Although Tom Corbett was supposed to be a teenager, Frankie Thomas was 30 years old when the series debuted.

After his death in 2006, Frankie Thomas was buried in his Tom Corbett costume.

The series' concept was based on Robert Heinlein's book "Space Cadet". The phrase "blast off" originated on this program.
