Russ Abbot, Bullseye, Noel Edmonds and a film we all watched in the same room. Christmas TV was more exciting in the 80s...
Cast your mind back to when Christmas Day wasn't about Doctor Who followed by sticking something on Netflix until it was time to go watch the annual fist fight outside the pub.

In the 80s, Christmas was about seeing which fantastic fare the TV had decided to bless us with. Of course, the more prepared among us knew this well in advance, having eagerly pored over the Radio Times/TV Times to check that Jimmy Cricket's Family Laugh 'n' Waz would be shown. There it was – right after Reflections On The Eucharist With The Reverend Paul Leyland.

Amyra Dastur who is currently in Iceland for Jackie Chan’s Kung Fu Yoga shot under extreme weather conditions for an important scene.
The actress had to train on ice in spite of freezing temperature for a big action sequence which was to be filmed between her and Jackie Chan.
Since the sequence had to be shot on ice, the actress had no option but to train on it despite the weather conditions. Though it was difficult to perform stunts and move her body, Amyra did not give up and continued to train.
However, Jackie was also there by Amyra’s side and kept on motivating her throughout the shoot because of which the actress could give her hundred percent.

Exclusive: The Toronto-based company has picked up Us distribution and world sales rights to the second film in Bgoi Film’s ‘On Ice’ slasher series.
Geoff Klein and Melissa Mira of Montreal-based Bgoi co-directed and co-produced Pinup Dolls On Ice, which they describe as “an unapologetic love letter to all the old-school slasher films from the 80’s. A very well written love letter…”

Ever thought there should be a Harry Potter TV series? Well, J.K. Rowling doesn't share your vision on that one...
Just a brief one, here. The wizarding world of Harry Potter created by J.K. Rowling has unlimited potential for more stories, as is evident by the upcoming film trilogy Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them and the stage show Harry Potter And The Cursed Child.
If you've ever wondered if Rowling may have a magic-based TV show up her sleeve, though - think again.
She was raised on the subject on Twitter, with a fan asking “We had seven books and 8 movies. We are getting a play and 3 spin off movies. Where is our TV Show @jk_rowling ?!”
As the social-media-savvy author is wont to do, Rowling responded quickly with this sassy sentence: “Right after the opera, Potter-on-ice and the interpretative dance version of Beedle The Bard #NotActuallyHappening”

In short, The Writer’s Tale is both a screenwriting masterclass and an unparalleled look behind the scenes of new Doctor Who. As well as following the production triumphs and emergencies as the show lurches “from one crisis to another”, it lets you witness story ideas being created in the wild. See pivotal Doctor Who moments tottering unsurely out of Davies’ mind like new-born giraffes and watch them transform into sleek, galloping beasts of majesty! Think of it like a classy David Attenborough doc on storytelling, with bonus David Tennant photos and chat about Tony from Skins.

"The Hunger Games" will come to a close in 2015 when the second part of "Mockingjay" flies into theaters, but it's never too late to plan ahead. In addition to plans for a traveling "Hunger Games" exhibit, Lionsgate is building a special theater next to Wembley Stadium in London for its very own "Hunger Games" stage production. The play will debut in the summer of 2016, which is just about when Katniss fans will begin jonesing for another fix.

Even though it’s been almost a week since it ended, Halloween still remains one of my favorite holidays, and not just because I’m a horror junkie. Like Christmas, Halloween is full of wonder and gives kids a chance to let their imaginations run wild. So as much as I love to delve back into my favorite horror titles around the holiday, in recent years I’ve added Costume Quest to my list of seasonal favorites. Four years later, Double Fine has brought back Wren and Reynolds in another adventure to save Halloween in Costume Quest 2, a sequel that manages to improve almost every weak aspect of the first while pushing the story further in a way that’s not incredibly ridiculous.

Rob counts down the top 50 episodes of TV's longest-running animated series, The Simpsons...
Since its debut in 1989, across 552 episodes and 25 seasons, The Simpsons has become one of the most revered and beloved TV programmes of all time. It’s a true cultural phenomenon that’s influenced not just animation, but all areas of TV comedy and sitcom. For so many of us, its quotes and catchphrases have permeated our everyday vernacular, from single words like “crisitunity” and “embiggen” to phrases “you don’t win friends with salad” and “everything’s coming up Milhouse.”
Personal opinions may vary, but for me the show’s peak years were from season 4 through to 10. They’re consistently funny, all killer and no filler runs with barely a dud episode to be found between 1992-1998. Past this point the standard becomes a little more mixed, and recent seasons have been distinctly average at best. The...

Did Jennifer Lopez get her sports mixed up? The "We Are One (Ole Ola)" singer kicked off soccer's biggest event (or futbol if you're anywhere but America) in an outfit that's better fit for the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics. Though, even that is a stretch. This bedazzled look belongs doing triple lutzes...twenty years ago. We can't technically blame the Bronx beauty for this selection. Apparently fans picked the Charbel Zoe design from three she posted. So does that mean J.Lo's fans want to see her perform in Disney On Ice: Frozen? Fyi guys, she's a pop star, not an ice princess. Hit Disney film Frozen is to become a live ice skating show.
The production based on the movie, which has become the sixth highest-grossing movie in box office history, will begin touring in September 2014.
Producer Nicole Feld said: "While it might seem obvious that Frozen is well suited for the ice, this Disney On Ice production will touch audiences emotionally through innovative show elements and world-class skating."
Tickets are already available for Disney On Ice presents Frozen, which will feature Mickey and Minnie Mouse taking the audience through the film's plot.
It was announced in January that Frozen would also be adapted into a Broadway musical.
Meanwhile, Disney chairman Alan Horn recently said that there have been no talks yet about a sequel.
The movie - which was loosely based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Snow Queen - featured the voices of Kristen Bell, Josh Gad and Idina Menzel.

Late in the DVD commentary for the pilot episode of "Hill Street Blues," actor Joe Spano marvels at the show's impact on the medium. "It's extraordinary," he says, "the repercussions of this 48 minutes of television." The cop drama's co-creator Steven Bochco follows by suggesting, "It's sort of a family tree, and if you look at the branches of the tree, you'll see 25 years of television." Bochco is, if anything, underselling the importance of "Hill Street," which is on the short list of the most influential TV shows ever made. Whether through shared actors, writers, directors or through stylistic and thematic complexity, its DNA can be found in nearly every great drama produced in the 30-plus years since it debuted. The show was only occasionally interested in the legal trials of the criminals in its unnamed fictional city, but the complete series DVD set (it arrives in stores on Tuesday, for...

The Simpsons had a very different feel in its first ten seasons than in its last fifteen. Though the show we see today can provide a quick laugh or Family Guy-esque antics, the show’s earlier run contained episodes that had heart as well as comedy. It was far from preachy (particularly if you ask a certain First Lady of America during the late 80s) but The Simpsons contained many truly heartfelt moments that would make you think, reconsider your priorities, or even shed a tear.
Comedy inevitably has the potential be just as emotionally fulfilling as drama, because what makes us laugh can reveal just as much about ourselves as what makes us cry. These moments in Simpsons history are what make the series not just a comedy show, but a work of art.
