Hideo Kojima’s Death Stranding is one of the most acclaimed video games of all time, so it is no surprise that its sequel, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach, is one of the most anticipated new releases of 2025. At a panel at SXSW 2025, creator Hideo Kojima made several exciting announcements about the game.
The biggest announcement of the day was that we finally have a release date for the long-awaited Death Stranding 2: On the Beach: June 26. Although three months might seem like a long time away, it’s nothing compared to the years fans have been waiting since the first game’s release in 2019.
The highlight of the panel was a 10+ minute gameplay trailer that introduces audiences to the story, new world, and new characters of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. Much is left ambiguous because, as is the case with the first game, it seems that...

Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is officially coming in the next few months and hardcore fans are eager to get their hands on the highly anticipated title. The original game was released a few years back, and game director Hideo Kojima knew how to get the gaming community’s attention with some fancy packaging for the collector’s edition. These may cost more than standard editions, but purchasing these versions reflects how much a fan supports the developers and the game.
Unfortunately, times have changed and physical media is slowly dying out. While this may not affect players who have accepted the future of digital content, some are struggling to keep up and prefer to spend their money on something more tangible. It seems like Kojima Productions is following the same mistake made by fellow industry leaders in this regard.

Hideo Kojima is a true industry journeyman who has been creating video games for nearly 40 years. The legendary creator is finally starting to experience burnout from his never-ending creative endeavors and projects. The dreaded “crunch” phase of Death Stranding 2: On the Beach production has now begun, and Kojima is finding the experience “incredibly tough.”

This ain’t surprising to the fans considering the workload this legendary game designer has been bearing on his shoulder for years and we just hope his health doesn’t deteriorate like the creator of One Piece, Eiichiro Oda.

It’s been close to eight decades since two atomic bombs annihilated the Japanese cities of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, the only times nuclear weapons have been used in warfare. And in these seventy years, we have learned a lot about the irreparable human costs of nuclear holocaust and the long-lasting hazards of radiation exposure. Yet, the chance of a warring nation deflecting the use of such a weapon in extreme measures couldn’t be deemed impossible. The dark clouds of Cold War may have long perished, but power-hungry governments all over the world tend to toy with their nuclear weaponry. With Ican (International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons) winning the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize, the need to recognize the catastrophic consequences of these deadly weapons has only drawn more attention.
For decades, Cinema has done its duty in questioning the blood-lust-driven establishment on its nuclear activities despite its claims to the contrary.

When my late husband, Stanley Kramer, created his own independent film production company in 1947, his goal was to make some level of difference with his work in Hollywood.
The first success of that stated direction was the World War II drama “Home of the Brave” in 1949, adapted from Arthur Laurents’ play about anti-Semitism in the military. Radically, Stanley saw an opportunity with the material to shift his lens to building racial tensions in the United States, and so, in secret, he cast an African American (James Edwards) in the leading role and translated Laurents’ story about the Jewish GI experience to one about the Black GI experience. It would become the most-picketed film in history. It would also mark the start of one of our industry’s most consequential filmmaking careers.

I first remember 9-1-1's Peter Krause appearing on my television screen when I was about 10. Sports Night, where Krause portrayed sports reporter Casey McCall opposite Josh Charles's Dan Rydell, first aired at 9:30/8:30c on Tuesday, September 22, 1998, and shows like Home Improvement, Spin City, The Hughleys, Dharma and Greg, and NYPD Blue rounded out ABC's Tuesday night line-up. While NBC was a tough competitor -- Will & Grace was so popular so quickly that NBC ran reruns of the brand new comedy on Tuesday nights -- Sports Night held its own for two seasons and then went on to become a bit of a cult classic, or maybe a hidden gem, if one really wants to get particular.

"Though the tide is high, have no fear." While many gravitate to spaceship-set horror, I find underwater horror stories to be equally terrifying, especially considering how little of the ocean we've actually explored. That's why I'm really excited that Morning Star co-creators Tim Daniel and David 'Db' Andry have reunited for Crush Depth, a brand-new horror/action comic book series from Mad Cave Studios. Releasing in early 2025, Crush Depth features illustrations by Alex Sanchez, colors by Kurt Michael Russell, and letters by Justin Birch, with covers from Alex Sanchez and Ramon Villalobos. Along with first details on the new series, we also have a look at cover art, and preview pages you can read right now!

