In 2022, Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media revived the Scream franchise with a new entry (the fifth) that was a box office hit, earning almost $139 million at the global box office. Fourteen months later, Scream VI came along – and became an even bigger hit, pulling in almost $169 million at the global box office, a number that was up there with the series’ heyday, when the first Scream and Scream 2 made just over $170 million. (Scream 3 also made over $160 million – only Scream 4 failed to crack $100 million.) So, of course, the companies are moving full steam ahead with Scream 7. While the movie seemed, initially, to be on the fast-track to success, the track it’s on has turned out to be a shockingly bumpy ride.

With Season 2 coming sometime this year, Wednesday star Jenna Ortega has teased an upcoming episode based around slashers.
Per Variety, Season 2 of the Addams Family series, centering around the eponymous Wednesday Addams, will have a "whole episode based off of slashers," says Ortega. The actress further promises fans that Wednesday Season 2 will be full of horror references and more ambitious than the first season. Ortega hinted that the first half of the upcoming season drew inspiration from films like Carrie, Prom Night, and Beetlejuice, which, coincidentally, had a recent legacy sequel starring Ortega. Like the first, this upcoming season will again see Tim Burton as executive producer and director for the season's first half.
Wednesday Season 2 will also be more visually impressive. Ortega states, "Visually, I can say we have some of the most fun we've ever had." She also stated, "I feel like we kind of had a little bit more trust,...

“Wednesday” Season 2 is set to premiere on Netflix sometime in 2025, but it sounds like ideas are already being conjured up for episodes beyond that.
Jenna Ortega, the star of the hit dark comedy series, told Collider that the writers are “messing around and throwing out ideas” for Season 3 of the “Addams Family” offshoot.
“We haven’t gotten an official thumbs up or anything like that, but I know that the writers are… With a show like that, you kind of want to get ahead of the game,” Ortega said.
And while there is still no release date for the second season of “Wednesday,” Ortega provided an update on the long-awaited installment.
“We’re still in the edit. I was doing Adr for it two weeks ago,” she said. “That’s the funny thing about these jobs is you’re done, you wrap, but you’re not really done. So, I...

Jenna Ortega became internationally famous when she took the titular role in Netflix's hit Addams Family spin-off, Wednesday. While the actress has long certified her status as a scream queen, few people remember she had her big feature role in a Marvel film.
Ortega's name is now tied to several horror films, and she has proven her acting talents in many darker projects. However, her first feature film was 2013's Iron Man 3. The actress played a very small role as a child actor, playing the daughter of the U.S. Vice President (played by Miguel Ferrer), and appeared briefly on the screen. With rumors about her joining the MCU, Ortega didn't show much interest in the superhero world when speaking to Entertainment Tonight.

For Jenna Ortega, getting in touch with Wednesday's lead meant staying true to her character's artistic roots.
Speaking with Den of Geek ahead of the new film Death of a Unicorn's release, Ortega talked about playing the fan-favorite The Addams Family daughter and the role Charles Addams' The New Yorker cartoons played in helping her get Wednesday Addams right. "In between season 1 and season 2, I actually went to this antiquarian bookshop and I picked up some of the first published books of Charles Addams. I kept that on my bedside table as we were shooting just for reference. You know, looking at [his] dark tools," she said. On top of that, Ortega researched another of Addams' books "that was just stuff that inspired him throughout the years. Like weird families and weird things like that."

Jenna Ortegais often dubbed as the scream queen of our times, the actor has proven her acting prowess appearing in iconic horror franchises like Scream, Beetlejuice, and Addams Family spin-off Wednesday. She is currently promoting her upcoming film in the genre, Death of a Unicorn, where she stars opposite Paul Rudd. However, there is another iconic franchise she’d like to join next – Gremlins.

The Gremlins franchise returns next month with the second half of the second season of animated series Gremlins: The Wild Batch, and we’ve also heard recent rumblings about a third live action movie finally starting to take shape. Warner Bros. is reportedly exploring a new movie from original Gremlins writer Chris Columbus, but we’ll believe it when we see it.
One person who’s hoping for the return of the Gremlins to the big screen? Jenna Ortega, who’s no stranger to making her mark on iconic movie franchises. Ortega has thus far appeared in the Scream, Beetlejuice, and Addams Family franchises, and it sounds like her phone line is open for any and all calls regarding those adorable Mogwai and those nasty little Gremlins.

Wednesday Season 2 has been a long time coming. Season 1 first dominated Netflix airways in November 2022. Since then, however, due to a combination of the 2023 Hollywood strikes and possible internal drama, the second set of episodes has remained elusive.

