows like The Practice and Ally McBeal — neither of them are to blame. The problem was that it premiered on the Audience Network, a pay channel owned by AT&T that nobody knew how to find.
After the Audience Network folded in 2020, Mr. Mercedes, which somehow managed to get three full seasons, rolled over to Peacock. A good thing, too, as it’s got a cast to die for — Brendan Gleeson,...

Pennywise's chilling recreation in a cosplay captures the essence of terror from the 2017 movie moment. Skarsgård's portrayal of Pennywise is haunting and unpredictable, showcasing his inhuman nature. The accurate cosplay of Pennywise pays tribute to King's deadly entity with every terrifying detail.
Bill Skarsgård's Pennywise the Dancing Clown returns to incite fear in the hearts of horror fans in a chilling, highly-detailed cosplay recreation of a key It movie moment. Stephen King's terrifying entity returned to the screen in Andy Muschieti's 2017 adaptation of the author's 1986 novel, followed by a second part in 2019. In It, the town of Derry, Maine has been plagued by a malevolent shape-shifting entity that stalks and preys upon its young residents, leading to a group of unlikely young heroes taking a stand when they find themselves targeted by the creature.

In all of Stephen King’s massive catalog, few works are as bleak as his 2010 novella collection Full Dark, No Stars. Rather than supernatural entities, these four dark tales feature human monsters and deal with the horrors that live inside the human heart. Two novellas serve as mirror images of each other, exploring the female response to predatory men. “Big Driver” follows cozy mystery writer Tess Thorne on a mission of revenge against the stranger who raped her and left her for dead. “A Good Marriage” centers Darcy Anderson, a happily married woman faced with a horrifying choice when she discovers her husband’s secret life.
Both novellas were faithfully adapted into feature films in the year 2014 – for better or worse. Premiering on Lifetime, Big Driver tackles King’s rape-revenge story with Maria Bello staring as the vigilante writer and Olympia Dukakis as her literary detective. Ann Dowd and Joan Jett...

’11/22/63′: Stephen King Finds the Best Ending to His Greatest Love Story [The Losers’ Club Podcast]
The Losers’ Club reaches the last page of Stephen King‘s time-traveling drama: 11/22/63. In the sixth and final episode of their coverage, the Losers return to the present to discuss the tear-jerker of an ending, dust off King’s original finale, and share their final thoughts. They also meditate on the book’s connections (?) to Mid-World and other what-ifs.
It’s a rousing conclusion to what has been the Club’s greatest journey thus far. For the last month and change, the Losers have spent 22 hours dissecting the 2011 tome — from discussing its origins, to needling through the conspiracies left off the page, to relishing all the time we get with some of our favorite characters in King’s Dominion. It’s been a ride, alright.
Stream the final episode below, in addition to all seven prior episodes as part of this series. For further adventures, join the Club via Apple Podcasts,...

The Losers’ Club continues their journey through Stephen King‘s time-traveling drama: 11/22/63. In the fifth of six episodes, the Losers spend their time healing at the Parkland Memorial Hospital before the big, titular day. But, can Jake Epping save the world and yet also save the girl? Or will Oswald succeed as love fades away?
Join the gang as they discuss “Pt. 5: 11/22/63”. Together, they chart how King pivots away from the facts for the fiction, mull over Jake’s options as it relates to Sadie and Oswald, and make plenty of Hitchcock puns in the process. They also share some stunning revelations, all before reaching what might be the most spellbinding climax King has ever written.

The Losers’ Club continues their journey through Stephen King‘s time-traveling drama: 11/22/63. In the fourth of six episodes, the Losers go on a stakeout and get stuck between stations, specifically Dallas and Jodie, Texas. It’s here Jake Epping gets lovingly closer to Sadie Dunhill and yet dangerously closer to Lee Harvey Oswald. Remember, though, time is obdurate.
Join the gang as they discuss “Pt. 4: Sadie and the General”. Together, they weigh in on the sweet and sour of life as it relates to Jake’s latest misadventures and chart the delicate dance King endures as he weaves fiction around facts. They also catch up on all the real-life pop culture that has culminated since 1958 over — you guessed it — a fresh slice of poundcake.

The Losers’ Club continues their journey through Stephen King‘s time-traveling drama: 11/22/63. In the third of six episodes, the Losers head back to Derry, Maine, all before road trippin’ down south to Sunset Point, Fl, then to Dallas, TX, and finally to Jodie, TX. Things take a dark turn along the way, proving – as King writes – it wasn’t all Andy-n-Opie back in 1958.
Join the gang as they discuss Jake Epping’s cross-country adventure (?) that reveals the gritty underbelly of the shiny ’50s. They’ll also hit the history books for some talk about the New Orleans mafia, remark on some of King’s most beautiful prose as he kicks back in the deep Maine woods for a few cribbage lessons, and share our high school theater experiences.

HBO's show Welcome to Derry will fix the timeline mistake of the It movies by setting it in the same era as Stephen King's novel, the 1960s. The new show will explore the origins of Pennywise and how he became a terrifying creature in the community of Derry. It creates a more authentic backdrop to King's original vision by capturing the cultural norms and shock factor of the 1950s, emphasizing the horrors of Pennywise's actions.
From the first glimpses of Welcome to Derry, the HBO show serving as a prequel to Andy Muschietti's two It movies, it looks like it will fix one major timeline mistake the movies make regarding the original Stephen King novel. The town of Derry, Maine will once again serve as the backdrop for this latest Pennywise story and will explore the origins of the clown-like figure and how he became a terrifying creature in the community.

