    The Missing Heir

The Mexicali Kid finds silent screen child actor Wesley Barry in the title role. But this is a Jack Randall western for Monogram and it's a pretty good B film.

Randall saves the life of The Mexicali Kid when he's stranded on the desert. Barry is grateful and the two of them decide to ride the trail together for a spell. Randall then shows up in a new town claiming to be the long lost heir to a ranch that Ellen Stewart has been managing, but whose business affairs are being run by Wilhelm Von Brincken with appropriate Teutonic accent. Germans were just coming into vogue as screen villains.

I can't say too much more without giving the plot away, but let's say everything is settled after the 52 minute running time of this nicely paced B western is concluded.

I've now seen a few of Randall's westerns and generally like them. Randall sat a saddle well and handled dialog better than a lot of his cowboy hero peers. His early death was a real tragedy.

B western aficionados should go for The Mexicali Kid.