Netflix's Wednesday series was hailed upon release as a delightful update to the Addams Family franchise. The daughter of Charles Addams' iconic clan of ghoulish outsiders has traditionally been a supporting figure in most adaptations, only to receive a huge boost from Christina Ricci's iconic performance in the two live-action Addams Family movies in the 1990s. Wednesday puts Jenna Ortega in the role and center stage for the first time to deal with the trials and travails of high school. It proved to be an enormous hit, and after a number of delays, the second season will be coming to fans later in 2025.
The first season includes a key subplot involving Wednesday's mother, Morticia, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones, who has traditionally played a much larger role in Addams Family projects. She's returning for Season 2, along with the rest of the clan, though her precise role in the plot is as yet unknown.

Rich had been the marketing head of United Artists Releasing, which was formed from the union of MGM and Annapurna in 2019. In a note to staff, Rich wrote he was stepping away to explore “new opportunities during this incredible time of change in the industry, and am confident that this is the right time for me to do that.” The departure is being characterized as amicable.

Catherine Zeta-Jones is a killer. The Oscar-winning actress — most recently seen playing Morticia Addams in Netflix's Wednesday — has signed on to lead a new, darkly comedic thriller series for Prime Video called Kill Jackie. According to new reporting from Variety, Kill Jackie (which is currently its working title and may change — but we think they'd be fools to do so) is said to follow Jackie Price, a woman, "who has been living a wealthy, luxurious existence for the last 20 years – traveling the world, selling fine art using sophisticated tax loopholes and, above all, trying to stay anonymous after escaping a dangerous past as an international cocaine dealer."

As Los Angeles residents return home to sort through the rubble of their lives after the devastating fires that ravaged much of the area, there have been a lot of heartbreaking stories to come out of the region. Some people lost a little, while others lost everything, including treasured memorabilia they'd spent years collecting. Case in point: actor Carel Struycken and his wife, Tracey. Struycken portrayed The Giant in the original run of David Lynch's Twin Peaks in 1990, and The Fireman in 2017's Twin Peaks: The Return. Sadly, Lynch passed away earlier this month, making Struycken's loss of his one-of-a-kind Twin Peaks memorabilia and costumes even more upsetting.
Speaking with Variety, Struycken, a longtime character actor also known for his role in the live-action Addams Family movies, revealed that he wasn't able to save much of anything from his Altadena, California home, let alone his Twin Peaks treasures. He...

Amongst the thousands of people who have lost their homes during the devastating Los Angeles wildfires this January, there are many familiar faces. This includes Carel Struycken, whose iconic presence has featured in numerous films and TV shows over the past several decades, including Barry Sonnenfeld’s Addams Family films and Twin Peaks, in which he played first The Giant, and then (in The Return) The Fireman.
Struycken may also be familiar from key roles in Men in Black, Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleep, The Witches of Eastwick, and Star Trek: The Next Generation. The 76-year-old actor and his wife, who resided in Altadena, lost everything after the Eaton Fire burned through their neighborhood. One of the biggest problems with Netflix's Wednesday was also, ironically, one of the reasons why the series became and continues to be so successful. Though updates on Wednesday season 2 have been lacking since filming wrapped, the series continues to fascinate and entertain audiences as the Tim Burton spinoff tells the story of Wednesday Addams (Jenna Ortega) and her adventures in Nevermore Academy. However, to some, the series failed to capture the essence of the source material through its shift in format and tone.
Though Wednesday was meant to mirror the original Addams Family franchise, it instead moved to copy aspects from many supernatural teen dramas on Netflix, such as The Chilling Adventures Of Sabrina and Stranger Things. The original The Addams Family series was a satirization of the classic family sitcom, but its morbid humor and slapstick moments contrast with Wednesday's more serious storyline, drawing it away from the franchise's primary intention.

There have been several live-action interpretations of The Addams Family, and in this day and age, some characters have begun to stand out among the rest. For decades, each member of the family has entertained fans with their unique brand of macabre magic, worming their way into American pop culture like a maggot through a corpse. Still, as the times change and adaptations like Netflix's Wednesday bring the kooky family members to the modern age, the characters that most appeal to audiences change along with them.
The Addams Family got its start with Charles Addams' comic strips in 1938, and the First Family of Fright has been immortalized with a television series, several cartoons, a few live-action films, and Netflix's Wednesday. Through each franchise adaptation, each character in the Addams Family mythos is distinct, with a perfect amalgamation of humor and horror. Among the shows coming in the year ahead are new seasons of many shows we haven’t seen in several years such as Wednesday, The Wheel of Time, and The Last Of Us. Wednesday Addams is one of the most iconic characters of all time. Her signature gothic fashion, macabre sense of humor, and disregard for societal norms have been delighting audiences since 1938 when she first appeared in Charles Addams's New Yorker comic strips. Since then, the character has been portrayed in multiple television shows, animations, and feature films.
Christina Ricci brought Wednesday to life in two beloved 1990s films, The Addams Family and Addams Family Values. The films were incredibly successful and remain fan favorites to this day. Her flawless performance instantly established her as the definitive version of the character for decades. However, in 2022, Netflix premiered its series Wednesday, with Jenna Ortega delivering a brilliant performance that reinvented the character for a new generation. Ortega's portrayal has sparked debate among fans about whether Ricci's Wednesday remains the definitive version or if Ortega's rendition has claimed the title.

