Lady Gaga closed out the first night of Coachella 2025, bringing her dynamic performance style to the desert in a characteristically engaging, highly-choreographed headlining set that already ranks among the best in the festival’s 25-plus year history.
The 20-song set was divided into five acts: “Act I: Of Velvet and Vice,” “Act II: And She Fell Into a Gothic Dream,” “Act III: The Beautiful Nightmare That Knows Her Name,” “Act IV: To Wake Her Is to Lose Her,” and “Finale: Eternal Aria of the Monster Heart.” It began with a pre-recorded message voiced by two versions of herself, one dressed in red and one dressed in white, who said: “Her and I will find a way to live as twins, but I will know if in the end mistress of mayhem wins.”

Gothic gargoyles appeared, lights dimmed, and the crowd chanted the prima donna’s name at the desert operahouse. It was Friday night at Coachella and Lady Gaga was about to tell the story of Mayhem — and give the performance of a lifetime.
Over two hours and four acts, Gaga brought to life the inner battle between two sides of herself: lightness (an angelic, innocent Gaga monster with blonde hair) and darkness (the shadowier “lady in red” she sings about in “Abracadabra”).

In the lead-up to Lady Gaga’s latest album, Mayhem, there’s been a lot of talk about Gaga returning to her roots. It’s been five years since her last pop release, the Nineties-house-inspired, cyberpunk concept album Chromatica. Chalk it up to timing (it was released at the dawn of the pandemic), but the album didn’t inspire the type of fervor it deserved upon its release. Since then, she’s been back to focusing on movies and jazz, even combining those other two modes for Harlequin, a companion...

When Samuel L. Jackson walked onto the field to introduce Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl Lix halftime show, he assumed the voice of a familiar icon: “Salutations, it’s your Uncle Sam,” the actor said, donning a blue top hat embellished with white stars, “and this is the great American game.”
Fans of Lamar will remember this character from To Pimp a Butterfly, where the wily figure encouraged the Compton rapper to feed a rapacious appetite for material goods. “What you want, you? / A house or a car? / Forty acres and a mule, a piano, a guitar?/ Anythin’, see, my name is Uncle Sam, I’m your dog,” intones Lamar in “Wesley’s Theory,” imbuing the character with a haunting voice, like the snake in the Garden of Eden. The rapper uses the specter to stage a battle between the American artist and capitalism, articulating the seductive and parasitic elements of that relationship.

Zoë Kravitz is aware of the comparison people have been making between Channing Tatum’s Blink Twice character and Jeffrey Epstein.
In an interview with IndieWire published Thursday, the actress, who makes her directorial debut with the film starring Tatum and Naomi Ackie, reiterated that despite similarities, Tatum’s character and the story is “all a metaphor” and not based on Epstein. Kravitz wrote the film alongside High Fidelity series writer E.T. Feigenbaum.
The film centers on Ackie’s character Frida, who is whisked away on an island vacation by billionaire Slater King (Channing Tatum). However, things take a darker turn. In Ackie’s Hollywood Reporter cover story, the film is described as a “sort of a Get Out meets Promising Young Woman” and a “social satire plus class warfare plus gender politics.”

Exclusive: Toronto-based genre sales specialist Raven Banner has added Neon Noir horror pics Brute 1976 and Garden of Eden to its Cannes Film Market slate.
Brute 1976 from director Marcel Walz is marketed as a throwback to horror classics such as The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and follows a group of friends who stumble upon the desert town Savage while looking for a spot to set their latest photo shoot, only to meet the depraved, mask-wearing Birdy family, who begin hunting them down one by one.
Sarah French, Gigi Gustin, Dazelle Yvette and Adriane McLean star.
Garden of Eden follows the wealthy and devout Eden family, who choose one lucky guest from each of their parties and give them the opportunity to fulfil their greatest desires. However, a life-changing dream for some may become a nightmare for others.
Walz is the director, and like Brute 1976, was written by Joe Knetter.

Starfield updates have been slowly releasing in the past few months, with the latest update only a few weeks ago. The Creation Kit update for Starfield is an exciting prospect for 2024, but Shattered Space Dlc may release first. The Creation Kit update will add official modding support to Starfield and increase the game's longevity.
The future of Starfield might end up making the game a lot more exciting, and the update that could change everything isn't the Shattered Space Dlc release. Although Starfield has plenty of fans, its reception so far has been a largely mixed one, especially when compared to the success of Bethesda Game Studios titles like The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim. Its expansive world can also feel empty, and the gameplay loop hasn't proven as universally compelling as the best RPGs to come out of the studio.
A disappointing launch isn't always a reason to write off a game,...