Stanley Kramer was a director who specialized in socially conscious dramas, generally told from a liberal perspective, many of which remain relevant today. He was particularly active in the 1950s and '60s, crafting several intelligent, challenging movies like On the Beach, Guess Who's Coming to Dinner, and Judgment at Nuremberg. The best of them explore issues like racial prejudice, general divides, and nuclear war.

Airing for roughly fifteen years, ER saw the death and abrupt exits of many beloved characters, most notably Dr. Mark Greene in season 8 but why did actor Anthony Edwards leave ER? Created by physician and sci-fi novelist Michael Crichton (creator of Jurassic Park and Westworld), ER made its debut on NBC in 1994, achieving overwhelming success with a total of 331 episodes over the course of 15 seasons before ending in 2009, making it the second-longest-running medical drama behind Grey's Anatomy. Like Grey's Anatomy, many cast members came and went over the course of the long-running series, but Dr. Mark Greene was there for more than half of the show's run.
Played by Anthony Edwards, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning star of Top Gun and Revenge of the Nerds, Dr. Greene was one of ER's most inherently likable leading men, as well as, arguably, the main protagonist through ER season 8. From ER's pilot episode,...

Musicals are really in vogue at the fall film festivals this year. At Venice the upcoming Joker: Folie à Deux will have stars Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga singing and dancing to the standards. At Telluride, Emilia Pérez has the bug, as does the country-tinged The Easy Kind. Plus there is the Robbie Williams creation Better Man, from The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey; and Pharrell Williams’ Lego biopic Piece By Piece that are keeping us coming out of the theatre humming the tunes. And now, world premiering today at Telluride is The End, perhaps the most unlikely storyline for a musical of all (well at least until Joker starts warbling “That’s Entertainment”). It is set after the world has ended due to a cataclysmic environmental disaster and the only people left on earth are a very wealthy family –partially responsible for it — living in a plush underground bunker.

Happy 50th anniversary to Neil Young’s On the Beach, an album that, to put it mildly, is not a very sunny one. Young himself called it one of the most depressing records he’s ever made — and that was after he wrote and recorded the famously funereal Tonight’s the Night. Fred Astaire was an Oscar-nominated song and dance man best remembered for a series of musicals he made alongside many female dancer, but especially Ginger Rogers. Yet his filmography extends well past those titles. Let’s take a look back at 20 of his greatest films, ranked worst to best.
As a dancer, Astaire was known for his perfectionism, doing multiple takes to get the most precise movements correct. His immaculate steps were matched only by his outfits, which often consisted of top hats and coats.
After making a name for himself on the stage in London and on Broadway, Astaire came to Hollywood. He first appeared with fellow dancer Rogers in “Flying Down to Rio” (1933), where they played second fiddle to Dolores del Rio and Gene Raymond. Their first starring vehicle came just one year later: “The Gay Divorcee” (1934).

Ex on the Beach challenges cast members to navigate past relationships among new love interests. Despite its poor track record, Ex on the Beach is one of the best reality TV dating shows. Cast members from the show have found their happy endings, from successful relationships to starting families.
Though Ex on the Beach tries to keep its premise hidden from its participants, the MTV show has never been for the faint of heart. As a hit reality TV series, the show challenges cast members to see if they are really over their exes by putting them in a house full of available singles before bringing in their exes to complicate things. Cast members have then been faced with the choice of deciding if they want to try new love, rekindle past flames, or leave the show single. Despite its poor track record, it's one of the best reality TV dating shows.

Yoji Shinkawa has been collaborating with the famous video game director Hideo Kojima for most of his career. The Metal Gear franchise was lucky enough to benefit from his artistic talent, and the entertainment industry has recognized his work for its unique style.
During the Connecting Worlds documentary, Yoji talked about his experiences working with Hideo and how his game Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty somehow predicted the future, like the tragic terrorist attack in New York City on September 11, 2001.
Although it was purely coincidental, it is remarkable how Hideo managed to do it again during the Covid-19 pandemic a few short months after the release of Death Stranding.
Sarcastically stating how the legendary director may be a prophet, Shinkawa remained true to his craft and helped make the best game possible. Oftentimes, especially around that period when violence and terrorism were at an all-time high with conflicts,...

