While The Challenge: Battle of the Eras initially featured 40 cast members, viewers saw Laurel Stucky involved in several dramas and storylines.

Although Laurel hasn’t participated in any showmances or physical altercations, she’s been the focus of attention due to her remarks and altercations with multiple castmates.

Among them are Era 1’s Darrell Taylor and her teammate, Cara Maria Sorbello, with whom Laurel had an intense confrontation.

According to cast members’ off-the-show comments, the episode’s final footage didn’t include much from that particular altercation. Despite The Challenge releasing other unaired footage, it remained hidden from fans.

Ach der lieber! German Expressionism fans everywhere are in sorrow as Sam Esmail’s seven-years-in-the-making passion project, a series adaptation of Fritz Lang’s “Metropolis” has been shelved, Deadline confirms.

The series, from Universal Cable Productions (UCP), had been prepping for production in Australia and was expected to be the biggest TV series ever shot there. It was going to stream on Apple TV+, which had given it a full series order last year. “Push costs and uncertainty related to the ongoing strike led to this difficult decision,” a UCP told Deadline.

In every season of The Challenge, the cast is made up of a mix of players who have played the game at least once before and others who are completely new to the series. But the latest iteration of the show, Spies, Lies & Allies, has an exceptionally high rookie-to-veteran ratio.

MTV on Wednesday revealed the nominations for the 2021 Video Music Awards, and Lil Nas X’s “Montero” is pitted against Cardi B. and Megan Thee Stallion’s “Wap” for Video of the Year.

Among their competition is Justin Bieber, who leads the VMA field with seven nominations. Megan Thee Stallion follows with six nods, followed by Lil Nas X, Billie Eilish, BTS, Doja Cat, Drake, Giveon and Olivia Rodrigo — all of whom have five nods.

Dawn Porter’s Trilogy Films has inked an exclusive overall deal with Industrial Media. Trilogy, the production company behind the critically acclaimed documentary “John Lewis: Good Trouble,” is the sixth company to partner with the independent production group. Industrial Media’s leading unscripted content production roster includes Sharp Entertainment, Ipc, B17 Entertainment, 19 Entertainment and This Machine.

Porter, the non-fiction series filmmaker that directed “Gideon’s Army” and “The Way I See It,” among others, will continue to focus on developing and producing non-scripted projects for film and television with Industrial Media’s support.

“After years of admiring the quality and character of her work, we are honored to officially partner with Dawn Porter,” Industrial’s CEO Eli Holzman and President Aaron Saidman said in a statement on Wednesday. “She is a gifted filmmaker and a prolific producer with a passion for stories that are as engaging as they are meaningful.

It’s hard to overstate the impact that Detective Pikachu had when it first released last year. Although it certainly wasn’t everyone’s favorite movie of 2019, it nonetheless proved that live-action adaptations of video games could be faithful, well-produced, and emotionally resonant after audiences had been fed nothing but Hollywood’s stalest leftovers for decades. Exclusive: Heroes star Masi Oka is set to join the ensemble of Sony’s action thriller Bullet Train starring Brad Pitt. Joey King, Aaron Taylor Johnson, Brian Tyree Henry, Zazie Beetz and Andrew Koji are also on board.

Hobbs & Shaw director David Leitch will direct and also supervise the script, which will be written by Zak Olkewicz.

The film is based on the Japanese novel Maria Beetle by bestselling author Kotaro Isaka. Ryosuke Saegusa and Yuma Terada of Ctb Inc., who represent Isaka and the IP, are executive producers on the project.

Kelly McCormick will produce Bullet Train through 87North, along with Antoine Fuqua. Kat Samick is exec producing and Brittany Morrissey is the executive overseeing the project for Sony Pictures.

Plot details are vague and it is unknown who Oka will be playing as well.

Oka was Emmy and Golden Globe nominated for his role of Hiro in NBC’s drama series Heroes.

Cherry, an upcoming crime drama starring Spider-Man actor Tom Holland, will represent a stark change of tone from his Marvel output. The film follows a Ptsd-afflicted army medic who turns to robbing banks so that he can fund his opioid addiction. Like I said, stark.

That same line highlighting the difference between this and the Marvel movies is also applicable to directors Anthony and Joe Russo. And according to Joe, Holland’s performance in the new pic is a knock-out, with the filmmaker going as far as to say it could be “Oscar worthy.”

When does a silent classic really become a classic? When we can see a reconstituted full original version, which in this case meant decades spent waiting. G.W. Pabst’s celebrated 1927 jeopardy-soap has romance, treachery, murder, a revolutionary war and a score of terrific characters embodied by Brigitte Helm, Sig Arno, Vladimir Sokoloff and the weird Fritz Rasp. But our hearts are stolen by the wistful lady in the title role, Édith Jéhanne, whose natural performance resonates with innocence and devotion. The rambling narrative barely holds together, but this romantic winner is graced with some of the best-directed scenes from silent cinema.