35 years later, Tim Burton still hasn't beat his own box office record, which he accomplished with his third feature movie. Though he has directed many popular titles throughout his career, even Tim Burton's best movies aren’t known for being blockbuster successes. Rather, they're loved for their signature gothic tone and practical visuals, as well as their weird worlds and unique characters. The director's filmography has some contrasting titles, ranging from great to controversial to middling, and consists mainly of remakes of popular stories and Burton originals.
Notably, Burton finally gained redemption after Dumbo's flop and is having an artistic resurgence at the moment — having re-found his passion for unconventional and grotesque narratives with the Netflix adaptation of the Addams Family, Wednesday, and the sequel to his 1988 cult classic, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. Accordingly, many were on the lookout for Burton's response to a possible The Nightmare Before Christmas sequel, as...

Since The Addams Family first originated as a comic in 1938, Wednesday Addams has stolen the hearts of audiences, yet the most recent iteration of the character in Netflix's Wednesday may be the most unique version of them all. First released in 2022, Wednesday stars Jenna Ortega as Wednesday Addams, the dark and brooding teenage daughter of the iconic Addams Family. After getting suspended from yet another school, Wednesday is unwillingly enrolled at Nevermore Academy, a school for outcasts where she quickly gets pulled into a murderous mystery that spans back generations.
Netflix's Wednesday stands out because it is an intriguing mix of old and new. As previously mentioned, The Addams Family first started as a comic strip created by Charles Addams. It eventually transformed into a television series in 1964, and later, was adapted into popular movies in the 1990s. The first season of Netflix's Wednesday became one of the streaming service's biggest hits when it premiered on Nov. 23, 2022. Not only did the show benefit from the celebrated stylings of director Tim Burton, but it made a star out of Jenna Ortega and even launched a social media dance craze based on the title character's now-iconic moves at her high school rave. Perhaps most importantly, Wednesday delivered a funny and respectful update on the beloved Addams Family franchise by sending the oldest daughter Wednesday to boarding school and letting her stand on her own for the first time. In light of all that, it can be surprising to learn that Season 2 of Wednesday currently lacks a premiere date.
With shooting for Wednesday Season 2 delayed from its initial schedule to April 2024, and post-production likely a lengthy process considering the show's copious special effects, the second season is off the service's...

The end of a three-year wait is finally in sight for fans of Tim Burton's series Wednesday. Updated with the latest: Wednesday’s sophomore season has officially wrapped production. Before this, the latest update on the sophomore season set at Nevermore Academy involved the guest appearance of a certain Mother Monster.
After the runaway success of Netflix and Tim Burton’s Addams Family stand-alone series Wednesday starring Jenna Ortega, the streamer renewed it for a second season in January 2023. That decision came less than three months after the eight-episode Season 1 premiered. It eventually became the most-watched original series ever on the streamer, with more than 252 million views to date, far surpassing Stranger Things Season 4, Dahmer, and Season 1 of Bridgerton on the all-time list.
Season 1 received 12 Emmy nominations, including for Ortega in Lead Actress in a Comedy Series. She became just the third Latina ever to be nominated in a leading actress category. The series won four Emmys, though Ortega lost out to Abbott Elementary‘s Quinta Brunson on Emmy night.

Wednesday's filming update suggests the series might return at a perfect time next year. Season 1 of the Netflix hit series that stars Jenna Ortega as the titular character and Emma Myers as Enid Sinclair aired in November 2022. Though the series was a huge success, due to Covid-19, writers' strikes and other roadblocks, production for Wednesday season 2 didn't start until May 2024.

Tim Burton is known for his gothic movies, and he has firmly defined the genre with movies such as Edward Scissorhands. A new actor has been added to the growing cast of J.J. Abrams' mystery movie at Warner Bros. Barbie star Emma Mackey has boarded the untitled feature in an undisclosed role.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Mackey is now the third cast member signed on to the mystery movie, joining Glenn Powell (Twisters) and Jenna Ortega (Wednesday), who were previously announced back in May and August, respectively. Mackey's role is being described as "the female lead," although the casting report goes on to state that Powell, Ortega, and Mackey will make up the movie's "trifecta of leads," which suggests that Ortega's role in the movie will be just as substantial as Mackey's.
