Jose Luis Saenz de Heredia's agreeable reminiscence about the golden age of television

A nostalgic look at Television's golden age focusing on contestants , presenters , hosts , guests , spectators , public and the various performers in the medium , dealing with three amusing stories . Through various stories , regarding the recently released popularity of the television at homes in the Sixties . In the first story ¨When the gorillas speak on the phone¨ or ¨Cuando los gorilas hablan por teléfono¨ the guardian of the Retiro menagerie installs the set in his house to see his son Felipe (Tony Leblanc) , a professional contestant , compete in a show television . Felipe is overwhelmed by need because he has pawned the zoo gorilla and has left his friend (José Luis López Vázquez) with a costume in his place . So his unlikely success in the contest depends on his friend getting out of the cage . In the second story, ¨Una chica de fortuna¨ we follow Katy (Conchita Velasco) , the girl who attends the kiosk in a small town in Murcia . Katy, in addition to selling newspapers, is a singer for a small musical band (Luis Varela, Antonio Mayans) from the town that has presented a song to represent Spain at the Modern Song Festival. The song is called ¨You have to know it¨ and it wins the selection . But the rules of the contest establish that only famous people can sing it , in this case Luis Aguilé. Then , she shows up in Madrid with her group , willing to attract attention, she will come to throw herself at the Plaza de Las Ventas , as a spontaneous . The third story takes up the previous ones and makes its protagonists Katy and Felipe coincide in front of the television camera. In this case , the professional contestant poses as the singer's boyfriend to compete in the contest in which she will demonstrate if is capable of preparing " Bacalao al Pil-Pil" and he will try jump from a springboard to.the bottom of the pool with his head .

Entertaining and engaging film concerning the lives of various attractive characters, social habits , good sentiment , fraternity , songs and lots of fun . The common denominator in all the stories and in the overarching plot is the presence of the television - it brought music, news, stories, escape and comfort, made stars of everyday people and was often the glue in families and relationships . A series of vignettes involving some botcher characters are intertwined with televion shows . The good feeling stories are eventually linked and standing out the nice appearances by famous main and support actors and actual celebrities at the time such as José Luis López Vázquez , Alfredo Landa , Manuel Alexandre , José Luis Coll , Paco Morán , Luchy Soto , Rafaela Aparicio , Gracita Morales , Guadalupe Muñoz Sampedro , Margot Cottens , Erasmo Pascual , Jesús Guzmán , José María Caffarel , José Sepúlveda , Luis Varela , Antonio Mayans , Chicote , Angel Ter , Carlos Muñoz , Antonio Ozores , Luis Morris , José Orjas , Adrián Ortega, Rafael Hernández , Luis Marin , Valeriano Andrés , Fernando Sancho, Tomás Blanco, among others . In this film, the popular song "La Chica Ye-Ye" appeared for the first time, sung by Concha Velasco and which came to give the actress a great name for many years. Along with other songs , such as : ¨Tú lo tienes que saber¨music by Augusto Algueró , sung by Luis Aguilé ; Oh John-John music by Augusto Algueró , sung by Concha Velasco ; ¨Cet-amour-de toi¨ sung by Robert Jeantal ; ¨Mi piace la gente¨ by R. Prandoni : ¨Tengo miedo torero¨ by López and Augusto Algueró.

This sentimental motion picture was competently directed by José Luís Saenz De Heredia who previously made a similar and better film : "Historias de la radio" (1955) . Heredia was a controversial figure in Spain because of his strong and unabashed support of dictator Francisco Franco . At the beginning his career he was hired by Luis Buñuel , as executive producer , to direct ¨La Hija De Juan Simon¨ (1935) and ¨Quien Me Quiere a Mi¨ . During the Spanish Civil War , Jose Luis Heredia is detained but freed thanks to Luis Buñuel and Santiago Ontañon . Heredia directed various ¨Propaganda films¨ . It is well known the main title ¨Raza¨ written by General Francisco Franco under pseudonym : ¨Jaime Andrade¨ . As Jose Luis became the official filmmaker of the dictatorship , as he writes ¨Escuadrilla¨ (1941) . Posteriorly ,in the 40s , he directs several successful dramas : ¨El Escandalo¨ (43) based on Pedro Alarcón novel , ¨Mariona Rebull¨(1947) based on Ignacio Agusti book , ¨La Aguas Bajan Negras¨ based on Armanado Palacio Valdes , ¨El Destino Se Disculpa¨ based on Wenceslao Fernández Florez , ¨Don Juan¨ based on Don Juan Tenorio by Zorrilla , ¨Bambu¨ about the Cuba War and ¨¨Mies Es Mucha¨. In addition , a very good drama about Carlistas wars : ¨Diez Fusiles Esperan¨ . Heredia subsequently makes inferior comedies as ¨Grano De Mostaza¨, ¨Derechos De La Mujer¨ and ¨La Decente¨ . And various Manolo Escobar/Concha Velasco vehicles such as ¨Pero En Que País Vivimos¨, ¨Juicio De Faldas¨, Relaciones Casi Publicas ¨and ¨Me Debes Un Muerto¨. And other films for Paco Martínez Soria: ¨Se Armo El Belen¨, ¨Don Erre Que Erre¨. His greatest hits were ¨Historia De La Radio¨(1955) and ¨La Verbena De La Paloma¨ or ¨The fair of the dove¨. Rating : 6.5/10 .
