Today, Keanu Reeves is one of the most recognizable actors in the world. He may be best known for his incredible portrayal of John Wick, the expert Underworld assassin and main character of the ongoing John Wick franchise, but Reeves has been around for decades. Reeves has been in plenty of iconic franchises. He played Neo in The Matrix (1999), John Constantine in Constantine, and his latest film had him voicing Shadow the Hedgehog in Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024).
Since Keanu Reeves is still such a popular movie star, it's hard to believe that he's been acting for over 40 years. Especially when one takes into consideration how youthful Keanu Reeves still looks and that he does a lot of his own stunts. Reeves was born in 1964, making him 60 years old, but he certainly doesn't look it.

Carl Reiner's 1961 sitcom "The Dick Van Dyke Show" was immensely popular over its five seasons, and won 15 Emmys in its lifetime. Like several sitcoms of its ilk, "The Dick Van Dyke Show" was a metanarrative autobiography about a character named Rob Petrie (Van Dyke) who was a comedy writer for an in-universe variety show called "The Alan Brady Show." Petrie, from appearances, is an amalgam of Van Dyke and Reiner. Indeed, in the show's original pilot -- back when it was going to be called "Head of the Family" -- Reiner played Rob Petrie himself. The show was more or less a common domestic drama beyond that, with many stories springing from Rob's relationship with his wife Laura (Mary Tyler Moore), or their son Richard Robert Oscar Sam Edward Benjamin Ulysses David "Ritchie" Petrie (Larry Mathews). The show featured wacky buddies, obsequious bosses, and other broad character types that,...

The overlap of awards season with a fire season has posed a stern test of Hollywood fortitude. Will there be shelf space for statuettes?
If Hollywood needs some optimism I’d propose it look to Jon M. Chu, who has contributed both a sharp, but unnoticed, new book plus a hit movie to advance his mission. His Wicked won the Cinematic and Box Office Achievement honor at the Golden Globes, but the kudo crowd also owes Chu a bow for his memoir Viewfinder, which poses his dissent on current issues.
Viewfinder details the hazardous trek of a young Chinese-American filmmaker seeking to pursue his zeal for pure “entertainment” in an industry that periodically seems disdainful of that concept.
As he preps his Wicked sequel at Universal, Chu, at 46, can look back upon a formidable list of snubs, slaps, cancellations and ethnic putdowns littering his younger years.

In Spider-Man’s corner of the Marvel Universe, Mary Jane Watson has had Peter Parker’s back through his many ups and downs in the comic space while consistently dealing with the consequences of his heroic alter ego in both her personal and eventual superhero life. Inspired by the real-life actress Ann-Margret Olsson, Mary Jane shares more than this Hollywood starlet's good looks and sense of style, with her character owing practically everything to Ann-Margret simply existing.
Technically making her debut in a face-obscuring cameo in The Amazing Spider-Man #25, it wasn’t until 1966’s The Amazing Spider-Man #42, by Stan Lee and John Romita Sr., that Mary Jane made her presence known after she memorably introduced herself to Peter with the iconic line, “Face it, Tiger… you just hit the jackpot.”

Dick Van Dyke‘s Missouri family was of modest means, but the young man decided early to carve out a career on show business as a comedian. During his senior year, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force, where he met a colleague who worked at CBS, who recommended him to the network, which was so pleased with the young comic that they signed him to a seven-year contract.
But Van Dyke’s first love was performing on stage, and he got his big break as songwriter Albert Peterson in the new musical “Bye Bye Birdie,” for which he won the Tony Award as Best Featured Actor in a Musical. Dick Van Dyke is the star of Coldplay’s music video for the band’s latest single, “All My Love,” which sees the 98-year-old Hollywood legend dancing barefoot and duetting with frontman Chris Martin.
Directed by Spike Jonze and Mary Wigmore, the seven-minute video is more like a short film as Van Dyke — who turns 99 on Dec. 13 — reflects on his nearly eight-decade career. The Golden Globe, Tony and Emmy winner is best known for starring in the movie musicals “Bye Bye Birdie,” “Mary Poppins” and “Chitty Chitty Bang Bang” — and he proves in the “All My Love” music video that he still has the moves that made him famous. At one point, he even breaks out his signature bowler hat.
Shot at Van Dyke’s Malibu home, the video interweaves footage of Van Dyke, his family and Martin in his backyard with archival photographs and interview clips. “I’m acutely...