Death Stranding 2 premiered a strange trailer showcasing some of its story and characters. The title "On the Beach" refers to the game's central metaphor, but may also connect to its setting. Other obfuscating elements include the Bridge Baby Lou, a man in Joker makeup playing an electric guitar, and tiny ventriloquist dummies.
Death Stranding 2: On the Beach just dropped a bizarre, ten-minute trailer on audiences with little to no explanation. The sequel to 2019's Death Stranding, this is the second game directed by auteur Hideo Kojima following his departure from Konami and establishment of his own studio. Its second trailer premiered at PlayStation's State of Play on January 31, 2024. This one revealed a lot more about its story, which was previously left to player imagination. The game is due to be released at some point in 2025, but until then, the latest trailer has given players plenty to ponder.

Disclaimer: Crunchyroll is an independently operated joint venture between U.S.-based Sony Pictures Entertainment and Japan’s Aniplex. Today saw another PlayStation State of Play stream debut, bringing with it around 45 minutes of new and updated game info. Hideo Kojima was on hand for a double whammy—including more on Death Stranding 2 , which now sports the On The Beach subtitle, and a new espionage game called Physint . There's also a new Silent Hill game available to download for free. That's just scratching the surface, so let's take a look at some of the highlights from today's State of Play. Death Stranding 2 On The Beach is due out in 2025, and as usual you should expect more questions than answers in the extensive nine-minute cinematic trailer. With news that Supermassive’s Until Dawn is getting a film adaptation, the rumour mill is spinning up news that the title could be coming to PlayStation 5 and PC. Not only that, but Death Stranding 2 will be getting an official title.
Per French website Dealabs, an announcement regarding Until Dawn coming to the PS5 and PC is coming “within 15 days”. There’s unfortunately not much more information on this version of Until Dawn, though one could suspect that if the game is making the leap, it would feature graphical enhancements to take advantage of the PS5 hardware. None of this has been confirmed as of yet by Sony or Supermassive.
Meanwhile, Dealabs also mentions that Death Stranding 2, which was announced back at The Game Awards 2022, has an official title. Much like Until Dawn, an announcement about the game is expected within the next 15 days, possibly during a State of Play event.

Warning: Spoilers ahead for Leave the World Behind.
Some unanswered questions in "Leave the World Behind" are explained by supporting material from the novel and real-life disasters. The characters' actions and decisions in the movie raise some serious plot holes and inconsistencies. The movie connects subtly to Sam Esmail's previous work, "Mr. Robot," possibly existing in the same universe.

Australia's stunning natural beauty serves as the perfect backdrop for a plethora of movies, including post-apocalyptic narratives like Mad Max. The barren grasslands and deserts of Australia provide an ideal setting for stories set in a dystopian future, creating a sense of isolation and despair. Australia's varying environments, from lush rainforests to arid deserts, are showcased in films like These Final Hours and 2067.
Australia has been demonstrated as the perfect location for a post-apocalyptic narrative in many movies, including classics like Mad Max and lesser-known films. The 1950s are considered the “Golden Age” of science fiction cinema, and that’s not just hyperbole. By many accounts, more than 200 sci-fi movies were released during that decade. And while the film industry had sporadically produced quality sci-fi in the years before—ranging from Aelita (1924) to Metropolis (1927), to The Invisible Man (1933)—it wasn’t until the 1950s that classic after classic began to arrive like riches from a long-lost hidden treasure.
And when we say classic, we mean films that essentially created the template for all science fiction movies that followed. Just look at this list. The first half of the decade brought us The Thing from Another World, When Worlds Collide, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Godzilla, and Them!, while the second half ushered in This Island Earth, Forbidden Planet, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Incredible Shrinking Man, The Blob, The Fly,...

