Barbara Stanwyck, Robert Taylor, and Joseph Calleia in Lady of the Tropics (1936)

Trivia

Lady of the Tropics

Edit
The first of three films starring Barbara Stanwyck and Robert Taylor; they married in 1939.
Originally planned as a vehicle for Jean Harlow and Clark Gable.
With Prohibition over, Hollywood films were once more awash with cocktails. The Gin Rickey mentioned early on was popular at the time. A highball type drink, consisting of lime juice, gin and club soda, the beverage is traditionally served in a tall glass over ice. It dates to the late 19th century and was supposedly first poured in Washington, D. C.
This film did very well at the box office, earning MGM a profit of $755,000 ($15M in 2021) according to studio records.
This film was first telecast in Los Angeles Friday CA 12 April 1957 on KTTV (Channel 11), followed by Chicago IL 29 April 1957 on WBBM (Channel 2), by Miami FL 28 July 1957 on WCKT (Channel 7), by Columbus OH 12 October 1957 on WLW-C (Channel 4), by Akron OH 18 October 1957 on WAKR (Channel 49), by Norfolk VA 6 November 1957 on WTAR (Channel 3), by Philadelphia PA 11 November 1957 on WFIL (Channel 6), by Honolulu HI 24 November 1957 on KHVH (Channel 13), by Altoona PA 9 December 1957 on WFBG (Channel 10), and by San Francisco CA 13 March 1958 on KGO (Channel 7); in New York City NY, its earliest documented telecast did not take place until Sunday 28 August 1962 on WCBS (Channel 2).
