Two decades after Usher made fans question if every time he was in L.A., he was with his ex-girlfriend, the R&b sensation finally gave an answer.
In a People cover story following his Super Bowl halftime performance, Usher opened up about his Confessions album, which features several songs with lyrics about a man cheating on his partner with his ex.
“There is a great deal of truth in that album,” Usher told the publication. He noted, however, that it wasn’t just his truth, explaining that he reached out to multiple male friends in the industry at the time, and they had “talk sessions” and came up with the lyrics.
“We would sit around, and I would say, ‘Yo, check your egos at the door, and let’s just really be honest,'” he recalled. “‘Everybody has to speak their truth.'”

Kelsea Ballerini has added a couple more songs to her scathing divorce EP Rolling Up the Welcome Mat, insisting she’s ready to put her tumultuous split from country star Morgan Evans behind her — even as she detonates a few more bombs like, “I hope you sleep better at night now that you got an army/Of people that believe I’m the word that you used to call me.”

The following contains spoilers for The Righteous Gemstones Season 3, Episode 5, "Interlude," now streaming on Max.
One of the most contentious arcs is unfolding in The Righteous Gemstones Season 3. Eli's former brother-in-law, Peter Montgomery, is having his sons Chuck and Karl steal material from the Gemstone estate for his nationalist terrorist movement. It has the show leaning more into dark grit than the usual comedy. However, the series also has other hilarious sub-arcs like Judy cheating on Bj that stay on brand.
What's most intriguing about Season 3 is the clues that are hinting at both issues being tied to major events that occurred in the past. This has created a genuine mystery, especially since The Righteous Gemstones has rarely examined the early days of Eli's megachurch. Episode 5, "Interlude" takes a harrowing trip down memory lane, effectively showcasing how the dark present-day legacy took roots years back.

Darkside are keeping the momentum of their 2021 reunion going with their upcoming Live at Spiral House EP, arriving this Friday, June 9th. The surprise announcement arrives today alongside a mini-documentary about the sessions.
The seven-track Live at Spiral House is billed as “a loose and playful collection of jams” that Darkside’s Nicolas Jaar and Dave Harrington — along with drummer and longtime collaborator Tlacael Esparza — recorded at Los Angeles’ Spiral House studio last summer.
“When we decided to get the band back together with Tlac, we knew we needed a space where we could explore what that meant,” Jaar says in a press release. “After a couple of months of rehearsals, we started inviting friends and family to the space and many of these recordings share the fun and cozy spirit of that time.”
Harrington adds: “I probably played every Jerry Garcia riff I know in every key over the course of Spiral House.

Halsey is back in the BTS universe with “Lilith,” a new collaborative single with Suga. It’s released as the “anthem” for Blizzard Entertainment’s new video game Diablo IV, which is also out today.
“Lilith” is exactly what you’d expect from a song made specifically for a video game. Its Diablo-themed music video opens with Halsey donning a hooded black robe as she walks through a candlelit church. “Might fuck around and just succumb to my aggression/ I taste blood and it’s turned to an obsession,” she sings as she takes off the robe to reveal the inevitable sexy sorceress costume underneath. Who cares if arrows are pummeling down to give her numerous bloody lesions — the stilettos are cute, dammit!
Suga then appears inexplicably, surrounded by a cloud of fog that obscures his face. “We just fuck things up, yeah I noticed,” he sings in his entirely-English verse.

ThankGod4Cody didn't anticipate how Sza's era-defining "Ctrl" album would completely change his life in 2017 - but he also didn't foresee waiting five years to get the call to work on her next album, "Sos." The 31-year-old Grammy-nominated producer, born Cody Jordan Fayne, caught a major break with his contributions to "Ctrl" - "Love Galore," Broken Clocks," "The Weekend," and "Wavy (Interlude)" - some of which are the biggest records on Sza's debut album. Adele finally has new music on the way! On Oct. 14, the singer released "Easy on Me," her first single from her long-awaited 30 album, which will be dropping on Nov. 19. She announced the big news on social media. "I was certainly nowhere near where I'd hoped to be when I first started it nearly 3 years ago," she wrote. "Quite the opposite actually. I rely on routine and consistency to feel safe, I always have. And yet there I was knowingly - willingly even, throwing myself into a maze of absolute mess and inner turmoil!"
"I've learned a lot of blistering home truths about myself along the way. I've shed many layers but also wrapped myself in new ones. Discovered genuinely useful and wholesome mentalities to lead with, and I feel like I've finally found my feeling again. I'd go so far as to say that I've never...

DJ Shadow unveiled a dense and multi-faceted new song, “Rosie,” set to appear on his forthcoming album, Our Pathetic Age, out November 15th via Mass Appeal.
“Rosie” boasts two distinct parts, starting with a propulsive beat based around smashing drums, a chopped up vocal sample and the occasional flash of some strange synth. Halfway through, however, the song deftly slips into a hypnotic groove, where the drums still snap, but the synths swirl into a headier space.

