Fray Escoba

3 reviews
6/10

An agreeable biography of the father Saint Martin de Porres , a philantropic and extremely religious Peruvian priest .

Nicce movie stars René Muñoz who had a short but successful career such as Bienvenido, padre Murray , Cristo negro and especially this Fray Escoba about the Spanish devotee Martin de Porres . As Martín, (René Muñoz) is the son of a Spanish gentleman and a Panamanian mulatto (Esther Zulema) , was born in Lima in 1579 . With his father , already governor of Guayaquil, and a promising future within his reach, he decided to enter the convent of Santo Domingo run by Padre Prior (Jesús Tordesillas) and others priests as Fray Barragán (Juan Calvo in similar role to Fray Papilla from Marcelino Pan y Vino). There he becomes 'Fray Escoba', a nickname he receives for his obsession with sweeping and sweeping without rest, while laughing happily. Years go by and, to his amazement, Martín discovers how God uses him to perform miracles while his fame and apostolic work spread throughout the country.

A nice and enjoyable movie inspired by the life of the Spanish devotee Martín de Porres. An agreeable and thoughtful drama for the historical-minded people , concerning religion and a kind priest who sacrifices himself for others with nice mood , well-performed , and evocative scenarios . An inspiring actual life story and legend of a very good man who gives charity , love and even making miracles created a grateful community with plenty . Sympathy , fraternity , goodness , companionship, sacrifice mantain a real grip across , including a sensitive finale , adding other moving events . Along the way , the film reflects the way of life in religious community and even appearing . Stars René Muñoz who gives an attractive acting as as the likeable , kind and sacrificed Father Martin de Porres . Main and support cast are frankly acceptable , such as : Xan das Bolas , Irán Eory , Alfredo Mayo, Mariano Azaña, Roberto Rey , Barta Barri , José Riesgo, Antonio Jiménez Escribano , Félix Dafauce , Carmen Porcel and Rafel Hernandez .

The motion picture was professionally directed by Ramón Torrado . This craftsman Torrado was born in 1905 , Galicia, Spain . He was a director and writer , known for directing some vehicles of known Folkloric stars such as Peret in Amor a Todo gas (1969) , Manolo Escobar in Un Beso en Puerto (1966) and Paquita Rico in Malvaloca (1954). The nice craftsman Torrado directed four mediocre Chorizo Westerns such as 1964 La Carga De la Policía Montada , 1964 Relevo a Pistolero and 1963 Bienvenido, Padre Murray and 1965 Los Cuatreros .Rating Fray Escoba(1961) : 6/10 . The picture will appeal to vintage Spanish picture aficionados , as well as religious cinema fans.

Best Movie ever

I loved this movie Rene Munoz, did a super acting as Fray Escoba.

When I used to see Rene in other acting jobs for some reason he was always fray Escoba in my eyes. I recommend this movie for any one to see. I rated it a 10.

Rene Munoz

Martin de Porres is his role. Nobody can explore, in so wise, beautiful and precise manner the nuances of a saint who becomes, performed by Munoz, our contemporary. At first, the option of director for him seems skin color matter. Scene by scene, film by film you discover his brilliant art to create his character as a delicate embroidery of details. A film who makes you nostalgic . Because that delicacy, the gift to know the value of small things, the cinematography itself are, for long time, for far time, just lost.
