Jonathan Majors has landed his first film role since he was convicted in 2023 of domestic assault and fired from Disney’s Marvel Cinematic Universe. He will star in the independent revenge thriller “Merciless,” to be directed by Martin Villeneuve.

Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of “Dune” filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, confirmed the news of Majors’ casting to Variety. Written by Frank Hannah, the film follows a CIA investigator who goes to troubling lengths after the woman he loves is overpowered by sinister forces. It’s expected to be filmed in Saskatchewan in late fall.

Majors was sentenced in April to one year of domestic violence counseling after he was found guilty of assaulting and harassing his ex-girlfriend. Per the Manhattan judge who presided over the two-week trial, Majors must complete a 52-week in-person program in Los Angeles. So, it’s unclear how it will overlap with the shooting schedule for “Merciless.

Exclusive: Jonathan Majors is set to star in the revenge thriller Merciless, which is based on an original screenplay by Frank Hannah. Martin Villeneuve, the younger brother of filmmaker Denis Villeneuve, will direct. The younger Villeneuve is best known for his sci-fi opus Mars et Avril.

Merciless follows a top CIA interrogator who, after the woman he loves is overtaken by a malevolent force, is forced to go even darker to defeat it. The film will mark Majors’ first role since his third degree assault and harassment conviction earlier this year. The movie will shoot in Saskatchewan in late fall.

The Dexter prequel series is moving forward, with filming underway in Miami, Florida. After the success of the sequel series Dexter: New Blood, Showtime and Paramount+ announced the development of a prequel, which has been ordered to series.

Dexter: Original Sin will follow 20-year-old Dexter Morgan as he makes his first kill under the tutelage of his adoptive father, Harry Morgan. Christian Slater will play Harry in the prequel, taking over for James Remar, while The Oa star Patrick Gibson has been cast as the younger Dexter. Molly Brown (Evil) takes over for Jennifer Carpenter as 16-year-old Debra Morgan.

A little over a year ago, Showtime announced that they were ordering a series – then known as Dexter: Origins, now known as Dexter: Original Sin – that would serve as a prequel series to their popular show Dexter, which finished its eight season initial run back in 2013, then recently came back for a new season (called Dexter: New Blood) that appeared to wrap things up for good… for the title character, anyway. Now they’re assembling the cast for Dexter: Original Sin, and The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Christina Milian (Falling Inn Love), James Martinez (Love Victor), Alex Shimizu (The Blacklist), and Reno Wilson (Mike & Molly) have all been cast as characters with names that will be familiar to Dexter fans.