Look, we would’ve been perfectly happy enjoying 11/22/63 without getting into the weeds of the JFK conspiracy, but Stephen King himself took pains to detail how his research for the book convinced him that Lee Harvey Oswald acted alone. “It is very, very difficult for a reasonable person to believe otherwise,” he writes in the book’s afterword. Since that’s no fun, we sought out some smart people to provide a counterpoint and share their own thoughts about the book’s depictions of Oswald, Kennedy, and the assassination.
In this episode, The Losers’ Club speaks with Blowback co-host (and recent King convert) Brendan James about 11/22/63‘s Oswald, conspiracy in the 21st century, and King’s political evolution over the years — from the paranoia of The Stand to the regret of Hearts in Atlantis to the ghastly spirit of Donald Trump pervading his latest novels (and Twitter account). ‘Under the Dome’ TV Series Tries to Be ‘Lost’, Forgets to Be Stephen King [The Losers’ Club Podcast]
Ten years ago, CBS hit it big with its series adaptation of Stephen King‘s Under the Dome. The show arrived on June 24, 2013, shattering records to become the most watched summer drama premiere on any television network since 1992. It was a genuine summer event, and then, well, three years later it was all over. Since then, it’s retreated into obsolescence and even King, who was a producer, has called for a remake on Netflix.
So, what happened?
That’s a question The Losers’ Club tries to answer on today’s episode. After three episodes dedicated to the 2009 novel, the Losers return to Chester’s Mill to put a lens on the series’ three seasons. Together, Michael Roffman, Ana Marie Cox, Ashley Casseday, and Jenn Adams discuss the production history, the cast, the translation from page to screen, the elasticity of the premise, and all the wild, wild arcs that...

Sophia Lillis was just 14 years old when she signed on for her first major role, playing Beverly Marsh, the heart of the so-called Losers of Stephen King’s seminal horror tome “It,” in Andy Muschietti’s two-film take on the material. It was the kind of star-making gig many other performers would be happy to rest on, well, forever. But eight years on from that first feature, Lillis is eager to keep building her resume, moving away from “child actress” into just “actress” territory.
It helps that Lillis was choosy even when she was a “child actress,” taking on the “It” films, the HBO Gillian Flynn miniseries “Sharp Objects,” the underseen Netflix series “I Am Not Okay with This,” and even one spin as Nancy Drew and another as Gretel (of “Hansel & Gretel” fame). “I sometimes picture these unfortunates as men and women being pecked to death by predatory birds. The birds are invisible – at least until a psychiatrist who is good, or lucky, or both, sprays them with his version of Luminol and shines the right light on them – but they are nevertheless very real. The wonder is that so many OCDs manage to live productive lives, just the same. They work, they eat, they go to movies, they make love to their girlfriends and boyfriends, their wives and husbands . . . and all the time those birds are there, clinging to them and pecking away little bits of flesh.”

It Chapter Two brought the stories of the Losers Club and the title creature to an end, but in the process, it made one of the book’s dumbest parts even worse. Stephen King’s It was famously adapted into a miniseries in 1990, with Tim Curry playing the terrifying Pennywise the Dancing Clown, but it wasn’t until 2017 that It made the jump to the big screen. Directed by Andy Muschietti, It became a two-part adaptation, with the first movie covering the Losers Club’s first encounter with It as kids and the second part reuniting with them now as adults, as they faced the title creature one final time.
It Chapter Two saw the shapeshifting creature taking new and scarier shapes in order to get to the now adult Losers, but it also took more victims, among them Eddie Kaspbrak, who died in the sewers while the group tried to defeat Pennywise.

Idris Elba is getting candid about racism he has experienced in Hollywood and his reasons behind having a career in entertainment.
In an interview with Esquire magazine, published online Wednesday, the Luther: The Fallen Sun star said, “I stopped describing myself as a Black actor when I realized it put me in a box.”
“As humans, we are obsessed with race. And that obsession can really hinder people’s aspirations, hinder people’s growth. Racism should be a topic for discussion, sure. Racism is very real. But from my perspective, it’s only as powerful as you allow it to be,” Elba explained. “We’ve got to grow. We’ve got to. Our skin is no more than that: It’s just skin.”

Once again we find ourselves nearing the end of another year full of plot twists, disappointments, and pleasant surprises. Take Jussie Smollett for example: He began the year as a well-respected actor on a popular TV show. But then came the threatening letter mailed to him at Fox, and the alleged racist and homophobic attack. For a moment, the entire internet rallied around him — and then the police investigation turned against him. He lost his spot on “Empire” and was indicted on 16 felony counts including filing a false police report, only to have the charges against him suddenly dropped. And all that happened before May.
Yeah, it’s been a long year.

(Warning: This post contains spoilers for Wednesday’s Season 2 finale of “The Masked Singer.”)
The Fox contestant won Season 2 of the Fox network’s “Masked Singer” Wednesday night and was revealed to be comedian Wayne Brady. And Brady — who beat out fellow finalists Chris Daughtry (who was Rottweiler) and Adrienne Bailon (Flamingo), as well as the 13 other contestants from the singing competition’s second season — told TheWrap his ability to outfox everyone else for the Golden Mask trophy means more to him than scoring an Emmy.
The “Whose Line Is It Anyway” alum, who was nominated for a Grammy for a song off his debut album in 2008, says that the oddball competition is, “at its heart, it’s a singing competition.”
“It’s a singing competition and winning that means the world to me because I am a singer,” Brady told us. “It’s not something that I play at,...