As we approach another anniversary of August 9, those who participated in “the decision” are all but gone.
But the reminders are with us, thanks to a new book by Evan Thomas, “Road to Surrender,” the forward for which reads “To save lives, it was necessary to take lives — possibly hundreds of thousands of them.” And, of course, Christopher Nolan’s epic portrait of the man who was never allowed to forget, Robert Oppenheimer.
We can’t hide under our desks anymore, but we can view ten other works that scared the hell out of us.

As a little girl in 1959, I found my parents watching this black and white film on TV. Excited, I asked if it was the latest with Annette and Frankie Avalon. Uh, no. They allowed me to stay, and two hours later, I was shaken to the core.

Glen Hansard is set to release his fifth solo record ‘All That Was East Is West Of Me Now’ on October 20. It will mark the singer-songwriter’s first record in over four years and follows a period that found Hansard moving between collaborative work with Eddie Vedder and Cat Power to live performances with The Frames and Markéta Irglová/The Swell Season. The effect of which helped give direction to ‘All That Was East Is West Of Me Now’, a record that is by all turns noisy and meditative, sprawling and hypnotic, Hansard’s most rock record since Burn the Maps-era The Frames.

Ever since movies began, filmmakers have depicted the end of the world of the world on screen whether it be from floods, asteroids, comets, alien invasion and even Zombies. But cinema went nuclear after the dropping of the atomic bomb on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in August, 1945. The arrival of the nuclear age heralded the introduction of a new sub-genre: destruction by atomic bomb. And with the release July 21 of Christopher Nolan’s lauded “Oppenheimer,” which domestically earned some $70 million in its opening weekend, let’s look at some of the vintage flicks of the genre.
Nuclear destruction of London is stopped at the last moment in the taut 1950 British film “Seven Days to Noon,” directed by John and Roy Boulting and winners of the original story Oscar, stars veteran character actor Barry Jones as a brilliant scientist working at an atomic research center in London who steals an A-bomb that...

Films about the end of the world are nothing new. But films about the real end of the world–the moments in human history that seem to have put us on an inevitable path toward our own self-destruction–are less frequent. In the 1950s, as the Cold War took hold and the threat of nuclear war escalated, most of the films that came out dealt with it in terms of metaphor, usually sci-fi ones, like giant irradiated lizards and insects standing in for hydrogen bombs.
Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer addresses one of those moments in history head-on, giving us not just a glimpse into the tormented mind of the “father of the atomic bomb,” but a you-are-there, immersive front row seat to the very moment in which the first bomb was detonated and the end of the human race came into clear view, starting with what many now consider to...

He’s instead plotting out a solo acoustic show built around rarely played songs from the depths of his vast catalog.
“I don’t want to come back and do the same songs again,” he said in a live Zoom event to patron members of the Neil Young Archives. “I’d feel like...

The threat of global apocalypse has influenced genre filmmaking from the very beginning. One of the earliest apocalyptic films we have a record of is 1916's "The End Of The World," which illustrates the disastrous consequences of a comet that flies near Earth. The plot is often understood as a response to the near-apocalyptic event of 1910, when Halley's Comet got a little too close for comfort. World events themselves became quite apocalyptic during WWII, but films of this nature actually weren't popular at the time; the news provided enough scares.
The first real heyday of apocalyptic filmmaking came in the 1950s, when the atomic bomb, the Cold War, and the space race stoked fears about impending doom. On Wednesday night, legendary goth-rockers The Sisters of Mercy returned to the United States to kick off their first state-side tour in nearly 15 years. Playing to a full house at The Fillmore Silver Springs outside of Washington, D.C., the band delivered a 23-song set, featuring 10 previously-unreleased tunes. Watch videos of the concert and check out the full setlist below.
Opening with the new song “Don’t Drive On Ice,” The Sisters’ did include some of their classic hits, like “Lucretia My Reflection,” “Temple of Love,” “More,” “Dominion,” and more. The new songs, meanwhile, show off songwriter Andrew Eldritch’s recent creative output, and the fact that, despite having not released an album since 1990, he’s still in the writing game.
The 19-date tour will next stop at this weekend’s Sick New World festival in Las Vegas, which will also feature System of a Down, Korn, Deftones, and more.