Dick Van Dyke made a grim joke after the election, implying that he would rather be dead than live through another four years under Donald Trump.
The Hollywood legend, who turns 99 next month, was approached in a paparazzi video taken Tuesday (via Daily Mail) and asked, “Does the future look bright for America?”
“I hope you’re right,” Van Dyke said, before he was asked whether he thinks Trump “is capable of making America great again.”
“Fortunately, I won’t be around to experience the four years,” Van Dyke quipped.
A day before the election, the “Mary Poppins” and “Bye Bye Birdie” star posted a video online endorsing Kamala Harris for president. In the video, he read a speech that he delivered at a 1964 civil rights event alongside Martin Luther King Jr.
“Hatred is not the norm. Prejudice is not the norm. Suspicion, dislike, jealousy, scapegoating, none of those are...

Dick Van Dyke is a national treasure. For the better part of a century, the comedic actor has been entertaining audiences with his endlessly flexible physical comedy, his sunny personality, and his big heart. He makes everything he's in better, which means there's really no such thing as a bad Dick Van Dyke movie. Plenty of Van Dyke's films are crowd-pleasers, but only one was ever a certified, unanimously loved critic-pleaser -- at least according to Rotten Tomatoes.

What is your favorite Sherman Brothers song from the endearing 1964 Walt Disney musical fantasy “Mary Poppins”? Perhaps it’s Robert B. and Richard M’s peppy “Spoonful of Sugar.” Or the Oscar-winning “Chim Chim Cher-ee” and tongue-twisting “”Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious.” It’s no secret that Disney himself loved the haunting “Feed the Birds.” Disney would often summon Richard M. to his office to play the ballad. “It’s about a lot more than birdseed for birds,” Sherman told me in a 2018 L.A. Times interview. “The song is about the simple act of giving. He’d just say, ‘Play it for me.’ And I’d sing and play it for him, and he’d say ‘Yep, that’s what it’s all about.”’
And it seems that even decades after his death in 1966, it was still what it was all about for Disney. Back in 2015, the studio unveiled the restoration of Disney’s office on the Burbank lot.

"Petticoat Junction" was the unofficial second part of the Paul Henning Hooterville trilogy, a trio of 1960s sitcoms about the clash between city slickers and country bumpkins. In 1962, Henning created "The Beverly Hillbillies," a series about hillbillies who, when they strike oil, move to Beverly Hills. In 1965, he inverted the formula with "Green Acres," a show about millionaires who move to a farm to learn about country living. Sandwiched in between the two was "Petticoat Junction," which debuted on September 24, 1963. "Junction" took place at the Shady Rest Hotel, overseen by the lovable widowed hayseed Kate Bradley (Bea Benederet). She and her uncle Joe (Edgar Buchanan) would run the hotel and oversee the shenanigans of her three daughters Betty Jo, Billie Jo, and Bobbie Jo.

Resident Alien Season 4's New Villain Means It's Even More Important That 1 Character Doesn't Return
Warning: Spoilers ahead for the Resident Alien season 3 finale.
Heather must stay hidden due to the Mantid threat, which endangers her identity. The mysterious Mantid poses a new threat in Resident Alien, with shapeshifting and psychic abilities. The Mantid may be able to impersonate Heather using her DNA even if she never physically returns, adding to the suspense.
Resident Alien season 3's last-minute villain looks to be a major part of the show's plans, but the new antagonist means another member of the Resident Alien cast will need to remain where she is until the danger has passed. Resident Alien season 4 hasn't been confirmed, but the Resident Alien season 3 ending made it clear the writers want to continue telling Harry Vanderspeigle's story. The Grey Aliens have been the main threat for a while, but with their plot foiled for now, the stage is set for a new bad guy to enter the fray.

After Lucille Ball's spunky housewife Lucy signed off on the last episode of "I Love Lucy" but before Mary Tyler Moore did away with the nuclear family sitcom model with her own self-titled show, another actress was one of the faces of womanhood in comedy. Oscar-winning actress Donna Reed headlined "The Donna Reed Show" from 1958 to 1966, playing middle-class mother and housewife Donna Stone in the popular black-and-white series. Reed starred opposite Carl Betz, who played Donna's husband, pediatrician Dr. Alex Stone. In season 5, family friends Midge and Dave joined the fun, but for the most part, the show was all about the lighthearted hijinks of the Stone family.
Though "The Donna Reed Show" was popular upon release, it's now perhaps most often referenced as a pop cultural window into a time before second-wave feminism, when women were expected to spend their time cooking, cleaning, and child-rearing while men went to work.

The following contains spoilers for Resident Alien Season 3, Episode 6, "Bye Bye Birdie," which debuted March 20 on Syfy.
When it comes to relationships in Resident Alien, it's easy to see why so many of them fracture. The snowy Colorado town of Patience has many strong personalities. Some are eccentric, some are selfish, while others can't help but lie.
These relationships give the Syfy series a dramatic, soap opera feel at times, amid all the sci-fi and dark comedy. In Episode 6, "Bye Bye Birdie," more arguments unfold, and two bonds come to a boil. However, while they are fractured, a relatively fresh one is saved in what could be one of the show's most decisive, influential arcs yet.

