Applications to film on-location in Los Angeles surged 43.1% in February over January, according to FilmLA, the city and county film permit office.
A late-month surge in production made last month the third-busiest FilmLA has recorded since June, when production tentatively resumed after the Covid-19 shutdown, though the agency said “activity remains around 40% below normal for this time of year.”
“As new Covid-19 case counts diminish and more projects restart production, we are optimistic that the local film economy will soon be back on track,” said FilmLA president Paul Audley. “On-location filming, for months conducted safely in observance of strict health protocols, will surely rise again with the reopening of businesses and expanding vaccine availability.”
Some of the series shot locally that started or resumed filming recently include: Grey’s Anatomy, Curb Your Enthusiasm, This is Us, American Crime Impeachment Story, Shameless, Dear White People, All American, Generation, 9-1-1: Lone Star, Seal Team and You.

As the fate of many Hollywood productions remains up in the air due to the Covid-19 pandemic, particularly as cases sharply rise, HGTV stars Jonathan and Drew Scott — aka the “Property Brothers” — are moving forward with new TV episodes for their vast home-improvement empire.
“The catalyst for us was that construction was never shut down,” Jonathan Scott says. “It was considered essential for obvious reasons, because we can’t have people displaced from their homes. But really, it was a challenge for us. Do we pause the shows and leave these houses as they are, or do we try and get these families back into their homes?”
That’s why the two, via their Scott Brothers Entertainment shingle, are about to complete Season 7 of their series “Brother vs. Brother,” and also beginning the casting process to find six families in the Los Angeles area for “Property Brothers: Forever Home.”

Jonathan Scott and Drew Scott are used to spending a lot of time together. Like, a-lot-a-lot. In addition to their approximately 800 shows—one of which, Property Brothers: Forever Home, is returning for its third season tonight on Hgtv, while Celebrity Iou premiered Monday—the twin brothers lived together for years, flipping houses and cohabiting in accommodations that correspondingly grew bigger along with their success. Drew's longtime girlfriend, Linda Phan, eventually moved right in, too. Now, Linda and Drew are married and Jonathan is happily dating Zooey Deschanel, so the Canadian brothers are no longer housemates (though their respective guest rooms are always open). But...

“If I was going to do it, I would win it,” says “Property Brothers” star Jonathan Scott about the possibility of joining “Dancing with the Stars” sometime in the future. Jonathan actually guested on “DWTS” a couple of times during Drew’s season. “They’re like a big family over there. It was so much fun. They treat you like gold,” he remembers of the experience. “I loved learning to dance, but I’ve never been that stressed in my adult life.”

“It’s one thing to have a beautiful house, but a house is just a collection of studs and windows and decor and things like that. But a home is that safe escape where you can spend time with your family and you can create memories,” says Jonathan Scott about “Property Brothers: Forever Home,” his latest Hgtv series with brother Drew Scott in which they give families living spaces they can build their lives around. Watch our exclusive video interview with the Scotts above.
In the original version of “Property Brothers,” the Scotts helped families buy fixer-uppers that they would renovate and move into. But fans wanted to see them help their clients turn the houses they already own into dream homes for a lifetime. “This is where their kids took their first steps, or this is where in the door frame they’ve been measuring the height of their kids since they were born,...