From Neon Noir, the upcoming Brute 1976 is said to be a love letter to The Texas Chain Saw Massacre and The Hills Have Eyes, with Joe Knetter (Twilight of the Dead) writing.
In the film, “‘In 1976, Raquel and her girlfriend have car trouble and break down on the side of the road in the middle of nowhere. They stumble upon an abandoned mine and decide to explore it. "Nobody can stay in the garden of Eden" reads one of the most striking lines from James Baldwin's novel Giovanni's Room. This sentiment is especially true for fans of The Simpsons, many of whom consider only select seasons of the program to be its "garden of Eden". For many years, the default position of die-hard fans of the production (especially early devotees) was that seasons three through eight were when The Simpsons was at its peak. This sentiment has grown more complicated in recent years, thanks to newer generations of fans having more positive assessments of 21st-century Simpsons media as well as the program going through a creative renaissance in recent years. However, for many years, academic literature and media analysis of The Simpsons posited that season nine was the beginning of the end for this pop culture institution… and “The Principal and the Pauper” was the episode where everything went downhill.

Godfrey Reggio helped shape the syntax for contemporary commercial advertising, not to mention the music video, with his trilogy of experimental non-narrative films that began with 1983’s Koyaanisqatsi. Reggio’s autodidactic films require users to create their own meaning through the collision of hyperkinetically edited imagery with composer Philip Glass’s evocative music. At 83, Reggio isn’t resting on his laurels—or courting them at all.
After slowing down his rhythm to focus on extended shots trained on human faces in 2013’s Visitors, Reggio’s newest film, Once Within a Time, finds him once again working with more involved edits and compositions. Don’t call it a return to form, though, because he crafted something that looks and sounds quite different. The 52-minute short, co-directed with Jon Kane (who edited 2002’s Naqoyqatsi), conjures the look of Georges Méliès-era, hand-tinted frames while utilizing modern effects to overwhelm the dense frames with information.

This article contains spoilers for "Good Omens" season 2.
If you watched "Good Omens" season 2 when it debuted in July, chances are you've spent the last several weeks humming the same song as a few million other fans of the show. Buddy Holly's "Everyday" is the unofficial theme song of the fantasy comedy series' second season, and it's an earworm that's both impossible to shake and too fun to even want to.
"Everyday" first appeared in the sophomore season trailer, and seemed to be hinting towards some sort of countdown. "Every day/it's a-gettin' closer," Holly sings -- but what's the "it" in question? The apocalypse? An answer to the question of Gabriel's sudden appearance on earth? A big old smooch between the demon Crowley (David Tennant) and the angel Aziraphale (Michael Sheen). The answer turned out to be two of the three, but within the show's story, the...

Note: This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike. The dream bromance we never expected, Michael Sheen and David Tennant just don't quit. The pair make for a yin and yang, chocolate and vanilla, good and evil dynamic in the Neil Gaiman series, Good Omens. Like most of Gaiman's work (including American Gods and The Sandman), Good Omens deconstructs popular mythology, lore, canon, and beliefs with playful wit and larger-than-life characters. Sheen and Tennant's are no exception, playing the angel Aziraphale and the demon Crowley, respectively.
The series chronicles their relationship since the beginning of humanity, back in the Garden of Eden. As The Hold Steady song "Cattle and the Creeping Things" goes:
I heard the dudes blamed the chick
I heard the chick blamed the snake
And I heard they were naked when they got busted
And I heard things ain't been the same since…
Good Omens intertwines...