Exclusive: Brit scribe Rebecca Frayn, whose latest feature is the Keira Knightley-starring Misbehaviour which hits UK cinemas next week, is set to direct Spies, based on her father’s 2002 Whitbread Prize-winning novel.

Michael Frayn is handling the adaptation of his own work. The book follows a man as he relives his childhood experiences of the Second World War, retracing his steps as he tries to uncover the secrets of his best friend’s mother who they believe to be a German spy. Belinda Allen is producing the feature through her banner Middlemarch Films with Misbehaviour and The Crown producers Left Bank Pictures also aboard.

Final touches are being made to the screenplay and the team will soon go out to attach a lead actress. Frayn’s writing credits include Luc Besson’s Aung San Suu Kyi biography The Lady, and she has previously helmed several TV projects including one-off drama Whose Baby?...

The return of a former Splinter Cell creative director has fans speculating about the return of the franchise itself.

Maxime Beland, the creative director of Splinter Cell: Conviction and Splinter Cell: Blacklist, has returned to Ubisoft. 

Reports indicate that Beland has returned to Ubisoft as a member of a creative team within the studio that will seemingly preside over the creative process of all upcoming games. It's not clear at this time what the extent of their reach is, but it certainly sounds like future Ubisoft titles will have to get at least some kind of approval from them. 

Beland started at Ubisoft in 1998 as a tester and eventually became a creative director and game design director at the studio. He's contributed to titles like Assassin's Creed, Rainbow Six: Vegas, Far Cry 4, Far Cry Primal, Far Cry 5, and the aforementioned Splinter Cell games. He left for Epic Games...

Over at AMC HQ, Andrew Lincoln and the Powers That Be are busy prepping a cinematic spinoff for the former Walking Dead favorite, who was last seen during “What Comes After” in the midst of season 9.

Suffice it to say, the mainline Walking Dead series has come an awful long way since the AMC flagship and Andrew Lincoln parted ways, but it seems the latter has finally begun his training for the aforementioned movie spinoff. Apparently a fourth week on top of the box-office weekend wasn’t in the cards for Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker as the film was bested by the new film from director Sam Mendes, 1917. The war epic enjoyed a first weekend in wide-release by claiming first place over the weekend and a $36.5 million weekend gross.

Though The Rise of Skywalker lost the top spot this weekend, it did manage to finish in second place and add another $15.1 million, giving it a four-week tally of $478.2 million. Similarly dropping one spot this weekend was Jumanji: The Next Level, which took third place with $14.0 million. The sequel now claims a five-week total of $257.1 million.

The second newcomer to the top ten this past weekend was the comedy Like a Boss, which debuted in fourth place earning $10.0 million. Tied with that was the courtroom drama Just Mercy which finished in fifth,...

Sam Mendes’ WW1 epic 1917, which ranks fourth in the betting for the best picture Oscar, opened in top spot in Australia last weekend and was No. 1 in the Us.

The pundits polled by Gold Derby have the Amblin/DreamWorks production at odds of 8/1, behind Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time…in Hollywood at 7/1 and Martin Scorcese’s The Irishman and Boon Joon Ho’s Parasite, both at 15/2.

The odds for best film, director and other categories may well change tomorrow when the Academy Awards nominations are announced.

‘Jumanji: The Next Level.’

Kids and families are flocking to the Jumanji, Star Wars and Frozen sequels while adults are embracing the original titles Little Women, The Gentlemen and Jojo Rabbit.

French-language dramas The Truth and Portrait of a Lady on Fire are winning upscale audiences, Bollywood fans are savouring Hindi comedy Good Newwz and to a much lesser extent Dabangg 3 while Chinese action adventure Ip Man 4: The Finale is attracting followers of martial arts movies.

All told, the wide smorgasbord of offerings is giving cinemas a much brighter start to the year than 12 months ago, when Aquaman, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World and Ralph Breaks the Internet ruled the roost.

The top 20’s takings for the week ending January 1 totaled $49.5 million, up from $44 million for the corresponding week a year ago. Last weekend the top 20 raked in $26.4 million, according to Numero.

Disney's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker topped the weekend box office for a second weekend in a row, while the weekend's newcomers -- Sony's Little Women and Fox's animated feature Spies in Disguise -- both topped studio expectations as did this weekend's expansion of Uncut Gems, which has now topped $20 million domestically.

With an estimated $72 million, Disney's Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker dipped -59% in its second weekend, pushing the film's domestic gross over $361 million after ten days in release. The drop is much larger than we expected given the past performances of films over the same time frame. It is, however, better than the -67.5% second weekend plunge for The Last Jedi a couple of years ago as it has managed to close the gap between the two films after ten days in theaters.

Internationally, Rise of Skywalker added $94.3 million this weekend for a $363 million...
