Featured review
With the likes of Tsuruta Koji, and Takakura Ken, you have already understood that this movie was not a romance drama, but a fierce and gritty yakuza thriller flick. Only missed Ando Noburu and Tetsua Watari, among many, many others. During the late nineties and early 2000's, I watched tons of those films and even went to a Japanese VHS retailer, in the Parisian Jap district, near Opera and also Beaugrenelle and rented some VHS, films never shown in France. The store owner translated the titles for me, from Japanese to Latin letters and that way I saw many films.... I don't even speak of the Cultural Center of Japan, close to the Seine river. Many Japanese movies, including this kind of films. Here, I also loved seeing Tsuruta Koji, because of his face and noble expression in the eyes. I guess it is a rare item for which I am the first reviewer. It is a gang war plot taking place in Hong Kong most of time, and the least we can say is that women have not a main place in this films mostly destined to men. The jazzy score is terrific; was it an American presence in Japan sign? Good surprise.
