Ahead of her Doctor Who return, Millie Gibson's upcoming PBS drama The Forsytes has been renewed for a second season before the first season has had its release date confirmed. Gibson made her debut in Doctor Who season 14 as Ruby Sunday, the first companion of Ncuti Gatwa's Fifteenth Doctor who hoped to find the truth about her parent's identity. Adapting the novel series penned by John Galsworthy, which explores the lives of an upper-middle-class English family across several generations, The Forsytes is the third major television adaptation of the source material.
While PBS Masterpiece has yet to issue a release date for The Forsytes, Deadlinereports that the series has already received a season 2 renewal. Needing tissues and a Masterpiece miniseries is pretty standard at this point. Now they've unveiled a new trailer for Miss Austen. The four-part miniseries is based on the novel by Gill Hornby and follows Cassandra Austen (Keeley Hawes), sister to famous Regency-era author Jane Austen. Cassandra's claim to fame instead is the fact that after Jane died in 1817, it was found out that Cassandra burned some of Jane's letters. Most of the ones that survived remained heavily redacted. Now, in this series,Hawes plays an older Cassandra Austen, heading back to her childhood estate in order to retrieve the letters and eventually commit the deed that shrouded her in infamy. The new trailer takes a much more emotional and dark tone than the previous trailer, released back in January.

Downton Abbey is one of those shows that captured our hearts for a variety of reasons. Now you’ll need to find something just a little similar to the series. After all, there’s nothing quite as good as this British period drama!
The show follows the lives of those who live in Downton Abbey. This includes the upper class owners of the estate and the lower class staff members who work there. One of the great things about the series is that we see how class affects situations, but we also see how the upper class needed to adapt in the 1910s and 1920s or face the loss of everything.
What do you watch when you’ve worked through the seasons and the movies again? Here are five shows like Downton Abbey that you need to give a chance.

Masterpiece on PBS has just unveiled the first look at Benjamin Wainwright (Belgravia: The Next Chapter) as Paris’s most renowned detective, Chief Inspector Jules Maigret, in the upcoming contemporary adaptation of Maigret. Netflix is great. We know this. We subscribe to it even though maybe we complain about the price. We get our money's worth.
But let's be real, the streamer is not the only service we pay money to see. Maybe we have a separate (secret) account for Hulu. We don't tell our friends this, of course. We do not want to cheat on Netflix.
But there are other non-Netflix series to watch of value. The good thing is that our favorite streaming service will likely rule the world one day and all shows ever will be available to us there. We cannot wait until these five are.
Five great shows we wish were streaming on Netflix right nowWhite Lotus
Entering its third season on (shhh...) Max, White Lotus is a ridiculously consistently great show. Mike White created the series and it might have become far more beloved than anyone expected.

With its whimsical characters, nonsensical logic, and complex allegories, Lewis Carroll’s Alice in Wonderland novel has inspired countless adaptations across various media. However, none have shaped popular perception as significantly as Disney’s 1951 animated film. The colorful, neat, and thoroughly Disney-fied version of Wonderland remains popular, although it differs greatly from Carroll’s original vision.

Max’s newest original series merges the best of ER and 24, combining the stakes of life-saving emergency medicine with a real-time format to deliver one of the year’s most engaging shows (so what if the year is only 10 days old?). The medical drama, the first two episodes of which are now streaming, also counts several ER vets amidst its ranks, as it was created by R. Scott Gemmill, produced by John Wells, and stars Noah Wyle. They know what they’re doing, and it shows.
Set in a trauma hospital in Pittsburgh, the first season follows a 15-hour shift in an emergency department led by Wyle’s Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch. Maladies range from the relatively mundane to the gruesome and dire as Robby and his team, including overconfident interns and green student doctors, attend to the never-ending flow of patients. It’s not just the animals that take center stage on PBS’s All Creatures Great and Small. In the fifth season of Masterpiece’s positively poignant British dramedy, based on veterinarian James Herriot’s beloved books, the humans are stepping outside their usual roles as World War II continues to impact the pastoral Yorkshire community of Darrowby in 1941. For executive producer Debbie O’Malley, who wrote two of the season’s seven episodes, that presented a challenge. “The things people love about the show are the warmth and the humor and the sense of community,” she says. “We wanted to preserve all of that but also not do a disservice to the very real hardships and sacrifices that people made.” Two of Skeldale House’s animal docs already have left to serve their country: Tristan (Callum Woodhouse) in the Royal Army Veterinary Corps, and James (Nicholas Ralph) as the pilot...

Everyone's a critic, art's subjective, and everyone has their own personal favorites, so saying "the best of all time" is relative at best or even pointless. When Rotten Tomatoes applies that label to a film, though, it has a bit more weight, considering it's an aggregate site that usually represents a wide range of critics' opinions. In their list of the 150 Best Sci-Fi Movies of All Time, the absolute essentials, Rotten Tomatoes has placed 2001: A Space Odyssey at the very top. And it just so happens to be streaming for free as of New Year's Day; watch it on Tubi here.

The Victorian period drama Miss Scarlet has already stirred up quite a few mysteries across its first four seasons, and now it has been renewed for season 5. Premiering in 2020, the show follows Eliza Scarlet as she inherits her late father's detective agency and teams up with seasoned Scotland Yard veteran William "The Duke" Wellington to crack cases. Putting a clever spin on the age-old detective and romance tropes, Miss Scarlet analyzes the Victorian era through a modern lens and explores issues like gender and sexuality while still delivering compelling mysteries.
Though the series has all the visual appeal of the most opulent period dramas, the greatest strength of Miss Scarlet has always been the will-they-won't-they pull of the two titular characters and the cozy vibe of the show as a whole. The cozy British murder mystery series is nothing new, but Miss Scarlet goes a fair bit deeper than the...
