FAQ

The Vampire Lovers

FAQ

The Vampire Lovers is based upon the novel entitled Carmilla written by Irish writer Sheridan Le Fanu [1814-1873]. Other adaptations of the novel include Blood and Roses (1960) (1960), Mystery and Imagination episode "Camilla" (1966), The Blood Spattered Bride (1972) (1972), and Nightmare Classics episode "Camilla" (1989).

This was left unanswered in the film and Le Fanu's original novel. The Countess posed as Carmilla's mother (and subsequently her aunt) but her true relation to Carmilla is unknown. The Man in Black is presumed to be a vampire because of his pale complexion and visible fangs. It is possible that he is the Count Karnstein (or Carmilla's husband).