The Righteous Gemstones Episode 5
I feel like I’m beginning to repeat myself by praising The Righteous Gemstones for its character development and world-building, but “Interlude” further deepens our understanding of the Gemstone clan, particularly Eli and Baby Billy, by taking an illuminating trip to the past. That said, even if the episode title lets us know this was intended to mark the halfway point in the series first season, I do feel like the content within “Interlude” may have been better placed elsewhere. Though it feels logical to allow us to get to know Aimee-Leigh, who’s presence still looms large in the Gemstone’s world, it certainly feels like the battle with Johnny Seasons and the fallout from Jesse’s hit and run...

Righteous Gemstones director David Gordon Green reveals how the show's transformative trip to the past came to be.
When HBO first ordered a full series for Danny McBride's next comedy effort, The Righteous Gemstones, they set the episode order at eight. That was before, however, McBride and the writing staff had some downtime from filming to think about including maybe just one more.
"We had just finished writing (episode) four and we were like a day ahead of schedule in our writing commitments," McBride told reporters at the 2019 TCA summer press tour. "So Jeff Fradley and John Carcieri, two of the other executive producers on the show, we just were like, 'Hey, what should we do? We got an extra day’ and then, we just started kind of brainstorming about this idea if we did a flashback episode what would that entail?"

In 1945, Maya Deren was awarded an Honorable Mention for her first film, Meshes of the Afternoon (1943), by the Amateur Cinema League. This film, co-directed with her husband Alexander Hammid, would go on to become one of the most influential avant-garde films of the 20th Century. You can learn where to watch it here.
According to the Amateur Cinema Database, the League was formed in New York City on July 28, 1926 and began awarding their “Ten Best” list in 1930. The staff of the League’s monthly publication, Movie Makers, would select their ten best films, then also award a number of Honorable Mentions in the pages of their magazine. In the wake of the discovery of a previously unpublished manuscript by James M Cain (Hard Case Crime will be releasing The Cocktail Waitress next fall), William Marling reviews David Madden and Kristopher Mecholsky's James M Cain: Hard-Boiled Mythmaker for the Los Angeles Review of Books: "[F]ilms such as Slightly Scarlet (Allan Dawn, 1956) and Interlude (Douglas Sirk, 1958) have received little attention, and after reading this book's account of their subversive sexuality and innovative techniques (these were among the first Technicolor 'noir' films), you may want to track them down…. The 'movies' chapter concludes with an overview of 'neo-noir,' including Bob Rafelson's Postman, Lawrence Kasdan's Body Heat, and Roman Polanski's Chinatown. The impact of Cain on such films is both obvious and frustratingly difficult to articulate." William Preston Robertson gave it a go, though, in the Guardian in 2001. Actress June Allyson Dies at 88
June Allyson, the perenially perky actress who played wife, girlfriend and girl-next-door to a long line of leading men in the 40s and 50s, died Saturday at her home in Ojai, California; she was 88. The actress died of pulmonary respiratory failure and acute bronchitis complicated by a long illness, with her husband of 30 years, David Ashrow, at her side. Born Eleanor Geisman in the Bronx, the actress grew up in near-poverty, raised by her divorced mother. After a serious injury at age eight, she spent years confinded in a steel brace, and began both swimming and dancing lessons to increase her mobility. The dancing paid off: in 1938, at age 21, she was cast in the Broadway production Sing Out the News. A prominent role in George Abbott's Best Foot Forward brought her to the attention of Hollywood, and she was later cast by MGM in the 1943 film version, and signed to a contract by the studio. With her raspy voice, sunny disposition and wholesome good looks, she stood apart from other more glamorous actresses yet endeared herself to both women, who identified with her, and men, who saw her as the "perfect wife." Her appeal was epitomized in such films as Little Women, where she played the tomboyish Jo opposite Peter Lawford, and baseball drama The Stratton Story, her first film with James Stewart. Offscreen, Allyson caused concern from her studio bosses when she married Dick Powell, her occasional co-star; the actor had been married twice before and was 13 years her senior, and by most reports their marriage was often tumultuous. In the 50s, Allyson most often played the steadfast wife, most famously opposite previous co-star Stewart in The Glenn Miller Story and Strategic Air Command. Other films during the decade included Executive Suite (with William Holden), The Opposite Sex, The Shrike (a rare unsympathetic role), Interlude, and a remake of My Man Godfrey alongside David Niven. As husband Powell's health began to decline (he died in 1963), Allyson began her retirement from films, and through the 60s worked mainly in television, including her own show, The Dupont Show with June Allyson. Her later career consisted mainly of TV movies and guest star appearances on shows ranging from The Love Boat to The Incredible Hulk, and she underwent another turbulent marriage, to Glenn Maxwell, her former husband's barber. In 1976, she married current husband Ashrow, with whom she traveled extensively. To most recent generations, Allyson was known as the upbeat spokeswoman for Depends undergarments, a role she undertook with aplomb as she helped pioneer research for urological and gynecological diseases in senior citizens. Allyson is survived by her husband and two children, daughter Pamela and son Richard, from her marriage to Powell. --Mark Englehart, IMDb staff...
