No more than any other story about cowboys, horses and cattle drives. You would do better to ask if this story by Borden Chase influenced Louis L'Amour, and if L'Amour in turn influenced McMurtry. Pretty much every cattle drive story is the same except for the way the characters are developed by the writer. The characters are not at all similar.