As of this writing, Greta Gerwig's new satire "Barbie" is poised to rake in close to $100 million in its opening weekend, making it a bone fide hit. Because it is opening alongside the equally hyped Christopher Nolan biopic "Oppenheimer" and the less-ballyhooed but well-reviewed horror film "Cobweb," the summer of 2023 is beginning to resemble the diversity of the 1990s. One might recall the weeks in 1995 when "The Brady Bunch Movie" was playing in theaters at the same time as "Outbreak," "Muriel's Wedding," and John Carpenter's "In the Mouth of Madness." Aesthetic diversity is back, baby.
Prior to "Barbie," Gerwig directed the semi-autobiographical coming-of-age drama "Lady Bird" and the awards darling "Little Women." With "Barbie," Gerwig has moved solidly into the realm of "commercially proven," leading to a well-moneyed Netflix offer for the director to make two new "Chronicles of Narnia" movies. The movie takes place in the southern borders of the United States, “a dangerous area inhabited by Coyotes, Ice officers, and filled with desperate immigrants and refugees”.

When Variety talks to Zoe Saldaña and her husband, the artist and film director, Marco Perego, they’ve only just arrived at the Taormina Film Festival, and are in the process of unpacking. Room service arrives and Zoe apologizes about having to tuck into the salad straightaway. They’re here attending the world premiere of Perego’s debut film as a director, “The Absence of Eden,” a drama that takes place in the murky world of the U.S.’s southern border, a hellish landscape inhabited by Coyotes, Ice officers, desperate immigrants and refugees.
It’s a universe away from the Pandora of the “Avatar” pictures or the science fiction blockbusters “Star Trek” and “Guardians of the Galaxy” Saldaña is more usually associated with. “When I was picked for those films, I had no idea they were going to become franchises. I thought it was going to be a one and done kind of thing.

New ‘Neighbours’ As Reprieved Series Prepares Return
The return of long-running Australian soap “Neighbours” will see a new family, the Varga-Murphys, featuring mums, Remi (Naomi Rukavina) and Cara (Sara West) and teenage sons, JJ (Riley Bryant) and Dex (Marley Williams), moving to the iconic Ramsay Street.
West said: “Cara has a bold, impassioned love for her family and I love that her intentions have, so far, always been good. Rukavina added: “As a stalwart of Australian drama television, the show is on the front foot of showcasing diverse and real representations of Australian families, not in a tokenistic way.”

‘If You Were the Last’ Review: Zoë Chao and Anthony Mackie Are the Cutest Rom-Com Couple of the Year
“If You Were the Last” officially marks lead star Zoë Chao’s Hollywood takeover. After stealing scenes in Netflix’s return-to-form rom-com “Your Place or Mine” and being a welcome addition to “Party Down” Season 3, Chao leads the indie sci-fi romantic comedy opposite Anthony Mackie. The two leads’ already formidable charisma goes off the charts when they are put side by side. The chemistry? It’s out of this world.
Chao plays astronaut captain Jane, who is trapped in an adrift spaceship with her lieutenant, scientist Adam (Mackie). Three years into a NASA mission, and Jane and Adam are lost, alone with each other, and counting down the days until their inevitable starvation. The film is set in the not-so-distant future where Matt Damon is still around (and still a go-to celebrity to name check), adding a charming familiarity to a film still rooted in the present. The term “passion project” is thrown around a lot in Hollywood; usually as a reference to a personal story that means a ton to its writer, director or star.
But what kind of pressure does that put on the rest of the cast and crew?
This Oscar season, there are a lot of so-called passion projects that have received accolades. Among them: “The Fabelmans,” a family story that was inspired by director and co-writer Steven Spielberg’s own parents; “The Banshees of Inisherin,” a script that writer-director Martin McDonagh spent years perfecting set in an era in Irish history that few outsiders might know about; and the Marvel movie “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” for which director and co-writer Ryan Coogler had to follow the success of the film’s predecessor, 2018’s “Black Panther” while doing justice to its late star, Chadwick Boseman.

Celebrities once again ran up the score for Super Bowl advertisers.
The most-watched Super Bowl Lvii ad on YouTube on Sunday was Melissa McCarthy’s Booking.com spot, in which the actor and comedian is whisked away on a whirlwind musical tour of gorgeous vacation getaways. John Travolta’s T-Mobile ad, crooning a riff on “Summer Nights” (alongside Zach Braff and Donald Faison), was No. 2.
Other celebrity-driven ads in YouTube’s Top 10 came from Skechers (Snoop Dogg), Pepsi (Steve Martin), Paramount+ (Sylvester Stallone), Rakuten (with Alicia Silverstone reprising Cher from “Clueless”), Google Pixel and Avocados From Mexico (featuring a naked Anna Faris as Eve in a reimagined Garden of Eden).