Sheriff Mike Thompson has shown the most growth and character development on Resident Alien, and has gone from apathetic to compassionate. The reduced episode count in season 3 drives the plot forward while focusing on character interactions and emotional progress. Female characters like Liv have played a significant role in Mike's evolution, showcasing his growth beyond just personal relationships.
Resident Alien is full of eccentric characters, but one in particular has come much further as a person than any of their fellow residents of Patience, Colorado since the show started in 2021. The chemistry between the Resident Alien cast has long been one of the show’s best features, with the absurdist comedy relying on the characters' quippy retorts, smart comebacks, and sarcastic comments. Enjoy Heather the Avian Alien while you can, folks, because if the title of the next episode is any indication, she's soon leaving the nest.
The title is "Bye Bye Birdie."
If there's one thing that we know after Resident Alien Season 3 Episode 5, it's that Harry isn't going to save the world if Heather sticks around.
Kudos again to Alan Tudyk and Edi Patterson for putting so much life into Harry and Heather as they flock together.
I often wonder what the blooper reel for Resident Alien must be like, and after watching those two at the friendly dinner at Asta and D'Arcy's place, I'm more certain than ever they'd need an additional season to share all of the blooper joy.
With so much comedic antics going on, you might think there wouldn't be much time for story, but you'd be wrong.

She was among the most nominated performers in Tony Award history – she earned 10 nominations, winning twice (for The Rink and Kiss of the Spider Woman) and receiving the 2018 Special Tony Award for Lifetime Achievement in the Theatre.

"Mary Poppins" has been a beloved children's film since its release in 1964. The musical comedy was a veritable hit among British and American audiences alike and launched the career of the incomparable Julie Andrews, who became one of the brightest stars of the late 20th century.
The Disney classic swept the 1965 Oscars, earning Andrews an Academy Award for her performance and snagging additional awards for visual effects, editing, and music. The film was a great triumph for the studio as well as the stars. It was immediately recognized as the masterpiece that it is and has only retained and strengthened its legendary status with age.

It’s probably safe to say that Your Monster is the only film ever to score a sex scene to Jimmy Durante’s raspy voice singing, “I could turn the gray skies to blue, if I only had you.” Caroline Lindy’s first feature (based on her short) is a singing, dancing, skewed comic take on rom-coms, heartbreak, rebounds and revenge. Full of affection for big Broadway-style tunes, with a heroine whose dream man is soft-hearted but also not human, it is a sharp, witty confection.
Laura Franco (Melissa Barrera), a would-be actress, is in the hospital recovering from cancer surgery when her boyfriend breaks up by text. As we see in the opening sequence, she howls and weeps, but even as she’s being wheeled out of the hospital, we hear Dick Van Dyke cheerfully singing “Put on a Happy Face” from the original Broadway cast album of Bye Bye Birdie.

Where can you see emotions going through ups and downs in real-time and in full view, given full attention by a spotlight? Yes, only in the theater. However, the new movie Theater Camp, directed by Molly Gordon and Nick Lieberman, goes far beyond just the making of a stage production. The immediacy of the art form, with absolutely no filter between the artist and the audience, has fascinated me since my childhood. This new film is a roller coaster ride, showing behind the scenes what goes into creating engaging stage productions. It could have taken several styles to deftly craft the narrative on screen, but the directorial choice of making it a mockumentary works for the most part. In the part where it doesn’t work, it leaves an overcooked quality to the story, giving the impression that the jokes were pushed beyond their limits. But overall, the film drives...

Part of what I love about filmmaking is how it is able to transform artifice into reality and truth. When two characters come together for a big climactic kiss in the rain, the reality of the situation is that these are two co-workers who barely know each other, standing on two different colored pieces of tape, as a giant mechanized sprinkler system looms over their heads. Yet when we see it on the big screen, we believe it. That's true movie magic.
One of my favorite parts of this process, when it comes to studio filmmaking, is the backlot. Movie studios have constructed city streets, town squares, and so much more on their land for productions to use and reuse for decades. Instead of going on location and dealing with permits, spacial limitations, crowd control, and more, they have these preset areas all to themselves. They appear in countless films,...

Ann-Margret is one of the most famous actresses and sex symbols of the '60s, remaining a big name in the film industry today. Although she took a role in the musical State Fair, Bye Bye Birdie (1963) was the film that made her a household name and ultimately one of the most talked-about stars of the decade. Viva Las Vegas, in which she starred opposite Elvis Presley, also played a part in the launching of the actress' career.
